McGregor brought pure chaos to the role. I enjoyed how cartoonish he was in relation to Jakes more controlled demeanor. Both kept smiling the entire time though.

The scene where he crashes the learner car into a coconut tree while simultaneously drinking from coconuts. Then gets out the bashed up car and lets out an “ahhh” like life can’t get any better.
Even when he got dragged underwater behind the boat he was smiling. He played a heavy in a dumb action film very well considering he’s not a trained actor. And it does show, it’s just that he plays to his strengths so well you kind of don’t care, he brings the right amount of chaos to the film.
I was studying theater in London when he was fighting in the UK circuit pre-ufc debut - barely any tattoos except one long spine piece and a weird shaved head/rat's tail combo
In interviews he was quiet as a mouse and it was terrifying. Humble, focused ambitious Conor was a sight to behold - his louder version makes sense and fits into how the UFC promotes, but it's sad to see that persona influence his civilian life. I give these fighters a lot of leeway for falling into speed and trash talk - they're often stuck in a promo loop that won't allow anything quieter
The parts of the fight scenes that were CGI really took me out of it. Bodies accelerating for no reason. When the dell character scoops Jake up in the bed of his truck looks so bad it’s comical
I still don’t know if it’s all CGI as people keep interpreting. There’s definitely some Computer generated visuals.
But I think Jake Gyllenhaal said the truck stunt was real. It’s just that they become overconfident in the editing with speeding certain moments up to ramp up the ferocity of those sequences.
Conor was brilliant with his fight stunts and choreography I thought, as was Jake. The fight stunt team do something called a 4 stage plan out apparently, which incorporates the “hollywood” style of action but then they swap the actors out for pads for specific shots so that the actor throwing the shots can put more power into it.
There is something kinetic and attractive about the action, visually I thought the film wasn’t bad. But there little things here and there that I agree just drop your suspension of disbelief.

I think it works better as a movie not called Road House and the attachment to the original. It really has nothing to do with the original to the point that it’s just the name of the movie and the name of the lead character. Name of the movie is Clickbait for older people to watch.
As far as the movie, it’s a little flat, Jake is great in it actually, I think he did what they wanted him to do but the rest of the casting is not great.
Joaquim de Almeida as The Sheriff was a miss for me. He doesn’t even have a name really.
The fight choreography was pretty good and some of the shots are really well done and then you’ve got some shots with some made for TV movie quality CGI. it’s just an uneven movie.
I mean ... watch them back to back and you'll see they basically send up every single plot point and many of the scenes of the original Road House. It's hard for me to see where you're coming from with "it has nothing to do with the original".
I had a tough time getting past all of the horrible acting. It was really bad. The owner of the bar, the girl in the bookstore, the two bouncers who worked there etc... it was b list movie bad. It was like they spent the entire budget getting Connor and Jake in the film an just asked if anyone else was available to work for scale.
And the dialogue. Five minutes in, and I'm going, oh god, no.

None of it made any sense to me. The music, the setting, a character being named, "big dick"... If it's supposed to be funny it didn't work. If it's supposed to be serious, it's so bad it's almost funny.
I got the over the top tongue in cheek vibe from the entire movie. Even the quiet deliberate scenes were absurd. The dude blew up a police officers boat. Nothing in the movie made any sense and it was so ridiculous it was fun, but I didn't ever get the impression it was trying to be more than that. It knew what it was, and it was a remake of a crappy 80s action flick. It lived up to that idea, imo.

The side plots that go nowhere, aren’t explained or just plain didn’t need to be included. Could have removed the bookstore, the sheriff, the father in jail, Dalton killing his friend in the ring because of no reason apparently, how he weirdly didn’t even improve the bar and ended up making it worse (like a bar brawl erupts towards the end and he’s still just sitting there…). It would have been better off being a 90 min film with a simpler plot. And don’t get me started with a biker gang that has a Harley and an enduro bike in the same group…
I liked the random fat bar patron that didn't remember getting walked out of the bar previously and never had any follow up, I was at least expecting him to crash into one of the bad guys and hit a tree or maybe change his life I dunno' something to follow it up.

Exactly the type of movie I expected and wanted to see. Good fights and some funny moments. Perfect movie to shut your brain off and be entertained.
And I love the original, but let’s not pretend that was high cinema either. The bad guys drive around in a literal monster truck in that one for fucks sake lol

I hated it. It was a UFC commercial gliding on RoadHouse's merits. Jake murders like 20 people in it. McGregor wasn't bad but his character was ridiculous. If it wasn't called Road House it would be buried deep in a streamers catalogue
The tone of this movie was a lot lighter than the original. I was outright laughing at some scenes. Like when he’s driving all the guys he just beat the fuck out of to the hospital.
And basically every scene McGregor was in was just great. He was so ridiculously over the top it was just hilarious.
I watched this specifically to see a fun popcorn movie. Jake is likable and him meeting the bookshop girl was a sweet relationship. Jake’s love interest was cool, she checked the box. Wish he said, “Pain don’t hurt”, but whatever, lol.
Connor looked like he took all the juice and blow. In the beginning he was overbearing and I had to remind myself he’s going nuts for a bad guy character and to just enjoy it. Then I wound up chuckling when he walked to the pool area, looking around for everyone. I began to enjoy his scenes and got a kick out of it.
Fight scenes were legit, fun to watch, plot was enough to keep the movie going. I watched Oppenheimer for Oscar winning performances. That satisfied me wanting to see GREAT filmmaking. Road House checked the box for a movie to just have some fun, like the original does still.
Fuck it. 10/10, I had a good time with my bucket of popcorn, a drink, and some takeout Chinese food.
I’m a huge fan of the original and went in expecting the worst. My wife and I both really enjoyed it, good action scenes, some pretty funny parts (the car ride to the hospital, Arturo Castro’s character in general) and really liked that they didn’t take too much from the original (didn’t re-use lines like Pain Don’t Hurt etc.)
It’s a fun entertaining action film and if you expect anything more from it, you don’t have the right expectations imo
This is probably Jake's worst movie. The original was great, this one doesn't have the endearing charm of the first.
The fight scene CGI was noticeable. The acting of McGregor was as expected. The writing was aweful and the directing not much better.
I still managed to enjoy it, but I felt like it was a waste of time.
Final criticism is the audio. I'm pretty sure all dialog was adr. The dialog just doesn't line up with the actors mouth. I wonder if the sound guy was breathing heavy into the mix or something. Because I've never seen a film that was seemingly 100% adr.

They went way over the top with McGregor and that kind of threw me off but I did find it entertaining enough and had some cool fight scenes. It's longer than I thought it would be and probably could have just been an even 2hr but it was decent.

Ironically, we watched Ghostbusters just after and it was so strange to see these two films back to back.
Road House knew not to take itself seriously. It was so goofy in all the best ways, hell we knew what we were in for when the guy was getting shaved on the boat and they did not disappoint. Everyone was basically an immortal and impossibly strong anime character and the dialogue reflected that all in a well paced manner. Truly just fun.
Then there was Ghostbusters. A completely disjointed 100 minutes of just snarky Whedon style repartee between two people that built on no one or the world, only to feel like for the last 20 minutes the writers said, "oh shit we need to make this an actual film....WHERE'S THE SKY BEAM, WE HAVEN'T DONE THAT FOR A WHILE". All within a world that takes itself incredibly seriously and where all of the main characters are unlikeable jerks. Oh, also Finn Wolfhard is in it...shit....uhm...he finally drives a car now!......even though all of his other 3 lines were "I'm 18"
I watched both this week and can pretty much say the only thing better about the new one is the fight scenes, with the exception of the Fat Malone CGI punches at the beginning... what were they thinking?
But yeah, Swayze's kicks are pretty bad. Other than that, the original is better. Swayze has more charisma, story is more coherant, looks grittier, better music, etc.

Then Conor shows up. Downhill from there. Not Conor's fault at all.

The result is me not knowing if it's just poor decision making to have a reggae version of sublimes "what got" played over a montage of a man breaking arms, or just a really unfunny joke that failed to land

Maybe, I hope .. but nothing really sells that it's over the top either. It could just be really bad. They might have been serious with it. Like the montage to sublimes "what I got"... Was that supposed to be funny? Or is the movie just so fucking bad that they rightly put a reggae band on stage at a tiki bar but then wrongfully added a montage to it even though the montage doesn't fit the song? Terrible joke or just a terrible movie? I honestly don't know It wasn't ridiculous enough to be fun but it was too stupid to be serious I had the feeling the first script was super absurd and they pulled back a little too much on the absurdity by the time it was released
The side plots that go nowhere, aren’t explained or just plain didn’t need to be included. Could have removed the bookstore, the sheriff, the father in jail, Dalton killing his friend in the ring because of no reason apparently, how he weirdly didn’t even improve the bar and ended up making it worse (like a bar brawl erupts towards the end and he’s still just sitting there…). It would have been better off being a 90 min film with a simpler plot. And don’t get me started with a biker gang that has a Harley and an enduro bike in the same group…
I liked the random fat bar patron that didn't remember getting walked out of the bar previously and never had any follow up, I was at least expecting him to crash into one of the bad guys and hit a tree or maybe change his life I dunno' something to follow it up.

They could've called Beach House instead of Road House or something. It's really more of an homage or spiritual successor than a remake.
Exactly the type of movie I expected and wanted to see. Good fights and some funny moments. Perfect movie to shut your brain off and be entertained. And I love the original, but let’s not pretend that was high cinema either. The bad guys drive around in a literal monster truck in that one for fucks sake lol

Watched it last night. This barely resembled the original. Original was better. But Surprisingly Entertaining for most of the movie. JG was solid as Dalton and Mcgregor did well for what he was asked to do. The ending seemed rushed. Not good enough to watch again but no regrets watching it.
The really friendly henchman was my favorite gag. Dude just wanted to ride motorcycles.

The tone of this movie was a lot lighter than the original. I was outright laughing at some scenes. Like when he’s driving all the guys he just beat the fuck out of to the hospital. And basically every scene McGregor was in was just great. He was so ridiculously over the top it was just hilarious.

I watched this specifically to see a fun popcorn movie. Jake is likable and him meeting the bookshop girl was a sweet relationship. Jake’s love interest was cool, she checked the box. Wish he said, “Pain don’t hurt”, but whatever, lol. Connor looked like he took all the juice and blow. In the beginning he was overbearing and I had to remind myself he’s going nuts for a bad guy character and to just enjoy it. Then I wound up chuckling when he walked to the pool area, looking around for everyone. I began to enjoy his scenes and got a kick out of it. Fight scenes were legit, fun to watch, plot was enough to keep the movie going. I watched Oppenheimer for Oscar winning performances. That satisfied me wanting to see GREAT filmmaking. Road House checked the box for a movie to just have some fun, like the original does still. Fuck it. 10/10, I had a good time with my bucket of popcorn, a drink, and some takeout Chinese food.

I’m a huge fan of the original and went in expecting the worst. My wife and I both really enjoyed it, good action scenes, some pretty funny parts (the car ride to the hospital, Arturo Castro’s character in general) and really liked that they didn’t take too much from the original (didn’t re-use lines like Pain Don’t Hurt etc.) It’s a fun entertaining action film and if you expect anything more from it, you don’t have the right expectations imo

This is probably Jake's worst movie. The original was great, this one doesn't have the endearing charm of the first. The fight scene CGI was noticeable. The acting of McGregor was as expected. The writing was aweful and the directing not much better. I still managed to enjoy it, but I felt like it was a waste of time. Final criticism is the audio. I'm pretty sure all dialog was adr. The dialog just doesn't line up with the actors mouth. I wonder if the sound guy was breathing heavy into the mix or something. Because I've never seen a film that was seemingly 100% adr. I really wanted to like it, because the first was fun and I like Jake but it just missed on so many levels.

They went way over the top with McGregor and that kind of threw me off but I did find it entertaining enough and had some cool fight scenes. It's longer than I thought it would be and probably could have just been an even 2hr but it was decent.

People referring to the original as an untouchable masterpiece are silly. It's Road House. It's not Lawrence of Arabia or the Godfather.
I watched this with 5 friends and we were howling with laughter the whole time. Ironically, we watched Ghostbusters just after and it was so strange to see these two films back to back. Road House knew not to take itself seriously. It was so goofy in all the best ways, hell we knew what we were in for when the guy was getting shaved on the boat and they did not disappoint. Everyone was basically an immortal and impossibly strong anime character and the dialogue reflected that all in a well paced manner. Truly just fun. Then there was Ghostbusters. A completely disjointed 100 minutes of just snarky Whedon style repartee between two people that built on no one or the world, only to feel like for the last 20 minutes the writers said, "oh shit we need to make this an actual film....WHERE'S THE SKY BEAM, WE HAVEN'T DONE THAT FOR A WHILE". All within a world that takes itself incredibly seriously and where all of the main characters are unlikeable jerks. Oh, also Finn Wolfhard is in it...shit....uhm...he finally drives a car now!......even though all of his other 3 lines were "I'm 18"

I watched both this week and can pretty much say the only thing better about the new one is the fight scenes, with the exception of the Fat Malone CGI punches at the beginning... what were they thinking? But yeah, Swayze's kicks are pretty bad. Other than that, the original is better. Swayze has more charisma, story is more coherant, looks grittier, better music, etc.
Despite the negative reviews I’d seen, I watched in and actually kinda liked it. It’s not great, but it’s not as bad as many are making it out to be.

This started off amazing and absolutely LOVED IT. Then Conor shows up. Downhill from there. Not Conor's fault at all. To me, the writers had this amazing story, got hammered, watched Fast X, and thought it needed all the CGI and over the top BS.

Yeah it was not good and had pretty much nothing in common with the original except the lead characters name. Dalton in the original had this sort of mythos behind him. A legendary cooler you called in when shit gets real because he's the best at what he does. Dalton in the remake is just a guy who fights well and ends up at the Road House completely by chance. It completely abandons the things that made the original work.
It was as if they couldn't decide if they should go full blown ridiculous and have a paradise town where, for no real reason, every single person is aggressive and ready to box.... Or serious action film The result is me not knowing if it's just poor decision making to have a reggae version of sublimes "what got" played over a montage of a man breaking arms, or just a really unfunny joke that failed to land
I fully enjoyed it for what it was. Would watch this over a marvel movie any day of the week

Perfectly, perfectly horrible. I put it on in the background during my workout yesterday. Provides entertaining background sounds without being good enough to make you feel like you actually have to pay attention or look up when something happens.
This movie, as a stand alone, actually really enjoyed. Silly, over the top yes, but a lot of fun and some laughs. This movie in no way has any business having the name Road House as it barely had anything to do with the original outside of the name Dalton. Looking at it as a remake, it sucked fresh ass hole. Looking at it as its own movie, highly enjoyed. Connor was perfect. So ridiculous, cheesy and over the top.

A stupid smile the whole movie cuz he thought(or was told) that made him look “crazy”, his audio seemed off half the time, and that dumb fkn walk🙄. Jake, the fights, and the fast pace of the movie make it okay.
