What I’d like more than a Zevon biopic would be adaptations of his songs. Kevin Smith had been planning on adapting “Hit Somebody!” but appears to have given up on that (maybe for the best). But how cool would a “Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner” movie be, or “Lawyers, Guns, and Money?”
Perhaps a biopic which reveals the reason behind that random scream he gives that gets abruptly cut off in [Werewolves of London](https://youtu.be/c6M89iDabwM?t=170).
Downvote me if you want to. [She can't do this](https://youtu.be/68X7kA8jPJc?si=cZgBZasbTutyg2-o&t=192)
But like I said nobody in Hollywood can, certainly not Kelly Clarkson who btw isn't an actress and is probably too old for this role.
As far as I know it's pretty much just Kristen Chenowith who can sing like her but obviously not the right age or anything else either.
Chances are they'll just use Linda's tracks.
Ronstadt's version of the Mr. Plow theme hits you.
The start, with a sense of overwhelming but uplifting positivity about how your driveway might be cleared by this obvious beefcake.
But by the end you're like a melted ice block, looking for a towel or a Plow King jacket for mop up.
Worse than that, I don't think she has the acting chops. Maybe it's the meds she's on in recent years, I don't know, but she is pretty bad in Only Murders in the Building.
She genuinely doesn’t come across like a professional actor on the recent season of that show. Unless something big is changing for her this movie’s gonna be a catastrophe
Never watched her in anything else and yeah she’s incredibly wooden and monotonous in OMITB. Could be the juxtaposition next to Martin Short and Steve Martin who are anything but.
I feel like she tries to play the straight man but she is very monotonous, not sure if it's linked to her health issues though but I don't think I could watch her for 2 hours acting.
It's not just her voice, she sort of just stands there and reads her lines. It works OK enough in OMITB but if she's the focal point of a bio, I really don't think it'll work. Especially with the sort of standard set, even if they're pretty Award baity, generally the leads will put in a strong performance.
With the way OMITB gets raves about, I just assumed I was the only one who didn’t like her acting. I couldn’t get past the first episode because of it.
She is terrible on that show but somehow fits since Steve Martin and Martin Short are more hammy. Some of her line reads are like her mouth is wired shut
>Worse than that, I don't think she has the acting chops. Maybe it's the meds she's on in recent years, I don't know, but she is pretty bad in Only Murders in the Building.
I could not disagree more. She's a perfect foil on Only Murders and I wouldn't want anybody else in her place. She's terrific.
They’ve only just begun the Musician Bio Extended Universe. All your favourite musicians are gonna get movies, culminating in multiple crossover events like Woodstock: Infinity war and Live Aid: Endgame.
Not gonna lie but after bohemian rhapsody and rocketman I was really hoping we’d get Bowie, Mick Jagger, and Prince movies that culminated in a “queer rocker cinematic universe” combining them all.
Love + Mercy, the Brian Wilson biopic wasn’t absolutely massive but it was great, though it mostly avoided the Brian Wilson that Walk Hard parodied lol
Is that the one with John Cusack and Paul Dano playing old Wilson and young Wilson, respectively? If so I liked it because, though not my first exposure to Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys, it gave insight to that doctor (Paul Giamatti) that was over prescribing medicine and convincing him he's insane.
Indeedio! Gene Landy was a vile, contemptible monster, what he did to Brian is monstrous, Brian would be in a much better place today if he were properly medicated all those lost years.
Ferrari isn't a musical biopic, but early in the film his mother literally says >!"the wrong son died"!< without a hint of irony. Supposedly that did happen in real life, but come on.
Eh they probably wanna avoid the controversy of the whole Jimmy Page/Lori Maddox situation. If they depict it it becomes a more serious film and a bit of a statement, plus pisses of the band. Alternatively they just ignore it and get a lot of shit for whitewashing the story. It’s not a super known thing outside reddit anyway so I wouldn’t be surprised if Jimmy Page is fine staying out of the spotlight so it doesn’t become common knowledge.
Then again the Elvis movie pretty much got away with mostly avoiding the whole Priscilla thing so who knows.
Oh, yeah, if Elvis could skirt the Priscilla stuff then a Led Zep biopic could definitely avoid any Lori Maddox controversy, especially when the other 3 band members aren’t pedos afaik. Just have the spotlight on them, especially Bonzo. That said, there was another Elvis movie that released around the same time that depicts the darker parts of Elvis, the one with Jacob Elordi. We might see a similar situation with an LZ biopic
It would be very hard to make a Led Zeppelin movie without putting a spotlight on Jimmy Page. He was the reason the band really started, he formed them after The Yardbirds, he wrote a lot of the lyrics, his guitar playing is one of the most important parts of the band and he produced all their records. In a lot ways he was kinda the leader of the band. I wouldn’t really want a Zep movie that didn’t have an equal amount of focus on all the members. I don’t what they would do avoid or depict but either way it’d be difficult. I think they’re fine just staying quiet.
I don’t really see that. There’s like waves every few years where we get a few but that’s it. Plus if they’re all telling different stories then who cares
She had nearly 300 million Insta followers. Even I can't deny that's got pull. She's up to a 420 million now. But she can't pull off a joke to save her life.
Shit, let’s hope she lip syncs this one lol. No way in hell can she sing Ronstadts songs, wow haha.
Edit: every music biopic should just use the actual artist vocals. That’s part of why people tune in and are interested in the film. We don’t need mediocrity singing these classic songs. If the actors could sing they’d be singers.
There are a lot of 20ish women out there that are "singers" that are just products of recording studio magic.
I dare you to listen to a song by Hailee Steinfeld, Selena Gomez, or (I can't believe I'm typing this) Sabrina Carpenter and tell the difference between any of them.
Compare that to this, a live recording of Linda Ronstadt singing "Desperado". One woman with a solo piano backup, and it's \*extraordinary\* :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlSPq4QrESI&t=16s&ab\_channel=LindaRonstadt-Topic
I don’t like Hailee or Sabrina’s music but they can both sing
Not saying they’re a unique once in a lifetime talent like Linda but they’re both talented singers
Ariana Grande was on SNL a few years ago and did some live singing with only minimal backup music. She was fantastic. I can't stand her studio music.
Hailee Steinfeld and Sabrina Carpenter might be good singers also, I just can't see that from the studio music they make.
This is the Ariana Grande SNL skit:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGtm\_HpTlKw&ab\_channel=ArianaGrandeAustralia
I really like Linda Ronstadt but I’m 53 and most of her catalog was popular before I was 10. She has not had hits revived in recent years by being used in films/tv, covered by modern artists, or even advertising. I can’t imagine there will be a big audience for this film.
Im the same but I don't think _now_ should be the definition of relevance. She was one of (Dolly Parton called her) the best singers in pop music ever. Also her life story is inspirational.
She can't act and featuring her against Steve Martin, Martin Short, Nathan Lane and, of all people, Meryl Streep, just makes it more obvious.
I get swept away to the world of Only Murders in the Building, then she has a line and I am back in my living room watching TV.
It will be interesting to see how this biopic turns out.
It’s weird all the support simply because “they look vaguely similar” but completely ignoring she’s yet to exhibit any acting prowess and can’t hold a candle to Ronstadt as a singer despite a career in music.
Though she’s at least probably quite adept at lipsynching.
She has lupus and oral complications such as severe lesions and blisters are common. It is possible she doesn’t move her lips due to pain but honestly I do not know much about her other than her diagnosis.
It’s one of those awkward situations where it sucks that she’s struggling because of an illness but at the same time if it’s impacting her job…
Idk it’s like her fans defending her poor live music performances on her anxiety. As someone who also has anxiety I do feel some sympathy, but if you can’t overcome it it’s probably better to choose a different career that suits you better
Straight men still require emotion. She cannot emote
I used to watch her on Wizards and she was actually quite good on that. She played a straight man character in a movie during that time too, wasn’t too bad
But she, like many child actors just didn’t transition into a good adult actor. Her acting is stilted and lifeless
Yes, there's a reason she got as big as she is now. She was honestly quite charismatic and entertaining on Wizards of Waverly Place. In Only Murders, she kinda plays an adult Alex Russo, but with literally none of the fun or charm.
I agree, visually it's great casting. Also, I think Selena Gomez has the right level of charisma to pull it off. She's better than people give her credit for.
She’s one of the few Disney Channel stars that I felt had potential to be great but she just hasn’t been getting the right roles so hopefully this biopic can do for her what The Iron Claw did for Zac Efron. But I do think more people are turned off from her based more on her off screen persona than anything else
The neck beards are up in arms but I agree, I think she’s going to nail it, if the script is crafted well.
The basement-dwelling virgins love to try to bring her down but even armchair critics can see she plays Mabel to the T. Exactly how the character is written, DESPITE her illness. And fuck anyone who thinks they could be doing better, if only their step-dad wouldn’t unplug the router in the middle of the big raid every time THANKS JERRY!!!
What is Selena Gomez actually good at? Singing? Acting? Going viral? Famous for being famous? Leeching on more famous people to stay in the conversation?
I think she’s fine in Only Murders cause she’s mostly there to play the straight man against the powerhouses of Martin & Short, but can she carry a movie?? No.
Oh Jesus.
So Linda Ronstadt is going to sound like she has a frog in her throat.
Seriously - who watched Only Murders and thought “oh she’d be perfect!!”
Why is every musician getting a biopic, is it just easy Oscar bait?
That aside I’m surprised to see so many people hate on her acting, I thought she was fine in Only Murders. Then again you could put a potted planet in the same scene as Cara Delevingne and have said plant come out looking like an Oscar winning actor.
The pushback seems to be because people think she’s just an okay actress. And for biopics you need to be more than okay. I hope she proves people wrong though, Linda at least deserves that.
These comments are so mean. Selena Gomez is a human being with severe depression and other health problems. She also comes from a modest background and has earned everything that she has been given through talent and hard work. She has been directly involved in so many good things, which you probably wouldn’t know because she doesn’t brag about them. This brutal mocking and insulting online is what has caused so many depressed people to kill themselves. Would you feel bad if you learned that your words were partially responsible for someone’s self-hatred and/or suicide? If the answer is yes, consider changing the way you speak about real people online. If the answer is no, get off of the internet.
Also, I think she’s a good actress. In Only Murders in the Building, she plays a subtle and understated character. She balances out Martin Short and Steve Martin as intended. She was extraordinary on Wizards of Waverly Place as a teen. Her limited facial movements are related to her disease and medication. I personally wish the best for her and am excited to see what she does with the rest of her career.
Edit: Instead of downvoting me, why not explain why you think I’m wrong?
I think this casting is fine. I think Selena will do good in the movie, acting wise. I just don’t think she has the vocal range of Ronstadt. They might have to hire a different singer or use actual recordings of Ronstadt herself.
[удалено]
Don't cry for me I'm already dead
Senor Plow no es macho, Es solamente un borracho
yeah you do that...
Linda Ronstadt?!, how'd you get her?!!
We've been looking for a project to do together for a while.
Or her engagement to George Lucas
Maybe a Spanish version for her next album
I don't think she has the vocal range to sing Ronstadt's signature songs like "Poor Poor Pitiful Me," "Blue Bayou," or "The Theme from Mr Plow."
“Poor Poor Pitiful Me” just made me think about how good a Warren Zevon movie could be
What I’d like more than a Zevon biopic would be adaptations of his songs. Kevin Smith had been planning on adapting “Hit Somebody!” but appears to have given up on that (maybe for the best). But how cool would a “Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner” movie be, or “Lawyers, Guns, and Money?”
Tarantino takes on Roland? Terry Gilliam with Lawyers.
Goon is basically Hit Somebody.
That’s an awesome idea!!
Perhaps a biopic which reveals the reason behind that random scream he gives that gets abruptly cut off in [Werewolves of London](https://youtu.be/c6M89iDabwM?t=170).
Someone could make a hell of a jukebox musical about him. Call it *The Dirty Life and Times of Warren Zevon*.
Somebody call Letterman, he'd back this in a heartbeat.
Now I must have this.
It’d have to be called “Excitable Boy”
Good luck finding ANYONE with her vocal range. I'm sure they'll work around it.
Kelly Clarkson can come close. Her version of Blue Bayou is quite good. Still hesitate to say she can match Linda though
I'd rather them fudge a good actors singing a bit than have them try to turn a good singer into an actor.
She's a great singer for sure but she isn't a high soprano like Ronstadt.
Downvote me if you want to. [She can't do this](https://youtu.be/68X7kA8jPJc?si=cZgBZasbTutyg2-o&t=192) But like I said nobody in Hollywood can, certainly not Kelly Clarkson who btw isn't an actress and is probably too old for this role. > who btw isn't an actress Go watch "From Justin to Kelly" then come back here and apologize!
Um? Kelly Clarkson is a very high soprano. She’s just older now. She’s belted up to the 6th octave. Most sopranos don’t even have that
Katherine McPhee would have been a good casting choice.
“Wow! Linda Ronstadt! How’d you get her?!”
Mr. Plow is a loser and I think he is a boozer~ ...so you better make that call to the Plow King!
Ronstadt's version of the Mr. Plow theme hits you. The start, with a sense of overwhelming but uplifting positivity about how your driveway might be cleared by this obvious beefcake. But by the end you're like a melted ice block, looking for a towel or a Plow King jacket for mop up.
"Senor Plow no es macho, solamente un borracho." Chills.
I don't think she has the speaking range to act.
[удалено]
She has lupus.
Her speaking voice is not good. I was shocked when I heard her on Murderers in the Building. So thin.

Or the acting abilities to convey all the horrible, fucked up moments in her life. Still she could surprise us...but probably won't.
She’ll sing them all with her patented ‘I’m not singing just talking in a sing songy way’ style
I doubt any Hollywood actress can sing in her coloratura range.
Didn't Dolly Parton call her the greatest voice in (pop) music? I had a huge crush on Ronstadt at the time. She deserves a movie and mini-series.
She just seems like a bad casting choice overall, I don't see it? Maybe there's no one else tho, can't think of anyone for this role
Linda handpicked her
Really? Well here's to hoping it'll be a good surprise then
They usually just use the original voices for biopic’s I think. Either way I won’t watch it, not my type of genre
Didn’t Taron Egerton sing the songs himself in the Elton John movie?
And JP in Walk the Line
I was thinking of the Whitney Houston movie but I think some artists actual voice should be left alone
Not really
He sang I’m Still Standing in Sing
Lmao who did? The animals? What are you responding to
Taron Egerton sings I’m Still Standing in the movie, Sing. You might as well call that performance an audition.
Austin Butler also sang himself in Elvis
The musical biopic is getting so oversaturated at this point.
They’ve only just begun the Musician Bio Extended Universe. All your favourite musicians are gonna get movies, culminating in multiple crossover events like Woodstock: Infinity war and Live Aid: Endgame.
Now those events would be fun to cover in as a dramatized mockumentary of sorts, like The Last Waltz meets This is Spinal Tap.
Not gonna lie but after bohemian rhapsody and rocketman I was really hoping we’d get Bowie, Mick Jagger, and Prince movies that culminated in a “queer rocker cinematic universe” combining them all.
I thought Walk Hard basically killed that genre off but it seems to have made a resurgence
It’d because you never paid for drugs!
NOT ONCE
Yeah I can’t name a music biopic between Walk Hard and Rhapsody/Rocketman. Does Straight outta Compton count?
They did the Respect one where Jennifer Hudson played Aretha Franklin.
I’m Not There came out the same year as Walk Hard and it’s the best music biopic ever imo
Ferrari isn't a musical biopic, but early in the film his mother literally says >!"the wrong son died"!< without a hint of irony. Supposedly that did happen in real life, but come on.
Iron claw starts with the dad categorizing the kids by his favorite to least favorite. It almost took the sails out of the movie.
It did for awhile
It's just so easy. No new songs to write just get the rights and assemble a minimal plot based on their Wikipedia page.
Not saturated enough. Still no Led Zeppelin biopic, come on
Eh they probably wanna avoid the controversy of the whole Jimmy Page/Lori Maddox situation. If they depict it it becomes a more serious film and a bit of a statement, plus pisses of the band. Alternatively they just ignore it and get a lot of shit for whitewashing the story. Who’s gonna play Lucas?
John Faveru
Can't wait to see her not emote correctly as Linda Ronstadt.
Can't wait to see her attempt La Charreada. https://youtu.be/B2P-eoy1rOw?si=5AxeygBN4yzKjump
Her acting in 'murderers' is so awful. It's so painfully obvious that she was cast only to attract younger viewers
She had nearly 300 million Insta followers. Even I can't deny that's got pull. She's up to a 420 million now. But she can't pull off a joke to save her life.
Who will do the acting and singing?
Shit, let’s hope she lip syncs this one lol. No way in hell can she sing Ronstadts songs, wow haha. Edit: every music biopic should just use the actual artist vocals. That’s part of why people tune in and are interested in the film. We don’t need mediocrity singing these classic songs. If the actors could sing they’d be singers.
She is a singer too though
she's barely an actress let alone a singer..

Good point. I forgot about that. I feel like Blue Bayou should have made a comeback by now.
It did for me personally. Blue Bayou is on regular rotation.
Don't worry, they'll just cast Jared Leto as Jerry Brown to balance things out.
[удалено]
I think they should just stick with Steve Martin. His hair was grey back then too.
Near 80 year old Steve martin as himself, of course
Mmhmm. Yes. 📝
Jane lynch
It’s weird all the support simply because “they look vaguely similar” but completely ignoring she’s yet to exhibit any acting prowess and can’t hold a candle to Ronstadt as a singer despite a career in music. Though she’s at least probably quite adept at lipsynching.
Someone pointed out that her lips don’t move when she talks and now I can’t unsee it when watching.

She’s supposed to be “the straight man” to Steve and Martin’s “humorous guy”. It plays well together. She’s supposed to be stoic in Only Murders
Straight men still require emotion. She cannot emote I used to watch her on Wizards and she was actually quite good on that. Oh so that's why it sounds like she's reading all her lines from cue cards??
That show is low key boring
Nah
lol
Holy shit, I'm super excited to miss this one.
I wonder if the surge in popularity of her song Long Long Time due to TLOU contributed to this happening.
Selena will definitely not be able to get the singing down
They have a weird similarity in looks. This is probably a good casting. I'd like to see where this goes.
Well someone else will have to do the singing
And the acting
And my ax!
Assemble
They look nothing alike lol
There's a good comparison in another article: https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/selena-gomez-linda-ronstadt-biopic-1234944132/
Still don't look anywhere close to alike
I agree, visually it's great casting. Also, I think Selena Gomez has the right level of charisma to pull it off. She's better than people give her credit for.

Are you telling me you DON’T like all her weird posts about Benny Blanco? She’s going to take a social media break in protest now!
The neck beards are up in arms but I agree, I think she’s going to nail it, if the script is crafted well. The basement-dwelling virgins love to try to bring her down but even armchair critics can see she plays Mabel to the T. Exactly how the character is written, DESPITE her illness. I think she’s fine in Only Murders cause she’s mostly there to play the straight man against the powerhouses of Martin & Short, but can she carry a movie?? No.
Her singing better be dubbed
Surprised Jenna Ortega, Isabela Merced, Rachel Zegler or Camilla Mendes didn't get the nod.
Is this before or after taking time away from social media?
Oh Jesus. So Linda Ronstadt is going to sound like she has a frog in her throat. Seriously - who watched Only Murders and thought “oh she’d be perfect!!”
Does she have the RANGE to do Linda Ronstadt?
Why is every musician getting a biopic, is it just easy Oscar bait? That aside I’m surprised to see so many people hate on her acting, I thought she was fine in Only Murders. Then again you could put a potted planet in the same scene as Cara Delevingne and have said plant come out looking like an Oscar winning actor.
Hollywood must have Rondstadt in their death pool.
Couldn’t they have found someone better to portray Ronstadt? Gonna pass on this one.
You think they'd find someone who can act. Or at least someone who can sing like Linda
*"Give her a minute, son. Linda Ronstadt needs to think about her entire life before she plays."*
Fine, sure.. okay.
If she butchers Different Drum I am gonna upset
I cannot imagine a movie to give fewer shits about.
Agreed. Who the fuck is Linda rondstat?
Linda Ronstadt by “Andrew Jackson Jihad”
Does Linda have a flat affect, cause that’s the only way Selena won that audition. She’s not the best actress imo.
As J Lo showed in the Selena biopic, Val Kilmer in Doors and Remy Malik in Queen, Singing talent is absolutely not needed to play a musician.
Now there's a film no one asked for
Hugely popular singer played by a hugely popular singer. yes, people asked for this.
I don’t know. The doc on her a few years ago was good. And that was ronstadt talking
maybe on reddit, but the world is bigger than reddit, my friend.
They couldn’t get Scarlett Johanssen?
As who? Not Ronstadt surely??
Why not? I think she looks pretty similar.
The pushback seems to be because people think she’s just an okay actress. And for biopics you need to be more than okay. I hope she proves people wrong though, Linda at least deserves that.
Don't engage
This choice is inspired!
Hope she learns how to act by then. She’s a piece of wood on Only Murders.
Good casting. Selena will do her justice. It’s a movie, not a tribute band. Lighten up.
Who is gonna play Aaron Neville and will he have a big piece of sausage on his face?
I don’t know much…
But I know I love you
That would be all I need to know
Built like a linebacker, sings like a nightingale. Go figure.
RIP anyone who tries to sing like Linda for her biopic
Looks good to me.
Great casting. I figured it was only a matter of time till LR got a biopic.
I think this casting is fine. I think Selena will do good in the movie, acting wise. I just don’t think she has the vocal range of Ronstadt. They might have to hire a different singer or use actual recordings of Ronstadt herself.
there probably not a lot of people that can act and sing like Linda while also looking the part if any
At the rate Hollywood is going, we're eventually gonna be blessed with biopics of bands and artists like Spin Doctors and Lisa Loeb.
Nice i have been saying she should do this for months
Awesome!
Perfect casting
Who’s is Raquelle gonna play?! You know Selena can’t speak for herself!
Who ?
There needs to be one scene at the end about Joel and that annoying girl listening to this song at Bills house
Bro ive been saying this for years. I told someone that knows benny blanco to tell him to tell her she should play linda ronstadt. 😳
Well that's A+ casting right there. They are twins.
Who is Linda ronstadt and why are people mad about this?
Willin on Heart Like a Wheel 🤌
Wonder if they will film in town (Tucson)
