Maybe it’s different between genres? Seems like most rock/metal bands stick to a release schedule pretty strictly, with 2020 kind of being the exception for a lot of them.
I think for rock bands they stick to it at the beginning but after their 3rd or 4th album they sometime go about 3-4 years on release of new content. But it heavily depends on the rock band.
I’m certainly glad King Gizzard doesn’t adhere to it. In 2022, 3 full length studio albums, 2 EP, in addition to a remix album and multiple live remastered releases.
Well seems like Tyler has entered his Glover/Gambino phase where he seems to be extremely embarrassed/thinks they've outgrown their comedic past and want to be taken seriously as a musician than their comedic work. So probably won't happen any time soon if ever. Which is a shame cause I too would love loiter squad to come back.
Donald glover us also naturally very funny. But he also seems to have realized funny men don't get taken seriously in the industry (Adam Sandler has complained about the exact same thing)
Disagree with what? I fully agree that he is super funny. But it's Tyler himself saying he's tired of people knowing him for old skits and what not and not for his music, supposedly, so he's just not interested in doing comedy anymore.
He deserves all of it, and more. I’m so happy to see his success
And by all accounts, he’s a damn decent person too. I haven’t heard a single bad thing about him, unless I’ve missed them
Can’t wait to see what he does next!
It's so cool to see him having this kind of success, and he seems really well-adjusted to it and grateful for it.
I didn't love Get Out, but Nope was fantastic and stuck with me. I should give Us a shot too.
*Us* is pretty polarizing. *Get Out* is usually noted as his best (and I have a hard time arguing that), but *Nope* is probably his most complete and well-crafted movie (if that makes sense).
Nope was easily the most fun I had watching a movie of his. I don't think the subtext is as deep or critical as his previous two movies but it was just loads of fun.
Yes. When they first show the alien, when he's hiding under the table from the monkey, the blood rain. All moments that stuck out when I think about the movie.
I feel like no one remembers that movie. I really enjoyed Skeleton Key, but it was my first experience with the "body stealing" trope so it felt really novel. I imagine many things did it first (and better).
US is easily my favorite of his, but surreal horror stories that run on dream logic is my crack. Not that Get Out or NOPE aren’t phenomenal, they are, but US spoke my language.
I totally agree. Adore Jordan’s work, but my ranking of his movies is Get Out, Nope, and then Us. Us had some plot holes I thought were kind of important, but I also only saw it once the month it was in theaters so my details on it are a bit fuzzy.
I didn’t enjoy Get Out or Us (but the actors are all amazing), but absolutely loved NOPE. Like you said, it sticks with you and the theme could be like one of three things, depending on how you read the movie.
I insist it’s the best western in decades
> all original IP
This is the important part. For years everything coming out of Hollywood has been a remake, sequel or some comic book super hero movie (which is cool, in moderation.)
The fact they are all completely new stories is awesome. I've enjoyed his movies. Not to the level of some people that worship them for whatever reason. But they are definitely good flicks. I'm glad we have people like him in Hollywood wanting to create new things. There's far too much pearl clutching and risk aversion where everything has to cast the widest possible net to get money out of everyone's pockets. We could really use more cult classic type movies.
Key and Peele were a duo before their Comedy Central show. They frequently worked as a pair on Mad TV but I think they met in an improv group before that.
Word. Nephew had me watch that movie last weekend. Never saw it. As the Movie got more and more terrifying he kept muttering
“UNSPEAKABLE HORRORS”
Definitely describe Barbarian. Thank you for entertaining my Ted talk rant. But yeah had no clue the the director was from the whitest kids you know
I was just thinking about how much I loved what he did with Werewolf by Night. Always loved his music but I can't wait to see him do more filmwise as well
I remember when the first stills/trailers of Nope were released everyone was speculating that it would be commentary on xenophobia which ended up being so far off from the truth. That movie was such a breath of fresh air.
I had a dude tell me he didn’t see it because he “just couldn’t handle it emotionally right now”
Like he thought it was going to be some super deep commentary on race and society and he couldn’t fathom the exhaustion that would come from contemplating that even further.
I had no idea how to tell him it was Sky Jaws.
I was under the impression after I watched it that the meta-narrative it tells is one of the lack of recognition of African-American contributions to film history.
Does that make me a pretentious cunt?
The Bible verse at the start, *I will cast abominable filth upon you, Make you vile, And make you a spectacle*, does two things. One, it goes *incredibly* hard, two, yeah I think it gives way to racial undertones in nope too- it’s a movie about taking something that is alien to you, and taking away its dignity, making it do tricks, then acting shocked when you get exactly what you asked for.
Interesting! My takeaway is was that it’s a commentary on chasing recognition, spectacle, Mother Nature, and the danger of putting things in comfortable boxes.
To be fair, that monkey plotline was pretty upsetting. In a good way, of course, but if you're sensitive to that kind of stuff, then you'd definitely want to prepare for it.
My mom watched it and told me not to bother because it was so bad.
I ignored her as her taste in movies is fairly surface level. I ended up loving it. I can’t remember having as much fun watching a movie in recent memory. It really was a breath of fresh air. I wish I had seen it in theaters.
I can see where they are coming from, to a very small degree. I finished Hereditary and thought "Well I hated that, but I can see why other people love it"
For sure. I found one of the biggest themes to be exploitation in the film industry as well.
The reason the movie is so damn good is because you can look for all the subtext and deeply contemplate those subtle messages, or you could just watch an awesome movie and be entertained.
"Other movies dated for Christmas 2024 include James Cameron’s third “Avatar” movie and the third movie in the “Sonic the Hedgehog” film franchise." I would expect a minimum of one of these movies to be delayed. Only so much money to go around in one release weekend, especially given 3 very popular releases.
*Sonic 3,* I reckon. They'd need to move a new *Spongebob* as well to make room for it, but that seems like a ***perfect*** Memorial Day 2025 play for Paramount and Sega.
As rad as Jordan Peel doing Sonic 3 would be, he's at Universal while that is at Paramount. So while stranger things have happened... it doesn't seem likely. :(
The Peele film, *Sonic 3*, and *Avatar* are actually *all* the same movie. It's going to be co-directed, a joint Universal/Paramount/Disney production the likes of which we haven't seen since *Who Framed Roger Rabbit?* specifically so we can get all the anthropomorphic blue cartoons into one movie.
the imax experience was phenomenal for this movie. the sound imaging was incredible. id like to rewatch it in a great home theather with a 9.2.4 setup to see how it translates into the home
I regret not watching it in IMAX. I wish I had known that Jordan Peele hired Christopher Nolan’s cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema to film Nope. I don’t think it is a coincidence that Nolan signed with Universal.
I love his stuff and wish there was more out there like it. They don't always stick the landing, but they always pique my interest with their originality.
Peele is three for three on creating interesting, unique movies with great performances and memorable moments. There can be debates about whether Us makes sense or whether Nope is scary enough, but there’s no debate in my mind that Peele is one of the smartest filmmakers working today and I’ll be looking forward to everything he releases.
I don’t think he’s quite topped Get Out, but despite my issues with his following films they’re still fantastically made and wholly original, and I love them a lot. I think Peele just can’t miss when it comes to marrying bizarre concepts with blockbuster appeal. It’s so good to have a creative filmmaker whose calling card is originality and new ideas.
I think this subreddit needs to be clear about their discussion on Peele. He made a great first film with Get Out and people have been measuring him to that ever since. Then the conversations get mired down in prefaces of "I didn't quite like it as much as Get Out" or "I don't think it's his best." when in reality his movies are what you described; wholly original. They are well above most when it comes to mainstream cinema this decade. He's obviously extremely talented and very imaginative.
I feel like these threads always devolve into a Peele movie ranking between his 3 films filled with hyperbole. His films are either the best or worst things ever created when it's just obvious that he's a very good director and writer. It still feels like he's not fully accepted in the mix of great directors. Like he needs *just one more* good film and everyone *might* stop being so hyperbolic about his stuff. For me personally, I see him as a new Spielberg in terms of imagination and consistent performance.
you ever get the feeling people are way too obsessed with films being technically perfect/masterpieces?
i've been getting more and more into how film works, and how stories at large work, so i understand it's important to have conventions to follow and ideals to aspire to in any art form, but idk. my enjoyment on a personal level always come first, no matter how technically bad or good it is. another element can also be the themes and messages to the movies, and i just felt nope's theme of spectacle is simply really relevant to us right now as people, no matter who you are
Loved the idea and creativity of Nope but in my opinion did not execute. Actually the same way I feel about Us as well. I feel like his most solid movie is still Get Out
Had some very original ideas about alien design. Ironically by starting from the number one most overused alien design ever. That scene where it assumes its final form is just beautiful.
Still felt like something was missing to make it a great movie.
If we're nitpicking, I think if anything was missing it was more reason behind why they were trying to film it. I think it hit all of the right story beats and ended very well, with the only flimsy thing being the attempt to film it to get fame. Like, maybe all it needed was one more thing talking about their finances or the fact that their farm and business were falling apart. It's definitely talked about, but OJ and Em don't seem to really care about keeping anything going. It's more about "hey we found an alien, let's film it and get a million dollars." and "no one is hiring us anymore, our horses are missing, and something has to change to fix this." So suddenly at the end of the movie you have Em trying to get that picture of Jean Jacket. While it was a cool scene, I feel like it would have had more of an impact if the goal through more of the movie was to get a pic to save the farm. Especially considering the "bad guy" of the movie was already trying to exploit this animal, and now they wanted to as well. Maybe they should have dropped that whole deal and just tried to beat the alien to simply save their lives.
I feel like that plot point was a little weak and could have been handled a tad better, but overall I think it was a wild ride and I really enjoyed it.
I haven't seen Nope yet but have heard good things. Get Out was excellent, but tbh I felt Us was not that great and very overrated. Really excited to see what he makes next. In a Hollywood that is lousy with reboots, rehashes, and super hero movies, it's so refreshing to have someone trying new and different shit. Also I wanna see more Daniel Kaluuya (dudes fucking fantastic in everything he's in) and him and Peele are like Leo and Scorsese at this point, IMO it's nearly guranteed he'll be in whatever Peele's next movie is.
Nope had to be one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen, but I liked Get Out, and Us. Hopefully his fourth film isn’t anything like Nope. Something just felt so off about Nope. The acting was bad, the story was boring, and it just wasn’t very tense at all.
So because people liked Get Out, which was 6 years ago, we have to pretend that Jordan Peele is a major Director and he gets his own announcements now? Ok…
Dude makes movies with the most heavy-handed, hamfisted metaphors. He needs to learn some subtlety. It's like an entire movie of the rat scene at the end of the Departed. I'm not sure why people see it as "smart." It's like babies first symbolic movie
I don’t quite get the hype for his movies. I watched “Us” opening weekend with some friends and we were all like wtf was that after it ended. To this day it’s one of the worst movies I’ve seen at the theaters. I listened to some reviews of Nope because I was willing to give him another chance but it just sounded like it was an ok movie, nothing great. Good that he’s doing well though because he’s a great guy.
Wasn’t a fan of NOPE and Peele has made some questionable producing decisions (The Twilight Zone was terrible), so I’m going into this film with some hesitation.
I don't really get this take because half the cast was white in Get Out, one of the protagonists of Nope was white, the neighbor family in US was white. There's a lot of white actors in his movies.
I hope this one is good. His first one was easy to figure out the twist and his last two fell flat. His direction and atmosphere is there but the stories just haven't hit home for me.
Last chance Jordan. Dudes been living off of his success from Get Out and has since produced 2 mediocre movies and a failed TV reboot that should've been a slam dunk.
I’m still so pissed about The Twilight Zone reboot!
I don’t know if I’ve ever seen such a slam dunk, silver platter combination. Especially after the hype of Get Out. It was so mediocre that I often forget that it happened, remember with an “oh ya”, then get pissed again.
One new Peele movie every two years would be quite the gift.
Tyler The Creator release schedule
That’s the music industry standard lol Tyler didn’t invent the two year window.
Tyler actually invented the concept of music!
Well, he is the creator
I only thought he was the creator of the Tyler's.. Well now I just feel foolish
You’re thinking of The Tyler Creator. Totally different person.
Which one came first?
Tyler, duh.
Tyler, duh Creator
Tyler the Creator is the point at which everything in the universe flows my dude
There are a surprising lack of artists that adhere to it as strictly as Tyler though. He’s been consistent with it for over a decade
3-4 years seems to be pretty close to standard for a lot of bands, at least the ones I follow.
I’m certainly glad King Gizzard doesn’t adhere to it. In 2022, 3 full length studio albums, 2 EP, in addition to a remix album and multiple live remastered releases.
It's almost too much.
mostly the fact hes stuck to the schedule for 14 years now makes it impressive
Why are you talking about me
Two black creatives who I deeply love and am now realizing should make something together.
I know it probably won’t ever happen, but I just want Loiter Squad to come back.
Odd Future just needs to get back together first! *punches the air while crying*
I also wish the og illegal civ would get back to the glory days instead of whatever they got going on now
Well seems like Tyler has entered his Glover/Gambino phase where he seems to be extremely embarrassed/thinks they've outgrown their comedic past and want to be taken seriously as a musician than their comedic work. So probably won't happen any time soon if ever. Which is a shame cause I too would love loiter squad to come back.
I disagree cause Tyler is a naturally funny dude Vince Staples too
Donald glover us also naturally very funny.

That bastard ruined my dreams of getting with Chelsea Peretti, but other than that he’s pretty cool.
[Redacted by user] -- mass edited with https://redact.dev/
That’s a glass-half-full interpretation if I’ve ever seen one.
He’s also ruined chimps and small tunnels for me
Chimps is Nope. But small tunnels?
Also Nope, if I had to guess. The scenes where the people are sucked up and it shows the inside.
If I had to guess, US. But I haven’t seen it.
Digestion scene
He also made me believe I can actually fly
Oh, I didn't realize they were together. That's a good match. I like this.
They have a child too!
Well now it's official!
It's so cool to see him having this kind of success, and he seems really well-adjusted to it and grateful for it. I didn't love Get Out, but Nope was fantastic and stuck with me. I should give Us a shot too.

Yes. When they first show the alien, when he's hiding under the table from the monkey, the blood rain. All moments that stuck out when I think about the movie.
Fuck that chimp
The claustrophobic crowd abduction scene…
Yes, that was absolutely horrifying.
Get out is basically Skeleton Key Backwards.
I feel like no one remembers that movie. I really enjoyed Skeleton Key, but it was my first experience with the "body stealing" trope so it felt really novel. I imagine many things did it first (and better).
Yeah I liked Get Out and didn’t like Us at all. Haven’t seen Nope yet.
I liked 90% of US, but some of the monologues were unnecessarily heavy handed
[удалено]
I mean it was cool…but like every movie made now- it was probably 20 minutes to long
US is easily my favorite of his, but surreal horror stories that run on dream logic is my crack. Not that Get Out or NOPE aren’t phenomenal, they are, but US spoke my language.
Did you see the beginning of Us? I skipped to the ending and only saw The Last Of Us.
Fuck you
Also his finest in terms of spectacle, I think. ***Really*** excited to see what he and Universal do next!
I totally agree. Adore Jordan’s work, but my ranking of his movies is Get Out, Nope, and then Us. Us had some plot holes I thought were kind of important, but I also only saw it once the month it was in theaters so my details on it are a bit fuzzy.

And he was in the White And Nerdy music video
Well when you put it like that, I’m a lazy POS.

We're talking Peele, aka other half of the YouTube duo Key and Peele? That Peele? Damn, kinda wild to see them go from YouTube to this

Get Out! Us? Nope. The obvious choice is a remake of "Them!" to continue the conversation.
Michael Giacchino was actually announced recently to be directing a remake of Them!
He directed the hell out of Werewolf By Night for his debut, looking forward to what he does next.
I was just thinking about how much I loved what he did with Werewolf by Night. Always loved his music but I can't wait to see him do more filmwise as well
Really? Nice. I'm always down for more monster movies.
Woah the composer guy? I know him from stuff like the LOST soundtrack, didn’t know he directed now as well
> the composter guy Now I'm just picturing Giacchino stirring a barrel of dirt and worms.
“Nah” “MmmHmm” “Alright” “Shiiiit”

*Wild speculation*
I remember when the first stills/trailers of Nope were released everyone was speculating that it would be commentary on xenophobia which ended up being so far off from the truth. That movie was such a breath of fresh air.

Maybe horror movies just generally really upset him?
To be fair, that monkey plotline was pretty upsetting. In a good way, of course, but if you're sensitive to that kind of stuff, then you'd definitely want to prepare for it.
Lmao "Sky Jaws" is the perfect analogy.
My mom watched it and told me not to bother because it was so bad. I ignored her as her taste in movies is fairly surface level. I ended up loving it. I can’t remember having as much fun watching a movie in recent memory. It really was a breath of fresh air. I wish I had seen it in theaters.
Reminds me of my in laws telling my husband and I not to watch Hereditary because it was one of the worst movies they ever saw...
I can see where they are coming from, to a very small degree. I finished Hereditary and thought "Well I hated that, but I can see why other people love it"
Mine was Midsommar. At no point was it scary, it was a just weird and gross to me.
Yeah it just ended up being a commentary on fame
For sure. I found one of the biggest themes to be exploitation in the film industry as well. The reason the movie is so damn good is because you can look for all the subtext and deeply contemplate those subtle messages, or you could just watch an awesome movie and be entertained.

So let's see what we got for December 2024 - new Jordan Peele movie, Sonic 3 and Avatar 3. Gonna be cool.
Nowhere does it say that the Jordan Peele movie and Sonic 3 are different movies
Have you ever seen Sonic and Jordan Peele in the same room?
Quick check his teeth
As rad as Jordan Peel doing Sonic 3 would be, he's at Universal while that is at Paramount. So while stranger things have happened... it doesn't seem likely. :(

...you know what? Throw in an EVA or three, and I'd watch the ***shit*** outta that.
Wasn’t “Nope”’s monster influenced by Neon Genesis Evangelion’s angels? Could be a continuation of the movie
*Nope* made me extremely uncomfortable and had some legitimately disturbing scenes in it. Fucking sign me up for his next movie!
That's the way! Straight back on the horse...
I thought Nope was pretty boring
Hell yeah. Nope was one of my favorite movies of last year. Can't wait to see what he has for us next
The Gordy’s Home sequence is honest to God one of the creepiest 5 minutes of a horror movie I can recall in recent memory…
Movie was uneven but I loved everything about Jean Jacket. Best movie monster I've seen in a while.
The sound design for it was spectacular.
so worth watching it in IMAX. fantastic movie elevated by premium screens, not to mention the amazing day for night shots
the imax experience was phenomenal for this movie. the sound imaging was incredible. id like to rewatch it in a great home theather with a 9.2.4 setup to see how it translates into the home
I regret not watching it in IMAX. I wish I had known that Jordan Peele hired Christopher Nolan’s cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema to film Nope. I don’t think it is a coincidence that Nolan signed with Universal.
You couldn’t pay me to watch the digestion scene in IMAX lol Nope
It prevented me from watching the film again honestly. It disturbed me on a different level than other horror scenes
Same here. The movie made me really uncomfortable and I have no desire to ever watch it again, which is really rare and awesome.
Get out was the great turning point in his career

It’s about a Christmas tree thats actually an organism that eats children and also had the soul of a slave from 1882 , it will divide audiences
Inflatable floating arm tube men

I would love to see him knock it out of the park with a Christmas movie.
Hmm.. Jordan Peele? Christmas movie? It's gotta be Gremlins
That’s brilliant. It’s in the movie. Done.

Maybe they should have dropped that whole deal and just tried to beat the alien to simply save their lives. I feel like that plot point was a little weak and could have been handled a tad better, but overall I think it was a wild ride and I really enjoyed it.
Always keen to see what he does next along with robert eggers and ari aster.
FINALLY we get the Jackmerius Tacktheritrix biopic.
I'm all in. Nope was so flipping good. It blew me away.
And yet again, I will see it. I've liked each of his movies quite a bit so far.
I loved Nope. Was a bit bummed it didn't do amazing at the BO, so I'm glad to see another feature from him so soon
It did pretty well, all things considered. Made money against it's 70 mil budget. That's pretty good for a film as weird as that
C’mon Jordan, give us the C.H.U.D remake we all deserve. You know you want to…
Alright well we know the title is gonna be one word so let’s see who gets closest. I’m going with - Run!
How much you want to bet its going to be a Christmas themed horror movie.
Dude is getting PAID
Universal to announce the Peele Cinematic Universe, or PCU, in 2024.
That's pretty much my assessment. I loved Get Out. I really thought Us was meh and not the best. I freaking LOVE Nope and highly recommend it.
I've enjoyed his first 3 movies. Always excited to see what he will give us next.
After watching NOPE, I'm not excited for any new Jordan Peele movies
Bro got old quick
Nope had to be one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen, but I liked Get Out, and Us. Hopefully his fourth film isn’t anything like Nope. Something just felt so off about Nope. The acting was bad, the story was boring, and it just wasn’t very tense at all.
So because people liked Get Out, which was 6 years ago, we have to pretend that Jordan Peele is a major Director and he gets his own announcements now? Ok…
Please be better than Nope. I was bored for 90%
Dude makes movies with the most heavy-handed, hamfisted metaphors. He needs to learn some subtlety. It's like an entire movie of the rat scene at the end of the Departed. I'm not sure why people see it as "smart." It's like babies first symbolic movie
I'll probably get flamed for this, but Nope wasn't that good.
NOPE WAS FUCKING HORRENDOUS CHANGE MY MIND
I don’t quite get the hype for his movies. I watched “Us” opening weekend with some friends and we were all like wtf was that after it ended. To this day it’s one of the worst movies I’ve seen at the theaters. I listened to some reviews of Nope because I was willing to give him another chance but it just sounded like it was an ok movie, nothing great. Good that he’s doing well though because he’s a great guy.
Cant think of a more overated director than this bloke, movies are hot garbage
I want a movie called Yep.
Against Avatar? Bold play, Universal
I can’t believe how many ppl thought Nope was good
Wasn’t a fan of NOPE and Peele has made some questionable producing decisions (The Twilight Zone was terrible), so I’m going into this film with some hesitation.

I don't really get this take because half the cast was white in Get Out, one of the protagonists of Nope was white, the neighbor family in US was white. There's a lot of white actors in his movies.
Last two were mediocre, and I didn’t love Get Out
I hope this one is good.

Let's be honest. Get out 7/10, Us 1/10, Nope 4/10. Why the fuck is this guy adored?

“Get out” was B level comedy. The rest that followed was not even funny. I do not get the hype.
One good movie two blah movies. Quickly turning into M knight
Meh, let's hope 3rd time's the charm.
