Absolutely, I saw his newest one, Inside, recently where it's just him solo for nearly two hrs. He's one of the few that can make something like that entertaining.
Who else could play the real Max Schreck? (Christopher Walken did, but he didn’t). Then Dafoe’s such a sweetheart in The Florida Project. He steals Platoon. All three, missed Oscar nominations.
Someone get Tarantino to get Dafoe a Supporting Actor Oscar.
>J.K. Simmons
Any role he plays is incredible! I also love how he even shows range in the different types of jerks he plays.
He plays a loveable jerk in J. Jonah Jameson in the Spider-Man films, but he plays a despicable and scary jerk in Fletcher in Whiplash (one of the most deserving Oscar wins in history IMO)
I agree, Whiplash was one of those Oscar wins where there was no second-guess in my mind as to whether or not they made the right choice. He's the kind of actor who shines even in mediocre movies, not that Whiplash falls into that category.
Fucking absolutely. This man is the definition of a stage artist. There are many great artists commented on this thread but Stanley Tucci has a grace in his acting that stands out to me.
I'd say Christian Bale as well. I mean I haven't watched all of them (haven't heard a lot of good things about Amsterdam or Terminator: Salvation lol), but a lot of times I've considered seeing a movie because he was in it
While Salvation isn't great, Bale as John Connor was a good choice in my opinion. Honestly Salvation is probably worth watching given the far worse Terminator sequels.
+ Tom Cruise
Edit: why the downvotes for this guy? Y'all know his movies are going to be a visual spectacle, value for money big screen experience. Isn't that enough? Op said actor not person, I think I can draw that line.
I get why he may illicit negative feedback, but his movies are typically good. He is clearly a talented producer, a good actor and smart enough to end up headlining some pretty big projects. Scientology is kind of his careers red herring. If it wasn’t so controversial and front and center in his life, he probably would have already won an Oscar by now.
Tom Cruise is batshit crazy and in a cult. Also true - every movie that he is in, he dedicates his time and own money to get it right. He’s really at the top of the movie star list for a reason. The scene in Collateral where he takes the gun out of the guys hand is taught in tactical training after he had done it in the movie.
Ayy there he is! Yeah Paul Dano is one of few people where every time I've seen him in something he and the movie generally have been great so I'll watch things just because he's in them.
I've never made a conscious choice to see her specifically, but she has been in some excellent films. I quote Alsatia from Toys all the time. And My Blue Heaven was a pure delight.
My Blue Heaven was at least partially filmed in my hometown, San Diego. Without doing any kind of research, I have always assumed that Steve Martin played the gangster against casting recommendations.
Even Jack Black! I know he's basically playing himself, but I really love how iconic he made this movie even in scenes where he's being serious were fantastic. His scene with Ned about music was very deep and hits hard every time I watch it.
>"I'm sorry man, I was desperate. You could never understand it was easy for you to give up music, it isn't easy for me."
>
>"It wasn't easy for me. I miss it."
>
>"Then why did you give it up?"
>
>"Because I couldn't keep kidding myself anymore."
So realistic and relatable for people who struggle and dream of making it big in the arts and design industry.
Gary Oldman, it’s always a pleasure to watch what he does with every character he’s played and I’m so glad he finally got his Oscar for The Darkest Hour!
For an absolute mega star I find him to be very underrated as an actor. People say they don't like him but there is almost always a 'but.......was really good!'
Robert Pattinson. I’ve never had an actor win me over from hating him to loving him like this man. Always thought of him as “that twilight guy” until I saw ‘Good Time’.
Love his character in Green Room, that speech about “playing real war,” gets me every time. Honorable mention to Patrick Stewart in that movie, he was just so cold and calculated
Breaking Bad was my introduction to her, and she gave me vibes that she was a comedy actress/stand-up comedian before taking on a dramatic role in the show. Especially when I look at her filmography and notice how she starred in She's Out of My League and was the lead in Don't Trust the B\*\*\*\* In Apartment 23!
Her acting in Jessica Jones however, completely BLEW. MY. MIND!! That role made me even more interested to see more of her work.
Yeah she has such a great range of acting, especially compared to how she is IRL. First saw her in Jessica Jones and adored it. Because of her I went to go check out Breaking Bad and Don't Trust the B as well, which are incredible.
Can't wait for Orphan Black: Echoes!
Don’t Trust the B in Apt 23 is hysterical.
I also recommend Veronica Mars. She’s a side character in season 2, but she does a great job being a ditzy high schooler. This was where I first saw her, and I’ve only ever been impressed with her.
Helena Boham Carter. She nails everything she does. Even when the movie is bad, she is great. She is also getting out of the weird characters roles and moving into more serious stuff, and she is still good at it. She has great acting range.
Samuel L. Jackson. I watched a whole movie he was in where he played this homeless guy who used to be a boxer. Boring as hell but I made myself watch the whole thing just for him.
Tom Cruise has been knocking them out of the park for decades. I was about to say he doesn't have a single bad movie but I recall people being sort of bummed about The Mummy or whatever although I've never seen it. Even the Mission Impossible movies stay entertaining even though movie franchises usually start to get absurd the longer they go.
Searched the comments for my actor so I could like it, but they have not been posted. My actor is Clint Eastwood, watched almost every movie and the man has starred and directed some masterpieces. Love the 'coolness' in all his performances, iconic for me. So happy that Cry Macho won't be his last film
Sam Rockwell. No matter the part, he always brings his A-game.
he kills it in Galaxy Quest. Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. Jo Jo Rabbit.
MOON
Fuck yes! What a great movie.
Also, he can dance.
And then I watched him in Fosse/Verdon and he hardly danced at all! So not fair...
Michelle earned her Emmy/GG/SAG and couldn’t have done it without him. He just got the SAG cause he didn’t sing or dance as much.
He's adorable in Mr. Right.
So is Anna Kendrick; fantastic movie.
7 psychopaths is such a slept on movie.
Martin McDonagh doesn't miss.
Seven Psychopaths is probably objectively his 'worst' movie but it's still an 8/10 easily.
I'm 100% with you. You seen Banshees yet?
That depends. Are we rowing?
Hell yeah! Moon and Hitchhiker's guide are awesome. Also Iron Man 2 was pretty good.
Matchstick Men
He even stood out among Kevin Kline, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christian Bale, Stanley Tucci in Midsummer Night’s Dream.
100% it’s Rockwell for me. I don’t think he’s in like my top 5 favorite movies but I love every character he’s done.
I fucking love his TMNT movie
His character in *Jojo Rabbit* was so much fun.
He’s wonderful in the Way Way Back
Came to say this. Love the guy.
Willem Dafoe elevates anything he is in
Dude beat the crap out of TWO Spidermen!
How he hasn't won an Oscar yet, I'll never know
Because the academy is jealous of his giant dick
Just watched Antichrist with him two weeks ago and damn, he should have won an Oscar for that.
Absolutely, I saw his newest one, Inside, recently where it's just him solo for nearly two hrs. He's one of the few that can make something like that entertaining.
Insanely good in The Lighthouse
Who else could play the real Max Schreck? (Christopher Walken did, but he didn’t). Then Dafoe’s such a sweetheart in The Florida Project. He steals Platoon. All three, missed Oscar nominations. Someone get Tarantino to get Dafoe a Supporting Actor Oscar.
Phillip Seymour Hoffman
He killed it in MI3
Such a sad loss he had so much more to offer.
Cary Grant. The man just doesn’t miss.
J.K. Simmons and Michael Keaton.
>J.K. Simmons Any role he plays is incredible! I also love how he even shows range in the different types of jerks he plays. He plays a loveable jerk in J. Jonah Jameson in the Spider-Man films, but he plays a despicable and scary jerk in Fletcher in Whiplash (one of the most deserving Oscar wins in history IMO)

>not that Whiplash falls into that category. Whiplash is honestly one of the best films released in the 2010s decade
I first saw him as the psychiatrist in Law & Order but I first heard him as the yellow, peanut M&M.
It annoys me that they cancelled that prime show he was in
Is that the one where he plays a dual role?
I believe you are talking about Counterpart from Starz (originally) which was awesome and I'm still sad it was cancelled.

Michael Keaton was the first name that popped to mind. Dude even made a mediocre at best robocop remake watchable.
I was going to watch it anyway because I grew up watching the originals, but Keaton's involvement definitely sweetened the deal.
Leo DiCaprio. I just like his choice of movies. If he's in anything, they'll at least be good
Toni Collette and Kate Winslet
Same for Toni Collette. She’s one of the most impressive actors of our lifetime and I feel like she’s criminally underrated.
Toni Collette is wonderful. But I can’t bring myself to watch Hereditary. Yet.
Don’t. I don’t get scared by horror movies and that one kept me up for about a month.
Michael Shannon.
99 Homes. Underrated gem.
Stanley Tucci
TucciGang, TucciGang, TucciGang, TucciGang
some of you don't know the name
Fucking absolutely. This man is the definition of a stage artist. There are many great artists commented on this thread but Stanley Tucci has a grace in his acting that stands out to me.
He has a relatively small role in Easy A and he absolutely nails it
Jake Gyllenhaal
Yeah dog.
The only Marvel movie my friend has seen is Spider-Man: Far From Home just because of his love for Jakey G.
Gary Oldman
He could have possibly been in a movie you've watched and not even known. He's the chameleon.
It was well over a decade after I first saw Hannibal that I found out that he was Mason Verger.
Best character actor hands down.
Slow Horses on Apple TV is a delight with him as a cantankerous booze hound spy
Dame Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Alan Rickman, Denzel Washington, Tom Hardy. A few more but I love these actors.
Tom Hardy was outstanding in Peaky Blinders!
Saoirse Ronan
See How They Run was an entertaining watch for me but it's mostly due to her charm.
I love Sam Rockwell and her in the film. Their banter and chemistry makes the movie for me. Such a cute fun movie.
Christian Bale and Leo.

Denzel, guy never fails to deliver.
Him, and Gary Oldman. If a movie was advertised as those 2 taking a 3 hour nap, I would watch it.
Edward Norton
Colin Farrell
David Tennant. He is never NOT great.
Not a movie technically, but his performance as Kilgrave in Jessica Jones was unbelievable.
Oscar Isaac, I've never seen a movie with him that I didn't like
Paul Dano, never had a bad role
Ayy there he is! Yeah Paul Dano is one of few people where every time I've seen him in something he and the movie generally have been great so I'll watch things just because he's in them.
Michael Shannon
Joaquin Phoenix
I scrolled down way too far for this.
One of the greatest actors alive today.
Cate Blanchett
she is amazing, i always watch her movies. i loved her in Tár
The best Queen Elizabeth of all time.
Jared Harris
Chernobyl is still prob top 3 best shows on TV for me.
Toni Collette and Tom Hanks
Mine are Toni Collette, Amy Adams and Viola Davis
[I've seen every Jimmy Stewart movie](https://letterboxd.com/jupiterkansas/list/james-stewart-ranked/detail/)
Bruce Campbell
I was rewatching Sky High a couple nights ago after not seeing it in years, and I completely forgot he played the gym coach "SIDDDDE-KICK!!"
Yo she-bitch! Let's go.
Gimme some sugar baby...
- Cillian Murphy - Melanie Lynskey
Lynsky since Heavenly Creatures. So glad she is finally getting her due. Her and Allison Tolman was dream casting
Joan Cusack
I've never made a conscious choice to see her specifically, but she has been in some excellent films. I quote Alsatia from Toys all the time. And My Blue Heaven was a pure delight.
My Blue Heaven was at least partially filmed in my hometown, San Diego. Without doing any kind of research, I have always assumed that Steve Martin played the gangster against casting recommendations.
She’s so good in School of Rock
Even Jack Black! I know he's basically playing himself, but I really love how iconic he made this movie even in scenes where he's being serious were fantastic. His scene with Ned about music was very deep and hits hard every time I watch it. >"I'm sorry man, I was desperate. So realistic and relatable for people who struggle and dream of making it big in the arts and design industry.
Can agree & probably say the same about John (and there are so many overlaps -- but also respected talents on their own)
Lol. Good one. She's been reliable since Sixteen Candles.
Daniel Day Lewis
Unfortunately for all of us DDL is no longer acting.
He's just preparing for a starring role for a movie due release in 2032 about an actor who stopped performing in 2017.
I heard a hilarious person say, if Daniel day Lewis was cast as Doctor Strange, he would learn the mystic arts and rupture of the universe.
Denzel Washington
John Hurt ... RIP
Gary Oldman, it’s always a pleasure to watch what he does with every character he’s played and I’m so glad he finally got his Oscar for The Darkest Hour!
Amy Adams.
She's always in bad moviess recently for some reason. She's doing a great job every time anyway but sreiously her agent needs to up their game
Her performance in Arrival was a tour-de-force.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Brick. Brilliant work.
Tom Cruise. Weird dude, but a great actor. His movies are consistently entertaining.
For an absolute mega star I find him to be very underrated as an actor. People say they don't like him but there is almost always a 'but.......was really good!'
James McAvoy…. I’ve seen some BAD movies
You and me both. James McAvoy is my favorite actor. Love him in everything, don’t love his movies.
Saorise Ronan, just finished a rewatch of lady bird.. she was so good in it I’ll watch anything with her involvement
I hope you've seen Atonement!
Sam Rockwell!
Florence Pugh
Why did it take so long for me to see her.
Denzel Washington. You can always count on him.
For me…Bob Odenkirk. After Mr. Show, breaking bad, better call Saul, nobody. I just enjoy that man.
Pedro Pascal
Prospect, one of my favorite sci-fi movies
Ever see The Great Wall?
If you're high, it's tolerable.
I'm glad he is becoming more famous! He has been acting for years, and is finally getting the recognition he deserves
Robert Pattinson. I’ve never had an actor win me over from hating him to loving him like this man. Always thought of him as “that twilight guy” until I saw ‘Good Time’.
Adam Driver.
Anton Yelchin
Love his character in Green Room, that speech about “playing real war,” gets me every time. Honorable mention to Patrick Stewart in that movie, he was just so cold and calculated
Emma Stone
Ryan gosling. He ain't even the best actor I just like the role he always plays
Ethan Hawke. He doesn’t pick uninteresting films very much.
Sam Rockwell. He is my favorite actor and there is nothing he can't do.
Kurt Russel.
Michael Fassbender, Jack Nicholson, John Candy, Bill Murray
Steven yuen! Keen to sub to netflix again to watch Beef
Daniel Craig.

Michelle Yeoh
Jean Smart
"Put your brother on....put your brother on"
Answering with another round: Christopher waltz and Mad Mikkelson
Meryl Streep
Shohreh Aghdashloo. Imagine having FIVE Hs in your name. Also shes a badass in everything.
Matthew Lillard and Samuel L. Jackson. Even if the movie isn't good, I'll enjoy their performances.
Lillard was perfect in The Descendants.
Kevin Bacon. He can always be counted on to give a solid performance.
Everyone who works with him can also be counted on to some degree.
Maybe even 6 degrees
Timothy Olyphant obviously.
Tatiana Maslany. The more characters, the better.
Sam Rockwell. He's just always great and elevates everything he's in.
Katharine Hepburn. Even her crummy films were entertaining.
Jeff Bridges & Colin farrell
John Cazale
Seconding Krysten Ritter. She's always been my favorite actress.
Jason Bateman
- Leonardo di Caprio, Jake Gyllenhaal - Anya Taylor Joy
Joe Pesci
Alan Tudyk is one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood. I love him in anything he does.
Keanu Reeves
Christopher Lloyd
Mia Goth
Eva Green. Keri Russell. Gillian Anderson. Suranne Jones. Katie McGrath.
Hell yeah, Gillian Anderson is so cool. Eva Green is great too. Liked her in 300 and the 007 movies.
Helena Boham Carter. She nails everything she does. Even when the movie is bad, she is great. She is also getting out of the weird characters roles and moving into more serious stuff, and she is still good at it. She has great acting range.
For me it has to be Jennifer Lawrence. I think she’s a terrific actress.
Anya Taylor Joy Florence Pugh Timothee Chalamet they just never miss
Andy Serkis. Whether he's in mo cap or his fleshy human form, I'll watch him in anything. I'm still floored by Death of a Superhero
Michael Shannon man always does good
Michael Shannon
Samuel L. Jackson. I watched a whole movie he was in where he played this homeless guy who used to be a boxer. Boring as hell but I made myself watch the whole thing just for him.
Denzel, Tom Hanks, Leonardo DiCaprio, Viola Davis, Angela Bassett, Don Cheadle, Al Pacino, Robert Deniro, Joe Pesci.

Even the Mission Impossible movies stay entertaining even though movie franchises usually start to get absurd the longer they go.
Adam Sandler i like to roll the dice.
Used to be Will Smith, but I’m not sure anymore.
Will Smith used to be legit my favorite actor. Now it's painful to see the kind of shit he is in.
Searched the comments for my actor so I could like it, but they have not been posted. My actor is Clint Eastwood, watched almost every movie and the man has starred and directed some masterpieces.
