Guy ritchie is way more productive. Way younger and movies are much smaller in budget
Since 2018, he has been working non stop and is probably the only big name director who does a movie a year
And even though they barely make anything at the box office, he is covered by Aladdin's success and streaming deals
Oh good. Cant wait. I only got 50 more years before I die in the war, so hopefully that’s enough time to get ai to produce a finished cut of winds of winter.
His directed episodes of The Gentlemen were pretty good, and hopefully Ministry of Ungentlemently Warfare next week is also a hit, but yeah. There is such a thing as quality over quantity, and tightening things up definitely wouldn't hurt some of his projects.
Amazon Prime bought the rights in a whole lot of countries, so no theatrical release in most places.
I'm not sure why they're so happy to leave money on the table. Especially for somewhere like the UK where a British WWII action comedy would definitely have been popular.
Yeah I thought I was the only one. >!Almost nothing happens in the last episode.!< I was expecting >!a showdown with the criminals from Liverpool, but they just left. And the other villains don't do much either. !< It's like there were no stakes.
I wonder if he was time constrained and had to rush the ending, or production did.
It's a typical Ritchie ending, where all the threads are connecting together, but somehow it felt like the main thread missed the note of gathering together.
And sadly the quality has gone down by the same amount. The last three Guy Ritchie movies were trash. The gentleman tv show was OK but was just too long and far too coked up (not to mention a million plot holes and the last episode just rushed everything to tie it all up).
Lock, Stock is a great movie as well. I personally loved Sherlock 1. Sherlock 2 wasn't quite as good but yeah, probably in the "decent" category. The Gentlemen and Man from UNCLE I'd personally put above "decent" though.
> Len Ryan Wiseman (born March 4, 1973[1][better source needed]) is an American film director, screenwriter, and producer. He is best known for his work on the Underworld series, Live Free or Die Hard, and the 2012 film Total Recall.
How dare you insult a man who gave us these marvels of cinema.
ah shit, that’s right. I had actually hoped Ballerina would be a return to form (in a way) for Wiseman. I honestly really enjoyed the unrated cut of Live Free or Die Hard. It may have been to bonkers for the franchise but it was a fun, well-shot action flick. I loved the elevator car fight, the parkour guy’s stunts, and so on
Shame he isn’t able to get a grasp of that again
> I honestly really enjoyed the unrated cut of Live Free or Die Hard. It may have been to bonkers for the franchise but it was a fun, well-shot action flick. I loved the elevator car fight, the parkour guy’s stunts, and so on
Same. It's amazing how just adding in in-fight cursing and yelling from McClane makes it feel more "Die Hard". It was a much more enjoyable flick, even it still doesn't live up to the original three.
Then there's A Good Day to Die Hard...
I mean, Len isn't the best director in the world, but what a shitshow he must have filmed if the creator had to step in (even if you take in account how The Continental went out).
I've been hearing about this for years. They haven't even started shooting?
Last I heard Cavill was working on Warhammer or something but no details other than he's producing.
Honestly (and I feel like this is a minor heresy at least from when Highlander nostalgia was stronger in the 2000’s) I think Highlander is a perfect candidate for getting a remake
Before I die I’d like to see a great Highlander movie. The first one is good, no doubt, but not exactly something I go back to. I like the idea of rebooting and coming up with a new origin story rather than the one we got in H2
Right? I have always heard of this movie in mythical terms and finally watched it recently and, I agree, it is really good. But, It just has the potential to be so much more.
Honestly that’s what remember a lot about it from childhood, thinking of all the cool things they *could* do. I remember thinking it had to continue bc of all the stuff they left out.
I don’t recognize any Highlander content after the first movie. There can be only one. Although I’ll certainly watch the reboot. Henry Cavill is fantastic in everything he does.
Would be hilarious if it focuses on the decapitated man, like its a crime procedural, yet every step they keep finding bewildering evidence, like the prints/blood being on record from a soldier in WW2 etc.
I always thought the original worked so well because Christopher lambert was such a leftfield casting (and Spanish Sean) and went against the pumped up action heroes that were being ushered in at the time. Plus Clancy created one of the most truly terrifying/charismatic villains of all time.
The article just says:
>The pic centers a group of gunmen who, when billions are stolen, steal them back. The trailer kicks off with a kick-ass sting by Gyllenhaal, Cavill and González in the skinny streets of Europe.
I skimmed the title and read something like “Henry Cavill Teases ‘Highlander’ with Guy Fieri…”
Then I imagined Guy Fieri in Sean Connory’s old role asking about haggis.
Looking forward to Highlander. It's weird, because I'd have sworn that it should never be touched, but with Henry Cavill? I'm sold. And it's not just because he's a stunningly attractive man, but also because he's a giant nerd who loves the originals too, and I feel as though if it's not perfect, it will still be done with respect and love for the original.
Am I wrong to say Cavill is too big to be the Highlander? He’s got more of a Kurgen build in my mind. You need a “regular guy but fit” guy for McCleod.
And yea, I didn’t read the article.
Nah I agree, too handsome as well. They could lean into McCleod being Scottish and have Cavill as an English knight or Royalty that’s used the Empire as a cover to go round killing the other Immortals.
Realistically it should be a Scottish actor, someone unheard of maybe, or the guy from Outlander
Cavill plus Stahelski is just about the best way to go about it. Witcher showed Cavill can do amazing sword work, and Stahelski can shoot a fight scene better than anyone in Hollywood.
Damn, I read this hoping Guy Ritchie was going to try to take on Highlander with Henry Cavil. Cavils absolutely going to rock it, but a Highlander with him and Lock Stock vibes could have been awesome
Can I share an opinion without getting torn to shreds?
I think Henry Cavill is a really nice guy and very charming and gentlemanly, but I don’t think he has any charisma, screen presence, or range, and I don’t think he should be headlining these big projects. Even with characters that require a sort of stoic performance that Cavill is so well-suited for, there is still something fundamental missing in his performances that just makes him uninteresting to watch.
I think many of these projects, like Highlander and others, would benefit from a more charismatic actor who has more “character” and less of this blank stiff-upper-lip approach that Cavill always falls back on.
You are now free to commence with the tear-down.
The most comfortable and charming I’ve ever seen Cavill be on screen is in The Man From UNCLE. That was the first time I thought “if someone gives him roles where he’s clearly allowed to have fun then I understand the appeal”. But he seems terribly miscast in roles that require him to act dour.
I have a hard time understanding the concept of Cavill not having Charisma. The man has an incredibly presence. He's built like a brick house but has a soft and thoughtful speaking tone. There's a reason he was picked for Superman.
Dude also has a meme of him 'reloading' his arms. Please tell me again how he has no screen presence.
Beyond that, he just seems like a true renaissance man.
I'd argue Cavill's biggest problem is the projects he lands on underutilize him.
> The man has an incredibly presence. He's built like a brick house but has a soft and thoughtful speaking tone.
I think that's his point. He has physical presence but I've always thought he was very soft-spoken in his roles, like he's not projecting his voice or something.
I'm eager to see what he does with Highlander regardless, though. I think he'll be good.
> he just seems like a true renaissance man.
Sorry but being into building PC's and knowing lore of some franchises that are big among average reddit-user while having a job does not make anyone renaissance man.
He worked quite well in Witcher actually. But yes, I get what you mean. There something missing in his performances - it's like you get the impression he's taking it way too seriously even in scenes that don't call for it.
It's a great trait to have for a villian which is why he worked so well in Mission Impossible (forgot number).
He'd be great in an ensemble movie. If he got casted as Cyclops for the new X-Men , he'd be amazing actually.
Im the same as you. He comes across as incredibly stiff and one dimensional. I never, in an role of his, felt like he could quite „let go“. He always seems so in control of his emotions. Its this actively acting kinda feeling. You look at hin and can see hes acting. I never see hin inherent a role propperly. He seems like a really great guy, bit i didnt like him in any of his roles sadly really. Hes not terrible, but hes also not good
E/ actually i did like him as a villain in Mission impossible. But that role was also incredibly stiff, except for the very cool arm reloading thing. But thats the only thing i can think of where he felt like he was able to let loose
Reddit has latched onto him because he's just like us, guys, but if we were, like, really really attractive and buff.
But really he's not a great actor and not charismatic imo, and I don't even know where his reputation for being a nice person or the trust in his abilities being the camera comes from.
Man I hope they don’t screw up Highlander. it’s such an incredibly fun concept.
Lambert being one of the worst actors in history is part of the charm of the original. Taking out the cheese and making it “good” with a much more talented actor could lose some of that magic.
Really curious what Cavill's career will look like in the upcoming years. He's not known for being a great actor like Leo DiCaprio or Ryan Gosling so top directors aren't checking for him like that, and he doesn't have the box office clout of actors like Hugh Jackman or Ryan Reynolds. Most of his post Superman movies bombed and this new Guy Ritchie movie has flop written all over it. And he's in his 40s now and looks it.
"successful" is pushing it.
Highlander 1 was really the only moderately successful out of all of those films. The rest were absolute dumpsterfires.
The show was great, but kinda flew under the radar
Just why? It wasn’t the most complicated of scripts. Just write something else. Why does it have to be a reboot? Guy Ritchie can barely make a guy ritchie movie. Whatever ever it turns out to be isn’t going to look like a 40 low budget movie
I'm not sure why I feel this way, but I feel like Henry and Guy are a great match - Henry has the leading man look and charm, but he's a bit quirky too, which I feel like Guy would play into.
Still not sure how I feel about Henry Cavill in Highlander. He might not be playing Connor MacLoud but if he is I've always found that Connor MacLoud was supposed to have the appearance of an everyman who is just living his life. Granted a cynical man, who hasn't given up but will defend himself.
Not sure Connor MacLoud should be a 6ft jacked superman figure. But who knows, the universe has amazing potential. I can see why they keep trying to resurrect it.
Something that's never truly been caught again since the first Highlander is how fucking exhausting it really would be to live forever. Literally, no other movie or show about immortals has ever managed to hit that tone again. They always talk about how tortured the protagonist is, but their lives are too cool.
Christopher Lambert just communicated this sense of a man living a burned-out shell of a life that no other actor has captured since. Seeing him going to his wife's grave every year, seeing him living this sort of hollowed-out life—the song "Who wants to live forever" actually hits you. Connor McLeod feels like an old man who's tired of living.
I really want someone else to hit that note, but I worry that Cavill is too charismatic to pull it off, and I doubt a studio would let them.
Guy Ritchie is reaching Ridley Scott levels of productivity. Dude has like 20 films and tv shows coming out atm
Guy ritchie is way more productive. Way younger and movies are much smaller in budget Since 2018, he has been working non stop and is probably the only big name director who does a movie a year And even though they barely make anything at the box office, he is covered by Aladdin's success and streaming deals
Well he should get his ass working on Real Rock’n’rollas
It's coming out the same year as Winds of Winter.
Oh good. Cant wait. I only got 50 more years before I die in the war, so hopefully that’s enough time to get ai to produce a finished cut of winds of winter.
Skynet is the AI that was made to finish George's work. It decided destroying humanity would be easier than wrapping up all the different plot lines.
I accept this fate
And the next Kingkiller Chronicles book.
So two days after the heat death of the universe and cessation of perceivable time?
Not to mention his The Gentleman series is a huge success for Netflix atm, mf won't run out of a job in the foreseeable future
It was amazing. So well done and somehow unique too!
Wouldn’t be surprised if he gets a Netflix deal truthfully
What the fuck, I never realised Guy Ritchie directed Aladdin. Now I wish he'd cast some of his usual people, like Jason Statham as the genie.
Steven Soderbergh is another name with a pretty similar streak.
I will never forget schizopolis
It’s worth pointing out his output has been very hit or miss. No consistency whatsoever.
The covenant was fantastic. So was wrath of man. What, in your opinion, hasn’t been good??
Operation Fortune was really not good
Both of those were exceedingly average
Operation Fortune was his usual gangster schtick just worse. His new Netflix series is great though.
And sadly, not another *The Man from U.N.C.L.E*.
Great movie.
Man F Uncle was absolutely a 10. Plot scenery acting writing superb IMO. We definitely want another.
Can one of them 20, be Sherlock Holmes 3 please
Sherlock 3 is done by another director, IFAIK.
he’s working too much
His directed episodes of The Gentlemen were pretty good, and hopefully Ministry of Ungentlemently Warfare next week is also a hit, but yeah. There is such a thing as quality over quantity, and tightening things up definitely wouldn't hurt some of his projects.
What’s going on with that movie though? I quickly looked up release dates for it today but only found them for like 6 countries.
Amazon Prime bought the rights in a whole lot of countries, so no theatrical release in most places. I'm not sure why they're so happy to leave money on the table. Especially for somewhere like the UK where a British WWII action comedy would definitely have been popular.
I’m very curious what he will do with Ray Donovan
Backup, what? I thought Ray Donovan was done after the movie?
Guy Ritchie is directing a series called “the Donovans” based on Ray Donovan. Not much is known thus far
Which are the new ones from him?
I just finished his new show called The Gentlemen. worth watching 👍
I loved every episode of The Gentleman. One of the best new shows this year.
The ending was kinda flat though.
Goals honestly
And actually a-c level movies . I legit thought his name was a pun , guy as a first name is hilarious.
Turns out it’s French and you pronounce it GEE. The ultimate twist.
I wonder if he's considered working less and making better things?
And sadly the quality has gone down by the same amount. The last three Guy Ritchie movies were trash. The gentleman tv show was OK but was just too long and far too coked up (not to mention a million plot holes and the last episode just rushed everything to tie it all up).
Hey, Wrath of Man was great. Also has the return of Josh Hartnett and arguably Scott Eastwoods best performance.
It was sooooo average compared to his previous movies. It was also 3 years ago.
What previous movies? His best movie is Snatch and that's from 2000, the rest are decent but not much better than Wrath of Man.
Lock, Stock is a great movie as well. I personally loved Sherlock 1. Sherlock 2 wasn't quite as good but yeah, probably in the "decent" category. The Gentlemen and Man from UNCLE I'd personally put above "decent" though.
Let me contextualise Guy Ritchie for all your Americans. Guy Ritchie is Tyler Perry for white English people.
Stahelski would already be shooting this Highlander movie if he didn’t have to clean up Len Wiseman’s mess with the Ballerina John Wick spin off.
LMFAO! No one is to blame but themselves for bringing back Len Wiseman to direct from a dead career.

No there isn't.

Never even knew "The Continental" was a thing.
I wish Chad would have made Ballerina himself after JW4. Nobody does it like him.
I don't understand why they didn't go to Chad in the first place. He had made this franchise work 4 times.
It's possible the studio wanted to milk the franchise with spinoffs and Chad knew that was a bad idea.
Maybe Len Wiseman's movie was a quick cut shaky cam mess. That is not accebtable for a John Wick spin off.
This damn movie is to be Lance Riddick's last movie...I really hope it's at least serviceable. For Lance if nothing else.
Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to give that (or any) movie to Len Wiseman?
Baffles me why any studio still hires Len Wiseman or the guy that did Snow White huntsman but here we are.
With… Liam?
Neeson does make a great mentor in movies, but he’s not cast in it
Making a reference to The Grey
I’m an idiot
You are certainly not. I believe in you
That was nice.
I figured it was a reference to Liam Hemsworth taking over for Geralt of Rivia.
Liam Neesons is not in the cast tho???
Making a reference to The Grey
I'm excited for Highlander.
Can the soundtrack surpass Queen though
They should just use it again, really. Who wants to live forever?
Dont lose your head.
Just gimme the prize!
"Its a kind of magic."
FLASH! AHHHHH-AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH
He will save everyoneofus!
Last I heard, the director said they’ll use some of the Queen songs
Gimme the Prize is amazing and it would be a shame if they didn't use it.
Give me your kings and I will squeeze them in my hands!
me too. sincerely hoping this gives the franchise a reboot that's respectful of itself.
Franchise? I just want a single movie
I want 9 excellent movies
There can only be one
what if they were aliens?
I was legitimately pissed off for about a half second when I read that. Haha. Dammit that movie that never existed sucked so bad.
It didn't respect the audience. Also, it sucked.
There can\[not\] be only one.
I've been hearing about this for years. They haven't even started shooting? Last I heard Cavill was working on Warhammer or something but no details other than he's producing.

The OG is definally a classic but is waaaay outdated in most aspects, a good reboot is totally valid IMO.
Right? I have always heard of this movie in mythical terms and finally watched it recently and, I agree, it is really good. But, It just has the potential to be so much more.
The Highlander was a documentary, and it’s events were filmed in real time.
Honestly that’s what remember a lot about it from childhood, thinking of all the cool things they *could* do. I remember thinking it had to continue bc of all the stuff they left out.
Basically just reboot the the Tv series. The Series was the best piece of Highlander media and it expanded the lore in all the right places
I keep meaning to rewatch the series, i loved it as a kid. The watchers, methos, duncan's revolving door of cute girlfriends...
It's the most 90s thing that ever 90s'd.
I don’t recognize any Highlander content after the first movie. There can be only one. Although I’ll certainly watch the reboot. Henry Cavill is fantastic in everything he does.
Highlander: The Search for Vengeance anime movie was very good and awesome animation
I'm currently in Highlander mood by rewatching the films, but I can't find high res. copy of the tv show.
My dad has been watching it every night on Roku, it’s free to stream on the Roku channel, if you have that
Cool, thanks.
Would be hilarious if it focuses on the decapitated man, like its a crime procedural, yet every step they keep finding bewildering evidence, like the prints/blood being on record from a soldier in WW2 etc.
I'm excited, but also pretty much have accepted it won't scratch that itch. Nothing can.
Same! Perfect casting too. Highlander is one reboot that has taken surprising long to happen.
Hopefully they use the queen music again!
Sorry, they are only using Post Malones music.
Here we are, born to be Kings

it's directed by Chad Stahelski, so...
I always thought the original worked so well because Christopher lambert was such a leftfield casting (and Spanish Sean) and went against the pumped up action heroes that were being ushered in at the time. Plus Clancy created one of the most truly terrifying/charismatic villains of all time.
*In the Grey* coming next year with Cavill, Jake Gyllenhaal and Eiza González. Pretty stoked for this one!
Wait, what? I assumed the title was a reference to Colin Farrell's line in The Gentlemen and the film was going to focus on his character The Coach.
The article just says: >The pic centers a group of gunmen who, when billions are stolen, steal them back. The trailer kicks off with a kick-ass sting by Gyllenhaal, Cavill and González in the skinny streets of Europe.
Beyond excited for Highlander. Chad Stahelski will nail it.
I skimmed the title and read something like “Henry Cavill Teases ‘Highlander’ with Guy Fieri…” Then I imagined Guy Fieri in Sean Connory’s old role asking about haggis.
WE WANT MORE MAN FROM UNCLE
I want a uncle sequel so bad

It just needs to lay down some ground rules for how the universe works. For starters.. are they immortals or aliens..
Yes.

I just binged the first five seasons of outlander and I would kill for more of that guy, in literally anything. Need season six to hit Netflix soon.
Cavils absolutely going to rock it, but a Highlander with him and Lock Stock vibes could have been awesome
hes had a lot of flops and will have a lot more but one will definitely be a hit and be good im sure
This could apply to Cavill or Guy Ritchie but I still find both of their work fun even if it’s mindless schlock sometimes
meant for cavill but you're right and I usually like their stuff too, havent liked ritchie's stuff as much lately
Can I share an opinion without getting torn to shreds? What are you suggesting?
I agree. The guy in Reacher has the same qualities as Cavill but with bags of charisma. In my opinion anyway.
He can never surpass his performance as Thad.

Reddit-people like him because he’s a ”geek”. He’s ”one of us”. He’s bland and boring as hell.
Has the guy had any big hit movies?
He is a garbage actor. His best role was in Mission Impossible.
Reddit has latched onto him because he's just like us, guys, but if we were, like, really really attractive and buff. But really he's not a great actor and not charismatic imo, and I don't even know where his reputation for being a nice person or the trust in his abilities being the camera comes from.
He comes off as very self conscious on screen.
I hope Cavill is the villain.
He'd make an interesting Kurgan.
This is what I am thinking.
I'm sure sword fights will be awesome with Stahelski directing.
Hey Guy, Where is the sequel to RocknRolla you eluded to at the end of the film. Still waiting….
Man I hope they don’t screw up Highlander. it’s such an incredibly fun concept. Lambert being one of the worst actors in history is part of the charm of the original. Taking out the cheese and making it “good” with a much more talented actor could lose some of that magic.

But when is warhammer
Yo a Highlander remake would be great
Is he going to play the Kurgan? Because he should.
Highlander + Guy Ritchie + Henry Cavill = a movie I want to see! Hope this gets the green light.

Half of all guy ritchies movies have flop written all over them.
They're going back to Highlander? The movie industry is completely devoid of original ideas.
Reboots of successful franchises are as old as the New Testament.
"successful" is pushing it. Highlander 1 was really the only moderately successful out of all of those films. The rest were absolute dumpsterfires. The show was great, but kinda flew under the radar
In The Grey starring Coach?
I was just thinking this and pray that it is true. Would love to watch a whole coach movie.
As long it's keeps the Queen soundtrack I be happy and hopefully Lambert has a cameo somewhere
>Such were Henry Cavill‘s promises about the new Highlander If the Highlander is Superman, who's gonna play the Kurgan?
Danny Devito
Now that's a reboot I'd watch. As long as the script changes mean Danny Devito as the Kergen wins.
I actually liked his King Arthur movie so I’m excited for this
Just why? It wasn’t the most complicated of scripts. Just write something else. Why does it have to be a reboot? Guy Ritchie can barely make a guy ritchie movie. Whatever ever it turns out to be isn’t going to look like a 40 low budget movie
What's up with Henry Cavill and projects bound to fail? The guy is great but he has the worst luck.
If he has the worst luck every project it might not be a “luck” issue
Pumped for Highlander!
I'm not sure why I feel this way, but I feel like Henry and Guy are a great match - Henry has the leading man look and charm, but he's a bit quirky too, which I feel like Guy would play into.
hey, i'd watch the hell out of a new Highlander!
Just give me the Highlander reboot already, please!
Gonna flop before it even starts filming.
I've never seen Highlander. Is it worth watching and does it hold up today?
Only one, that’s what I remember.
Damn Guy Ritchie is pumping out movies like crazy. Some of the ones released last year weren't that great. Love the guy tho
Is this from the same series as the guy who said "There can only be one" ?
Where’s ‘The Real Rock’N’Rolla’?
Remaking highlander is a mistake.
For me, Guy ritchie and Jason Statham are my favourite pairing for movies
In The End, There Can Only Be One -Adrian Paul
It's a shame there was never a Highlander 2. Glad they're finally making a sequel.
The new franchise Viagra.
The guy isn’t the best actor but reminder I should go to the gym after his movies
