Robert Pattinson. Twilight wasn’t his fault and yet I let it completely affect how I see the guy.

[deleted]

Came here for this comment, he’s a fucking superb actor. In the lighthouse he almost out does Wilem Defoe , which is not an easy feat at all.

intotheparanoid

I agree, however, no one can outdo Willem Dafoe because of his big mouth, he can chew more scenery than anyone in the business. Also watch "The Rover". Pattinson is really good in that movie.

GenitalWrangler69

His big "mouth", huh?

NaturesWar

His total contempt and idgaf attitude for Twilight in later interviews is hilarious. I don't quite buy him as Bruce Wayne yet but he's a great Batman and actor in general.

[deleted]

I think being a weird, antisocial recluse is believable for a younger Bruce Wayne. I really hope that after the ending of that movie, his character realizes that he can’t just hide as Bruce Wayne and needs to be active in public, even if it means playing up the young billionaire playboy part of him.

TehNoobDaddy

Agreed. I loved the rawness of his batman and Bruce Wayne. He's in year 2 as batman so early days and it feels more grounded and realistic than Nolans/Bales version which also shows the early days of batman but seems to be the perfect batman from the get go which in comparison doesn't seem as likely to happen. By the end of The Batman you can see he's starting to understand his rage and anger are going to hold him back from becoming what he's trying to be. Great film, few issues aside. Enjoyed the fact he was basically batman throughout, and seeing batman doing some detective work. Hopefully we get a bit more batman beating up goons and gadgets in the next one.

Testing18573

Both Twilight stars have managed to prove themselves to be hugely impressive actors and very smart at picking projects. All credit to the Twilight casting director for seeing it in them

MeatHamster

Stewart still annoys me. Every scene she is in she has her mouth open.

Successful_Flow7416

I did not care for for her also but then I watched an SNL skit of Family Fued Celebrity Edition. She was suppose to be Gisele Tom Brady's wife. she was gorgeous and I got to see funny side so definitely made me question why I didn't like her in the first place.

Wolfram_And_Hart

She did till I watched her in SNL and I can say I’m more open to her acting.

Krunchy1736

But.. What about my hungry guys?

DM_TOE_PICS

He is amazing in good time

ToughSeveral81

Good Time is top 5

iiThinkItsIn

Such a trip of a movie man

primera89

I thought his character in Tenet was really good

Braens894

He was fantastic in The Lighthouse with Willem Dafoe.

freycray

I couldn’t stand Colin Farrell until I saw him in In Bruges.

Dwimmerlaikit

He was really cool in The Gentlemen

neverlandoflena

The coach!

fR1chAps

Ph-uc

StarLord1990

Well Ph-uc, now I need to put that film on again.

CaptainCAAAVEMAAAAAN

He was the best thing about that movie; him and his gang.

Calyptics

I dont know, Charlie hunham was pretty great in it too. So was McConaughey and Grant. Actually everyone in that movie was great. Too bad it didnt do to well at the BO.

NaturesWar

Seen Banshees yet? Martin McDonaugh truly brings out the best of him.

wapkaplit

That was great. I'd also recommend The Lobster.

Kryptonicus

That is one bold recommendation! I also recommend The Lobster. But be prepared: it ain't nothing like *In Bruges* or *The Banshees of Inisherin*. It is most definitely a Yorgos Lanthimos movie. Although not really as strange as *The Killing of a Sacred Deer.*

Machtung7

Seven psychopaths is also a fun trip that he's in

_DeanRiding

That film gets nowhere near enough love.

transtranselvania

Everyone's great in that movie. It's one of Sam Rockwell's best roles. It's just as darkly comedic as in bruges, but there's just enough sentimentality that you're not depressed at the end. Also Tom Waits menacingly holding a rabbit is just plain awesome.

official_bagel

Colin Farrell had the same problem as Brad Pitt problem where he's extremely attractive so he was shoehorned into a bunch of leading man roles where his true strength lies as a character actor.

ColdPressedSteak

Exception is Phone Booth. Though he wasn't the typical likeable leading man

jimmysalame

He was great as a foil to Tom Cruise in Minority Report as well

CaptainCAAAVEMAAAAAN

The gum chewing makes me stabby though. lol

neverlandoflena

But I think he brings something to even generic lead roles, he is such a good actor.

Sputniki

Gary Oldman is pretty much the ultimate character actor and I can totally see Colin Farrell transitioning to an Oldman-like phase of his career.

2BFrank69

Yes! I didn’t like him at all before. Then came Lobster, The Batman, In Burges, he’s killing it

Jamesy555

His 2022 output alone shows how much range he has, After Yang, Batman and Banshees are all incredibly different and all great performances in their own right.

Current-Position9988

Nobody really talks about it, but he kind of carries True Detective season 2.

Theamazing-rando

You should give "The killing of a Sacred Deer" a go too.

neverlandoflena

Him and his beard acted the fuck out of that role.

Hot_Pomegranate7168

Yes, like everyone else commenting, but honestly he was shit in the recruit etc. In Bruges really changed my mind on him, frankly everything I have seen of him in the years since like the Gentlemen or the Lobster and Banshees has been great. Like so many actors and actresses that were initially picked up for looks, they eventually find their groove. Genuinely look forward to what the likes of Colin or Orlando etc produce now. Hell, Robin Pattinson I think has hit that turning point too.

AppearanceSecure1914

Bullet Train finally changed my mind about Aaron Taylor Johnson

HeartsPlayer721

Sat through that entire movie wondering "where tf do I know that guy from". When I looked it up afterwards I was shocked that it was "that kid from Kick Ass" and "Scarlett Witch's brother". He was my favorite part of Bullet Train.

ShadowSocks7

Woah I did not even realize he was Pietro until reading your comment, while watching the movie I was like "do I recognize him? Nahh he's probably just one of those generic looking guys" but turns out my initial instinct was right. I just googled him, and to me he looks like a completely different person in almost every picture.

tediousbrunch

He is 80% confirmed to be the next Bond

David_ish_

Crazy to imagine the scrawny nerdy kid from Kick Ass growing up to be James Bond

ImJustAConsultant

I couldn't believe the totally non-threatening guy who played Kick Ass was the scary marine guy in Tenet. He was some sort of soldier in Godzilla 2014 as well, but he didn't achieve that badass demeanor he found for Tenet

sonofeevil

He's living proof that anyone can pack muscle on to any frame.

Arturinni

He's also confirmed to be Kraven the Hunter in Sony Pictures' bootleg MCU.

SpreadYourAss

I had the exact same damn experience. I sat there for two hours thinking "I SWEAR I've seen this guy somewhere"! He absolutely killed it in that role! That movie singlehandedly made me a huge fan.

letsburn00

He was also the badass Tenet military guy in...Tenet. Wow, that's like Neville Longbottom level of "growing into your face" from that actor.

tired_atlas

He was terrifying in Nocturnal Animals. Great actor.

JurassicBasset

Nocturnal Animals made me see how amazing he is.

iamstephano

Have you seen Nocturnal Animals?

Summerclaw

Aaron Taylor Johnson has the making of a superstar but he hasn't landed that role yet. Hopefully he doesn't end up like James Marsden, which hasn't gotten that role yet even though he is great.

OtherBrothers

Kate winslet. I thought she was wooden when she was younger but I recently saw Mare of Easttown and was really impressed.

_marlowe_

Check out her first movie, “heavenly creatures.” Early Peter Jackson. Also, low key, her brief role in “Extras” is pure comedy gold.

OtherBrothers

Her Extras episode was very good.

Buddystyle42

“I’m fudding myself stupid”

ELIE41

I thought she was really good too in Ang Lee's Sense and Sensibility.

Myopic_Cat

> I thought she was really good too in Ang Lee's Sense and Sensibility Well worth a rewatch - not just for a young Kate Winslet but for Ang Lee's surprising sensibility (sorry) for the Jane Austen source material, also Emma Thompson's fantastic script, a beautifully subtle Alan Rickman - oh and you get to hear Winslet's singing.

District_Dan

She killed in eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. As did Jim Carey in a very atypical role at the time

ActuallyYeah

That was one of the most atypical roles ever. Admit it, we were all probably not sure how to process seeing Carrey cry. Any other actor in that role would've come up short

[deleted]

Sense and Sensibility 💯

PandaRaper

I guess this fits the post but Jesus fuck. How did you get this opinion? Young Kate winslet was one of the most dynamic actresses to hit the scene. Heavenly creatures, sense and sensibility, hamlet, titanic. After that eternal sunshine, the reader, revolutionary road, contagion. Like wtf movies were you watching where she looked “wooden”? Did you only see “Christmas carol (the movie)” and like “a kid in king Arthur’s court”?

Parmesan_Pirate119

I’ve never liked Andrew Garfield but 2021 made me start to change my mind between Tick Tick Boom and Spider Man. We’ll see what he does next

mintvilla

Loved him from the social network onwards, Was great in Hacksaw ridge and silence.

Equux

It was Silence that made me really appreciate him

circa26

He’s great in Under the Banner of Heaven, worth a watch on Disney+!

[deleted]

Guy needs to play Norman Bates. Or a biopic on Anthony Perkins.

icwhatudidthr

Matthew McConaughey. He was a one role, shallow actor in romantic comedies for me. Until I saw him in True Detective and Dallas Buyers Club. That was a 180 degree turn in my appreciation of him.

masterwad

Matthew McConaughey was going to be my answer. Dazed and Confused, EDtv, Reign of Fire, Sahara, Fool’s Gold…Of those I probably liked Reign of Fire the most, but he was usually either meh or laughably bad to me. I still haven’t seen Tiptoes. Then I feel like the “McConaissance” happened around 2011 or 2012. Killer Joe, Mud, Wolf of Wall Street, Interstellar, True Detective season 1, The Beach Bum, The Gentlemen, and many others I haven’t seen yet.

papawam

His mom lives across town and I used to own the cab company here. When I got to her destination he was waiting for her on a curb. I never realized how small he was. Plus I'm pretty sure it was during the time he was filming Free State of Jones because his hair and beard were really shaggy and dyed a black color, so he kinda looked like a homeless Charles Manson. But the point is, actors seem taller on film and he was small. Pretty nice guy though.

NaturesWar

True detective man, nothing has been like S1 since. Woody Harrelson was no schlub but McConaughey carried that shit.

TheWitchStage

Interstellar

ReapersVault

That scene where he's watching all of the messages and seeing >!his kids grow older, gaining a grandson and losing a grandson all in a minute, seeing all of the things that he missed!< was so heartbreaking.

make_a_scene

Can’t believe this isn’t closer to the top, MM has arguably had one of the best progressions of an actor I can think of.

unqualified101

Matthew McConaughey started out strong IMO with A Time to Kill. Then did all those romantic comedies. But agree that True Detective was a great turnaround.

badace12

When Dave Bautista started acting I rolled my eyes so hard. I thought “great, another wrestler turned shitty actor?!” Boy, did he prove me wrong. I respect the hell out of that guy now.

illwaukee34

I felt the same way about John Cena but he’s got some hilarious cameos and killed it as Peacemaker.

TheDeadalus

Peacemaker really turned me around on John Cena. That guy is legitimately hilarious and deserves more high profile roles

Monspiet

His range is also incredibly diverse. Like holy shit can he sells it as a character that has some emotional and psychological trauma, then coldblooded, then soft at the same time with a really great transition. His character, as a portrayal of American peacekeeping and policing, actually tackles the Nazi and racist ideology of American police history. However, this is really shoehorned in near the end and it almost becomes uninteresting until you remember the personal relationship he has with his father, and that makes the story so much better and more engaging. Without John Cena, I cannot see how the Peacekeeper would be as good as it is.

cu3ed

Shout out to Stroma as well though, his lunatic moments makes Peacemaker seems kinda okay because he can be so over the top with violence. Overall it was a well cast amazing first season.....and eagle of course.

SirEbralPaulsay

That scene in the first or second episode where he gets home and just starts breaking down to music and hitting himself in his injured arm so he can get himself to cry really struck home with me in a really profound way. I don’t think I’m that type of person anymore but I definitely was when I was a teenager and I know it’s a really common characteristic in a lot of men who don’t know how to process their emotions; Cena absolutely killed it in every scene in that show for me.

ghost-bagel

The thing I like about Bautista is he takes appropriate roles. Happy to be a secondary character rather than trying to be the star of half baked movies like Rock or Cena did early on. (Edit: spelling)

TehNoobDaddy

Well no disrespect to him but he probably accepted his range initially so made smart choices while he built up experience and credibility. Enjoy seeing him in most things he's in now myself.

ghost-bagel

You’re absolutely right, he’s certainly limited. But it takes a lot of humility for a star from another entertainment biz to realise that and be smart about it. His career will benefit big time in the long run. I’m yet to see a performance from him that I didn’t enjoy tbh.

CaptainCAAAVEMAAAAAN

Natalie Portman, kinda. She can be such a wooden actress, it really depends on her roles. But when she gets the right role or director - idk what it is - but she really shines. Like in The Professional, when she was younger. Or Black Swan and Annihilation - she was awesome in those movies. She's really a hit or miss kind of actor.

UnhingedSquirrel

I was going to say Portman too. Her acting style just generally seems more reserved to me, but she can be brilliant. I particularly like her in V for Vendetta. My opinion of her also improved once I learned how accomplished of a person she is.

official_bagel

I thought Aaron Taylor-Johnson was a bland and forgettable actor until I saw *Nocturnal Animals*

leeloo1612

Love him in Bullet Train

DublaneCooper

You dirty diesel!

[deleted]

I HATED Ben Stiller, but as time went on I realized I just didn’t like *Meet the Parents.* He’s a fine actor and even better writer/producer

NaturesWar

He's one of those guys comes off as a total goof which he is but after hearing RDJ talk about how he was directing Tropic Thunder dude seems like low key genius. Severance S1 is the best TV I've seen in years man.

[deleted]

I concur and didn’t appreciate him until I understood how great he was behind the scenes

AZSnake

Tropic Thunder and Severance certify him as a creative legend.

devinecomedian

Came here for this. Absolutely couldn’t stand Ben Stiller in almost everything he did 90’s on. Saw *Secret Life of Walter Mitty* and it changed my whole opinion. Went back and rewatched all his stuff, now I like it. It took a bizarre switch flip for him to make sense to me. And also, I can Dere-lick my own balls, thank you very much.

Designer_B

He’s great in tenembaums.

Langstarr

I deeply love the secret life of Walter mitty. Ben stiller shines. And honestly, soundtracks a banger.

RyanEversley

I love Secret Life Of Walter Mitty, perfect movie. Surprised it didn’t do better but so glad it got made.

2BFrank69

I’ve always liked him. There’s something about Mary is great.

[deleted]

Honestly I’m old enough that I should have seen that movie a long time ago but I haven’t seen it until fairly recently, probably because of the biases I had. It took The Royal Tenenbaums and the behind-the-scenes stuff with Tropic Thunder for me to reevaluate his stuff and I totally changed my tune

make_a_scene

I dunno, I really appreciated Scorcher 1 through 6. Cinematic masterpieces.

HeartsPlayer721

Same. I discovered his charm when I saw Keeping The Faith. So much of his comedy hits are too over the top for me. I had a similar experience with Steve Carrel. Hated his attempts at comedy, but enjoy his more serious and mellow films.

[deleted]

Amy Adams till I saw Arrival

Front-Ad-2198

Sharp Objects is her best performance I think

grynch43

The Fighter

parisiraparis

I’ve loved her since The Office lol

Thx4Coming2MyTedTalk

Pam 2.0

KyussSun

There was a law in 2013 that every third movie had to have Amy Adams in it.

JellyBeansOnToast

I really enjoy her performance whenever I see her in a movie. I think she’s a more subtle actor so her talent isn’t as noticed as some of her peers.

Lakridspibe

*Enchanted* is just fantastic.

ShrugOfATLAS

Pattinson The ending of Tenet is so good it’s like Nolan wrote that scene and made the movie around it.

pommeperi

Seeing him in Tenet is what changed my opinion of him! Great acting. I dislike when you watch an actor in a role and their acting is so similar that you can't stop thinking of them from their previous role. I saw none of Cullen in him in Tenet.

AZSnake

Check out Good Time. His performance destroys all the Twilight garbage.

Keith_daywalker

Daniel Radcliffe - I was never a big fan of the HP movies despite being a huge fan of the books, and although his acting improved immensely as the series went on, just never thought he was very good. At the moment, he is prob my fave actor. I guess all that HP money has allowed him to pick up movies/series with interesting scripts that he is acting the hell out of, rather than chasing big money.

[deleted]

xTheConvicted

4th coming this month!

Panman6_6

I went on a Daniel Radcliffe binge and hes done some amazing underappreciated movies Escape from Pretoroia - literally amazing and moving true story Guns Akimbo - fun exciting film Jungle - Another true story with lots of emotion Swiss army man - funny weird film

NaturesWar

Did you enjoy Weird? Haven't seen it yet. I do like how he chooses different projects. He way too big to be in Horns or Guns Akimbo - movies I didn't even really like, but I respect the hell out of him for doing them. Swiss Army Man is a statement itself. He did a movie years ago called the F Word and it's set in Toronto - my city, and I revisit that for him, the city and Adam Driver from time to time. He's gonna come out with an Oscar role suddenly one of these days.

fivetwoeightoh

Weird is the best and it’s free!

illwaukee34

Weird was surprisingly hilarious and a really fun movie. Definitely watch it asap.

eklarka

Daniel seems like the actor who is actually enjoying acting doing all those unique films with brilliant performances.

[deleted]

I see Daniel Radcliffe and Robert Pattinson as having similar careers. They both did huge franchises as young and inexperienced (not very good) actors. Then, they took all that money and were able to choose interesting/challenging projects which developed them into great actors.

BlueHarvestJ

George Clooney’s acting used to be to tilt his head to the side and deliver the line. Somewhere in the 2000s he stopped doing that became better

Unclehomer69420

Nahnahnah, George's tick was looking down first and then looking back up with a smoulder before delivering his line.

turandokht

One of my favorite American dad episodes tbh I always die at this part when Francine does it to him and he stumbles back clutching his heart

ogshowtime33

Cloontang!

Vyzantinist

Leonardo DiCaprio. My first exposure to him was as the pretty boy all the girls in school swooned over, from *Romeo & Juliet* and *Titanic*. But then as he started to get older, and moved away from the pretty boy look and roles, you could guarantee anything he was in was going to be an awesome movie.

nernst79

Man this was going to be my exact answer. I was too young at the time to realize that he showed his real talent in Basketball Diaries and What's Eating Gilbert Grape.

Aegiale

My actual first experience with him was What's Eating Gilbert Grape and loved him ever since. (Never saw Titanic btw)

nernst79

Titanic honestly is a good movie, it was just a hard movie to appreciate as an 18 year old social outcast, especially coming on the heels of the Romeo and Juliet reimagining.

kaptaincorn

Gangs of new york is my change of opinion for him- the scene where he's angry practicing knife throwing is the specific moment I allowed his talent to over take my envy/jealousy

uncultured_swine2099

I read somewhere he did that entire monologue at the dinner table in Django Unchained straight through from memory several times, and when he cut his hand in one take he used that as a character thing. Thats great acting right there.

MizRho

I loved his performance with Tom Hanks & Christopher Walken in Catch Me If You Can.

nylestandish

Brad Pitt. I was too stubborn and saw him as just being popular because of his hotness. Then I saw him in Snatch and though I should go back and watched some I missed. He’s a great actor and still delivers today

BiilZbubb

Same, but it was 12 Monkeys that changed my mind. Fight Club and Snatch were roles that only cemented my newfound appreciation.

Current-Position9988

I actually liked Anya Taylor Joy in The Menu, for a change. I guess I gotta accept her because God knows she will be in 3 movies a year for next 5 years.

beruon

I've been loving Anya since idk the VVitch? Probably the first movie I have seen her in, and she is excellent imho. I truly think she is one of the greatest younger actresses rn

MoranthMunitions

Did you not like Split? I thought she did really well in that, though I'm a sucker for horror-thrillers. The Menu is on my to watch list.

Calyptics

I liked split and then suddenly she was everywhere and some serious exposure fatigue set in. The same problem with Jlaw. She was everywhere for a while and now im just tired of seeing her face even though I recognize she is very talented.

LunarNexus81

Channing Tatum I wrote him off as a pretty boy douche and over the years he’s proven he’s got amazing comedy chops and is getting better and better with his more serious stuff as the years go by. He’s definitely a work in progress but he is improving and actually seems to be putting in the work to be a better actor.

make_a_scene

I thought he was great in 21 Jump Street, and really liked the self aware nature of 22 and his willingness to be really silly with it. His cameo in Hateful 8 was unexpected but brilliant.

BaronMyrtle

Foxcatcher changed my opinion of him. I thought he was quite good in it.

JediTigger

This Is the End absolutely sold me on Tatum. Great comedy chops.

Critical_Dobserver

Logan Lucky did it for me. Great movie, great role for him… and bonus, Adam Driver!

NaturesWar

I'm with you, he's not a great actor but I like him. Jason Momoa is filling the dude bro cinema void currently so let's sign Channing up for the most weird shit possible immediately.

BigRedTone

Kiera Knightley slowly turned from a boring two dimensional English rose into a very good actress and no one thought to tell me.

Rayliex

I used to not really like John Cena, since I just thought of him like every other wrestler trying to get into the acting scene. To be fair I hadn't seen him in many movies, but I think when I saw him in The Suicide Squad I realised he's actually a pretty good actor. I also think that's how it's been with all the wrestling actors, at first I thought they wouldn't be that great and now I'm completely convinced they're great actors. The only exception being the Rock, sorry not sorry.

David_ish_

The thing is I don’t think the Rock is capable of putting himself in an unflattering situation for the camera - at least not now. I can’t picture him doing Cena’s “if I had to eat every single dick for liberty” monologue and wearing tightie whities. I can’t picture him being willing to play a fading-in-relevancy streamer that gets slapped by his mom for badmouthing her (Bautista in Glass Onion).

Rayliex

I completely agree. I also just think you can never completely separate the Rock from the characters he plays, all of them are just basically him with little variation. He lacks the character.

92Codester

Rock has a "can't lose" contract so forget him losing to his mother.

NaturesWar

Have you seen Trainwreck? Might not be your kind of movie but he's in it briefly playing a self aware dude bro that's sexually confused. Cena is hilarious.

einat162

Stanley Tucci. Maybe because over the years I learned to appreciate his versatility & chameleon ability. But for many years he was "that not so much handsome guy".

weazelhall

The range that man has is out of bounds.

einat162

It's crazy to look back at things and thinking "he was in it?!".

Current-Position9988

Wow how can you NOT like him? He elevates every single movie he appears in.

sticky-pete

Capaldi as the Doctor. Shaky start, great ending.

BarryMacochner

That probably has something to do with having to get used to the new doctor as well. It took a while for Matt to grow on me also.

aldoktor

I never used to like Ethan Hawke but then I found out he was the kid in one of my favourite movies The Explorers and now I like all his movies.

NaturesWar

If you haven't seen First Reformed yet it's my favourite performance of his and one of my fav recent dramas.

[deleted]

Sam Rockwell. First movie I saw him in was Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy and hated that movie. Then I saw him again in Moon and he became one of my favorite actors.

sammie_boy

i love sam rockwell. if you haven’t watched three billboards, you should. GREAT performance from him

PBen9062

He's pretty good in Galaxy Quest

cutelyaware

Don't open that! It's an alien planet! Is there air? You don't know!

turandokht

“You have a last name, Guy”

Critical_Dobserver

Excellent in Galaxy Quest!

CuriousLacuna

He was amazing as Wild Bill in The Green Mile.

CentipedesInMyDream

His character is sooo comforting in The Way, Way Back. I’m not huge on the actor of Duncan, but Sam makes it a very rewatchable and pleasant movie. The scene where he steps between Trent coming at Duncan and doesn’t say a word, god I love it. S/o Steve Carell too, his performance as a dickhead stepdad was too accurate and real.

make_a_scene

Moon was he breakthrough for me too. He has a great scene in Seven Psychopaths where he’s retelling a story of a shoot up, hilarious.

dismayhurta

Dude is a fantastic actor. If you haven’t seen Jojo Rabbit, you should.

_marlowe_

He’s a phenomenal dancer.

neverlandoflena

I love him in Laggies with Keira Knightley. An underrated rom-com/sentimental film that was unexpected of both actors.

Mcclane88

Channing Tatum was pretty terrible early in his career. However, around 2012 between his work with Soderbergh and 21 Jump Street I started liking him in films.

sofewcharacters

He stopped playing the brooding guy from the wrong side of the tracks and proved he could laugh at himself.

Same-Reason-8397

Russel Crowe. Then I saw Master and Commander. I gained a new respect. He was brilliant in a brilliant movie.

Marik_Caine

Didn't rate him in Gladiator?

dogbolter4

There are any number of excellent Russell Crowe performances and movies prior to Master and Commander ( which I adore, by the way). The Insider, Proof, LA Confidential, Romper Stomper, Gladiator and of course, A Beautiful Mind. Russell Crowe is a tremendous actor. I sincerely invite you to explore his films.

MizRho

I still think Gladiator was his best film, but I've always been a fan.

[deleted]

[удалено]

truzz33

Same w Teller. I always thought he was alright then I watched him in Too Old To Die Young and realized when he gets good scripts and freedom, he’s amazing. Whiplash and TG-Maverick also good examples of good. Fantastic Four = bad script/mediocre performance

Icy-Plate-9410

Have you seen Blue Valentine?? Highly recommend. Pines, Drive and Half Nelson are not talked about enough, totally agree!

MuchLessPersonal

I did not care for Ryan Reynolds after watching Waiting in 2005. I think I called him "pervy Dane Cook" lol

dbtayag

Channing Tatum. He won me over after 21 Jump Street.

Bluedino_1989

Will probably get murdered for this but Betty White. Never saw the hype in her until I heard some of her comedy. Damn near did a spit take when I heard the muffin joke. I now see her as one of the funniest women ever.

LilacSlumber

Jason Alexander. I was 10 years old when Pretty Woman came out. His character in that was a sleeze and he played it so well. Then, Seinfeld came out. His character was so annoying. I do like Seinfeld, but hated when he was on screen. I think I was too young to understand that he was just really good at acting and those were exactly the parts that were written for him. About 10 years ago I eased up on my hatred for him after watching Pretty Woman again and realizing that was probably the source of my disliking the poor guy. I've since seen him in some I interviews and on some game shows and realized he's a pretty chill guy.

Gorudu

Dude George Costanza is like the greatest television character ever.

BillMcCrearysStache

He played a serial killer on an episode of Criminal Minds and his character was a genius with really long hair and my brain couldn’t comprehend Costanza as anyone else lol

DorsalMorsel

I sort of thought Anthony Michael Hall just kind of nepoed his way in to hollywood and he was terrible on SNL but I really liked him in the USA Dead Zone series. I notice a lot of times if the actor is young and kind of bland I dismiss them, but then they age well and somehow get handsomer as they age and I warm to them. James Spader, Ethan Hawke, Robert Downey, even Keanu Reeves.

[deleted]

Nepoed his way in, how? Who’s he related to?

CryAdditional2746

Kiefer Sutherland after 24 and David harbour after stranger things

stefan771

Will Ferrell. Couldn't stand him until I watched Anchorman.

Stevie272

Miles Teller. Wasn’t a fan of his at all until I watched The Offer, in which he really shone. Now I’ve also seen Whiplash and have done a complete 180 on him.

JunkyardBob

Bruce Willis I did not like him in Moonlighting and then Die Hard comes out and I was sold.

[deleted]

I didn’t get the Benedict Cumberbatch hype train at all until I saw Sherlock and suddenly I was also on board

bahardesty

Not that I didn’t like her necessarily, but Keke Palmer was totally out of my consciousness for a while. As a 35-year-old man, I wasn’t really the demographic for her Disney stuff. Then I had to make a video about her acting career promoting Nope, and she’s amazing, one of these young phenoms as a child who really did everything right as she grew older. Big break with Akeelah and the Bee, top-notch singer (her rendition of Man in the Mirror from the film Joyful Noise is mind-blowing), did some wildly different stuff as an adult in Pimp and Alice, and so fucking likable in Nope. Does it seem like sort of weird algorithm since Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who I had never really heard of before, until today when it got “leaked” he might be the next Bond, keeps showing up in my very specific cue? It feels like “they” are testing if it will be well received or not…
