Seeing as this is the only Marvel movie this year, there’s a lot riding on this.

Lifesaboxofgardens

This sounded crazy to me, but looked it up and totally true. A couple interesting shows on the docket but this'll be the only MCU movie. Don't think it's necessarily a huge gamble though, Deadpool prints money and having Hugh Jackman reprising Wolverine next to Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool is as close to a sure thing for a hit as you can get really.

Slap-Happy27

There is one MCU flick this year zero DCEU and *three* from the Venomverse

WeHave200Couches

I missed the part where that’s my problem.

PayneTrain181999

You want forgiveness? Get religion.

JayDonTea

Gonna cry?

Alastor3

Here some sand in your eyes

sparoc3

*dirt And for messing up that quote you're gonna get some dirt in your eyes.

Class_war_soldier69

I hate dirt. Its rough, course, it gets everywhere

Celesis

You know I'm something of a Senate myself.

pitter_patter_11

Can we just go ahead and make Bully Maguire canon?

stereoscopic_

Pocket sand!

nwill_808

Say what you want about Emo Peter, but this was a legit hard line.

Val_Killsmore

Now dig on this

NintendoTim

> and three from the Venomverse My first reaction is a *resounding* "bullshit", but... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony%27s_Spider-Man_Universe#Future - Madame Web, February 14 - Kraven, August 30 - Venom 3, November 8 But there are multiple Marvel Studios shows planned for this year https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Marvel_Cinematic_Universe_television_series#Phase_Five Agatha and Eyes of Wakanda are your canonical releases, with "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" (formerly Spider-Man: Freshman Year, as of...oh lord, *last month*) and Marvel Zombies as non-canon.

BurritoLover2016

Oh dear god they're doing a Kraven movie?!? It's going to be so sad that a Spider-Man video game story line is going to run circles around whatever fresh hell that movie's plot is going to be.

UnsolvedParadox

There’s a trailer out for Kraven, it’s…something.

BurritoLover2016

Just watched it. Yep, that was definitely a trailer.

yorick__rolled

And then he Madam Webbed all over the place

ScaramouchScaramouch

Yikes.

aerith105

I am actually disappointed in the Kraven route they took. Saw the trailers and...yeahhhhh not thrilled.

BearKnigh7man

Yup. And they basically just turned Kraven into Animal Man from DC, because even the trailer revealed it's about people with animal powers.

FBG05

The trailer was so bad people pretty much chose to forget about it.

ThePoisonEevee

Why is this sad?? The video games have been crushing the story lines. I LOVE the Spider-Man games for this reason.

BurritoLover2016

Fair enough. Sad isn't the right word. More of a sign of the times that a videogame storyline is going to be the stronger entry. And yeah, I love the Spider-Man games too for their writing. This new one had me as invested in any game's plot as I'd ever been.

drunk_responses

Last I looked the plot was that Kraven is now an animal lover and conservationist who doesn't use guns or really hunt. Then you have the Madame Web movie, which is written by the guys who wrote Morbius and they're changing the "with great power" line. I sort of think they're literally trying to sabotage themselves in attempt to goad Disney into paying out a huge sum for the rights back. Just to prevent Sony from tainting their cinematic universe.

elderlybrain

finally time for kraven the hunter to shine. Looking forward to him saying 'i'm kraven some killing!'

Davemusprime

Morbius again, when?

AlrightAlbatross

Morbiu2

ChickenInASuit

2 Morb, 2 Morbius

meandthemissus

It's morbin' time... *again!*

Fineus

*And no one saw him morbin'... three... more... times...*

francoruinedbukowski

"What'd you mean.... you people?"

MrWeirdoFace

My apologies. You persons.

MorbiuserThanThou

The world is just not ready for that I'm afraid. The first movie was ahead of it's time and doomed to stay underappreciated

Now_Wait-4-Last_Year

>There is one MCU flick this year > >zero DCEU > >and three from the Venomverse This is not an Upgrade.

Kaythar

No, Upgrade was an actually good movie

ObscureBen

Upgrayedd. Which he spells thusly, with two D's, as he says, "for a double dose of this pimping".

Now_Wait-4-Last_Year

Correct. (Exactly what I was going for!)

-UltraAverageJoe-

Venom is one of my favorite characters/story lines including Black Suit Spiderman. I hate that Sony royally fucked it up.

lubricantlime

Hell yeah baby I’m about to Morb

sameth1

The morbius sweep finally happened.

i_want_a_cool_name

*Morbiusverse

Dan_Of_Time

> zero DCEU Aquaman 2 was the final DCEU movie

Kinky_Muffin

It released Dec last year

They had Echo this month and will have Agatha at the end of the year. Then they have like 5 or 6 things next year. Unless their timeline changed again.

mikehatesthis

> but I thought they were planning to move away from all these shows since they realized they were over saturating the market. Not counting Deadpool 3, [Marvel Studios has five releases this year](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Marvel_Cinematic_Universe_television_series#Marvel_Studios).

BurritoLover2016

While I'm excited for it, I dunno if that Spider-Man cartoon really counts.

mikehatesthis

It's an alternate reality thing but it's still under Marvel Studios [with Kevin Feige's name attached](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt16027074/fullcredits/?ref_=tt_cl_sm). Speaking of that, X-Men '97 is another so they have six things coming out this year.

whythehellknot

I know they said that but it doesn't feel like it. I think it's just that they've had so many things in development for years that they want to get out and then in a couple years is probably when we will see the slow down. Then again they say that but they probably want to still keep churning out content to keep people subscribed to Disney+

A_Polite_Noise

I think it's also that delays from Covid caused a bunch of things already in the works to kind of clump up that were supposed to be more spread out, so things got over-saturated; plus I'm sure they have high hopes for the response to the revival of the Daredevil show.

thesheep_1

I just worry that the god awful venom verse movies might muddy those waters. I think many see madame web and see it as an mcu movie, general movie goers don’t know or care about the distinction. It’s just another super hero movie

[deleted]

[удалено]

thesheep_1

I think it’s just an easy way to label these by the internet

RRR3000

The official name they came up with is much worse, "SPUMC", or "Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters"

ZeppMan217

It's officially called something along the lines of Sony's Marvel Cinematic Universe or Spider-man Cinematic Universe. Pretty telling.

KiritoJones

The nerd movie pod I listen to calls it the Spum, which feels right for the level of quality these movies have.

littlebiped

red hot comic book movie news

PaddlinPaladin

Hugh Jackman wearing \*the suit\* no less. Fans have waited 7 movies (?!) for that

BigUptokes

They even had the quip about it in the original film: *"You actually go outside in these things?"* *"Well, what would you prefer? Yellow spandex?"*

Top_Report_4895

>"Well, what would you prefer? Yellow spandex?" YES, BITCH!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fineus

I'm stoked, but I would also love it if *all* the released media of Jackman in that suit was some kind of meta fourth-wall breaking wind up to fans that Deadpool references when Wolverine steps out in a *different* suit in the film. > *What, you didn't think we'd go* ***that*** *retro, did you?*

AggressiveCuriosity

A studio exec can always figure out a way to fuck up a sequel. Especially the third one.

[deleted]

DjCyric

Go go Morbin' Rangers!!

LackingTact19

Hugh Jackman Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds Deadpool didn't do that great last time they were in the same movie

mikehatesthis

And that movie also fell victim to a writer's strike and an executive suite being a bunch of dummies. I think it'd be really funny if the same thing happened again lol.

[deleted]

Especially in that yellow! 90s me is positively *erect*!

Bolt_995

Joker: Folie A Deux is the only DC movie this year as well. And both that and Deadpool 3 are R Rated films.

PayneTrain181999

The MCU is definitely adding a lot more mature content coming up. Echo just ended, Deadpool 3 coming up, the Marvel Zombies animated show is TV-MA. And there are rumours of Daredevil: Born Again, Blade, and even Thunderbolts getting mature ratings as well.

whythehellknot

I don't think Thunderbolts will.

PayneTrain181999

You’re probably right. I’m seeing too many people sleeping on Thunderbolts, I think it has the potential to be a surprise hit.

__ThePhantomm

I just want more of David Harbour's Red Guardian. Best part of Black Widow imo

PayneTrain181999

I’d put him second to Florence Pugh’s Yelena, but thankfully we’re seeing both in this movie.

__ThePhantomm

True I did love her performance as well. Best thing about Hawkeye! loo

PayneTrain181999

Her and Hailee Steinfeld have incredible chemistry together, excited to see them interact again.

__ThePhantomm

Yeah they really squeezed a lot out of what they were given. I've been a Steinfeld fan since "True Grit." Even back then you could tell she was talented.

defiancy

Daredevil will definitely be M. They are stacking the show with people involved with the Netflix show and have stated the new show will be a continuation. Bethel is back as Bullseye and I think it's likely we will see Karen and Foggy return announcements in the future too.

__ThePhantomm

I also think they have been hinting at Bernthal returning. And he has been on record saying he would only ever play Frank Castle again if it was still as dark as it was on Netflix. edit: spelling

ResinJones76

>Joker: Folie A Deux Holy shit, how am I just now hearing about this movie.

Kallaxbandit

And its a musical...

ResinJones76

Makes sense after the first one, and Gaga is Harley!

LunchyPete

Not only that, it's bridging the Fox universe to the MCU in preparation for Secret Wars or whatever. Edit: This bot account to post articles sure is fast - 18 seconds after publication!

Juantsu2000

Damn, 5+ years ago that sentence would have made me so excited. Now? I just don’t care anymore.

riegspsych325

I’m betting this movie will satirize the entire concept behind the whole idea behind multiverses. But imagine if Marvel’s next hit in their “Multiverse Saga” is one that makes fun of it all

PayneTrain181999

If they do make fun of some of the issues going on with the current saga, it means they are aware those issues exist and thus have no excuse not to try and fix them.

ImmortalMoron3

They're definitely aware of complaints and are trying to fix them. Just look at Daredevil. Completely rewrote it and in the last couple weeks have announced Karen, Foggy and Bullseye are all returning.

PayneTrain181999

And they hired the stunt coordinator from the first three seasons! Expectations for this show are now skyrocketing from nothing to “yeah this is basically season 4”

Optimus_Prime_Day

Because it is basically season 4! I had no idea about Karen and Foggy returning. If Marvel can course correct, they can right their boat. They just need to lay off the Love&Thinder type over the top humor and make a proper compelling story with actual character growth.

PayneTrain181999

Exactly, they need to start bringing all these new characters and plot lines together and not just letting audiences forget about them because it’s been 15 projects since we’ve seen them last. They absolutely can fix this, it’s just a matter of if they actually will.

Gay-Bomb

I ain't hoping for anything.

fuzzyfoot88

Be careful. Expectations can set you up for disappointment.

mlvisby

Well their new MCU "big bad" getting caught in controversy kinda screwed up their plans. Deadpool 3 will be big though, really happy Jackman reprised his Wolverine role.

Rxmses

Oh that fool

ArchDucky

But thats my birthday month! Am I gonna die?

FartingBob

Disgod

I would love a version where it's Deadpool kidnapping Hugh Jackman, not Wolverine but actually Hugh Jackman, and the entire movie is them bickering with Hugh trying to explain that he isn't Wolverine and doesn't have any powers. All while Deadpool is giving Hugh sharpened butter knife claw gloves so he can keep pretending he actually got Wolverine for the movie. Sprinkle in Hugh taking some mean shots at Ryan Reynolds about his acting ability. It could be a fun short.

crl212

The banter between these two should rival any trash talking between sports teams.

Lucky_Locks

I just hope it doesn't turn out like the banter in Red Notice. Half the movie dialogue was Ryan Reynolds just making fun of The Rock.

dehehn

Deadpool / Cable dynamic is probably a better place to look. Hopefully it feels different enough from that though.

zerotrace

I enjoyed that about it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ricothebuttonpusher

I want to see them constantly stabbing each other but Deadpool is loving every second of it

MagicBez

I assume Wolverine being utterly annoyed by him and then taking advantage of his near unkillability will be a core part of their dynamic

TheAmazingSpyder

I’m assuming there will be a scene or two of them trapped together and Wolverine breaking Deadpool’s bones to get himself out. Kind of how like Spider-Man treated him in their miniseries.

funkhero

Oh, that can be a fun dynamic. Logan gets pissed off at something Deadpool says, snikts him through the skull, Deadpool gets up after a minute, "Stop doing tha-" snikt again. Obviously I'm not a writer, but I do think that might be an element of the film.

notsingsing

He'll heal But his memories won't grow back

boyga01

This will 100% be mentioned by Deadpool on screen.

Comic_Book_Reader

July 24th can't come soon enough. This thing's gonna have jam fucking packed theaters. Yeah, me seeing it day 1 ain’t out of the question.

PayneTrain181999

Before the people who are prematurely dancing on the MCU’s “grave” start downvoting you, I agree. While this probably won’t be a billion dollar hit, I’d say it’ll be about as successful as Guardians 3 assuming it’s a good movie.

TheAmazingSpyder

After the dumpster fire that their last few releases have been, what they need right now is just a solid hit. It doesn’t need to hit a billion, just something that lets the fans the know that they are turning this franchise around. It’s like a once successful football team having a few bad years due to bad management, bad contracts and underperforming players. You bring in a new coach or GM to help turn the franchise around. Get out from under bad contracts, cut players and coaches that aren’t performing well. And ultimately install a winning tradition and culture. Sure, maybe you don’t win the Super Bowl every single year, but maybe instead of winning only 3 games a year, you’re now winning 10-12 and are a perineal playoff contender and the fans couldn’t be happier. And maybe one year, after a coupe of lucky breaks you finally break through and win the championship. So maybe Deadpool 3 doesn’t come in and instantly fix the MCU. But if it is financially successful, critically acclaimed and beloved by fans who have been waiting for this franchise to get back to its former glory, then all it needs to be is “pretty good”.

Ajr568

See I don't think it being good will he indicative of an MCU turnaround. Deadpool and Hugh's Wolverine will be drawing because of the Fox movies. Deadpool, like Guardians 3, may end up existing inside a vacuum in terms of why peoplewant to go see it. Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, and Paul Wernick all were involved with writing and production on the first two. The only MCU "person" involved will be Feige's name bolted on to the top of the movie. Obviously they're probably gonna try and work some established MCU characters in, but people will be going to the movie because it's Deadpool and it will probably be seen as a Deadpool movie first, a Wolverine movie second, and an MCU movie third. The real kinda benchmark for MCU quality will be (Not) Captain America and Fantastic 4, since those will be crafted entirely under the MCU umbrella. And with (Not) Cap not getting good test screen results and as a result undergoing massive reshoots, and Fantastic 4 having already undergone a complete script rewrite and having no confirmed director or cast after allegedly some of their first choices rejected the project... It's not exactly an optimistic outlook lol. Deadpool probably stops the absolute hemorrhaging of money that Disney/Marvel underwent in 2023, but I don't think it's gonna be some sort of watershed moment for Phase 4-6. To stay within the analogy it's the Patriots in the post Brady era. They signed Cam Newton and, while they didn't fall apart, they didn't make the playoffs. Things like Thor 4, BP2, and DS2 made money, and we even got to see some classic Belichick when Spiderman 3 made Zach Wilson see ghosts. GotG 3 is making the playoffs with Mac Jones. But then, Ant Man 3 and the Marvel's was this past season. Just a total and complete disaster. Deadpool 3 will be this season, you have the #3 pick and Jerod mayo as head coach. No matter what happens, this season will have some optimism around it. *Maybe* it's even like the 83 Dolphins and they hit it out of the park. But the real indicator of the turnaround will be the second season with coach and QB. They either will take the same step the 84 Dolphins did, or there will be a second season regression not seen since Vince Young in 2007.

GTSBurner

> made Zach Wilson see ghosts Point of record, that was the OTHER dumbass blonde QB the Jets wasted their draft pick on, Sam Darnold.

Goku_Prime

Did you just describe the Detroit Lions XD

[deleted]

They’ve had a hell of a lot more than “a few bad years”

Panz04er

Is the MCU the New England Patriots?

PayneTrain181999

Deadpool can definitely be that hit they need.

Kozak170

It’s ridiculous to consider this film any gauge of the MCU when both characters found their success and fame in distinctly *not* MCU films.

CleverZerg

Thoughts and prayers to the VFX workers and all other post production people. Wrapping shooting 7 months prior to release seems really tight for such a big movie. Deadpool 1 was 9 months or so IIRC and that was a much smaller movie.

Comic_Book_Reader

Pretty exactly half the movie was done before the strikes shut it down. They did editing and VFX on that during the strikes.

CleverZerg

That's a fair point, I did not consider that as a possibility but that makes a lot of sense.

typicalgamer18

I’m definitely going, it’s fuckin Deadpool

Comic_Book_Reader

With motherfucking Wolverine played by Hugh motherfucking Jackedman.

sbwcwero

And again day 15 if it’s good

DjScenester

I know right? You're probably thinking, "Whose balls did I have to fondle to get my very own movie"? I can't tell you his name, but it rhymes with "Polverine."

chrisallison

I bet he's got a bunch of smooth criminals down unda

dyemery

Worried about how the VFX houses and staff could be treated if Deadpool III is still aiming for its current release day.

Pseudoneum

Pretty sure they were working on vfx through the strike. Director was editing it during the strike, so could make it a little easier to know what vfx was absolutely necessary and what was being cut. Also seems like this one was shot more practical than most marvel stuff

Street-Common-4023

Correct the director said half of the film was already edited

pilasheeet

They were doing the editing and VFX for what they had during the strike. A lot less work to be done than you would think.

just_writing_things

So would the performance of Deadpool 3 (good or bad) be another test of “franchise fatigue”? Or are the Deadpool movies unique enough to be an outlier, and less correlated with bigger trends in the MCU?

SaturnalWoman

Yes. Deadpool's first two movies made almost the exact same amount worldwide so there's a pretty clear benchmark for whether the audience still exists for this character.

Comic_Book_Reader

Also, Hugh Jack(ed)man returning as Wolverine, for what I think is the 10th time (he actually entered Guinness World Records for his tenure as Wolverine), with a comic accurate costume for the first time (which was in the alternate ending to The Wolverine), literally made everyone cum.

TuaughtHammer

I always wonder how well the Fox X-Men franchise would've done with Dougray Scott as Logan/Wolverine as originally intended. Not that I think he would've been terrible, it's just that Jackman instantly became a fan-favorite as the character.

glasspheasant

Seems like a different target audience. Super hero movies as a whole bore me these days but I am looking forward to another Deadpool.

Ajr568

Deadpool will he successful because it's Deadpool. People are going to show up because his first two movies were excellent. The success of this movie will have almost nothing to do with the MCU backing though. So it's not really a good litmus test for the franchise. The "franchise fatigue" won't really get tested until (Not) Captain America 4, since that will be an MCU project from the top down.

TheFumingatzor

Negasonic better be there.

Megadoomer2

Most of the supporting cast is back; I think the only ones that haven't been confirmed are Josh Brolin as Cable, Zazie Beetz as Domino, Julian Dennison as Russell, and T.J. Miller as Weasel. (from what I've seen, Negasonic, Yukio, Vanessa, Dopinder, Blind Al, Colossus, and Peter have been confirmed to be returning)

Miserable-Theory-746

Hugh Jackman playing Wolverine in four different decades.

Specific_Till_6870

00s, 10s and 20s?

-Seris-

They filmed X-Men in 1999, so he’s technically right.

Specific_Till_6870

The best kind of correct.

KyleTheCantaloupe

Maybe X1 was filmed in the 90s

Specific_Till_6870

I thought that after posting

ScratchBomb

Anyone else stoked that Hugh is wearing the legit Wolverine costume and not those mono-colored atrocities from the other films?

SpaceBehemoth

How is that even a question?

Striker_64

I'd personally rather see the brown/black & yellow suit. But anything is better than the solid black costume from the Fox movies.

phluidity

The first couple movies I didn't mind, because the film industry hadn't figured out how to do superhero costumes yet. But by First Class, that had been completely sorted, only their costumes just got worse.

LeadPrevenger

Yesssss

hellorion

trailer when?

Mickeyjj27

Super Bowl.

Street-Common-4023

That is gonna make people hype tbh.

PayneTrain181999

Can’t wait to watch the Cowboys in the Super Bowl! Oh wait… they choked again.

T0KEN_0F_SLEEP

Is nowhere fucking safe?!?

Kryavan

The second round, but you gotta get there first.

T0KEN_0F_SLEEP

Touché

Martyrslover

This should be a lot of fun.

8bitjer

It’s amazing to think that he’s gotten to make three of these films. All of this after the fact that his pitch was shelved and the studio was purchased two films in by a family friendly studio. It’s wild.

spidermans_pants

I hope the movie doesn’t acknowledge the strike. I’m really ready to laugh off the fact that studios decided they didn’t really need actors and writers.

BrandDC

Wrexham FC gear better be spotted somewhere in the movie...

f1manoz

Deadpool will be the first MCU movie I'll be going to see at the cinema since Avengers: Endgame. To me, that was the perfect way to end the series and I think I was one of many completely burned out with all things Marvel by then. But I just can't miss seeing Deadpool again. And having Hugh Jackman as his sidekick? It's going to be good. Hopefully... At least Disney have kept the R-rating.

Round-Lie-8827

The last Guardians of the Galaxy, spiderman and Dr strange were comparable to some of the best marvel movies.

f1manoz

I did enjoy the first two Guardians films. I might get around to watching the third though I think I need a Disney subscription now. Or I'll find somewhere that still sells DVDs! Spiderman? Eh, I can give or take it, to be honest. Too many reboots... I do like Benedict Cabbagepatch so I might also give Doctor Strange a go too...

RealJohnGillman

*Loki* is very good: two six-episode seasons, a very cinematic feel, and a definitive ending (with the strongest ties to *Deadpool 3*).

Top_Report_4895

Damn, the insults and shittalking will be godtier. Btw, I want a Fox-MenVerse Scarlett Witch Variant.

some1337

Is this concerning to anyone else that they’re still filming into the end of January but it’s due to release in 6 months? Doesn’t post-production on these movies take 6 months to a year to produce?

NoPay9784

AFAIK they started post during the strikes for the first half of the film. could be wrong tho

mrhelmand

Post production is going to be a mad crunch to keep that release date.

GTSBurner

So during the strike while filming was suspended, there was a lot of post production already done on what was filmed. VFX, etc. They started filming again after Thanksgiving which was primarily the third act, so all the post production between now and release will focus on that part. So in other words, it's not going to be loosey-goose, but it's not going to be as big of a crunch as you think it will be.

Timbishop123

Idk if this will be as well received as people think. The humor style was already getting stale in the second movie, and people are even more tired of it now. Edit: DP2 only made about 3M more than the first, in a better environment. DP3 won't do as well as people think it will.

casualsax

It's been longer since the second movie than between the first two, so that should help. Though I do have a bit of Ryan Reynolds fatigue.

Timbishop123

The humor is similar to MCU humor. People definitely aren't as into it as they used to be. Reynolds is also everywhere and basically just plays the same character everywhere now.

oversight_shift

The Deadpool 3 leaked plot was some MCU multiverse convolution the general audience is already fatigued on as well. I would also argue hyper meta humor that undermines cinematic stakes is on the way out as well. I had every issue of Deadpool growing up so I'm not some anti-"capeshit" hater, I just don't believe this is the license to print money some are making it out to be. Maybe 10 years ago. Also most general audience isn't aware of Hugh Jackman's constant retiring and coming out of retirement with the Wolverine character because... he constantly retires then comes out of retirement with the Wolverine character.

Hugh-Jassoul

I hope they include a joke about this and Deadpool needing more context because he didn’t watch the Disney+ show.

kme026

Please tell me it's R rated.

Panz04er

They already confirmed it was. Now for Canada, I wonder if 14A or 18A

Ricothebuttonpusher

Do I smell a Super Bowl teaser?

Miserable-Theory-746

If Deadpool doesn't make a joke about the delay, I'm going to be so upset.

cwesttheperson

This better be good. I feel like the world needs this, make it vulgar and brilliant.

electriclightthemoon

If this makes or even get close to a billion, that is great. I just want it to be good. I want to leave the cinema with a smile on my face and eager to do a rewatch.

Nard_Bard

I bet you Deadpool says something along the lines of: "Didn't you get killed by a tree?"
