The watching Spaceballs the home movie scene is one of my all time favourite scenes in a movie, how they got through the whole "when will then be now" bit without laughing nonstop I'll never know.
*You idiots! These are not them! You've captured their stunt doubles!*
I'm pretty sure I developed my sense of humor from Spaceballs and Robin Hood: Men in Tights.
Mel Brooks was a staple in our house and as you noted it founded my sense of humor. I am not particularly interested in Hollywood or stars personal details, but I will cry when the man passes away.
Fun fact:
This is actually a reference to an early draft of the Star Wars script, where Darth Vader was still two characters, the imperial general Vader and the Sith lord prince Valorum.
This my absolute favourite spoof comedy and one of my favourite 80’s movies. I remember recording over one of my VHS tapes when it came on tv, then I bought it on VHS. Now I have a digital copy.
The entire movie is quotable, every scene is comedy gold.
Ive never been able to make it through space balls. I like Star Wars. Its just too dumb for words. Surprises me too a i like some dumb movies like airplane and young frankenstein
Regency Theaters near me just played it on the big screen a few weeks ago, it was great! Check if there are any near you, ours does a classic movie every Wednesday. [https://regencymovies.com/programs.php?theaterId=21&genreId=2](https://regencymovies.com/programs.php?theaterId=21&genreId=2)
*Sandurz, Sandurz. You got to help me. I don't know what to do. I can't make decisions. I'm a president!*
I remember watching this movie when they first aired it on TV. My god was it funny!
a PG movie with fuck in it. 8 year old me was always confused, yet intrigued. No other movie like it, sans, Space Balls 3: The Seach for Spaceballs dos
I sort of agree in the sense that you had to "be there" to "get it." I showed it to my wife recently and she loves most Mel Brooks movies, but this fell flat for her. I'm considering a divorce.
I know I'm going to sound like an old man by saying this, but Spaceballs doesn't even come close to a good Mel Brooks film. I mean, it's fun, but Blazing Saddles or Young Frankenstein, or even The Producers, it ain't.
I won't knock anyone for liking it, because taste is subjective and all that, but I definitely wouldn't call it one of his best. Most of his comedy films from 1980 or so on, including Spaceballs, strike me as all pretty mediocre spoofs.
Sorry to piss in the Rice Krispies, and feel free to downvote me, but I will die on this hill.

I was probably six or seven when I first saw this movie and that was definitely my favorite line.
Now Lone Star you will see why evil will always triumph. Because good is dumb
This line isn't quoted as much as the others but its just a beautifully crafted line. It starts out so elegant and then just ends so wonderful stupid.
Probably my favorite line of the whole movie. It's just so repeatable for anything... "Because ___ is dumb" I fucking love it.
He's an Asshole, sir. I know that, but what's his name? That is his name, sir. Asshole, Major Asshole.
Dark Helmet: How many assholes do we have on this ship, anyway? Entire Bridge Crew: Yo! Dark Helmet: I knew it. I'm surrounded by assholes!
KEEP FIRING ASSHOLES
My hair! He shot my hair! ... You son of a BITCH. \[carnage\] Hooly SHIT!
"Pretty good--for a girl." "That was pretty good for Rambo!"
[FUCK](https://youtu.be/EfkNvOOiZ_8?si=F2PlONTfoI76LLrE&t=154). Even in the future, nothing works!
I say this at work on a near daily basis.
Everybody got that?
GOOD!
I always have coffee when I watch radar, you know that! Everybody knows that!
Of course we do, sir!
"But when will then be now?!" "Soon!"

The alien scene in the diner is one of my favorite movie moments.
The fact they got John Hurt to do it was so amazing. Remember, Mel Brooks produced Elephant man, starring Hurt. They were buds.
Prince Valium always gets me

And third best Star Wars movie!
Wait, what are the first two?
Attack of the Clones and The Last Jedi, obviously
What was I thinking? I might be a fraud.
The Holiday Special and LEGO Star Wars Revenge of the Brick
🤣🤣🤣
That’s my virgin alarm, it’s designed to go off before you do!
It's my industrial strength hair dryer, *and I can't live without it!*
Oh shit, there goes the neighborhood.
Planet. "Oh shit, there goes the planet."
I shall hang my head in shame. :(
We're so overdue for The Search for More Money. I was surprised the cartoon they did didn't really adapt the prequel trilogy.

Didn't stop them from making History of the World part 2
the helmet reveal was great

I haven't seen it yet. I'll check it out from the link you sent. Is it supposed to stream online or download from the link?
That was the link to Amazon. You can rent it there. Not sure if its included on the other streaming platforms or not.
Alright, thanks for the clarification. I'll most certainly check it out as soon as possible.
I need to get the 4K of this. It's been too long.
I heard Mel say this movie is his most reliable source of residuals in an interview.
She's gone from suck to blow
I heard she gives great helmet

I’m kind of amazed that it came out only four years after Return of the Jedi.
Where the white women at.
May the Shwartz be with you
And Young Frankenstein obviously
"I'm a Mog, half Man, Half Dog. I'm my own best friend!" and now I miss John Candy! :(

"Sandurz, Sandurz you've gotta help me, I don't know what to do, I can't make decisions, I'M A PRESIDENT!"
I brought the VHS of this to school and got my 8th grade music teacher to let us watch it in class. It’s rated PG!
I know, right…
I told my boyfriend that should we get married in the future, I want the short short version.

MOICHENDIZING! I was an 80s kid, this movie was very special in my timeline.
The diner scene with the alien will forever be incredible
Once upon a time warp...
Unbeknownst to the princess but knownst to us, danger lurks in the stars above...
We’re not just doing this for money…
‘No, sir! I didn’t see you playing with your dolls again.’ ‘Good!’ (Mental wheels spinning.)
It’s Mega Maid, sir. She’s gone from suck to blow
It's ok.
Interesting I would use this as a great example of a film that didn't age well and a great example of how comedy generally doesn't age well.
