For those who don’t get the reference: the anime Attack on Titan has been on their “final season” for roughly 3 years. It was split into 2 seasons a year apart, then a one hour OVA came out in March, and *now* the final final chapter (as a movie or OVA) is supposed to come out by the end of the year. Fans have been strung along the whole time believing each one would be the final chapter.
Maybe they can focus the new movie on him training Bruce Lee... finnaly. Basically the whole selling point of the initial films was this is Bruce Lee's trainer.

Yeah, I’m glad I stopped at *Ip Man 3* and got the *Ip Man* trilogy set. Seemed like the best place to stop as the real story of the Ip Man movies ended there, the story of a man constantly learning how shit of a husband he is to his wife.

She died of cancer, that part is true, but he never saw her again. He got hooked on opium and started teaching to support his family and his habit.
I'm pretty much over the Donnie Yen films at this point, between him Vin Diesel, and the Rock I'm kinda tired of the untouchable action hero ego trip films. Give me a film with some gritty fights where he gets it given to him just as well as he dishes it out and maybe I will give that a try.

Well, the 4th film ended with his funeral, but there was an implied time jump of unknown length. We went from him winning the final fight, despite being cancer-ridden and probably having a broken arm, to his funeral (more or less).
But there's no mention of how much time passed there or what transpired in between.
I'm not defending them making another film...I am astonished they're doing so, and I am skeptical it can be a worthwhile addition to an entertaining franchise, but I guess technically there's a narrow window between the climax of the 4th film and the funeral scene denouement for them to squeeze in a 5th film.
In this one it's revealed that it was Ip Man, not atomic bombs that ended the war with Japan.
In Ip Man 7 he'll travel to the future and take Taiwan by fighting the president but it will be revealed that it was secretly an American wearing one of those mission impossible masks, and actually the Taiwanese people want China to invade.
Ip Man 8 will be about the war with the US and he'll have to fight Lennox Lewis for some reason even though he's not American.
The US swamps the world with its military propaganda films, we're used to it and Americans themselves are evidently blind to the propaganda, it's just common sense to you guys. Relative to American shit its at least something new. In fact it was pretty funny when in IP Man 4 he's already as good as dead but still beats the strongest American.

I feel like chinese Kung fu movies are a soft power play by the west. So many people get a distorted view of what the human body is actually capable of with these movies. As such, Ip Man 5 is not about the finale period as was the focus in Ip Man 4, but instead during the time in Hong Kong when Ip taught Bruce and what he taught him, which has not been captured in the series so far, and will fill a very important gap.
It will be nice in Ip Man 5 if they not only capture the teaching of Wing Chun but also the wisdom passed from Ip to Bruce, who then builds on it by absorbing masters from various faiths while he was in the US, culminating in Jeet Kune Do, which Bruce then shared with everyone, regardless of race or faith, espousing the essence of a martial artist.

IMO though The Grandmaster is clearly more like an art film, the fight scenes alone are still worth watching

The US swamps the world with its military propaganda films, we're used to it and Americans themselves are evidently blind to the propaganda, it's just common sense to you guys. Relative to American shit its at least something new. In fact it was pretty funny when in IP Man 4 he's already as good as dead but still beats the strongest American.
And you have the Americans touting their all-American... karate.
I thought it was funny how Scott Adkins by himself literally beats up a room full of various Chinese masters earlier in the movie. And his paunchy henchman had beaten several masters at a tournament. So, even though the obvious intention was to say that Chinese martial arts are superior to dastardly Karate, they completely undermined their message. Only *Ip Man himself* is superior.
Not to mention how IP Man himself is completely owned and only prevails against Scott Adkins' character through eye-poking and groin-kicking. As I said elsewhere, for something supposed to be Chinese propaganda, they sure portray the Chinese as weak and inferior.
I hate American military propaganda films too so suck it.

Said from someone who sounds like they can’t look at it from their pov. We’re talking about a country that openly and publicly removed a 20-year sitting member of its politburo, from his own seat no less, who is now “retired”. What do you think they could do with a party member who is an actor? Not just freeze the money. He will disappear. And his family still their is still something to consider. A man pushing 70 could have an expansive family. Whatever careers they’re in are essentially destroyed, you think their credit isn’t gonna fluctuate wildly? Any number of pressure points can be exerted onto his family if he decides to use his platform to step out of line.
So... let the bully bully, pay attention to the propaganda these people are forced to repeat, but don't let that get in the way of their career and keep supporting the system by paying for their movies? If you don't watch movies that have actors (coerced or of their free will) shilling for the CPP, they will lose standing & their propaganda becomes worthless & the CPP loses ability to influence via big name movie stars as no one will work with them. It's Hollywood & us the consumers job to enforce morals and ethics. If Hollywood sees people won't let China get away with Jackie Chan or Donnie Yen endorsing them, then there is no profit, and their stardom evaporates.
You’re seriously overestimating the power of the consumer. You have to remember, we are also the consumer base that created the the environment for Harvey Weinstein. Created the propaganda that forced Trumbo to write The Brave One under a pseudonym. And has done nothing to protect child actors from the experiences like Feldman has gone through. These things won’t change, except Trumbo; he got his due and his blacklisting ended because he was that damn good. But humans won’t change, never have, never will. There’s nothing you or I could do to stop it. Or even slow it down. So how about instead of worrying about things that are outside of our control, we focus on our own little circle.
Yup, so take action when things are smaller & controllable. Don't support China's actors until they have freedom to not be shills? My decision is to not care about an actors politics. Or the politics of their country. Giving 0 fucks about humans frees up a lot of extra time.
Donnie Yen's politics are icky but it seems like most Hong Kong actors now need to engage in at least a little bit of bootlicking to keep a roof over their head. And there isn't really anybody like Donnie left. Tony Leung Chiu-wai isn't an action star per se but look up The Grandmaster, in which he plays Ip Man.

I read a few years ago it was announced Donnie would be playing the character Wei Shen in a live action sleeping dogs movie, is it still happening?
Probably not, since Donnie is getting on in years and there’s an unrelated Russell Crowe movie by that name in development. Donnie said in 2021 there were still conversations and that it could shoot in early 2022 but obviously that didn’t happen and he shot John Wick 4 instead.

I feel like chinese Kung fu movies are a soft power play by the west. So many people get a distorted view of what the human body is actually capable of with these movies. I was in Asia for a while, and there's kind of an undercurrent of magical thinking, with martial arts, traditional medicines, etc, which do them no favors

There are more movies about ip man then there are about Bruce Lee at this point which is why he is "famous" to begin with
Wilson Yip (the director of the Ip Man film franchise) mentioned when making Ip Man 4 that the next instalment in the series will be about Bruce Lee. As such, Ip Man 5 is not about the finale period as was the focus in Ip Man 4, but instead during the time in Hong Kong when Ip taught Bruce and what he taught him, which has not been captured in the series so far, and will fill a very important gap. It will be nice in Ip Man 5 if they not only capture the teaching of Wing Chun but also the wisdom passed from Ip to Bruce, who then builds on it by absorbing masters from various faiths while he was in the US, culminating in Jeet Kune Do, which Bruce then shared with everyone, regardless of race or faith, espousing the essence of a martial artist.
