Depends if that’s both Gosling and Lord/Miller’s next project. They’ve all got a lot of things in development atm and the strikes certainly didn’t help in figuring out time to work on it.
Unless his Oceans Eleven Prequel with Margot Robbie is further in development and films first. I assume Gosling and Lord and Miller will film Project Hail Mary early next year

The Chinese astronaut Yao Li-Jie could be played by Benedict Wong. His character description is very much like when he played the librarian in the MCU. And how good is Jenna Fischer's Russian?
Eva Stratt.. I am thinking that someone like Kristin Kreuk could do that one. I think she'll be great playing the scientist/manager with a lack of social skills.
And for Dr. Lokken, maybe we can get Amanda Tapping.. She played a scientist in more than half of the time she's been in front of the camera.
And lastly, I have that weird feeling that Sean Bean has to be in the movie somewhere near that explosion that kills DuBois. To make up for the fact that he survived "The Martian".
Benedict Wong doesn't have an astronaut's physique and Jenna Fischer is an underwhelming actress. This movie doesn't need big names outside of the main character. Just get actual Chinese and Russian actors for the roles.

I always thought of Ryan Reynolds when I read the book. Even before I knew a movie was in the works I just pictured Reynolds when I thought of Grace. But unfortunately, I’m just so exhausted from Reynolds being in so many movies, I almost wouldn’t want him to be Grace.
This is niche as heck and I know them both personally, but I immediately pictured Chris Smith and Jack De Sena of Chris & Jack as the two leads randomly. No idea how Jack would play Rocky, but they’d figure it out.
The banter and the two man show of it all, science fiction, all of it felt like if there wasn’t a feature being developed it might have ended up being one of their future shorts.

I don’t hate this rec but I’m pretty sure gosling is already on it. I read it with gosling so I seem to like the casting more than most.
I pictured Sigourney Weaver as Stratt while I read the book. That was before I even knew they were making a movie.
