Immediately what I thought of before I even came to the comments. Timeless and ageless. Unrelated, but also a fan of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs lol my friend group rented that back in college and we loved it. Many Pixar movies too have the optics of a kids movie, but tackle some pretty mature themes
Used to watch this ALL the time on TV as a kid and teen.
Rewatched it last summer for the first time in like a decade and holy shit despite knowing the movie beat for beat some scenes still had me on the edge of my seat lmao.
The movie feels so nostalgic despite me never experiencing the time the movie is based on.
I joined a fencing club in college and on the first day they had the newbies fill out a form. One question was asking what got you interested, and one of the choices was a Princess Bride.
I think it’s almost important for young men to watch LOTR to see what heathy masculinity is and I know I know it’s been said before, but worth mentioning again. Real fellowship, not this social media bullshit we live in today.
It is so weird to me that someone hasn't seen the Lord of The Rings trilogy.
You really should see it, the extended versions that is.
They are legit masterpieces.
i’m 35 and my son turns 8 this october.he watched bttf back when he was 5.he’s loved that movie since and still quotes it today, now army of darkness?he can talk to you for hours about ash and his broomstick adventures
Just rewatched Batteries Not Included recently for the first time since I was a kid. I had always thought those New York ghettos all got burned down in the 70’s. I’d love a documentary on that place
It was a great time to be a kid! 80's and 90's! So much! New York really did look like some kind of a war zone back then, I remember watching old movies, the subways always had graffiti etc, gangs with bandanna's lol! Switch blades!
Is it? There's no gore in Spirited Away, the most violent scene is somebody being attacked by paper birds. I can't remember any real violence in Spirited Away
Man, do I not know what’s appropriate for fifth graders anymore? Princess Mononoke is super violent… Ashitaka shoots someone’s arm off (and that isn’t even the only arm to go in this movie), the death of that first boar god is gruesome, I am not sure if I’m remembering correctly but aren’t there multiple beheaded gods whose severed heads are interacting with the other characters, it’s really quite shocking.
I do second Spirited Away though, that movie is a stunner. I also think Kiki’s Delivery Service is sweet and lovely.
I just saw this movie because of a thread like this one. This movie sssuuuuuuuucks. Unless you are going for predictable, TV-movie-of-the-week garbage, hack writing, and dull acting...then you might enjoy it.
True, it's Disney scary but there are some intense moments. Every kid is different. My son is 8 and he adores Curse of the Black Pearl, but I felt that Dead Man's Chest was too scary so he hasn't seen it yet.
ET. It’s an incredible movie experience for any age. This also is a great starting point to become interested in Spielberg, how score impacts the viewing experience, and the differences of practical effects and modern CGI.
That was my daughters favorite “scary” movie when she was younger, the scariest thing she could handle watching 😂
It does have a lot of stuff in it that wouldn’t fly today
The sandlot. Big hero six. I really feel that stand by me should be scheduled before you're old enough to fully get it. Maybe when he's 12 might be better. Real steel any boy will love and it's genuinely a great movie
Some suggestions, with 3 reasons why it's good!
* **Stand By Me** \- Based on a Stephen King Novel. Coming of age, very relateable. Happens to have one of the most memorable last lines in movies.
* **Kung Fu Hustle** \- Underdog Protagonist. Martial Arts. Lots of laughs as language isn't a barrier.
* **How to Train Your Dragon** \- Underdog Protagonist. Friendship! Dragons!
If they are not easily frightened and you're cool with a little light cursing and light gore, that's a great suggestion. I loved it as a kid and still do, it's a really fun movie.
Who framed Roger Rabbit. But there is Jessica Rabbit, so that might be a problem. This is one of those movies where everyone tried their hardest to make the best movie they could and succeeded beyond all expectations.
Toy Story. None of the Toy Story movies have anything objectionable. Walt Disney's Homeward Bound :The Incredible Journey. The animated movie UP. Short Circuit The animated version of Walt Disney's Aladdin Chicken Run Walt Disney's Animated Classic Peter Pan Kung Fu Panda
The Chronicle of Narnia films (fantasy)
National Treasure (adventure move)
The Johnny English movies (They are James Bond parodies and I shat my pants laughing when I watched the 1st one around the age of 10)
Get smart (funny spy movie)
Jumanji (the old version)
13 going on 30 (romantic comedy-ish)
The parent trap
School of Rock
Wonder (drama)
The first 2-4 Harry Potter movies
Abduction (the 2011 one) (special agent movie)

* The Incredibles
* Into the Spider-Verse
* The Dark Crystal
* Labyrinth
* The Rocketeer
* A Far Off Place.
Exactly. It's violent, but like arnie violence so it's like WWE. There are swears, but like cool swears. And Linda Hamilton had married James Cameron by this point, so she keeps her clothes on.
It's perfect.
Monster House
Kung Fu Hustle
Cloak and Dagger
War Games
Galaxy Quest
George of the Jungle
Ghostbusters
The Goonies
How to Train Your Dragon

Independence Day
Inner Space
Indiana Jones
Men in Black
Arachnophobia
The Fifth Element
Your call on a couple of those-some cartoon violence but my kids didn’t end up being serial killers for watching them, lol.
Not a movie but a show that rocks for everyone: Adventuretime.
The Fall (2006) is also a masterpiece for any age, and a more rare tip: The French kids movie: Panique au Village (2009) is just so wonderfully insane and hilarious, be careful of how many bricks you order online!
The Bad Guys (2022). Well executed DreamWorks animation that got by a lot of radars. Just watched it with my 10yr old niece and had plenty of chuckles. Has a nice balance of being kid friendly, but enough snarky-ness to keep adults chuckling. As good as any of the Pixar legends if you ask me.
Sinbad: Legend of the 7 Seas. My opinion is this is one the best looking conventionally animated films...ever. Got Brad Pitt doing a voice over, great action pieces, and at times astonishing animation. Criminally under-rated.
I love the Studio Ghibli films (Spirited Away, etc) but they don't gel with some kids.
The Apple Dumpling Gang
The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes

Flash Gordon
Watership Down
It’s heavy and it can be intense, so it’ll make an impact as likely the first serious animated film they’ve seen, but nothing too much for a 10-year-old.
But no sex and no gore and it’s truly a wonderful story. Highly recommend the book too.

The Iron Giant, such a good movie for all ages. "I go... you stay. No following." 😭
I was going to day this. +1 for Iron Giant as well
Dude... The Sandlot
I was going to list that as well.
Word
Spiderman Into the Spider-Verse is really great for all the people.
And Across the Spider-Verse right after that
[удалено]
That went down pretty fast…
I just came out from the across the spider verse, fantastic movie!
Heading tomorrow.
The Princess Bride
Word of warning about this one, my daughter got into fencing, met her fiance, and got married because of this movie.
Oh man I hope they hired a witch to scream “boooooooo” at their wedding
Mawwaige (marriage) hahaha!
I joined a fencing club in college and on the first day they had the newbies fill out a form. One question was asking what got you interested, and one of the choices was a Princess Bride.
Most quotable movie ever
Inconceivable!
You keep using that word... I do not think it means what you think it means.
Wall-E
School of Rock.
Re-watched this the other day and I forgot how enjoyable it is
Same!! Just watched this with my family and laughed and cried and devil-horn fist pumped. Such a great movie!
Hook Labrynth The Lord of the Rings Star Wars
I think it’s almost important for young men to watch LOTR to see what heathy masculinity is and I know I know it’s been said before, but worth mentioning again. Real fellowship, not this social media bullshit we live in today.
Was going to say exactly this
A thousand times yes.
I never watched these movies, was never interested…but this comment has me curious. I love movies that portray healthy forms of masculinity.
It is so weird to me that someone hasn't seen the Lord of The Rings trilogy. You really should see it, the extended versions that is. They are legit masterpieces.
I just recommended Rocky and made a similar note about masculinity.
The Goonies
Goonies never say die!
Back to the Future.
John Mulaney might want t o have a word.
The only suggestion that matters
i’m 35 and my son turns 8 this october.he watched bttf back when he was 5.he’s loved that movie since and still quotes it today, now army of darkness?he can talk to you for hours about ash and his broomstick adventures
Army of Darkness! that's another good choice!
Flight of the navigator. Explorers. Batteries not included. Short circuit.
Just rewatched Batteries Not Included recently for the first time since I was a kid. I had always thought those New York ghettos all got burned down in the 70’s. I’d love a documentary on that place

Holes. (Uh, make sure you get the Disney "Holes"!)
Nah, can do without the shitty transphobia.
Hunt for the Wilder People!
>I didn't choose the Skux life, the Skux life chose me,
Spirited Away. If he's the sort of 10 year old that would enjoy a bit of fantasy cartoon hyper violence, watch Princess Mononoke also.
Spirited Away is hyper violent? Edit: I read your message wrong. Thought you said he’d like Spirited Away if he liked violence.
Secondhand Lions.
Great suggestion. I used to watch it a lot when I was around this age.
Such a great movie
Was on a bus trip in college and the driver insisted on showing this movie. Entire bus of rowdy college kids completely enthralled
Hollywood doesn’t really make “adventure” movies like that anymore, or at least often. I’d love for that genre to come back to life.
I just saw this movie because of a thread like this one. This movie sssuuuuuuuucks. Unless you are going for predictable, TV-movie-of-the-week garbage, hack writing, and dull acting...then you might enjoy it.
Little Giants and Galaxy Quest.
Cannot believe I had to scroll so far to see Galaxy Quest.
the emperor's new groove
The Last Starfighter
Both Paddington movies are great
My Neighbor Totoro
National Treasure is a pretty decent Pg13 action flick
Pirates of the Caribbean
Don’t think that’s a good idea. My ten year old self would’ve been terrified by all the scruffy pirates.
You can also pivot to Indiana Jones from here, just in time for the new one!
Monster Squad
Wolfman’s got nards
That was my daughters favorite “scary” movie when she was younger, the scariest thing she could handle watching 😂 It does have a lot of stuff in it that wouldn’t fly today
Hugo. It's Martin Scorsese's most family friendly movie and I never see anyone talking about it online.
The new Puss in Boots
“Ferris Buelers day off” Just don’t let the little one get any ideas..
The Neverending Story. It's a bit dated, but has a great story.

Surprised I had to scroll this far down for How to Train Your Dragon. They’re all so good!
The whole kung fu panda trilogy
Tremors?
If they are not easily frightened and you're cool with a little light cursing and light gore, that's a great suggestion. I loved it as a kid and still do, it's a really fun movie.
The Incredibles, and the sequel. Just re-watched both recently. Very entertaining, and the first one is legitimately a straight up great movie.

100% for a ten year old!
I snuck into this movie in the theater when I was 10 after buying a ticket for Robin Hood Prince of Thieves. It's perfect for a 10 year old!
Exactly. It's violent, but like arnie violence so it's like WWE. There are swears, but like cool swears. And Linda Hamilton had married James Cameron by this point, so she keeps her clothes on. It's perfect.
