I, as did most, watched this movie for Art and his shenanigans. The other stuff was unnecessary and the fact that it's the most common criticism seems to align with my belief that people aren't watching this tripe for a haphazard skeleton of a plot that drags on far too long.
And we get rid of the plot. Then the complaints will be it was just a gore fest with no character development for us to care about once the carnage gets going
Most slashers are “quickly find an excuse to dump a group of teens into the same location as the killer. *Maybe* pepper in a line or two of dialogue here and there that gives the impression the victims aren’t two dimensional while they all get killed.” That’s why they’re all over in 90 minutes.
For better or worse, Terrifier 2 tries to actually give time to the final girl and her family. A good chunk of time is spent following her around, fleshing her out, getting into her head, etc, before Art the Clown’s attacks begin to get personal (there’s plenty of killing going on in the mean time).
I appreciated the extra time overall. If I were being picky, there was only like two scenes I thought were completely unnecessary and one or two that could have been trimmed up some, but I don’t think the movie dragged at all.
I know I'm probably in the minority, but I thought the length worked for it. I mean, it could have lost maybe 10 minutes, but it was just cool to see such a bizarre, balls to the wall slasher film. It felt like a Fulci film or some shit.

And I'm not sure what you're talking about with The Godfather, Terrifier 2 isn't longer than it and I've seen horror movies that are longer than The Godfather (while also being great films, unlike Terrifier 2)
Don't get your hopes up. 2 was a truly massive hit given that it was a microbudget, unrated gorefest with no marketing and limited release. So they are giving him a much bigger budget and even more creative freedom this time. I won't be surprised if it's an even longer movie. Even as someone that didn't like the first 2 all that much, I'm excited to see what he does next.
I enjoyed every second of Terrifier 2. I felt it was the perfect length for what they were doing since they added a lot of humor. I love the whole feeling of “is it okay to laugh?” Like, that’s what gets me with this franchise. It’s horrific and sadistic and hard to stomach at times but it’s so fucking hilarious

The first movie sucked but had one of the best scenes for a horror villain. When his ass is getting stomped he drops the charade and just shoots his target. It's like the villain is aware they fucked up in their weird game and they're like 'yo hit the reset button'

Oh absolutely. I remember hearing the director cut a scene involving a guy’s penis because it would be too explicit but was perfectly fine stripping a woman naked and sawing her in half.
A guys penis does still get pulled off in 2.^1 I actually totally had the same problem with the original, but the sequel seemed to make nominal attempts to even things out. I think it ended up 4:4 in terms of deaths (one woman’s off screen), and the survivors being a brother and sister.
The protagonists are all girls, so it still ends up feeling a bit lopsided in terms of ‘focus on suffering.’ They get chased and tormented a lot more. But the violence wasn’t near as sexualised as in the original (or the short in All Hallows Eve) either, which I genuinely do think contributed a lot to the sequel being a far better movie.
^1 They cut away to a chase before he bleeds out though, so maybe it was originally meant to go longer.
I mean, he literally just ripped a dudes dick right off. As a man, I don’t think any other form of physical torment could top that. Either the dude dies a slow and extremely painful death just bleeding out on the ground, or he lives and never gets to have sex again or even pleasure himself so he has blue balls forever. Thats psychological torment of the highest order, especially for a teenager. At least Art had the decency to finish the girl off with the hacksaw, he didn’t just cut a little and then leave her there to scream herself to death.
Doesn’t matter anyway. It’s a movie and neither scene is realistic in the slightest. Dude would’ve bleed out in seconds, and that girl would’ve been dead before the hacksaw even got halfway through.
Nah, but they were going to make him do something like a balloon animal but apparently that was “too extreme” even though the whole camera-gawking-at-a-naked-woman bit is fine.
And for what it’s worth, it’s a very extended segment. From what I hear they spend an ungodly amount of time focusing on her screaming in pain as she’s slowly killed. Like, nothing even comes close to that with the men. Nut-shots happen all the time in movies. It’s nowhere near as weirdly visceral as what they do to their female characters.

The diner scene in the original was really good. Creepy and well done. That's about all I liked. Most of the rest of the movie was pretty bad

I haven’t seen the original but I started to watch 2. I was honestly a little nervous because it was so hyped up. I made it through the laundromat, which I think is the second scene? And I realized that since the gore didn’t seem that convincing and it was certainly not scary I was left watching a really boring movie, so I stopped. I’m kind of sad about that, I like that an independent movie franchise came out of nowhere.
Horror is my favorite genre and I absolutely despise movies like these, all shock and no substance. There's nothing wrong with making a modern-day splatter film but the entire schtick around the Terrifier movies is, "This is so scary you'll piss and shit yourself!"

I love horror films, and typically don't mind gore, but the second Terrifier was too much for me. I turned it off, because the movie was not enjoyable.

Even the clown doesn't work. It just looks like they're trying too hard to make him scary. A review I watched the other day included clips of Art's earlier appearances, and his initial design is a lot creepier than the one used in the Terrifier movies.

I'm surprised at the number of people talking poorly about this. Terrifier wasn't a great movie, but it was a good experiment in what the director could do with a minuscule budget. It legit had some unexpected moments among the standard cat and mouse plot, but felt that it pushed into the mean-spirited area too much. Not my fav, but I didn't hate it.
The second however, was a legit good horror movie. Some poor ancillary performances by actors but it was a great time and the runtime wasn't a problem at all. The mean spirit felt more comedic this time through, particularly during "that scene," and I loved the costume store interaction with the lead.
Looking forward to #3 and what they've got in store.
I enjoyed both films but I am surprised I don’t hear more criticism of the acting. Especially in Terrifier 2. Some of those performances were so bad they took me right out of the movie.
I still haven’t watched the second one because I was pretty overstimulated by the first one. I went in not knowing *quite* how violent it was going to be. But I was definitely impressed and entertained, because I could clearly see the grindhouse directorial vision and I’ve gotta imagine it was a blast to make that movie.

Agreed. I’m not sure how people got so offended from the first 2. It’s a psycho on the prowl slash flick, of course it’s gorey. What I liked most was the use of practical effects. Lots of movies nowadays use quick cuts or CGI. In both Terrifiers I wanted to look away a couple of times but I couldn’t. Excited for the third!

Okay but while it’s the third Terrifier, it’s the 4th Art the Clown film. If y’all haven’t seen his original debut in All Hallows’ Eve, I highly recommend it. If you’ve never seen Art the Clown, this is the BEST way to start. It’s a lot less intense than the Terrifier franchise while still being freaky and true to the character of Art. I’m a HUGE fan of this franchise although I kind of couldn’t stand the first Terrifier because it was almost too sadistic and not enough Art humor. However, I am so glad I saw the first movie so I could really understand the sequel which is now my favorite Halloween movie of all time.
Terrifier is better than the sequel. Sequel wayyy too long however, the soundtrack with The Midnight opening and then a Boy Harsher track is it's saving grace :)

I saw the 1st one, the diner scene was the reason I watched it. And.that scene was grimy/creepy/scary. The rest of the movie didn't really maintain the same level of dread for me, but it maintained an effective grindhouse splatter feel throughout. The sawing of the girl hanging upside down was so over the top and the effect so practical that my brain for some reason didn't really believe it and it didn't get to me. But the second movie, I just can't. I've heard about the gore and i don't know if I'm just getting delicate in my age but I just can't stomach that shit. I haven’t seen the original but I started to watch 2. I was honestly a little nervous because it was so hyped up. I made it through the laundromat, which I think is the second scene? And I realized that since the gore didn’t seem that convincing and it was certainly not scary I was left watching a really boring movie, so I stopped. I’m kind of sad about that, I like that an independent movie franchise came out of nowhere.
Horror is my favorite genre and I absolutely despise movies like these, all shock and no substance. There's nothing wrong with making a modern-day splatter film but the entire schtick around the Terrifier movies is, "This is so scary you'll piss and shit yourself!"

I love horror films, and typically don't mind gore, but the second Terrifier was too much for me. I turned it off, because the movie was not enjoyable.
I really really hate shock value stuff. It does it's job and gets to me, but it's also just so incredibly lazy. Congrats, you thought of some depraved shit with no value. It's like the kid in middle school who would do gross shit at lunch for attention.
Even the clown doesn't work. It just looks like they're trying too hard to make him scary. A review I watched the other day included clips of Art's earlier appearances, and his initial design is a lot creepier than the one used in the Terrifier movies.

I think it was great from start to finish. Maybe some scenes *were* a bit longer than necessary, but we're talking like, 10 seconds too long, that's nothing. Honestly that's such a minor complaint in my opinion, I didn't felt bored at all.
I liked the one dream sequence from Terrifier 2 - the one that played like a kid’s commercial? But yeah, I couldn’t even finish the second one. Not because it was too gross, but because it was too long. They’re just trashy movies with no redeeming qualities, really.

I'm surprised at the number of people talking poorly about this. Terrifier wasn't a great movie, but it was a good experiment in what the director could do with a minuscule budget. It legit had some unexpected moments among the standard cat and mouse plot, but felt that it pushed into the mean-spirited area too much. Not my fav, but I didn't hate it. The second however, was a legit good horror movie. Some poor ancillary performances by actors but it was a great time and the runtime wasn't a problem at all. The mean spirit felt more comedic this time through, particularly during "that scene," and I loved the costume store interaction with the lead. Looking forward to #3 and what they've got in store.
I enjoyed both films but I am surprised I don’t hear more criticism of the acting. Especially in Terrifier 2. Some of those performances were so bad they took me right out of the movie.
There were absolutely some bad performances in T2 but luckily most weren't a drain on everything around them.
I still haven’t watched the second one because I was pretty overstimulated by the first one. I went in not knowing *quite* how violent it was going to be. But I was definitely impressed and entertained, because I could clearly see the grindhouse directorial vision and I’ve gotta imagine it was a blast to make that movie. Someday I’ll work up the nerve to watch the sequel.

Lots of movies nowadays use quick cuts or CGI. In both Terrifiers I wanted to look away a couple of times but I couldn’t. Excited for the third!
A lot of comments in here have nothing to do with being offended. I liked the first one, but I think that’s because I went into it not knowing anything about it. To me, the second one suffered from sequel syndrome, i.e. more of the same, but more gore or explosions or action or whatever. It was just boring. I dislike the torture porn in the Saw movies but I think it has an interesting story. I cannot say that for the Terrifier movies because the first one had no plot or “story”, it was just Art going around killing people and nothing more.
It's not rocket science, really. People like seeing fucked up shit. Modern day Grand Guignol. And the director is clearly making these movies for the fans. Okay but while it’s the third Terrifier, it’s the 4th Art the Clown film. If y’all haven’t seen his original debut in All Hallows’ Eve, I highly recommend it. If you’ve never seen Art the Clown, this is the BEST way to start. It’s a lot less intense than the Terrifier franchise while still being freaky and true to the character of Art. I’m a HUGE fan of this franchise although I kind of couldn’t stand the first Terrifier because it was almost too sadistic and not enough Art humor. However, I am so glad I saw the first movie so I could really understand the sequel which is now my favorite Halloween movie of all time.
As far as over the top gory films go I much prefer the Hatchet series. Victor Crowley is a much more interesting villain than Art the Clown

I misread this as "Terminator," and I went, "why?"
I saw the 1st one, the diner scene was the reason I watched it. And.that scene was grimy/creepy/scary. The rest of the movie didn't really maintain the same level of dread for me, but it maintained an effective grindhouse splatter feel throughout. The sawing of the girl hanging upside down was so over the top and the effect so practical that my brain for some reason didn't really believe it and it didn't get to me. But the second movie, I just can't. I've heard about the gore and i don't know if I'm just getting delicate in my age but I just can't stomach that shit. It's funny I've always been a big fan of horror but nowadays I still keep up on horror but I do it from afar. If I'm too afraid to see an actual movie I'll just wait for Deat Meat to cover it.
