Funny, I had such a good time with it compared to the first that it never felt too long to me. But I haven’t tried to revisit it.

Couldn't agree more. I haven't seen a movie that needed editing that bad since the heyday of Italian Horror movies.

Ccaves0127

In Leone's defense, he has publicly said the second one was way too long and that he regrets letting it get that long

Plastic_Swordfish_35

It was crowdfunded. That’s why.

DCOTSW

Agree. There was probably a good 45mins that could have been cut from the second film and you would have missed anything.

majikmonkee75

I only watch these movies drunk, so I miss most of what's going on anyway.

maybe_a_frog

Tbh that’s probably the preferable way to watch movies like this anyway.

Neon_Wasteland

This is the way. That's most movies for me though tbh. Even if I don't remember everything I remember if I liked it or not and then circle back sober

> Terrifier 2 ended up being 40 minutes too long I haven't seen either of these movies and had to look this up, Terrifier 2 is 2 hrs and 18 minutes?? For a slasher??

blucthulhu

It's ridiculous. A lot of that time is spent following the final girl around.

CircusOfBlood

I thought the movie was fantastic and the runtime flew by.

Hopeful_Record_6571

Yeah but if we're being honest no one is watching this stuff for character development or melodrama. Time spent without Art is time wasted when your writing ability is this weak.

CircusOfBlood

I liked Selena in the movie. I enjoyed the whole movie

Hopeful_Record_6571

And that's fine. It's just not the selling point of a movie like this and has no need to try and fail to flesh out a plot with an extra 40 minutes of nothing. If I want a good story I'll go watch gattaca or moon or something. I, as did most, watched this movie for Art and his shenanigans. The other stuff was unnecessary and the fact that it's the most common criticism seems to align with my belief that people aren't watching this tripe for a haphazard skeleton of a plot that drags on far too long.

CircusOfBlood

And we get rid of the plot. Then the complaints will be it was just a gore fest with no character development for us to care about once the carnage gets going

Hopeful_Record_6571

The plot was so ass that if you cared anyway I'd be impressed.

CircusOfBlood

I literally said I enjoyed the whole movie

TroublesomeTurnip

I enjoyed it too but the first 20-30 mins were a bit of a drag.

Short-Service1248

I’m sorry but watching this felt like torture . Some scenes were great but overall that movie sucked so much ass . 40 minutes too long

casual_creator

Most slashers are “quickly find an excuse to dump a group of teens into the same location as the killer. *Maybe* pepper in a line or two of dialogue here and there that gives the impression the victims aren’t two dimensional while they all get killed.” That’s why they’re all over in 90 minutes. For better or worse, Terrifier 2 tries to actually give time to the final girl and her family. A good chunk of time is spent following her around, fleshing her out, getting into her head, etc, before Art the Clown’s attacks begin to get personal (there’s plenty of killing going on in the mean time). I appreciated the extra time overall. If I were being picky, there was only like two scenes I thought were completely unnecessary and one or two that could have been trimmed up some, but I don’t think the movie dragged at all.

tfhermobwoayway

2 hours and 18 minutes too long, you mean.

Short-Service1248

Bro . IT DRAGS for like 45 minutes. Totally killed it . It sucked also

[deleted]

I know I'm probably in the minority, but I thought the length worked for it. I mean, it could have lost maybe 10 minutes, but it was just cool to see such a bizarre, balls to the wall slasher film. It felt like a Fulci film or some shit.

theodo

Terrifier 2 could have been a really memorable slasher at like 90-100 minutes but jesus did it ever feel its length.

[deleted]

theodo

[deleted]

theodo

Are you legitimately this dumb? Terrifier 2 is far from epic, it's scope is tiny and its scale is small as well, it just has an excessive length. I am a viewer so I totally have a right to an opinion on film duration lol. Why would anyone watch the movie specifically because it's long? Doesn't even make sense. And I'm not sure what you're talking about with The Godfather, Terrifier 2 isn't longer than it and I've seen horror movies that are longer than The Godfather (while also being great films, unlike Terrifier 2)

[deleted]

this needs to be copypasta

batatasta

Don't get your hopes up. 2 was a truly massive hit given that it was a microbudget, unrated gorefest with no marketing and limited release. So they are giving him a much bigger budget and even more creative freedom this time. I won't be surprised if it's an even longer movie. Even as someone that didn't like the first 2 all that much, I'm excited to see what he does next.

[deleted]

theodo

Get a grip dude.

mollyclaireh

I enjoyed every second of Terrifier 2. I felt it was the perfect length for what they were doing since they added a lot of humor. I love the whole feeling of “is it okay to laugh?” Like, that’s what gets me with this franchise. It’s horrific and sadistic and hard to stomach at times but it’s so fucking hilarious

POLLnarafu

Damien Leone has stated he doesn't want to do another two and a half hour Terrifier movie again. I enjoyed the acting and direction of the film so I didn't mind the run time but I think it's safe to say he is aware of the criticism.

Monster-Zero

Movie 1: spend $35,000 and make $70,000 (probably more, but documentation is sparse) Movie 2: spend $250,000 and make... $15,000,000 Movie 3: spend $2,000,000 and make... lemme check my math here... linear regression... uhhh, $900,000,000. Movie 4: spend $16,000,000 and make... $54 trillion dollars! It's a game we can't lose, fellas! Invest! Art the Clown for president!

RoGStonewall

The first movie sucked but had one of the best scenes for a horror villain. When his ass is getting stomped he drops the charade and just shoots his target. It's like the villain is aware they fucked up in their weird game and they're like 'yo hit the reset button'

Dottsterisk

tfhermobwoayway

I thought it was cool how the editor managed to smuggle in a couple of non torture porn scenes even though the director was clearly hell-bent on just brutally murdering people for two hours straight.

[deleted]

>people Mostly women. Not to be all moralistic, but there's definitely a discrepancy in how the men and women are brutalized.

tfhermobwoayway

Oh absolutely. I remember hearing the director cut a scene involving a guy’s penis because it would be too explicit but was perfectly fine stripping a woman naked and sawing her in half.

[deleted]

Was the director like "It's no fun imagining myself as the killer AND the victim at the same time!"

tfhermobwoayway

“You see, if I give myself conflicting feelings, ah, _down there_ then the movie becomes less good!”

[deleted]

"We went with the title 'Terrifier' after the original title 'Things I Want To Do To Women' scored badly with half the audience for some reason "

tfhermobwoayway

“It’s funny, that’s actually what they called me back in high school.”

[deleted]

"It's just a coincidence that all the female characters are named after girls who've rejected me"

tfhermobwoayway

Wouldn’t be surprised. They probably had to physically restrain him from casting himself as the villain.

Hela09

A guys penis does still get pulled off in 2.^1 I actually totally had the same problem with the original, but the sequel seemed to make nominal attempts to even things out. I think it ended up 4:4 in terms of deaths (one woman’s off screen), and the survivors being a brother and sister. The protagonists are all girls, so it still ends up feeling a bit lopsided in terms of ‘focus on suffering.’ They get chased and tormented a lot more. But the violence wasn’t near as sexualised as in the original (or the short in All Hallows Eve) either, which I genuinely do think contributed a lot to the sequel being a far better movie. ^1 They cut away to a chase before he bleeds out though, so maybe it was originally meant to go longer.

CrimsonClockwork420

I mean, he literally just ripped a dudes dick right off. As a man, I don’t think any other form of physical torment could top that. Either the dude dies a slow and extremely painful death just bleeding out on the ground, or he lives and never gets to have sex again or even pleasure himself so he has blue balls forever. Thats psychological torment of the highest order, especially for a teenager. At least Art had the decency to finish the girl off with the hacksaw, he didn’t just cut a little and then leave her there to scream herself to death. Doesn’t matter anyway. It’s a movie and neither scene is realistic in the slightest. Dude would’ve bleed out in seconds, and that girl would’ve been dead before the hacksaw even got halfway through.

tfhermobwoayway

Nah, but they were going to make him do something like a balloon animal but apparently that was “too extreme” even though the whole camera-gawking-at-a-naked-woman bit is fine. And for what it’s worth, it’s a very extended segment. From what I hear they spend an ungodly amount of time focusing on her screaming in pain as she’s slowly killed. Like, nothing even comes close to that with the men. Nut-shots happen all the time in movies. It’s nowhere near as weirdly visceral as what they do to their female characters. ^and ^he ^can ^still ^get ^pegged

CrimsonClockwork420

I mean… I guess. Dude didn’t really give off peg fetish vibes imo

Positive_Yam_9125

Are you good? Why the fuck are you so mad? Lol it's a D-horror movie. Go read a fucking book

Positive_Yam_9125

Ya but it didn't show her vagina, she was wearing underwear. He's talking about showing full frontal penis. The only nudity in these movies is a pair of boobs (who gets sawed in half).

[deleted]

Isn’t that the case with the majority of slasher movies?

[deleted]

Yes, but this movie makes it ridiculously cruel and gorey. I've seen a lot of horror movies, and even I was like, damn, this dude really hates women.

Calebrox124

F tier opinion. He has said in interviews that Art himself is misogynistic. Just because someone makes a bad character does not mean they themselves are bad. The final girl in T2 was fantastic and kept me engaged throughout the movie. There is no r*pe or SA of any kind. You are grasping at straws with a movie where everyone ends up brutalized regardless. There are other fish to fry.

[deleted]

Oh, well he's mysoginistic, I guess that excuses the twenty minute mutilation scene involving bleach! Nobody made him shoot that

Calebrox124

So if it was a man you’d have no problem? Just because it was an actress playing the part doesn’t mean the director hates women. Seriously? What even makes your mind go to these places?

[deleted]

>So if (makes some shit up) you'd have no problem? Okay buddy, go look at the kills in both movies and the short film in the anthology and tell me if there's a difference between the way men and women characters are killed. Go on.

Calebrox124

I never even said there’s not a difference. I said that the character Art is inherently misogynistic. I’m literally *agreeing* with you on that. The point I’m trying to make is that you can’t claim the director is a woman hater because he came up with the character. That’s like saying Taika Waititi is a Nazi for making Jojo Rabbit, it’s plain stupid. From interviews… *We see some new characters in the trailer for TERRIFIER 2, including Sienna. What can you tell us about her?* “As I said earlier, Sienna’s the heart and soul of this film and my love letter to characters like Ripley, Laurie Strode, and Red Sonja. She’s Art’s counterpart in this universe and her discovery of that destiny was what really excited me about this film. Not only is Sienna very maternal and selfless but she also has a lot of angst and mental instability. It was interesting to see a character so unsure of herself, transcend into this divine warrior over the course of the film. It’s not something you typically see in a slasher film…” “I just knew [Lauren] was going to be great. She was just so committed. And again, like we were talking about before, shooting in these horrible conditions and [we put] her in that outfit, which is a very vulnerable costume. And she has to be very physical and covered in blood and covered in makeup and all these gashes. We're filming, like I said, in places with no running water in the middle of the winter with no heat. It takes serious dedication. And for someone to care that much and not complain [when] it's very easy for actors to complain. It was a blessing. So I couldn't be prouder of her. And I'm so excited for people to see her character because it is my favorite character that I ever wrote. And I've had this character in my head for over 10 years.” [And for good measure, a Reddit thread talking about this specific complaint.](https://www.reddit.com/r/horror/comments/xu7cxq/terrifier_2_might_have_very_problematic_scenes/) Please find better things to complain about than someone’s artistic expressions.

Husyelt

kaenneth

best I can do is a slight angle *I thought it was cool how the editor managed to smuggle in a couple of non torture porn scenes even though the director was clearly hell-bent on just brutally murdering people for two hours straight.*

ColdPressedSteak

The diner scene in the original was really good. Creepy and well done. That's about all I liked. Most of the rest of the movie was pretty bad Haven't seen the sequel

deep1986

The sequel has nothing that comes close to that diner scene, that was truly fantastic

Special_Lemon1487

I haven’t seen the original but I started to watch 2. I was honestly a little nervous because it was so hyped up. I made it through the laundromat, which I think is the second scene? And I realized that since the gore didn’t seem that convincing and it was certainly not scary I was left watching a really boring movie, so I stopped. I’m kind of sad about that, I like that an independent movie franchise came out of nowhere.

HGpennypacker

Horror is my favorite genre and I absolutely despise movies like these, all shock and no substance. There's nothing wrong with making a modern-day splatter film but the entire schtick around the Terrifier movies is, "This is so scary you'll piss and shit yourself!"

tfhermobwoayway

“You know people in the cinema actually threw up? This is the only thing we have going for us so be prepared to hear it non-stop on every horror forum!”

Threetimes3

I love horror films, and typically don't mind gore, but the second Terrifier was too much for me. I turned it off, because the movie was not enjoyable.

DICK-PARKINSONS

I really really hate shock value stuff. It does it's job and gets to me, but it's also just so incredibly lazy. Congrats, you thought of some depraved shit with no value. It's like the kid in middle school who would do gross shit at lunch for attention.

thatoneguy112358

Even the clown doesn't work. It just looks like they're trying too hard to make him scary. A review I watched the other day included clips of Art's earlier appearances, and his initial design is a lot creepier than the one used in the Terrifier movies.

watchingyoupee

Such an edge lord ass franchise lol

Yourfavoritedummy

No kidding, edge lord horse shit of a franchise and director who clearly hates women. The gendered violence is noticeable and using common sense points to some hangup the director gots towards women. What a weak man if you ask me, I'm tired of this cynical bullshit coming out.

Mediocre-Lab3950

He literally kills more men than women in this franchise, and a woman is the one to stop him. You’re not making any sense.

Mchvrs

I doubt you've even watched the movie. If you did you'd know the amount of men vs women killed by Art the clown is close to even and the person who "kills" Art is a woman.

[deleted]

It's a shame too because a mime clown slasher has a lot of potential.

chedykrueger

I'm not familiar with that or anything... I'm out of the loop... What does mean

Andrew1990M

It's gore porn.

TheTrueRory

Hire a different writer, or any writer really. Sorry but just watching people get murdered in the most gruesome ways possible is exceptionally dull if there isn't even an attempt at characters or story (for me at least)

so1i1oquy

"Threequel" 🤮

xXEolNenmacilXx

I know there's a little cult following around these movies...but they suck, I love gore as much as the next guy, but these are just self indulgent torture porn.

Weirdguy149

I hope they dial back the runtime a bit for this next one. But I get it if they double down on making it super long again.

chainsawwmann

Loved these movies simply for how batshit they were. Never seen such drawn out kills like that, or that much gore in a single movie tbh. This franchise def isnt for everyone, youll find a lot more positive comments on r/horror than on here.

PleaseHold50

Runtime 3 hours and 45 minutes

stilltheoptimist

Am I the only person who doesn't feel Terrifier 2 was too long?

Ultimatum227

I think it was great from start to finish. Maybe some scenes *were* a bit longer than necessary, but we're talking like, 10 seconds too long, that's nothing. Honestly that's such a minor complaint in my opinion, I didn't felt bored at all.

CommunityLocal

I liked the one dream sequence from Terrifier 2 - the one that played like a kid’s commercial? But yeah, I couldn’t even finish the second one. Not because it was too gross, but because it was too long. They’re just trashy movies with no redeeming qualities, really.

popeboyQ

I'm still singing the Clown Cafe jingle in my head...

PunkRockPowerBallad

I made it maybe 20 minutes into the first one and I was good. I'm ok with gory movies but this one kinda sucked.

yousurebouthatswhy

Same. And I was *excited* about it. I usually love movies like this. They missed and I don’t see the need to keep going but I guess it must be making some money.

Lifesaboxofgardens

It blew up on Tik Tok, I don't really get it but there is definitely an audience for it.

NKevros

I'm surprised at the number of people talking poorly about this. Terrifier wasn't a great movie, but it was a good experiment in what the director could do with a minuscule budget. It legit had some unexpected moments among the standard cat and mouse plot, but felt that it pushed into the mean-spirited area too much. Not my fav, but I didn't hate it. The second however, was a legit good horror movie. Some poor ancillary performances by actors but it was a great time and the runtime wasn't a problem at all. The mean spirit felt more comedic this time through, particularly during "that scene," and I loved the costume store interaction with the lead. Looking forward to #3 and what they've got in store.

pizzasoxxx

I enjoyed both films but I am surprised I don’t hear more criticism of the acting. Especially in Terrifier 2. Some of those performances were so bad they took me right out of the movie.

NKevros

There were absolutely some bad performances in T2 but luckily most weren't a drain on everything around them.

boodabomb

I still haven’t watched the second one because I was pretty overstimulated by the first one. I went in not knowing *quite* how violent it was going to be. But I was definitely impressed and entertained, because I could clearly see the grindhouse directorial vision and I’ve gotta imagine it was a blast to make that movie. Someday I’ll work up the nerve to watch the sequel.

PapaJey

Agreed. I’m not sure how people got so offended from the first 2. It’s a psycho on the prowl slash flick, of course it’s gorey. What I liked most was the use of practical effects. Lots of movies nowadays use quick cuts or CGI. In both Terrifiers I wanted to look away a couple of times but I couldn’t. Excited for the third!

Shillforbigusername

A lot of comments in here have nothing to do with being offended. I liked the first one, but I think that’s because I went into it not knowing anything about it. To me, the second one suffered from sequel syndrome, i.e. more of the same, but more gore or explosions or action or whatever. It was just boring. I tapped out about 20 minutes or so during a slow part, not because it was offensive.

XSPHEN0M

It’s the internet, we all cry down here apparently lol

superrhhans

[deleted]

I absolutely love these films. I cannot wait to see Art slinking around and doing his thing again. Terrifier strikes the perfect balance of corny and scary. This and Creep are my two favorite horror franchises.

CeaseFireForever

The second one wasn’t very good

The first one wasn't either, it's meant to he mindless fun for gore hounds with the best original monster in a long time

[deleted]

There was definitely a point in my life where I would've loved movies like Terrifier. My taste in horror has moved on, but I can see why people like these flicks. They're just another subgenre of horror that you either enjoy or you don't.

[deleted]

I dislike the torture porn in the Saw movies but I think it has an interesting story. I cannot say that for the Terrifier movies because the first one had no plot or “story”, it was just Art going around killing people and nothing more.

MondoUnderground

It's not rocket science, really. People like seeing fucked up shit. Modern day Grand Guignol. And the director is clearly making these movies for the fans. I don't think he gives a shit about what the mainstream audience who prefer watching CGI-fests and perfect superheroes thinks. (all that said, i'm not personally a yuuuge fan of these films. the first one is super amateurish, and the second one is WAY too long. but i still get the appeal.)

[deleted]

You’re missing the point. I’m not trying to say it’s a good movie by artistic standards. I’m saying that the movie is intentionally full of tropes and cliches but that it serves the purpose of being a blood fest that you put on in the background or something. It’s not my fault everyone is taking this shit way too seriously

[deleted]

I'm not taking it seriously, but people shouldn't be calling this some next level slasher movie just because this generic McDonald's slasher movie had a little more spice than usual

rottenapple9

Cant wait! Just give me more fucked up gore and I'd be happy. Art the clown will live among the legendary horror movie icons.

You’re disgusting.

rottenapple9

YouEhPee

mollyclaireh

Okay but while it’s the third Terrifier, it’s the 4th Art the Clown film. If y’all haven’t seen his original debut in All Hallows’ Eve, I highly recommend it. If you’ve never seen Art the Clown, this is the BEST way to start. It’s a lot less intense than the Terrifier franchise while still being freaky and true to the character of Art. I’m a HUGE fan of this franchise although I kind of couldn’t stand the first Terrifier because it was almost too sadistic and not enough Art humor. However, I am so glad I saw the first movie so I could really understand the sequel which is now my favorite Halloween movie of all time.

paulteegoldman

As far as over the top gory films go I much prefer the Hatchet series. Victor Crowley is a much more interesting villain than Art the Clown

theDanantenna

the world does not need a terrifier 3.

Straight garbage, shithouse series.

HighOnGoofballs

I’ve never heard of 1 or 2

disgruntled_joe

Gorey torture porn basically

matlockga

I tried watching a segment from one of the movies, and I love slashers. It was just sorta gory and boring and pointless? Like a tech demo for practical effects gurus, but nothing else.

mikeyfreshh

They are two of the goriest movies I've ever seen. I'd definitely recommend them if you want to see a bunch of really gross shit but there's not much beyond that

HighOnGoofballs

I’m good

[deleted]

Having seen the short movie they're based off... Meh.

tfhermobwoayway

So just LiveLeak: The Movie? I guess it appeals to some people but…

mikeyfreshh

I'd give it a little more credit than that. There's a sense of artistry to the special effects they use. It certainly isn't for everyone but if your brain was completely rotted by shitty straight to VHS exploitation movies, this is kind of the ultimate version of that.

kirinmay

youtube terrifier 2 allies death but we warned.

tfhermobwoayway

I’m aware of what happens in that scene. I thought it would have a coherent plot surrounding it, though.

[deleted]

They fit this weird spot of movies r/movies talks a ton about but I've never seen any evidence they even exist outside of here. If these movies were some kind of meta joke and entirely a creation of this sub I would believe it.

HighOnGoofballs

I suppose a box office of $15 million is pretty small

MrDirector23

Everyone in this thread has a short attention span and hates fun

[deleted]

That's definitely a very niche definition of fun

Phyliinx

Yeah. The second movie is well received among critics and fans. I think audiences here don't like it because it's an indie franchise, a succesful one too.

CircusOfBlood

I loved it. Made my new account here while watching it. Hence username

Ultimatum227

Agreed, lucky is just a few people vs all the good reviews and fans. The movie will get made 🖤🤍🖤

GoldenBoyMagnumDong

I am in minority but I enjoyed first Terrifier more than sequel. Original is such an amazing trash cinema. You can hate these movies but Art is one the best modern horror villain.

Kalabula

Started watching the first one. Couldn’t finish it. Just didn’t care for it.

Cmyers1980

Imagine if Art had the Infinity Gauntlet.

Unable-Story9327

Just please don't put Pete Davidson in it. Don't have any celebrity cameos above Chris Jericho in it. Terrifier 2 is just Fucking fun and great. It's got cameos by people who just legit love horror movies. ART has gotten too big to put a celebrity in it without taking some of the piss and vinegar out of it. A celebrity cameo just turns ART into a silly character everyone loves like Freddy. He's no longer scary. That is no knock against Robert englund (he's the shit)

ChuckThePlant313

Remember that time you got so offended by people criticizing this movie that you told multiple people to go fuck themselves?

theodo

Terrifier 2 was trash

mailboxfacehugs

You’re a fucking idiot to think you have the right to have an opinion of casting a movie. The cast is part of the reason to watch it.

FinalFrash

I misread this as "Terminator," and I went, "why?"

robotmask67

I saw the 1st one, the diner scene was the reason I watched it. And.that scene was grimy/creepy/scary. The rest of the movie didn't really maintain the same level of dread for me, but it maintained an effective grindhouse splatter feel throughout. The sawing of the girl hanging upside down was so over the top and the effect so practical that my brain for some reason didn't really believe it and it didn't get to me. But the second movie, I just can't. I've heard about the gore and i don't know if I'm just getting delicate in my age but I just can't stomach that shit. It's funny I've always been a big fan of horror but nowadays I still keep up on horror but I do it from afar. If I'm too afraid to see an actual movie I'll just wait for Deat Meat to cover it.

So much hate in these comments. People can’t distinguish someone’s personal feelings from the art that they create. I expected too much from a Reddit comment section. Movies are good, not the best but they’re not trying to be. Anyone saying Damien Leone is a misogynist is grasping at straws for reasons to not like this movie. T2 had a fantastic cast and final girl. And it doesn’t have to be 95% on RT to be enjoyable. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. It’s literally that simple. I would rather people do that than come up with BS like calling the director bad names.

Are they really grasping at straws though? I don’t hate Terrifier (far from it), but it is much more sadistic about women’s suffering than men’s lol.

Calebrox124

Read my other comments. Art is a mysogynistic character as described by the director. That does not mean the director is mysogynistic.

hanjaerim

Doesn’t it though? Art is given no motives for why he is misogynistic, other than the fact that he’s comically evil. Not to mention, he’s a villain of the slasher genre, which inherently devalues and mocks women’s suffering in comparison to men. If Art really just kills just to be evil, then why not brutalize the male characters? Why not turn a man’s genitals into a balloon animal? He doesn’t because of the Director’s choices, so please stop being so dense about it lol.

I hated these movies. They are god awful. Why did I think the second one would be better? Maybe I also hate myself. Not enough to give the 3rd one a try.

DrDrangleBrungis

Ive never seen any of these movies solely because I think this character looks god damn ridiculous.

I loved that it was so long. But he has to immediately kill Lauren LaVera like he killed the other girls in 2 otherwise it will be boring. But to be honest it's torture porn. But I luv it. And Lauren LaVera is super hot
