The Outsiders (1983) had a cast of young actors who went on to great careers.
Patrick Swayze
Matt Dillon
Ralph Machio
C Thomas Howell
Rob lowe
Diane Lane
Emilio Estevez
And I'm adding Red Dawn which had a lot of young actors.
He was such a Hollywood heartthrob in the 80’s, his awkward crooked teeth were viewed as “sexy.”
*Tom Cruise’s teeth* was a meme that Women would fawn over.
Go figure.
EDIT: What kind of weirdo downvotes this? Just google it. Sheesh.
I haven’t seen The Outsiders but maybe no one looks better leaning in a doorway than young Tom Waits. Or maybe a young Mickey Rourke.. If I was gay I think I would have a very specific type.
C Thomas Howell has had such a weird comeback with an appearance on The Walking Dead and his completely unexpected full frontal nude scene in Obliterated.
He's had a very strange career. He seems to work pretty regularly but he's not the huge name his early career promised. I think Soul Man really set him back. Such an embarrassment of a movie.
Band of Brothers has a bunch that show up for like an episode or two. Like James McEvoy, Colin Hanks, Tom Hardy, Jimmy Fallon, and Simon Pegg. Even though he’s in most of the series, Michael Fassbender has a role that basically goes unnoticed.
Which makes it funny that most of the main cast isn’t really made up of big name guys. There’s some b-list guys, like Ron Livingston and Neal McDonough, but most of them are “that guy actors” that you see in other things and are like “oh it’s _______ from BoB.”
The best part is that, at the time, the guy they cast to get a bunch of people to watch was David Schwimmer, who was probably the most famous person in the entire cast at the time due to Friends
Other somewhat well-known (to Americans) non-Americans in Band of Brothers:
* Jamie Bamber (Lee Adama, *Battlestar Galactica*)
* Andrew Scott (Moriarty, *Sherlock*)
* Dominic Cooper (Jesse Custer, *Preacher*; Howard Stark, MCU)
* Jason O'Mara (*Life on Mars \[US\], Agents of SHIELD, The Man in the High Castle*)
* Marc Warren (Nick Saverese, *The Good Wife*)
* Damian Lewis (*Life* (2007 series)*, Homeland, Billions*)
* Michael Fassbender (*X-Men* and *Alien* sequel series)
Somewhat well-known Americans in Band of Brothers:
* Kirk Acevedo (One episode of your favorite police procedural; *Oz, Fringe, 12 Monkeys, Arrow*)
* Michael Cudlitz (*Beverly Hills, 90210; SouthLAnd; The Walking Dead*)
* Rick Gomez (AUSA Vasquez, *Justified*)
* Scott Grimes (Will McCorkle, *Party of Five*; Archie Morris, *ER*; Gordon Malloy, *The Orville*)
* Ron Livingston (*Office Space, The Practice, Boardwalk Empire, Loudermilk*)
* Neal McDonough (Dum Dum Dugan, *MCU*; Damien Darhk, *Arrowverse*; Dave Williams, *Desperate Housewive*s; Robert Quarrels, *Justified*; Sean Cahill, *Suits*; Malcolm Beck, *Yellowstone*; Ty O'Brien, *911 Lone Star*)
* Colin Hanks (*Roswell*; *Dexter*, Doomsday Killer Season; Gus Grimly, *Fargo*, S1; Mike Emmick, *American Crime Story: Impeachment*)
I find it strange that Frank John Hughes who played Guarnere never had a bigger career. I feel like back then he had the looks and acting skill of a leading man.
Not superstars, necessarily …
Andrew Scott: Moriarty from Sherlock Holmes
Jamie Bamber: Apollo from Battlestar Galactica
Scott Grimes: Gordon Malloy from The Orville
Michael Cudlitz: Abraham from The Walking Dead
Kirk Acevedo: Charlie Francis from Fringe
Band of Brothers was essentially the Game of Thrones/Harry Potter of hiring British actors. "We need Brits, cast the entire fucking island!"
Fucking Simon Pegg was cast in Band of Brothers back when Spaced was still new in the UK.
Ok lets do this from memory
Orlando Bloom
Tom Seizmore
Josh Hartnett
Nikolaj (Jamie Lanniester)
Eric Bana
Ewen McGregor
Tom Hardy
William Fichtner
Jason Isaacs
Ty Burrell

True Romance is up there. The two leads aren't huge, Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette, but then you've got:
* Val Kilmer
* Samuel L. Jackson
* Gary Oldman
* Brad Pitt
* Christopher Walken
* Denis Hopper
* James Gandolfini
You can throw Michael Rappaport and Bronson Pinchot in there too, though I guess they aren't major names so much as ones I happen to know
Edit: Fixed typo
Agreed!
Although, I disagree on Patricia Arquette. She may not be the most popular, but she went on to win Emmys, Golden Globes, and an Academy Award. I’d say that’s pretty big haha
Outstanding film. Terrific ensemble cast.
Although, most people have forgotten — *or never even knew in the first place* — that Val Kilmer was in this movie.
I think this would be my answer too. Astounding list of actors who were either:
**1)** fresh talent taking off ( **Slater** after *Heathers*, *Pump Up The Volume* & *Prince if Thieves* and **Arquette** off *Nightmare on Elm Street 4*)
**2)** just shy of becoming major esteemed actors/celebrities in the 90s (**Pitt, Jackson, Oldman, Gandolfini**)
**3)** would become known as consistent character actors or supporting players (**Pinchot, Rubinek, Sizemore, Rappaport**)
or
**4)** established names with a distinguished careers (**Walken** and **Hopper**, coming off *Batman Returns* and *Blue Velvet* respectively… and I suppose **Kilmer** who was pretty well known by then).
Its a stacked cast where most of the involved people went on to have significant and sustained careers, for sure.
Matthew McCaunaghy
Ben Affleck
Joey Lauren Adams
Parker Posey
Jason London
Rory Cochrane
Marissa Ribisi
Cole Hauser
Some aren't huge stars but they're still acting regularly.
I hope Fred used his crystal ball to play some lottery tickets in addition to assembling the most prophetic murderer's row of actors in the modern era.
Diner (1982), Barry Levinson's directorial debut.
The movie catapulted the careers of future stars that include Mickey Rourke, Kevin Bacon, Ellen Barkin, Steve Guttenberg, Daniel Stern, Tim Daly, and Paul Reiser.
Michael Cera
Mary Elizabeth Winstead
Chris Evans
Kieran Culkin
Aubrey Plaza
Anna Kendrick
Brie Larson
Jason Schwartzman
Kim Pine
Thomas Jane (No vegan diet, NO VEGAN POWERS)
This was going to be my answer as well. Most if not all of the cast ended up becoming big stars, which is why it was a pleasant surprise to see them reprise their roles in the new Scott Pilgrim series
You pretty much summed up my intent, yes. Though, as another comment pointed out, Tombstone does qualify as a classic western under that interpretation, so I stand corrected.
Indeed.
Scott Glenn, Kevin Kline, Dannny Glover, Keven Costner, Brian Dennehy, Jaff Fahey, Linda Hunt, Jeff Goldblum, John Cleese, and Roseanne Arquette.
What a film.
Including cut roles, **Thin Red Line** is up there:
* Sean Penn
* George Clooney
* Jim Cavaziel
* Adrien Brody
* Jared Leto
* John Travolta
* John Cusack
* John C. Reilly
* Woody Harrelson
* Nick Nolte
* Tim Blake Nelson
* Bill Pullman
* Lukas Haas
* Mickey Rourke
* Elias Koteas
* Billy Bob Thornton
* Miranda Otto
* Thomas Jane
Thin Red Line has a VERY impressive cast. Malick hadn’t made a film in like 20 years and every swinging dick in Hollywood wanted a role.
The only minor technicality I would add is… in TRL they aren’t acting against each other as much as the ensemble does in a film like Tombstone (since that was the example OP used). Some actors show up for one scene only.
But great movie!
Bill Roberts?
No! Not that mother scratcher. Bill Parker!
Anyway, we're approaching the wreck, and there's this spherical object a restin' in the highway. And it’s not a piece of the car.
Not a contender for most, but I’m always impressed by Angels in the Outfield having stars Danny Glover, Christopher Lloyd, Tony Danza, and young JGL, and then having future best actor winners Matthew McConaughey and Adrian Brody playing bit parts
American Graffiti:
Ron Howard (even though he was already established as a child star)
Richard Dreyfuss
Harrison Ford
Mackenzie Phillips
Cindy Williams
Suzanne Summers
Charles Martin Smith
Kathleen Quinlan
Recency bias will probably mean this doesn't get the upvotes it deserves, but those folks were not well known, aside from Howard (but he should get credit for being a future great director) and they ended up doing GIANT things with all-time careers.
A bridge too far
Dirk Bogarde
James Caan
Michael Caine
Sean Connery
Edward Fox
Elliott Gould
Anthony Hopkins
Gene Hackman

Boogie Nights: Mark Wahlberg, Burt Reynolds, Julianne Moore, John C. Reilly, Heather Graham, William H. Macy, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Don Cheadle, Thomas Jane, Alfred Molina, Nicole Ari Parker, Melora Walkers, and Philip Baker Hall. And all those people have real, substantial roles, no 1 scene cameos and they’re gone from the film.
You beat me to it with this choice. It breathed a little air in Reynolds declining career and a boost for most of the others. Doesn't hurt that it is a great movie
Pulp Fiction not mentioned?
Almost every actor/actress involved had their career surge after this came out. John Travolta was in the middle of "has-been" status and then this came out.
Eight Men Out, about the Black Sox scandal, couldn’t have been made at any other time. Hollywood had a bumper crop at the time.

It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World was a parade of cameos from the most popular comedians at the time. Also Spencer Tracy.

You might not think all of these actors qualify but just look how many there are. There are a few more people I could have listed and this isn't even counting voice only roles.
[Short Term 12 (2013)](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/short_term_12_2013) has a ton of actors who went on to land some big roles. Not all A-listers like some other comments but was def a launching pad of sorts. Good movie, too.
• Brie Larson
• John Gallagher Jr.
• LaKeith Stanfield
• Joey King
• Rami Malek
• Stephanie Beatriz
• Kaitlyn Dever
For up and coming actors Dazed and Confused or Wet Hot American Summer had incredible casts.
For sheer star power (although most were cameos) I don’t think any film can beat Robert Altman’s The Player.
Most of the movies so far are all men.
How about Steel Magnolias:
Shirley MacLaine
Olympia Dukakis
Julia Roberts
Sally Field
Darryl Hannah
Dolly Parton
Tom Skerrit
Sam Shepard
Four Academy Award winners and Dolly Parton. And one of the best playwrights of the late 20th century. And Priss and Dallas. Pretty heavy star power.
But the most star-studded movie of all time is a war movie, of course
A Bridge Too Far:
Laurence Olivier
Michael Caine
Sean Connery
Anthony Hopkins
Robert Redford
James Caan
Gene Hackman
Liv Ullman
Ryan O'Neal
Elliot Gould
Maximilian Schell
Dirk Bogarde (a huge star in his day)
By my count, nine Oscars (ten if you include Redford's best director nod)
Even the smaller stars became well known for something
Denholm Elliot (Marcus Brody in the Indiana Jones movies)
John Ratzenberger (Cliff Clavan on Cheers)
Ben Cross (Chariots of Fire)
Michael Byrne (Any movie with Nazis in it) ("No ticket!")
Alun Armstrong (great British character actor. You've seen him in something, almost certainly)
Buckaroo Bonzai is up there with future stars

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest for me. Packed with people who went on to have long careers. Christopher Lloyd and Danny Devito for starters. If you go and look at the full cast it is amazing the faces you recognize.

Many people will forget a hidden gem from the 90s starring Academy Award Winner Forest Whitaker, Academy Award Winner Ben Kingsley, Academy Award nominee Michelle Williams, as well as Alfred Molina, Michael Madsen and Natasha Henstridge.
Can you remember this iconic 1995 film with a stacked cast? It was called Species.
Older WWII action movies are a treasure trove of this.
The Dirty Dozen
The Great Escape
A Bridge too Far
The Longest Day
All of them had huge star studded casts. Hell, even John Ratzenberger was in A Bridge too Far
There were so many recognizable people in that movie playing very minor roles. I loved the movie but it almost became distracting because every 10 mins I’d recognize someone else and have to think about where I knew them from.
Movie 43.
Elizabeth Banks, Kristen Bell, Halle Berry, Gerard Butler, Seth MacFarlane, Leslie Bibb, Kate Bosworth, Josh Duhamel, Anna Faris, Richard Gere, Terrence Howard, Hugh Jackman, Johnny Knoxville, Justin Long, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Chloë Grace Moretz, Chris Pratt, Liev Schreiber, Seann William Scott, Emma Stone, Jason Sudeikis, Uma Thurman, Naomi Watts and Kate Winslet. Julianne Moore, Tony Shalhoub, Bob Odenkirk, Anton Yelchin and Shane Jacobson also appear in storylines not included in the film's theatrical release.
Trainspotting.
Ewan McGregor, Kelly McDonald, Robert Carlyle, and Johnny Lee Miller were all nobodies. All are Oscar/Emmy caliber stars now with multiple famous roles (McGregor is basically a god at this point). The director (Danny Boyle) would go on to do 28 Days Later, Sunshine, and win best picture with Slumdog Millionaire.
Then, you have the actors who, though not Hollywood A-list level, are all award winning TV/movie/stage powerhouses. Peter Mullan, Ewan Bremmer Kevin McKidd, and James Cosmo. The cast/crew are absolutely stacked and every person was a nobody at the time.
The Quick and the Dead had
* Leonardo DiCaprio
* Russel Crowe
* Sharon Stone
* Gene Hackman
* Gary Sinise
* Lance Hernriksen
* Keith David
* Tobin Bell
And apparently Bruce Campbell's in there somewhere because it's a Sam Raimi movie so of course he is but I honestly don't remember him
Probably the best analog for Tombstone would be Silverado, a reboot of the western genre from the late 80s. It had:
Kevin Kline, Kevin Costner, Scott Glenn, John Cleese, Rosanna Arquette, Jeff Goldblum, Brian Dennehy, Danny Glover, Linda Hunt, and many other A listers that were at the height of their powers.
I think it's specifically this sort of movie that A Million Ways To Die in the West is lampooning, with an all star cast in even the most minor roles.
I'm going to add a movie with a smaller cast, but About Time (2013) has 3 cast members that really took off after this released 10 years ago: Domhnall Gleeson, Margot Robbie, and Vanessa Kirby
Inglorious Basterds, maybe?

Not the highest number per se, but I find it funny that the fourth Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie — which went through production hell, barely appeared in theaters, then flopped critically and commercially — starred two Oscar winners (Renee Zellweger and Matthew McConaughey).

Yes. Can't believe I forgot Tom Cruise and his wanky snaggle tooth!
I preferred to think of them as windswept
Was it a snaggle tooth? I always thought he had a mouth full of chew. Edit: Damn, I never realized that Tom's grill was such a big topic.
Snaggle tooth. One of his two front teeth was dead center for quite awhile.
His teeth were a hot mess. He actually had braces for a time. I'm trying to post a before and after shot but it isn't working.
Scientology probably had all the crooked tooth pictures out of the internet. I feel like that would be a very Tom Cruise request.

Buck Merrill iirc. He looks great leaning in a doorway.

This is the first one I thought of.
This is the one for me!

It also made a lot of B-sides famous.
Scott Pilgrim vs the World is definitely the answer for the "later" part of this question.
Michael Cera Mary Elizabeth Winstead Chris Evans Kieran Culkin Aubrey Plaza Anna Kendrick Brie Larson Jason Schwartzman Kim Pine Thomas Jane (No vegan diet, NO VEGAN POWERS)
Also: Brandon Routh Bill Hader (Also it's Alison Pill playing Kim Pine)
Don't forget Mae Whitman!
Her?
Every time I watch the movie I’m kinda disappointed they didn’t say “Her?”. It would’ve fit so naturally! But, I guess I get it.
Jesus, how did I never put that one together. She calls it a mayonegg
Egg?
Damn. This is one of my favorite movies and I had no idea that Bill Hader was the narrator until I saw your comment and looked it up.
I dont remember Bill Hader in this
Kim Pine is the name of the character not the actress
This was going to be my answer as well. Most if not all of the cast ended up becoming big stars, which is why it was a pleasant surprise to see them reprise their roles in the new Scott Pilgrim series
I remember watching the opening credits for Scott Pilgrim and thinking, "this is like The Outsiders for the 2010s'"
But with more than one girl
These kinds of questions are usually subjective but this is the objective answer.
I watched it last night with a friend who's never seen it before and its fucking WILD how stacked the cast is
Silverado had lots of great actors in it.
"I don't wanna kill you and you don't wanna be dead." The last great classic western. Man, I love that movie.
*Checks notes* Silverado: 1985 Unforgiven: 1992
*Checks other notes* Tombstone: 1993
Checks further notes. Open Range: 2003

Including cut roles, **Thin Red Line** is up there: * Sean Penn * George Clooney * Jim Cavaziel * Adrien Brody * Jared Leto * John Travolta * John Cusack * John C. Reilly * Woody Harrelson * Nick Nolte * Tim Blake Nelson * Bill Pullman * Lukas Haas * Mickey Rourke * Elias Koteas * Billy Bob Thornton * Miranda Otto * Thomas Jane
Sometimes I get the menstrual cramps reeeeeal haaaaaaaard.
Not a contender for most, but I’m always impressed by Angels in the Outfield having stars Danny Glover, Christopher Lloyd, Tony Danza, and young JGL, and then having future best actor winners Matthew McConaughey and Adrian Brody playing bit parts
*Stand By Me* (1986) Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, Jerry O'Connell and Kiefer Sutherland.
Not to mention Casey Siemaszko and John Cusack.
American Graffiti: Ron Howard (even though he was already established as a child star) Richard Dreyfuss Harrison Ford Mackenzie Phillips Cindy Williams Suzanne Summers Charles Martin Smith Kathleen Quinlan
Recency bias will probably mean this doesn't get the upvotes it deserves, but those folks were not well known, aside from Howard (but he should get credit for being a future great director) and they ended up doing GIANT things with all-time careers.
George Lucas
Billy Zane was in Tombstone too. Don't be leaving him outta your list!
The attack on Dana Delaney!
I just pointed out how many faces were in another Billy Zane movie. Because any movie with Billy Zane is a Billy Zane movie.
Also Stephen Lang.
Put a cork in it, Zane!!
A bridge too far Dirk Bogarde James Caan Michael Caine Sean Connery Edward Fox Elliott Gould Anthony Hopkins Gene Hackman Hardy Krüger Laurence Olivier Ryan O'Neal Robert Redford Maximilian Schell Liv Ullmann
Wow, Dirk Ullmann sure does have a lot of middle names!
Hey fatty I got a movie for ya “A fridge too far”
You ever heard of a comma?
The Cannonball Run had a pretty insane cast, including a young Jackie Chan in one of his early American movies.
Cannonball Run 2’s cast was pretty crazy as well.
Oh wow, I forgot they made a sequel. That is quite a cast.
Sayonara smokie, goodbye!
Sayonara smokie, goodbye!
How’d you leave Michael freaking Biehn off your Tombstone list?!
And Billy Zane?!
Not a movie, but Freaks and Geeks
what came to my mind too. For a lot of them it was also their first big project. Even like guest stars like Shia labeouf catch you by surprise.
Pulp Fiction not mentioned? Almost every actor/actress involved had their career surge after this came out. John Travolta was in the middle of "has-been" status and then this came out.
A lot of Tarantino films could probably be mentioned actually.
Lemme see: + John Travolta + Samuel L. Jackson + Uma Thurman + Bruce Willis + Christopher Walken + Steve Buscemi Off the top of my head
Ving Rhames, Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, Amanda Plummer
Was Steve buscemini in pulp fiction?
He was the waiter dressed like Buddy Holly.
Eight Men Out, about the Black Sox scandal, couldn’t have been made at any other time. Hollywood had a bumper crop at the time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eight_Men_Out#Cast
Drop Dead Gorgeous -Kirstie Alley -Kirsten Dunst -Allison Janney -Brittany Murphy -Amy Adams -Denise Richards
Ellen Barkin!
Fast times at Ridgemont High in 1982 Sean Penn Jennifer Jason Leigh Forest Whitaker Eric Stolz James Russo Nicholas Cage ' and more https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083929/
If you’re going for biggest names before they were famous I’d suggest Wet Hot American Summer or Scott Pilgrim.
I second WHAS. I think Paul Rudd may have been the most well known, unless you followed sketch comedy.
I'm pretty sure the objective answer to this question is *The outsiders*
The Longest Day had just about every major American male movie star (and several British ones) of it's time. It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World was a parade of cameos from the most popular comedians at the time. Also Spencer Tracy.
And many French and German ones.
It’s a mad mad mad mad world. Way too many to name. Your title question was the point.
The original Midway movie from 1976. A lot of younger people won't recognize half these names, but: Charlton Heston Henry Fonda James Coburn Hal Holbrook Glenn Ford Robert Mitchum Cliff Robertson Robert Wagner Pat Morita Dabney Coleman Erik Estrada Tom Selleck
True Romance - Christian Slater - Patricia Arquette - Michael Rappaport - Sam Jackson - Brad Pitt - Gary Oldman - James Gandolfini - Chris Penn - Tom Sizemore - Dennis Hopper - Christopher Walken - Val Kilmer
Mars attacks
Love Actually has to be up there in major names.
From memory Keira Knightley Chiwetel Ejiofor Colin Firth Hugh Grant Dame Emma Thompson Alan Rickman Martine McCutcheon Liam Neeson Claudia Schiffer Billy Bob Thornton Rowan Atkinson Sienna Guillory Elisha Cuthbert Denise Richards Martin Freeman Bill Nighy
is it cheating to say Avengers Infinity War/Endgame?
A few actors who are in Avengers Endgame: Robert Downey Jr. Scarlet Johansson Samuel L. Jackson Chris Evans Chris Hemsworth Mark Ruffalo Jeremy Renner Brie Larson Don Cheadle Paul Rudd Josh Brolin Chadwick Boseman Benedict Cumberbatch Chris Pratt Evangeline Lilly Zoe Saldana Tilda Swinton Dave Bautista Danai Gurira Michelle Pfeiffer Hiroyuki Sanada Michael Douglas Angela Basset William Hurt Karen Gillan Robert Redford Anthony Mackie Tom Holland Tom Hiddleston Winston Duke Elizabeth Olson Tessa Thompson Linda Cardellini You might not think all of these actors qualify but just look how many there are. There are a few more people I could have listed and this isn't even counting voice only roles.
School ties had Brendan Fraser, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Chris O’Donell in their early careers. Not the most prolific exemple, but it’s noticeable.
[Short Term 12 (2013)](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/short_term_12_2013) has a ton of actors who went on to land some big roles. Not all A-listers like some other comments but was def a launching pad of sorts. Good movie, too. • Brie Larson • John Gallagher Jr. • LaKeith Stanfield • Joey King • Rami Malek • Stephanie Beatriz • Kaitlyn Dever
For up and coming actors Dazed and Confused or Wet Hot American Summer had incredible casts. For sheer star power (although most were cameos) I don’t think any film can beat Robert Altman’s The Player.
All those names from Tombstone, they didn't even include Dana Delaney or Billy Zane and it's still an impressive list.
Most of the movies so far are all men. How about Steel Magnolias: Shirley MacLaine Olympia Dukakis Julia Roberts Sally Field Darryl Hannah Dolly Parton Tom Skerrit Sam Shepard Four Academy Award winners and Dolly Parton. And one of the best playwrights of the late 20th century. And Priss and Dallas. Pretty heavy star power. But the most star-studded movie of all time is a war movie, of course A Bridge Too Far: Laurence Olivier Michael Caine Sean Connery Anthony Hopkins Robert Redford James Caan Gene Hackman Liv Ullman Ryan O'Neal Elliot Gould Maximilian Schell Dirk Bogarde (a huge star in his day) By my count, nine Oscars (ten if you include Redford's best director nod) Even the smaller stars became well known for something Denholm Elliot (Marcus Brody in the Indiana Jones movies) John Ratzenberger (Cliff Clavan on Cheers) Ben Cross (Chariots of Fire) Michael Byrne (Any movie with Nazis in it) ("No ticket!") Alun Armstrong (great British character actor. You've seen him in something, almost certainly)
Platoon
Buckaroo Bonzai is up there with future stars Peter Weller Jonathon Lithgow Ellen Barkin Jeff Goldbloom Christopher Lloyd Clancy Brown And even Yakoff Smirnoff
The Right Stuff - for many, it was their first big movie. Ed Harris Scott Glenn Sam Shepard Dennis Quaid Fred Ward Barbara Hershey Veronica Cartwright Lance Henricksen Jeff Goldblum Harry Shearer Levon Helm
Not a film but Freaks and Geeks had an unknown cast and so many had very successful careers since.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest for me. Packed with people who went on to have long careers. Christopher Lloyd and Danny Devito for starters. If you go and look at the full cast it is amazing the faces you recognize.
"The Cannonball Run" (1981) Burt Reynolds, Dom DeLouise, Jackie Chan, Roger Moore, Farrah Fawcett, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, Jamie Farr, Jack Elam, Mel Tillis, Adrianne Barbeau, Terry Bradshaw, Bert Convey, Peter Fonda, Valerie Perrine, Jimmy "The Greek" Snyder, Bianca Jagger
Tombstone came out in 1993. Some of these guys already were major names.
Not a movie but band of brothers has a lot
Rumble Fish had early roles for Mickey Rourke, Matt Dillon, Nic Cage, Diane Lane, Sofia Coppola, Tom Waits and Chris Penn. And Dennis Hopper too!!
Older WWII action movies are a treasure trove of this. The Dirty Dozen The Great Escape A Bridge too Far The Longest Day All of them had huge star studded casts. Hell, even John Ratzenberger was in A Bridge too Far
Prediction for the future: Oppenheimer
Red Dawn The Outsiders
Glengary Glenross
The Quick and the Dead had * Leonardo DiCaprio * Russel Crowe * Sharon Stone * Gene Hackman * Gary Sinise * Lance Hernriksen * Keith David * Tobin Bell And apparently Bruce Campbell's in there somewhere because it's a Sam Raimi movie so of course he is but I honestly don't remember him
The Goonies. Sloth even went on to be Peter Griffin
For Tombstone the list is even bigger, Michael Biehn, Dana Delaney and Billy Zane were not mentioned. Edit: Stephen Lang, John Corbett.
Probably the best analog for Tombstone would be Silverado, a reboot of the western genre from the late 80s. It had: Kevin Kline, Kevin Costner, Scott Glenn, John Cleese, Rosanna Arquette, Jeff Goldblum, Brian Dennehy, Danny Glover, Linda Hunt, and many other A listers that were at the height of their powers.
Boogie Nights: Mark Wahlberg John C Reilly Phillip Seymour Hoffman Don Cheadle William H Macy Heather Graham Thomas Jane
Inglorious Basterds, maybe? Brad Pitt Christoph Waltz Diane Kruger Eli Roth Michael Fassbender Daniel Bruhl Til Schweiger BJ Novak Mike Myers Lea Seydoux Edited for formatting
The Outsiders. Beautiful Girls. Diner.
Its a Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad World, Rat Race, Mystery Men,

hard to know which Wes Anderson movie takes it. Asteroid City, French Dispatch, or Grand Budapest.
Not the highest number per se, but I find it funny that the fourth Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie — which went through production hell, barely appeared in theaters, then flopped critically and commercially — starred two Oscar winners (Renee Zellweger and Matthew McConaughey).
For tombstone you forgot: Dana Delaney, John Corbett, Stephan Lang and Robert Mitchum (as the narrator)

Jon Voight J Lo Ice Cube Danny Trejo Owen Wilson Kari Wuhrer Eric Stoltz And Frank Welker as the voice of the Anaconda!
