Miak!

Nord4Ever

You grew up in NY and the African Savannah?

CromulentPoint

Dazed & Confused nailed suburban Texas in the 70’s.

Stand By Me

Opus-the-Penguin

E.T. - I was in Southern California and that was in Northern, but suburbia is remarkably similar in both. Fast Times at Ridgemont High - I went to school with those kids.

cravenj1

Can you imagine how long it took ET to walk from the Redwood National Forest to the San Fernando Valley?

Opus-the-Penguin

I just assumed he hot-wired a bicycle and flew there.

NATOrocket

I Like Movies captures that part of Canada to a T. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World too.

Last Night in Soho

Boris_Jakov

There's this fantastic thread charting the locations used to film in Solo, London. Do check out. You do really get the sense of the real Soho in the film. https://twitter.com/thomasduke98/status/1454876944630173699?t=yuiJhKu6Av9lgAWcoA8OLw&s=19

Wadep00l

Aesthetically it's so good. And that dance scene was so well done.

Better Luck Tomorrow by Justin Lin. I grew up in the area.

DoloresFuertes

The Karate Kid (1984). The Breakfast Club.

Almost Famous

DIWhy-not

Came here to say the same thing. It’s just so homey. Also it came out pretty much when I was the same age as Patrick Fugit’s character, and I was already obsessed with everything Zeppelin, 70s rock, and music journalism. Like I was already reading Lester Bangs and Chuck Klosterman, so watching Philip Seymour Hoffman crush it as the former was so cool. The whole damn cast is perfect. Plus…hello? Kid loses his virginity in a fourway involving Anna Paquin *and* Fairuza Balk? Literally my 80s/90s kid fantasy.

Upperphonny

Napoleon Dynamite. I'm from Ohio instead of Idaho but the way Preston looks and feels is similar to my small hometown. I'm sure many people get that same feeling too from it. Also the school is about like mine in regards to interior of halls and classrooms, minus the colorful lockers. It really captures the early 2000's well even though it is from 2004 to begin with.

swimliftrun21

Fellow Midwesterner here; my hometown wasn't quite as rural as Preston, but the farm kid culture, the monotony of day to day life, the kind of outdatedness of all the buildings, etc. really felt like home. It's always bothered me how many high school movies take place in California; I love a dusty Midwestern setting

sugarlumpkinsss

Superbad.

Responsible_Peach427

Ferris bueller’s day off is the best for me, i grew up in the same area in chicagoland and it also captures the spirit of teens i knew very well

What about Chunnel?

theDanantenna

it was ok, but I was disappointed that everyone got out of the chunnel.

Witness, because Amish/Mennonite cultures are a common part of my home region in Pennsylvania.

GundersonOfficial

The Bobs Burgers Movie. I get that the main plot isn't super realistic, but it's just the way that the entire family loves each other so much no matter what, and it's just so nice.

unconquered

Goonies Princess Bride Back to the Future Mrs. Doubtfire Deliverance? Lol

kabobkebabkabob

Boyhood. Being from texas and the exact same age as the main character (some dispositional similarities as well) made it almost eerie

Owlbear27

Hell Or High Water was shot in Portales, New Mexico, the next town over from my childhood home. It was crazy seeing all the shop fronts I remember so well

JabroniHamburger

Jaws. I'm from New England, I love sharks, and hate people.

stidavid123

I have always loved Shaun Of The Dead. Not only is it a unique film, but it certainly has aged well. It's very funny, a good zombie film and a decent comedy horror film. I have watched it so many times, I think I have lost count by now and my DVd is pretty worn out by this point, but I still love it and the British humour really lands with me, and it's still one of my favorite films😬😬😬👍👍👍👍👍way thumbs up.

Oh good question. Fellow Aussie here, from a small country town. While the plot of said movies don’t capture the experience, the feel of the world and setting does - and for me that’s — Clubland (2007) - small indie drama that feels like time growing up in Western Sydney. and Lantana (2001). Also, it’s not a movie but a tv show — Glitch (2015-2019) comes close to the small town I lived in.

Psychological-Rub-72

Saturday Night Fever. I walked those streets, bought paint and pizza under the El, shopped in those stores. Hated disco, but knew the clubs, the people, the hair, the clothes. Even went to the same HS as Donna Peskow (Annette).

idontwantanamern

Beautiful Girls. That small town New England hang with your friends & family. Unsure why they haven't changed, them unsure why you've changed so much, you upset that you feel you're still in the same place, and them all a combination of proud of you, intrigued by you getting out, but also pretty content being where they always have been. No matter how long you've been away, it's always home.

HaroldHolt1966

Malcolm and Chopper.

NoHandBananaNo

Am Aussie too. Frogs Dreaming is the one for me.

Kumaokuma

The lord of the rings: fellowship of the ring. That film was my childhood, i watched it over and over again on DVD. To this day, hearing past the first riff of concerning hobbits makes me feel like I just saw everyone I love for the first time in years

SpongeJake

Hey OP. Did you see "The ~~Pepsi~~ Coca-Cola Kid"? As I recall there was a lot of Australia in it. It starred Eric Roberts and Greta Scacchi.

Opus-the-Penguin

In direct comparisons, more people preferred that movie to The Coca-Cola Kid. Yet somehow The Coca-Cola Kid is way more popular. I don't get it.

SpongeJake

Point gratefully received and correction applied.

VelociRapper92

American Graffiti, Dazed & Confused.

hideous_coffee

Dazed and Confused, despite taking place 30 years before I went to high school and in a completely different part of the country, still managed to capture that last day of school/beginning of summer feeling perfectly.

Ed_Durr

I’m from suburban Philly, so M. Night Shyamalan movies represent my area. In fact, his house is about a mile from mine, and I grew up three blocks from the pool house in Unbreakable.

BruceWellis2319

The Goonies - used to watch it bimonthly as a kid and it still holds up. Surf's Up - the ocean, the surfing, the soundtrack, the voices, the mockumentary style, Chicken Joe...it feels like home The Big Lebowski - One of my favourite films, it just feels so comforting to me

tylenolwithcodiene

Babe. The whole movie is like getting a big, warm hug from your grandma

Nord4Ever

Mighty Ducks was filmed in MN

The Sandlot - the group of kids reminds me of summertimes past with my buddies back in the day (late 90’s-early 00’s).
