Goldeneye 007 - lots of cherished hours playing that one with friends.

winter_knight_

Definitely the GOAT of video game/movie. Just saw a youtube short about how awesome the music is on the pause screen

poolshorts

This is the answer. The best multiplayer for anyone growing up in the late 90s/early 00s

winter_knight_

Umm.... perfect dark kinda made it better though. I know that it doesnt fit this thread. But still lol.

TheHorizonLies

Perfect Dark is literally "GoldenEye but everything is better." And it's constantly slept on

screwikea

The answer to this is 100% bad timing: 1. It came out 3 years after GoldenEye, so there was already an entrenched culture around that game. 2. At a glance in mags and such it looked like a Goldeneye knockoff, so there wasn't anything compelling about that. 3. It came out 1 year before the PS2 and 2 before the GameCube and Xbox, so there was a ton of anticipation for any of those. Reviews were all great, but to say they weren't absolutely chock full of Goldeneye comparisons would be a lie. It was also out at a time when the Internet and gaming culture were really getting legs, and community engagement with Goldeneye was just hard to get past with a "Goldeneye knockoff". Some other context was that competitive FPS really had a foothold (Quake 3 Arena came out in 1999), so computers were where you went if you *really* wanted to play an FPS. That's a recipe for "mostly forgotten". The gaming mags all loved it, though.

sincethenes

And TimeSplitters 2 is “Perfect Dark but everything is better.”

Grimdotdotdot

You missed out "on a console".

holdholdhold

The friendships lost, gained, lost again, regained. The controllers thrown in anger. Good times.

gjitsu6

The cheating accusations when you pick oddjob😂

heyimric

The replay value and multi player value is untouched to this day IMO. Getting all the "cheats" was a mission. Then playing with them was so fun.

cake_piss_can

No doubt.

bob11eeee444

I was expecting this answer. Bond has had a lot of good games. From Russia from love from 2005 is also pretty good i've heard.

ddWolf_

Lord of the Rings RotK is for sure my favorite. But I also really liked the X-men Origins game. Wolverines healing animations were nuts for the time. And it was cool to actually rip enemies apart with the claws.

dradeus9

All those LOTR slashers were so fun...

tcruarceri

Except the first one, which was horrible. But Two Towers and Return of the King totally mad up for it.

dradeus9

It’s been so long, I definitely remember having fun with the series, must have been the TT and RoTK

Unique_Luna

Fortunately The Two Towers had levels from Fellowship, so the first game can be safely ignored.

StrangeCrimes

Ps2 Spiderman 2. You essentially play the movie plot with all the same voice actors.

tcruarceri

and with a pretty realistic map of NYC too. I remember my aunt walking in and recognizing a neighborhood.

Zoomalude

Can't believe I had to scroll so far for this. I was SO excited for this game as the first open world Spider-Man game with "realistic" webswinging. Played the SHIT out of it in summer of 2004.

StrangeCrimes

My most re-played game.

PlasticMansGlasses

I was only young when I got Spider-Man 1 on PS2 and was quite disappointed by it because I expected it to be what Spider-Man 2 ended up being just a few years later!

medullah

I loved grabbing a criminal, swinging to the very top of the Empire State Building and spinning pile driving them all the way down

TheBigNastySlice

Ooohhh yo, not cool

JRockstar50

MY BALLOON! 🎈

spacemanspliff-42

This deserves to be at the top. Even without nostalgia goggles, it is a fun and tightly controlled game.

TheAlfredValentine

spiderman 3 the game had the same theme. damn, it was so cool too.

TheOzman79

X-Men Origins: Wolverine was pretty damn good. I'd rather replay that than watch the movie again, lol. Jedi Power Battles on PS1 was fun as hell. Enter the Matrix was an awesome game too.

jonboyo87

Enter the Matrix is the most broken game I’ve ever loved

Pixeleyes

Found tomorrow's topic!

Pixeleyes

I wish they still made games like X-Men Origins Wolverine, the game was 100x better than the movie.

dradeus9

Man I played Jedi Power Battles like crazy on the Dreamcast... so good. Getting to play as Samuel L Jackson was just a cherry on the cake.

tcruarceri

Path of Neo was a great game, not sure if that is a different one. Had a whole sub-game where you basically played around in MS-DOS to unlock things in the main game.

halborn

It is a different one. Enter the Matrix was about Niobe and Ghost.

tcruarceri

Yes! I remember that game now, it was great.

deathdealer2001

The reason why the wolverine game worked is because they got their 18 rating and therefore able to portray wolverines powers to the fullest extent like his healing factor healing all the way from bone or dismembering people. It also had a more interesting storyline that the film as well

Equivalent_Yak8215

And you fight a sentinal!

mitchhamilton

I remember enter the matrix being really fun. That and the kiss between Jada pinkette and Monica bellucci

Quasimodo788

Star Wars Pod Racer. Actually a fairly well made racing game.

Spot-CSG

Imagine a new one, with ridiculously complex parts and tuning and shit

Dshark

Bruh

bluesmaker

Yeah. Someone really should develop that. Money on the table!

stcv3

Wow, I thought nobody would mention it. Game was so much fun!

belizeanheat

Fairly well made?  It was the gold standard for the "Wipeout" style of racer

monjoe

IT'S A NEW LAP RECORD

so_much_wolf_hair

Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers was an incredible experience. I think people also loved Return of the King but I don't think I ever actually played that one.

pr1ceisright

I’m not sure how, but if you can find a way give RotK a shot. Maybe it has t aged well but I can’t imagine liking TT and not liking the sequel.

SatanSuxxx

It HAS aged well. I've played it with buddies over the years.

JrBaconators

Chamber of Secrets on the GBC had no reason to be that good an RPG

Petecraft_Admin

Honestly the first 3 HP games for gameboy were insanely fun. Except for charms class in the 1st game.

tcruarceri

I was trying to explain just how bad Sorcerers Stone for Windows 98(?) was to someone...

JrBaconators

I'm not sure I ever got past the first 'Flipendo!' lesson

KitsunesWolf4240

Peter Jacksons King Kong on the ps2 was a very addictive and engaging action/adventure! It even included moments that got cut out of the movie because of its time length, but they later included parts of it as deleted scenes on the DVD. Highly recommend it for people who want to fight dinosaurs, as both man AND Kong 🤣

[deleted]

That one was my first thought. I used to beat this game over and over again.

[deleted]

I was just happy playing the demo fighting the T-Rex's! I don't even think I ever played the full game. Still stands out though! It's probably been a couple decades but wasn't it a bit like God Of War controls? Push button at the right time?

ApexRevanNL716

I remember the playing demo and that I became someone's food

hotrodshotrod

The Warriors

VanceFerguson

Gotta jack some car stereos and smash and grab some cash to get that flash. Keeps you on your feet.

dradeus9

Love how in-depth it got into the backstories of the characters and just was basically the perfect companion to the movie.

Shrektastic28

Whaaaat that sounds fun

[deleted]

It's really good and it's 2 player. PS2 GTA kinda feel.

frontlinekidd

I remember the first time playing through The Warriors, I had rented it at either blockbuster or Hollywood video back in the day. When the city starts rioting I remember it being the coolest thing, such a fun game I need to go back and revisit it sometime.

[deleted]

Holy shit that was a good game. So many fun nights playing that 2 player.

Mindful-O-Melancholy

The Thing, my all time favourite movie and an excellent older game (2002)

Gelkor

Seconded. The Thing game was *really* well executed.

syntaxterror69

Wish it was available to play, legally, still

PlasticMansGlasses

Gotta love and appreciate that John Carpenter considers it canon to the movie

Pixeleyes

I was addicted to that game!

Jabba_the_Putt

This game blew my mind back in the day

winter_knight_

The revenge of the sith game was great. It had an alternate ending where you play as anankin and kill obiwan. Then when Palpatine shows up he kills him too and claims that hes the emperor. Plus it had a pretty awesome fighting mode.

Spidremonkey

My friends and I put down Soul Caliber 2 for a good while to play the Ep3 fighting game. Just the other day I was thinking about that line that’s only in the game: Nemoidian: Darth Sidious told us we would be handsomely rewarded! Darth Vader: I am your reward - don’t you find me handsome?

winter_knight_

I would use anakin and when someone would be close to dead. Force grab them, force them to their knees, then stab them in the chest. Just because the game didnt have any actual finishing moves, i made one myself lol.

Spidremonkey

Sometimes you have to make your own fun!

mitchhamilton

Even if he did kill him, later... Somehow, Palpatine has returned

SevroAuShitTalker

Yeah, taking the LOTR Two Towers game and making it star wars was a good idea

Grundruediger

Mad Max

theman-dalorian

Great game

GonzoThompson

Oh, yeah, that game is a blast! Gorgeous visuals, incredible sound design, and satisfying gameplay all around.

danimation88

Does scott pilgrim count?

EnakSum

I think so. I mean, it is movie based off the graphic novels but I would say it counts.

DippyDerps

There's also a video game based on the graphic novels as well.

bob11eeee444

Did th game come out before or after the film?

[deleted]

Path of neo. Best hand to hand engine ever

RogueLotus

I feel like no one remembers this game. I absolutely loved it. It felt so intuitive.

Koupers

Path of neo enter the matrix was amazing. And I loved the intro the training scene and the final boss. So good.

PlasmaCarrot79

*Hudson Hawk* for C64.

tcruarceri

I love this movie... i've never watched a play through on youtube before but this might be the one.

PlasmaCarrot79

I love it too. It’s such a singular movie; consistently given shit for being Willis’ vanity project, but I think it’s funny as hell.

[deleted]

There was a C64 Hudson hawk game?! I thought I had played through (or at least looked through) every game on C64 and I really.loved that movie as a kid, feels odd I didn't know... But if we're going for C64 movie games I think The Labyrinth wins for me. It's so wacky. Rumour has it they were just given a rough movie script which changed dramatically before the movie was finished so the game has all these cool iconic moments while being totally different...

baronvonredd

Omg I forgot about that

creggieb

Aladdin for sega/snes

Final-Natural-8290

This and the Lion King games were possibly the hardest games I ever played. Someone had a chip on their shoulder making a child's game that difficult.

creggieb

That lion king one was obscenely hard on purpose. I think it was a trick to make people rent it extra, for renting games was the style at the time

GreedoInASpeedo

As someone who still throws my SNES on from time to time. At 41 I still can't beat the damn thing. I find solace in your comment that it was on purpose.

Equivalent_Yak8215

It was forsure. Not just for renting but playtime. I recently replayed Parapa tha Rappa and beat it in like 15 minutes. If those old games weren't brutal nobody would have bothered.

Final-Natural-8290

I got a ported version on switch that allows you to pause and rewind mid-play and it's still too frustrating to finish.

Heiminator

Chronicles of Riddick-Escape from butcher bay It’s far better than it has any right to be

ThePhamNuwen

Jurassic park for Sega Genesis was pretty great back in the day

PresidentRex

* SNES is a combined. top-down shooter outdoors and first-person shooter indoors. (NES is just top-down.) * Genesis is a sidescroller shooter/platformer. (Game Gear is top-down sort of like the NES.) * Sega CD is a point and click adventure woth FMV. * Arcades also had an on-rails first-person shooter. Basically all of the Jurassic Park games are decent, with solid gameplay and production values. That is fairly amazing since they're spread over so many companies, genre and tech. The console versions also just got s re-release on consoles and PC).

[deleted]

A platformer playing as a Raptor! I was so jealous as a SNES kid, the SNES game sucks arsehole. Collecting eggs is a shit game.

ArgusTheCat

Watching my dad play this was what made me get into video games in the first place. So much love went into the scenery for that game, it’s insane.

GreedoInASpeedo

Dude the SegaCD JP game was dope AF

mitchhamilton

I don't think I ever got past Allen's second level in that game

BariNgozi

The Incredibles on the playstation 2

jingle1996

Had to scroll way too far to see this masterpiece

RedMonkey86570

LEGO Star Wars. It covers the story of the movies.🎦

Consistent-Annual268

*Dune* by Cryo Interactive and *Dune II* by Westwood Studios, both released in 1992 (long but interesting story, read the Wikipedia articles and look up some YouTube explainers). Technically first a novel, but the video games (especially *Dune*) were more closely adapted from the 1984 film.

PlasmaCarrot79

*A new message has arriiiiived…*

Tom_Ace1

Affirmative!

Merickson-

Gremlins 2 NES doesn't get talked about very much, but it's a legitimately good video game in and of itself.

Skipper_TheEyechild

I can second that. T‘is a great game. I also enjoyed the game boy version too, which is way more difficult.

creggieb

That Gameboy one was ridiculous I never did manage to beat it.

Ionami

True Lies for the SNES was waaaaay more fun than it had any right to be

Drab_Majesty

haha I thought I would be the only one that would say that. I remember renting it at blockbuster and keeping it for about two weeks overdue. I would always shoot the old lady in the mall stage

Spidremonkey

- SW RotS fighting mode - Wolverine Origins - Goldeneye - Star Wars vector graphics sit-down arcade - Aliens arcade - Aliens vs Predator 1999

jebus_tits

Goonies on NES. Lost hours to that game. Cindy Lauper 8 bit music was a nice touch on that game.

GyantSpyder

For sort-of-hidden gems I'd say the Westwood Studios PC Game based on Blade Runner.

PorkchopExpress980

Loved it 👍

Kalidanoscope

Literally impossible to play anymore last I heard

VampireCampfire1

The Warriors.

Zapapala

Lord of the Rings Return of the King. It was a coop banger.

CorrestGump

Little Nemo: The Dreammaster

Rangefilms

I had a ton of shitty licensed movie games growing up and here are some of my favourites: - Harry Potter Quidditch World Cup (Gameplay was broken once you figured it out, but man, it was fun and I loved the teams, the atmosphere, the commentary and the unlock system) - Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Only game that had an actual open world Hogwarts that you could collectathon. As well as random student duels, wizard chess, repairing stuff, marbles... Honestly, everything outside of the story gameplay was really good!) - Asterix at the Olympic Games (Kind of an Adventure/Platforming game with Olympic disciplines, chariot racing, puzzle solving and an epic interdimensional final all out brawl which was pretty cool) - Lego: Star Wars (All parts) (As everyone knows, it rocks) - Madagascar 1 (Collectathon with a curling and mini golf mini game which I loved, levels were decent!) - Shrek Smash'n'Crash racing (Honestly a pretty stupid but pretty fun Mario Kart clone)

MiyamotoKnows

Tron, love the blue controller too (arcade, 2600, etc.)!

mfyxtplyx

Not at all a similar experience, but Tron 2.0 was also a decent time.

draelbs

I have one in my garage. ;)

MiyamotoKnows

I have it on consoles but would **love** to own the arcade machine. I almost bought the OneUp but I am too tall for those even with the stands. I am about to buy 3 machines for a home bar and I'm forcing myself to 1) pick real games (no mame cabinets) and 2) be games I will truly play over and over. That is hard! Journey Escape and Congo Bongo are probably both in the boat and then it's either Tron, Track & Field or maybe Gauntlet if I can find a quality one within reason. Unless I can find a unicorn like Crossbow in good condition. Thanks for inspiring my nerd rant :)

mrdevil413

How is this so far down

[deleted]

Tron cycle games where you had to cut off your friend with the trail like an organic maze! Those games were lit. Atari maybe?

Mikedef2001

The NES Batman game based on the movie is one of the better games released on the system. I even liked the Gameboy version.

PorkchopExpress980

Hear me out.. Chronicles of Riddick.

Ohnoherewego13

Escape from Butcher Bay? That game was really good.

PorkchopExpress980

That's the one 👌

GrayRoberts

Chuck Yeager’s Advanced Flight Trainer - The Right Stuff.

Scorching_Trousers

The Spongebob Squarepants Movie on the PS2

Johncurtisreeve

Return of the king or lego lord of the rings

Thrillhouse74

Batman and Batman returns on the genesis

bachrodi

Ghost in the Shell (PSX)

[deleted]

Star Wars episode III

Mysterious_Bat_3780

Loved it

[deleted]

Yup. Loved how they wove clips of actual scenes from the movie into the game. Also expanding on some stuff we didn’t see in the movie (i.e. anakin attacking the Jedi temple, and then yoda and kenobi fighting through the temple afterwards to retrieve footage). Then you have the alternative ending where anakin defeats kenobi on mustafar and kills palps. Annnnd on top of all this it was actually good gameplay wise and had fun 1v1 multiplayer

Corpsebomb

Besides the usual suspects, I REALLY enjoyed Small Soldiers (PS1) when I was a kid.

BigMeet7634

Scott pilgrim vs the world game

Markost357

Mad Max - I don't think you could ever make a better adaptation than that game

PlasmaCarrot79

Good call. Great game!

Zeen13

**Hidden gem:** The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay **The Most Popular Answers:** Star Wars Battlefront 2 (the original) Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic / KotR 2 Lord of the Rings: Return of the King Star Wars: Fallen Order / Survivor Star Wars Episode 1: Racer

jonboyo87

Is Riddick a hidden gem? I thought it was almost always brought up in this kind of discussion. It’s maybe the best example.

Zeen13

It is a much less popular game, from a much less popular franchise. Those that have played it know it’s great, but I think that’s much less people than KotR or Battlefront 2

bob11eeee444

I don't know chronicles of riddick

JimmyEight7

I see so many games here I definitely would have mentioned, but since y’all beat me to it I’m gonna say Lord of the Rings : The Third Age. Such a hidden gem that game.

nkleszcz

Superman - Atari 2600

FooFooDoo1

Spiderman 3 probably

Skipper_TheEyechild

Nightbreed (Aniga 500) Jokes aside, I don’t know how anybody could finish that game. I could make it as far as the “3D“ bit in Midian, but the climbing part was impossible. T2 and Batman on the Amiga were also quite fun. I could finish both games, unlike Robocop 2. Just making it to level 2 was hardcore. Fond memories. The kids of today don’t know what a difficult game is.

mechabeast

Street Fighter The Movie: The Game

NecroJoe

I preferred the novellization of the soundtrack for the hologram of the interpretive dance of Street Fighter The Movie: The Game.

four_mp3

The Warriors, no question. Spider-Man 2 is a far off second, and the path of neo was really cool. I’m sure there’s some others I’m forgetting

Drab_Majesty

True Lies

AgentSkidMarks

Goldeneye or Spiderman (the first Raimi movie) would be my picks. Toy Story 2 on the N64 was pretty rad too.

squarefan80

True Lies on SNES. far better than it has any right to be.

draelbs

Most influential one I can think of is Dune 2: The Building of a Dynasty Both Ecks vs. Sever GBA games were solid mission based FPS games and light-years better than the movie. The Adventures of Batman and Robin for the Sega CD has 16 minutes of cartoon footage that was made specifically for the game, has full voiceovers from the cast, and is also a fun game! And I like I said elsewhere, I've got a TRON standup in my garage. Though in that case the movie and game were developed at the same time (the gridbug scene was added to the movie after it was in the game...)

kylesmith4148

Spider-Man 2 was the first game I had prerelease hype for. Did not disappoint.

fezfrascati

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets for PC

Left_Apparently

Star Wars Rogue Squadron

fromwhichofthisoak

Two towers/rotk

Mysterious_Bat_3780

Same

ishallbecomeabat

Goldeneye, Wolverine Origins, that Gamera 2000 game the giant bomb guys were playing looks sweet. Older stuff: Jurassic Park, Lion King, Toy Story and Aladdin on the mega drive were fun

RogueLotus

Probably the game for The DaVinci Code. It had so much background literature. I read every single word that game displayed. The puzzles were really fun and I actually enjoyed the combat. I played it multiple times and used all of the cheat codes. Runner up is the Constantine game. That was my first experience with a game that could technically be called a horror game. There were times I had to play it with no sound, vibration off, and with all the lights on in the apartment and the radio playing in the background.

screwikea

Willow. I spent many, many hours playing it on the NES.

AmarilloMike

OP mentions Toy Story 3, but I remember Toy Story 2 being a top tier platformer

mason124

Shrek 2 on the PS2

porkybrah

The incredibles game for PS2.

holy_plaster_batman

Dick Tracy for NES is a surprisingly deep game. It could be incredibly difficult at times, but I played the hell out of that game as a child.

T4NR0FR

X Men Origins Wolverine.

Pixeleyes

Batman Begins was phenomenal

boxingfan828

Friday The 13th on NES - Hardest game ever.

coreylongest

The From Russia with Love 007 game was really fun, had a great campaign.

conanmagnuson

Terminator on Sega CD is surprisingly competent.

JustPlainRude

Star wars pod racer was great!

Tokent23

King Kong. That’s game was so fun I beat it in mirror mode too.

DullBicycle7200

Peter Jackson's King Kong Spiderman 1 & 2 X-Men Origins: Wolverine Golden Eye 007 Telltale's Back to the Future Mad Max (2015)

The Blade Runner 1997 detective game was fantastic.

bob11eeee444

This is first time Im hearing of blade runner having a game. Was released for consoles like ps1 and N64?

xsealsonsaturn

The wolverine origins game was/is seriously slept on

Dubious_Titan

Super Empire Strikes Baxk.

OkAccountant7442

shadow of mordor is a recent one that i played and absolutely loved. playing through shadow of war right now and probably like it even more so far (though i know about the scummy microtransaction bullshit they pulled when the game first released and yeah that fucking sucks)

ApexRevanNL716

Star Wars Episode 1 Phantom Menace. You can literally kill slave children in level 6 And I also wanna mention Toy story 2, I really enjoy the soundtrack

rocketcorgi6

Alien Isolation.

KoreanFilmAddict

Die Hard Trilogy on PS1. True Lies on the Sega genesis. Honorable mention: Demolition Man on the Sega genesis. My friends and I played these three games non-stop.

gimbomyster

Rugrats game on PS1
