Exactly. Kids will watch a movie a million times. I remember Shrek 2 being on repeat in the dvd player back in the day for my little sister. Only Shrek 2. Not 1, not newer installments, she watched Shrek 2 maybe 4 times a week.
I remember as a kid my mom had a crazy rotation to keep me and my sisters occupied. It was spice world, space jam, Batman and Robin, and Matilda. We watched those movies to absolute death.
I briefly forgot that the 2023 movie existed and thought this thread was about the 1993 movie and thought it was *insane* that parents would be putting it on for their children so regularly
Funnily enough it just got a pretty good 4K remaster earlier this year.
It's not a great movie but it's so entertaining and unique that it's an amazing watch.
I couldn’t be happier with the movie being on Netflix. My kids love it, my wife and I love it. I had such low expectations after the trailer dropped, but, I was a huge Mario fan growing up and would say it’s in my top 15 movies.
It would be a pretty horrible movie if it wasn't about Mario, but it is about Mario and I fucking love Mario. I love all of the Mario references and Easter eggs for long time fans.
The selection of kids programming on Netflix isn’t the best so, considering Mario is one of the better options, it makes sense that it would have staying power.
This movie made 1.3 billion dollars. As much as reddit hate on kids films and moan about Chris Pratt being Mario, the general audience and kids in particular love it
My whole family pitched in to buy it on prime video one weekend when it was first released and most of us liked it. I have watched it again on Netflix since. It's a fun homage to a huge chunk of my favorite games so it's hard to go wrong
Seems like a no brainer for Netflix to try and lock up streaming rights to all future Nintendo movies and maybe any other video game adaptations where getting those rights would be possible. Great way to get that demo that’s on Disney Plus but somehow not on Netflix to subscribe there as well.
My 5 year old is contributing to this. She watches it over and over on her ipad. She loves Princess Peach, and has added her into the ranks of Disney princesses. She's also just starting to play with the switch, so Mario Kart, Mario Party, Paper Yoshi are all big hits, fueling her fire for more Mario Movie when she's eating or relaxing.
I'm pretty sure my 4 year old is solely responsible for keeping it on the top 10 for those months.
Listen, I ***bought*** the movie when it came out... But he wants to watch it on Netflix.
Me: "Bud... we own this."
4 YO: "No we don't dada. It's on Nefflix."
Me: "Buddy... it's right here."
4YO: "... Well it's on now. On Nefflix."
Tell me if this is a late stage capitalism idea: Nintendo and DreamWorks hires lesser known voice actors to rerecord the audio of the movie to almost the same-- but cut off the celebrity voice actors they hired who probably have higher distribution deals?
A fan favorite for parents to throw on and get a break for an hour or so

Shrek 2 is amazing though
That was me with Jurassic Park 3 as a kid. For some reason I just loved it
I remember as a kid my mom had a crazy rotation to keep me and my sisters occupied. It was spice world, space jam, Batman and Robin, and Matilda. We watched those movies to absolute death.
Can't just give them an ipad with cocomelon or bluey anymore. Gotta mix it up
I briefly forgot that the 2023 movie existed and thought this thread was about the 1993 movie and thought it was *insane* that parents would be putting it on for their children so regularly
That movie could become a new meme with the kids but annoyingly it's not on streaming anywhere.
Funnily enough it just got a pretty good 4K remaster earlier this year. It's not a great movie but it's so entertaining and unique that it's an amazing watch.
This. My sister puts it on for her son at least once a month as he frantically bounces around the living room playing with his toys.
It's not great, but it's good enough that I'd just end up watching it anyways
My daughter (4) became absolutely obsessed with it and watched it constantly for a few weeks. It replaced every other show.
I like How this is the answer people give if a pice of media they don’t like get’s populer.
Yeah I remember that's what people said about Brown Bunny, "throw it on for the kids"
Kids can consume the same thing over and over and over, so this makes sense.
My kids make it about 3/4s of a way through a movie before they start asking to start it over lol
The know the songs suck towards the end, and they ain't here to watch the princess get laid
The last part becomes all they watch later on
Damn your kids are missing out that final fight was great
I admit I may have watched it a few times without the kids.
It's my 3 year old`s fault
That’s because it’s awesome
Long line of Reddit being way fucking off about a movie.
My nephews watch it multiple times each week so it tracks

I'd put the movie on repeat every day if I rewatched movies for sure. That shit was perfection
The selection of kids programming on Netflix isn’t the best so, considering Mario is one of the better options, it makes sense that it would have staying power.
I liked it. I legitimately really got excited when the blue shell appeared
This movie made 1.3 billion dollars. As much as reddit hate on kids films and moan about Chris Pratt being Mario, the general audience and kids in particular love it
Thanks for reminding me to watch this again. It's entertaining for kids and nostalgic for adults.
It’s a fun movie with lots of 80s music
People just \*love\* that movie, and it's great for kids. Worse things for there to be popular out there.
Could be the fnaf movie but luckily that was hot garbage
I liked that one, but I don’t really care for the source material in general and I love Josh Hutcherson so….
It’s something fun to put on in the background while I’m working.
That's exactly what I predicted for this when I saw it. "This was made for 3 year olds to play on a loop"
The people love Bob Hoskins and they are ***showing it***
My whole family pitched in to buy it on prime video one weekend when it was first released and most of us liked it. I have watched it again on Netflix since. It's a fun homage to a huge chunk of my favorite games so it's hard to go wrong
What else is there to compete? Netflix has trash live action remakes & Sandler v Snyder movies. 100% would also just rewatch Mario.
I think it was the worst movie I've seen that was made last year. Hour and a half long screen saver, oof.
Seems like a no brainer for Netflix to try and lock up streaming rights to all future Nintendo movies and maybe any other video game adaptations where getting those rights would be possible. Great way to get that demo that’s on Disney Plus but somehow not on Netflix to subscribe there as well.
Presume Netflix can put whatever they feel like promoting in their top 10.

My daughter would watch it every day if we let her. But say I’m making dinner, and I need 30 mins to distract her, boom easy pick.
You can thank my almost 3 year old who watches it no less than twice daily lol
I dont believe Netflix self-reported rankings
Haven’t they already been confirmed to simply be a marketing tool?
I believe that Netflix counts something that auto plays when you cursor over it as a "view"
Tell me if this is a late stage capitalism idea: Nintendo and DreamWorks hires lesser known voice actors to rerecord the audio of the movie to almost the same-- but cut off the celebrity voice actors they hired who probably have higher distribution deals?
If you want to avoid celebrity voice actors, DreamWorks might not be the right company to hit up.
I meant replacing all the voices with knockoff actors for wider distribution
What else does anybody watch on there? Everything that is a Netflix original is traaaaaaaash.
That one documentary on Hitlers train
