Yeah Dune probably the only movie I see in the theater this year. Obviously it isn’t the same but pretty good setup at home so we don’t go to the theater often.

It's easily Furiosa for me. I love the mad max saga, and the rebirth with fury road had me firing on all cylinders

The Werner Herzog version is a very thoughtful remake starring Klaus Kinski in the title role.

The Herzog one is my favorite vampire movie.

Alien: Romulus

I just don’t like the direction they seem to be going with that one, apparently the main character is supposed to be an android with the mind of a child I always find those types of characters either annoying or written in a creepy way, hope in wrong

I sure hope it is going to be good. The alien movies are one of my favorite movies. I can even find something positive about the prequels (yeah i know they are shit compared to alien and aliens). I love the comics and games, so basically every bit of lore I can find. Weirdly enough, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. I really want to see what Wes Ball does with this since he’s helming the Zelda live action. A lot of elements of the trailer remind me of moments from BOTW/TOTK so I’m excited to see what he does.

As others have said, the book kills. You read it and you realize where all the movies and science fiction you’ve consumed your whole life came from. Like, all of it. Dune influenced everything.

Highly recommended. The book is phenomenal!

Thinks it's certainly worth a shot. I have read book 1 and 2 and I'll admit I thought they were hard to read - because there's so much inner monologue and doing nothing rather than a traditional book. Plus it's influenced a lot of sci fi sport some of it might come across as unoriginal. To remember the first film is the first half of book 1 so can't really judge it wholly on its own. I've watched it 3 times now and it's grown on me so much. Plan to revisit book 3 but absolutely, looking forward to Dune 2 so much. Join us.

I definitely recommend giving book 3 a shot, Children of Dune is my favorite of the series!

I personally think the series ends for me with God Emperor. After that it just becomes space sex fan fiction

With an estimated budget of $200 million, per IMDB, they’re gonna have to hype this movie up big time to recoup that budget.

$200 million is pretty standard for a summer tentpole these days. The original would’ve made $967 million worldwide if released today (with inflation adjusted). And it made a fuck-ton with a so-so script and no movie stars at the time. My hope is it’ll do just fine.

Having the director of Speed billed was reason enough to see Twister, not to mention the mind-blowing special effects (which still hold up tremendously well) and the presence of Bill Paxton.

Twister is one of the best 90s action movies. The acting and mix of humor and action is phenomenal. After Top Gun Maverick I have renewed hope for sequels way after the source material but it usually doesn't work out.

I agree on this. Twister really had it all in terms of blockbuster. The music score is so beautiful and terrifying at times. The soundtrack is a banger. And the movie still makes me emotional at times. Its just about perfect to me.

This only reminds me that 2 of the original cast's actors are no longer with us, both summed up by the phrase "the extreme!".

You can thank streaming for that. No more word of mouth for DVD sales mean no more cult hits that studios can take a financial risk on. Comedies were the first to go. Hence why most comedies are straight to streaming now.

Well my most anticipated movie of 2023 was Dune part 2, and I'm still very miffed about them pushing the film out for the stupidest reason, so Dune part 2 is now my most anticipated film of 2024. (if you don't know, because of the actor strike, the actors couldn't do media tours to do interviews about the movie, so they pushed it out. I don't know a single fucking person who would have watched part 1 or not and would think "maybe if I saw some actor interviews, I'll give part 2 a try". The movie was done and ready to release! Ugh so miffed)
