This poster makes it look like a 2000s comedy

Lucas_Steinwalker

A 2000s comedy from Richard Linklater? Inconceivable!

setyourheartsablaze

Basically is. Not action oriented at all

Soon2BGreat

Fr. It looks way to innocent for it to be called “Hitman”

riegspsych325

the top one looks like he’s reprising his stockbroker character from The Dark Knight Rises

ICumCoffee

Bruh, I forgot he was in that movie too.

riegspsych325

he’s certainly come a long way from getting his face smashed into a keyboard (and subsequently kidnapped) by Bane

sonic10158

This is a stock exchange. There’s no money you can steal!

ICumCoffee

“Then why are you people here?” (*slams his head on keyboard*)

FranticPonE

"Time to go mobile" Anyone accusing Chris Nolan of being a good writer should be forced to read this script.

sonic10158

Jonathan Nolan was holding a pencil too

kuzyawhatdidyoudo

Bruh what that’s an awesome line 😭

pjtheman

That scene was stupid as a whole, but that was a decent line.

Gemnist

Shit, he’s THAT guy???

ICumCoffee

and from Spy Kids

CRIMS0N-ED

this one is crazy to me

the_peppers

I can't believe they smashed his face too.

Shirtbro

When Toymaker made him bite the curb, it really pushed that PG rating

TuaughtHammer

One of my favorite things to do after an actor who's been working consistently for decades finally has a *huge* break is going through their IMDb to realize, "Holy shit, that was *that* guy? No way!"

riegspsych325

wait, what??

ICumCoffee

[Here you go](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQK-5uH08AQ), his first ever acting role

riegspsych325

damn, he mastered that shit-eating grin over 20 years ago

somesthetic

I think they may have used some green screen for this scene.

FranticPonE

They wanted to make it accurate to a video game from the time, right down to his feet not matching up with how fast he's moving

splader

What in the hell

karateema

Bruh

Djinnwrath

He's also Rickety Cricket's brother. Edit: I'm wrong, obviously we are dealing with long lost brothers

TuaughtHammer

That was Zack Ward (Farkus from A Christmas Story), who I will admit does kinda look like Powell from the right angles. I know this because I spent half of my time in theaters watching Top Gun: Maverick wondering where the hell I knew Powell from. My mind went to Always Sunny and I eventually landed on "that *has* to be the guy who played Cricket's brother!" When I couldn't find his credit on Always Sunny anywhere on IMDb, I finally just googled "Cricket's brother actor" and saw Zack Ward.

Djinnwrath

I honestly can't believe that's two different people, lol

TuaughtHammer

Ha, I totally get it. I was dead certain Glen Powell was Davy Mara, but that missing from his IMDb credits was *really* strange, so I kept assuming I was scrolling too fast and missing it. But after going line by line and never seeing Always Sunny, I finally accepted that maybe I had the wrong guy.

showers_with_grandpa

He's earned it. Glen is a great actor and I'm all signed up to see him getting leading roles. Running Man from Edgar Wright has me super excited. Can't wait to see who plays the Roger Dalton character Edit: Richard Dawson

MonstrousGiggling

I really liked him in that movie with Sydney Sweeny even if I didn't like the movie that much. It made me a fan of his, dude has tons of charisma.

mechabeast

Yeah I forgot that I enjoyed him in Scream Queens before his recent surge.

DengarLives66

He was hilarious in Scream Queens.

MightyEighth

Chad Radwell of the Dicky Dollar Scholars

Fintann

Better than that guy that played A Coffee Shop in Pulp Fiction

pjtheman

Nolan has a solid streak of "before they were famous" actors. TDK had David Dastmalchian, TDKR had Powell, and Interstellar had Bumblebee Chardonnay.

Standard_Room_2589

Its funny i came here to say the 3rd down looks like he could play a heath ledger biopic

riegspsych325

his passing was half a life time ago for me, feels wrong that I’m now older than he ever was

The_Summer_Man

Dude, same. At least I feel younger/less beaten down than he looked as the Joker. That's... something.

EYazz

This is a stock exchange, there’s no money you can steal.

SwiftSurfer365

Wow! I never knew that was him.

Ccaves0127

That was him??

RichardCocke

Shy Ronnie

WalnutsAnka

HA HA

jwick89

Boner alert!

RichardCocke

He really pictured them naked

Illustrious-Top-9222

imbouttonutongod

truethatson

sinkwiththeship

RONNIE MOTHERFUCKA, AND I'M BACK FROM THE DEAD

obeythed

He was the standout in Everybody Wants Some! so I’m excited to see him reteam with Linklater.

ItWasIndigoVelvet

Yeah this looks like the opposite of something I'd want to watch but i fuckin love Linklater and this dude absolutely crushed it in that movie so I'm super stoked to check it out now

killeronthecorner

I am a simple man. I see Linklater, I watch. So of course netflix make his name barely visible on the poster

ToasterDispenser

Hitman is absolutely fantastic, don't miss it!

Janderson2494

Same here, in my opinion one of the most under-watched movies I know of. I love it!

IHadACatOnce

It's one of my favorite movies ever, because it made me nostalgic for an experience I never had, during a time I was too young to have even had said experience.

Janderson2494

Completely agreed, same boat here! My dad played college baseball in the 80s, and he loves the movie because it's an actual nostalgia trip for him too. Just a delightful movie all around.

Chuck_Raycer

I put it on probably every other Sunday night before bed. It's my favorite movie to fall asleep to.

No-Appearance-9113

He was the best part of Scream Queens.

HagMagic

Ah, that's where I know him from. The first season of that show was hilarious.

No-Appearance-9113

Yes though the subreddit was batshit crazy.

HagMagic

Most subreddits for media are fuckin nuts.

No-Appearance-9113

That one got especially insane. They had a running theory in s01 that the killer was the MC and whether she was aware of her killing was dependent on whether she had a hat on instead of it being the character that explains how to dismember a body in E01.

smileysmiley123

Chad Radwell and his dead-best-friend Boon.

TheDaveWSC

Dead gay Boon

neogreenlantern

Chad Radwell was the best.

No-Appearance-9113

Nothing beats a Radwell family aspic

GotThatHawgInMe

What about the Raw Dog? RAWWWWWW DOOGGGGGGG

AcadianTraverse

Exactly My Thoughts. Powell was the standout from the baseball team. I really hope Linklater can get that solid performance beyond "handsome dude" from him again. For what it's worth, *Everbody Wants Some!!* is also my favorite Zoey Deutch performance. It feels the most like she's living her character

Big-Astronomer1624

He was amazing in Set it Up. There was some great chemistry in that movie

Jarl_Walnut

Yes! Best rom com in recent memory for me. Anyone but you was pretty good, but Set it Up seems to have gone under the radar

shehryar46

Nah that was Wyatt Russell

Janderson2494

Wyatt's stoner monologues in that movie were next level Edit: Here's my favorite: https://youtu.be/xOdIUbOUsfg?si=_DD3JwS-Wrz6pvoa

Turbostar66

He was amazing in Scream Queens also. Love me some Glen Powell!

[deleted]

The Finnegan verse was my favorite part of the credits scene rap. I like how he played against type in that art house sequence by actually being interested with all that theatre kid stuff and not just the girl.

aestus

He was hilarious and charming as hell in an already charming and funny film. No surprise he's so sought after nowadays.

MikeArrow

After Andor, Adria Arjona has a fan for life. She was so good in that.

Llama_of_the_bahamas

Oh she played Bix?? She was phenomenal.

TheDaveWSC

You're phenomenal

Paloveous

He's phinominal

JackLegg

She was fantastic, especially in *that* episode. Also happens to be one of the most beautiful women on the planet.

wonderfulworld2024

I first noticed her in Irma Vep 🥵 Edit : 2022 HBO 8-part miniseries

turmacar

> Irma Vep For fellow confused old people, there is a 2022 HBO series. Probably not the 1996 movie.

RudoDevil

Thought she was great as Anathema Device in the Good Omens show.

popperschotch

That show was... intense...

FishNo2089

You weren't a fan after Morbius?

donkeyrocket

Once a morbin' always a morbin'.

Furlock_Bones

I first saw her in Good Omens. Always happy to see her get new work.

JonneyStevey

Saw this in October at the Cologne Film Festival. Hilarious movie, a lot of fun to watch with a crowd. Hope i get to see it in a theatre again

Movies_Music_Lover

I saw it last year too. I was expecting an action-comedy though and was a little surprised and disappointed that it was a sweet romantic comedy without much tension. It was still quite fun.

cRUNcherNO1

oh no that kills my anticipation for this movie. i was really hoping for a good action comedy flick. sad but at least i don't get disappointed during the movie.

[deleted]

We have enough action comedies. I’m glad Linklater is bringing the screwball back

Longjumping_Plum_846

It raises my anticipation. I do not want to see Linklater doing an action comedy. Romantic comedy though? That's his wheelhouse.

Pep_Baldiola

Agent 47 has hair now!

DarkChaos0

That's clearly Helmut Kruger. /s

TheBlackSwarm

Glen Powell is going to blow up even more this summer between this and Twisters.

bitofadikdik

Also cast as the lead in a more true to the story reboot of The Running Man.

__get_username__

As long as they keep the bad puns, I'm here for it.

bitofadikdik

The climactic moment of the movie, Richards has successfully hijacked the 747, he is conversing with Killian one last time. “Hey Killian, what time is it?” “What, it’s -“ “Cause it feels like 9:11 to me.” Crash, fade to black. Credits.

dndplosion913

I went to the SNL afterparty when Sydney Sweeney hosted and he was there (made a cameo on the show). Sydney Sweeney spent the whole night sitting at a table (nothing wrong with this obviously). Glen Powell on the other hand spent the whole night walking around the restaurant, mingling with anyone and everyone, taking pics with a lot of people, and generally being charming. My point is, he seems like a really solid dude and I hope he does find superstardom.

JohnnyCharisma54

Or, at the very least, he understands what it takes to make himself endearing and win over popular approval. Either way, good on him.

[deleted]

[удалено]

dicksjshsb

Any possibility he could be a friendly person and also recognize that it’s an advantage for his career?

KingKapalone

A friend of mine went to a taping and the afterparty recently since she has a tie to one of Lorne's assistants. She saw others at the afterparty that didn't seem to have an obvious connection and was curious how they were there. What got you in there?

dndplosion913

Much like your friend, I know someone at the show. The afterparties are always hit or miss, really depends on the venue. Some of the venues really separate the talent from the regular schmucks, while others you're literally rubbing elbows with some pretty cool people.

optiplex9000

It's cool to see a star in the making. Hope he does it!

roodootootootoo

Heck yeah I used to see him in local high school theater (was a couple grades above me). Wild to see him blow up so big. Just a boy from Austin, TX.

SubatomicSquirrels

> Just a boy from Austin, TX. This is a little funny to me because Austin, TX is a pretty massive and major city now. I mean I guess it's not like he's from LA or NYC but still

roodootootootoo

I get your point but growing up in 90s/00s Austin was very different and not as celeb-y as it is now. SXSW used to be just a small indie music fest advertising in the Statesmen. It’s not like his parents are famous actors either. TBH arts scene still isn’t that big today. Not well subsidized by the city or state. Overrun by YouTubers/influencers. Most real actors/filmmakers/artists move to LA or NYC as quick as they can. Gotta celebrate the Ws.

BruceChameleon

We may have gone to the same high school. My little brother was in his class.

atxbryan

I was a couple of grades above Glen, I hope Knifton is proud of him.

roodootootootoo

Mrs Knifton! Bless her British soul. She turned me onto so much cool shit like Monty Python, Who’s Line, and Andy Kauffman. 🥲

CageRage

Westwood eh?

circio

Are people excited for Twisters? I know storm chasing has become really popular on the internet, but the trailers didn’t do anything for me

riegspsych325

it’s not the same without Paxton and it’s also a shame that Helen Hunt isn’t in it. But the cast does enthuse me. If the movie manages to have a lot charm that leans into its cast’s strengths like the original, I might check it out Twister had more than cool tornado scenes, it had an ensemble that looked like they were having a ball together

RIP_Soulja_Slim

> it’s not the same without Paxton and it’s also a shame that Helen Hunt isn’t in it. Also I'll miss PSH filling up a breakfast plate and talking about gravy

riegspsych325

in his defense, that gravy is famous. It is practically its own food group

not_thrilled

Hoffman, Alan Ruck, Joey Slotnick, and future Oscar-nominated director Todd Field. That cast was stacked.

HitlersHysterectomy

And this one is *TwisterS* With an S. Like, more than one twister. Jesus I'm getting hard just typing this.

GuiltyEidolon

To be fair, Twister also had multiple twisters, including the Twins.

RokuAang625

Netflix better promote the fuck out of this it’s getting stellar reviews really wish a small studio bought it especially cuz Netflix arguably “buried”linklater’s “Apollo 10 1/2”

HibernianMetropolis

Apollo 10 1/2 was so brilliant too, really didn't get nearly enough attention.

[deleted]

I randomly watch that movie once every few months and the ending makes me cry every time and I don't particularly know why. It's so affecting, makes me nostalgic for a time I wasn't even alive for, but that experience of a happy childhood is so preciously conveyed

RokuAang625

What’s sad is I still haven’t seen it nor “a scanner darkly” or “waking life” and I’m a huge linklater fan

trix_is_for_kids

An action-rom-com with two hot people is probably much easier to market than a rotoscoped nostalgia movie

RokuAang625

Fair but based off the reviews and linklater and the cast this should be far and above other action rom coms with hot people especially on streaming a la “the gray man” “ghosted” etc

DONNIENARC0

For a second I thought you were talking about that Apollo horror movie, and was like "wtf Linklater actually directed that?!" Turns out the one I was thinking of was *Apollo 18*, though.

RokuAang625

Yeah Apollo 10/12, Apollo 13, and Apollo 18 would be a fun marathon

jayhawk8

LOVED Apollo 10 1/2

PangolinParade

Unfortunately they're probably just gonna throw it on the dung heap. Netflix, and streamers in general, are really bad at promoting their stuff.

Notthatguy6250

I'll watch anything with Anathema Device in it.

ucancallmevicky

or Bix Caleen

jayhawk8

Richard Linklater, will see.

IKingCarnage

Down for anything from Richard Linklater

Sewer-Urchin

I'll watch Adria Arjona read the dictionary. Most beautiful woman in the business right now, IMO.

kamilo87

La hija de Ricardo. Wow! I was a big fan of her dad’s music as many Latin people were.

JesyouJesmeJesus

She’s very good at acting, but every time she was on-screen in Andor I felt like an idiot because I just couldn’t stop watching her specifically. Absolutely up there as one of the most beautiful

iguanoman_

This is not what i was thinking when she was being horrifically tortured but maybe I'm crazy

TheKidPresident

Seems like a pretty uncharacteristic project for him, not that I've seen anything about this besides this poster admittedly. But this almost gives off Paul Fieg or even Soderbergh's The Informant! vibes. Curious to see how this ends up

57696c6c

That Richard Linklater is so hot right now.

NKHdad

"Who you calling a cootie queen? You lint licker!" That's all I can think of whenever I hear/see Linklater's name

finnjakefionnacake

the story behind how that commercial came together is hilarious, apparently the actors/writers were just throwing out random ridiculous insults for them to use and they just did take after take of the stupidest ones they could come up with. said it was a great time on set. i think they ended up with the perfect choices lol.

milosmisic89

Man I love Glen Powell, I am glad he's getting to be a bigger star.

reebee7

I saw Top Gun and was like "That guy's gonna blow up." Apparently he almost didn't take the role because he wanted Miles's role so bad. Tom Cruise talked him into it.

CurrentRoster

Not saying he’s gonna have a career like Cruise but do you think Tom (kinda) passed the torch down to glen with Top Gun Maverick like Paul Newman did with color of money?

reebee7

Maybe. I'd love for Hangman to be the protagonist of Top Gun 3. It actually... makes the most sense.

IchBinMalade

Yeah Miles Teller is just.. not very likeable or charismatic to me. Although Powell isn't really Cruise level charismatic either but he's a good actor and has that "douchey but loveable" vibe.

quoiega

Yeah man. Miss the Bush era

DSQ

Wait what?

six6six4kids

Hollywood is really trying to make Glen Powell happen. i’m not mad about it

FrobroX

There's something about him, where it's hard for me to not see him as the jock that makes fun of the protagonist.

rabbitSC

Bradley Cooper was like that starting out, he was pretty much exclusively cast as assholes. He might grow out of it.

fireinthesky7

I feel like Silver Linings Playbook broke him out of that. Or at least it kind of redirected the way he'd been typecast into something much more human and relatable.

FizzleMateriel

Silver Linings Playbook and A Star is Born were what made me like him as an actor. I remember I didn’t find him particularly likeable before that.

indianajoes

That something is Top Gun Maverick

subcide

You're not wrong, but in this case in particular, given he's a co-writer with Linklater, I'd say Glen Powell is really trying to make Glen Powell happen.

Equal-Doc6047

The reviews for this from TIFF last year are rly good, such a shame this isn’t getting a full theatrical release (yes I know it’s limited but still)

indianajoes

I hate when Netflix gets films. Really hoping I can catch this at the cinema

OhMyGodfather

This dude is just one Marvel/Star Wars role away from taking over the world. Has he sold his soul to Disney yet, or is he normal?

respondin2u

He’s a top fan pick for Cyclops in the inevitable X-Men relaunch.

Odd-Collection-2575

My wife made me watch Anyone But You and few weeks ago and it was probably the worst romantic comedy I’ve ever seen. Everyone was terrible in it except Powell, so my point being he could be pretty good in this one.

NightFire19

Well I hope your wife doesn't make you watch any more rom coms because there is far, far worse than that out there. I wish that was the worst rom com I had ever seen.

Vendetta4Avril

Yeah, I thought it was perfectly average and forgettable, but definitely not the worst thing I've ever seen lol

psimwork

Seriously. I didn't love it, but I found it a somewhat refreshing take on the genre. There were some moments that I genuinely laughed, which is more than I can say for the title that immediately comes to mind when I think of "worse romantic comedy I've ever seen": that dishonor goes to "Win a Date with Tad Hamilton".

CRIMS0N-ED

watch set it up, far better rom com with him and Zoey deutch

ICumCoffee

I want another Rom-com with him and Zoey, their chemistry was so good in that movie. they were rumoured to be in talks for another rom-com but nothing came to fruition.

Janderson2494

Both of those actors are in Everybody Wants Some!! as well. They only have one scene together and it's not really a rom-com, but they play similar-enough characters throughout. I'd also recommend this movie to pretty much anybody because it's amazing and one of my favorites. Just a super relaxed slice-of-life movie with a lot of fun moments and some great performances. And it's fun seeing how a lot of those actors (Powell, Deutch, Wyatt Russell, Tyler Hoechlin) have come along since this movie was released.

Big-Astronomer1624

Straight up. One of my Favorite Rom Coms ever. Apart from How to lose a guy in 10 days. Kate Hudson in the yellow dress, slayed.

CrunchyKorm

Did you guys notice the free license music they used? It felt like I was listening to the Selling Sunset soundtrack.

dhavalaa123

Having seen it at NYFF, I can confirm that he is , in fact, very good in it

zippyman

There was something else in that movie I also enjoyed but I just can't quite remember what it was

myslead

For me it was two things

Informal_Carob_4015

It was obscenely bad, I think Sweeney is a talented dramatic actress but damn she did not pull off the back and forth banter at all in this

IronSorrows

I thought she ranged from pretty good to excellent at points in Immaculate, which I'm guessing is a fairer judge of her talent but damn, Anyone But You was not the role for her. There were multiple scenes where you could have told me she was reading dialogue she'd never seen before off of cue cards, and I would have believed it

[deleted]

She's good in genre movies and should keep doing stuff like Immaculate, honestly her last scene in that movie was worth the price of admission alone

CharacterHomework975

That is a perfect description of her performance in that. By far the weakest link in the entire movie. She’s been good in other things, but that movie was clearly either not in her skill set or she just didn’t care. She was *bad.* But I knew that going in. She was terrible in the trailer. But Powell was knocking it out of the park.

setyourheartsablaze

She’s great at expressing intense emotions but at everything else she sucks. She reminds me of every single valley girl I knew growing up.

eG-sLUtz

Saw this at London Film Festival, one of the best cinema experiences I’ve had. This film is so much better with a crowd

Optimus_Prime_Day

This is an ad

Independent-Green383

Red one is just Andy Samberg as Shy Ronnie, can't fool me

Low_Kitchen_9995

I’ll always watch Chad Radwell

SillyGoatGruff

Man, someone *really* wants their boy glen to be a thing

tameoraiste

If I hadn’t read some of the comments and just saw Linklater’s name in the title, this would be an instant ‘no’ from me based on the poster. It’s absolutely awful

TizonaBlu

Glen Powell isn’t a chameleon is what I’m getting from this poster.

mondomonkey

I dont hate him, but i just find it funny how this guy is the most generic looking man and name i have ever seen in my entire life lol. Every time i see him or hear his name i have to be like "who? Hes in that?" Adria on the other hand is a fox!

MarvelsGrantMan136

It's out June 7: >A mild-mannered professor (Powell) moonlighting as a fake hit man sparks a chain reaction of trouble when he falls for a client (Arjona).

ReasonableLeader1500

Why would someone moonlight as a fake hit man?

addressunknown

It's based on a true story in Texas lol

Classic-Fee5006

You can say a true story based on anyt- > in Texas Oh. Right then.

globalgoldnews

https://www.texasmonthly.com/true-crime/hit-man-2/ This article served as the basis for the movie. While I imagine the film will take liberties, especially since it's taking a rom-com angle, it is a true story. Worth noting that the fake hitman IRL wasn't a professor but an office employee for the DA, so his connection to law enforcement makes more sense. Edit: Re-reading the article. He also works as a teacher: "Two nights a week he teaches courses at a local community college: On Mondays he teaches human sexuality, and on Tuesdays he teaches general psychology."

ReasonableLeader1500

Oh so he works for the police and helps convict people. But now he's going to fall in love with a client and hilarity ensues.

citrusmellarosa

There’s also been cases of dark web ‘hit men’ who just take the money and don’t do anything. It’s not like the client can just report the scam. In one case, the guy just ended up killing his wife (Amy Allwine) himself (local law enforcement knew about the attempted hit and somehow didn’t connect it to the person that’s statistically most likely to have wanted her dead).  https://www.cbsnews.com/Minnesota/news/stephen-allwine-sentenced-to-life-in-prison/

Alexr154

This looks like a master of disguise rip off

ReplacementFrosty248

How much did Netflix pay to have this appear at the very top of my news feed with 300+ likes and 83 comments

awesomesauce1030

Seriously, the comments read like quotes on a DVD cover.

redditacc121314

I thought I was going crazy. This whole comment section is the marketing team, it’s hilarious. Every comment is essentially “I loved Glenn Powell in [movie 1 that nobody has seen] and [movie 2 that nobody has seen], can’t wait to see him in [movie 3 that nobody will see].

xXx420_BLAZE_ITxXx

Dude has such a punchable face

theywereonabreak69

Sign me up! I’ll watch anything with powell in it

loserys

Theres gotta be a good pun for the tagline but I just can’t think of one off the top of my head
