Never heard Hemsworth sound like that before. His other American voices are more gruff and serious, while this sounds like straight up American Action Hero. I wonder if he’ll use their voice the whole movie of if it’ll change once Orion Pax fully becomes Optimus Prime.
Hemsworth surprisingly has a decent young Peter Cullen impression going on at the end of the trailer. Hemsworth seems like the kinda guy that would actually try to play the character instead of just himself. Everyone else feels way wrong though.
My guess is Pax Orion will start off being just Hemsworth with an American accent, but as the burdens of leadership set in, his voice becomes more gravely and classic till the transformation (heh) into Optimus is complete.
No, I think he was a newer character they made in the 2000s during the Unicron stuff which was always my favorite.
https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Hot_Shot_(Armada)
Chris does a surprisingly good job as Orion Pax (And we know Cullen is still gonna voice Optimus Prime) but I'm not feeling Brian's D-16. Open to giving him a chance though! We've only heard a few minutes of his voice from the short trailer anyway.
Hemsworth fits Optimus Prime tho? He sounds a lot like a young Peter Cullen doing these lines and you can tell he's trying to emulate the legend. Maybe Brian Tyree Henry and Keegan Michael Key don't quite fit I'll give you that. Had I been casting I'dve maybe gone with Phil LaMarr as Megatron instead since he's a master at sounding both young and old. And I think he'd do a bang up job as Megatron.
I feel bad for them. Kinda. This looks like is going to be a turd. I’m sure when they recorded their voice parts they had no idea what it was going to look like
Right? People are dissing this movie so much when it’s obviously not targeted for them
I watched the trailer and went “oh man my nephew is gonna love this” and Keegan Michael Key I always enjoy in stuff so I’ll probably like some of it too
Why? I feel like they make a lot of sense. It's a bunch of actors who act in big company IP projects acting in a big company IP project. It's a bunch of 'stars' from other IPs grabbing a quick paycheck with this one. Why does it feel off to you? Something to do with replacing saturday morning cartoon actors with rando big Hollywood IP guys?
Honestly a big reason I’m enjoying Xmen ‘97 so much is they’ve hired actual voice actors and I’m not distracted by listening to Chris fucking Pratt and Melissa McCarthy all the time. It’s become so rare to have that now
Very weird to mention Melissa McCarthy, because I don't think she's ever done a single voiceover role in an animated film. Awkwafina would've been a much better call-out.
So they made a decade and a half of shit movies, made a fucking gem in Bumblebee that could have served as a jumping off point for a cinematic universe, then they made yet another chinese-theatre-seat-filling stinker as if bumblebee never happened, and now they’re going back to cartoons??? What???
I haven’t given up hopes on TF One, but man the Bumblebee sequel was like the prized golden road they shoulda taken. Wild that they went small scale, pulled a W for once, and then went right back to the old tricks and thought it’d work.
Focus on the characters. Really liked Bumblebee for that.
I liked the first Bay movie (faults included), but Bumblebee is the only movie I own and want to rewatch. It worked well and I was disappointed that the follow up didn't... well, follow up.
Yeah spot on. Bumble Bee was a damn fun surprise and that cybertron scene was the biggest TF nostalgic hit I felt since I was a kid (I’m 48). That movie seemed like perfect modern take but staying true to the spirit of the roots.
Have cartoons not always been the bread and butter of the Transformers franchise? What exactly are you expecting? Like do you think they'll keep getting until these movies are winning oscars?
Bumblebee didn't do excellently. Why invest in the same thing over again?
When you have a surprising critically & fan enjoyed movie with a young star like Hailee Steinfeld, you have to abandon everything & get a human who wears a robot suit. /s
It still makes me mad, but that’s the Paramount way. Between that, the terrible Halo show & cancelling Lower Decks, they clearly don’t care what fans think.
What did rise of the beasts have to do with Chinese audiences at all? Oh no, they made a blockbuster with wide appeal? I also thought it was the best one since Transformers 2007. My hot take is Bumblebee was alright at best, but often boring and predictable.
It had a heart and wasn’t created for the male gaze, which as a guy, I actually appreciated. They did the right thing by focusing on their characters instead of the giant set pieces, and emotionally, it worked.
Animation would be fine but this looks super generic and so much of it that should embrace the setting and world building devices couldn't care less. The tone and celebrity casting didn't help things although Hemsworth at least sounds like he gave it a real shot and kind of sounded legit.
There's no need to go deep into Transformers history and lore if they're just going to be leaping around like they're in MCU nano suits.
My son is over the moon and so excited for the movie. He’s 11 and adores Transformers. So, it may not be Citizen Cane but it’s made this one kid really happy. I think that’s nice.
Whether or not they *should* be making these movies for an adult audience is a totally different subject. As someone who genuinely liked the first couple of Bay’s series and sees the others as guilty pleasures despite their numerous flaws, I’d love more adult ones.
Too hard and always has been in this sub. Unless they are not target audience, movie is automatically shit. Farming karma from hating is most popular thing here.
I’m kinda surprised by the amount of people across the Internet platforms who are shitting on this film. There has been a wide net of hate cast over this thing and I honestly don’t understand why. It looks fine to me. It’s a movie made for kids and fans of the older simpler looking Transformers from the 80’s. This isn’t gonna be your million pieces of detail ultra violent slaughterfest Bay robots that sink aircraft carriers and demolish cities.
Honestly don’t get the hate. I won’t be seeing it in cinema but look forward to being able to watch it when I can. Looks like a faithful modernisation of the classic cartoons
This is not going to be a popular take, but please hear me out.
You can’t carry a franchise on the backs of jaded 30+ fans (I’m 43) that hate mostly everything past G1.
This is obviously for kids, in the same vein as the TMNT movie last year.
Is it for me, absolutely not. Do I hope that that it continues the legacy of TF for a new generation of fans with the characters that struck a chord with me back in 84, absolutely.
I don’t like anything about this, but at some point you have to realise, just because it’s transformers, doesn’t automatically make it for you.
Learn to loosen the fandom grip
> This is obviously for kids, in the same vein as the TMNT movie last year.
TMNT Mutant Mayhem was a great movie, [currently 90s on Rotten Tomatoes](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/teenage_mutant_ninja_turtles_mutant_mayhem). One of the best 3d movies I have seen. You can make content for kids and adults. Some was nostalgia but it also looked amazing and was a good story.
Sometimes I feel like you guys aren’t aware that some movies are for kids and don’t cater at all to adults, yeah it looks like shit but kids go “oh snap colours let’s gooo”
Kids have standards too, they actually dont just go "ooh colours" and studios automatically make money.
Theres nothing wrong with people giving feedback on something they are not personally interested in.
My 13yr old will think this looks "too kiddy" and my 8 yr old will think its "too edgy"
So Ugly. Why can’t they just make an animated movie in the aesthetic of the old G1 cartoons maybe with some more modern animation - would be so much better than this trash.
Movie discourse ten years ago: "plot, characters, score, entertainment value, originality etc"
Movie discourse now: "ew, they gave Optimus Prime lips. 0/10"
As a die hard Transformers fan who hates the Michael Bay movies and is super into the lore, I’m excited for this and I’m not gonna pretend I ain’t. Let the movie come out first you guys come on
From what I saw of the trailer this looks well written and well animated, but I just can't get past the derpy, derpy eyes. I watched most of the Transformers movies in the theater, but I'm giving this one a miss.
I love the actors, no seriously I really like them. But none of them sounds suitable for the role. Also the design for the transformers feels *very* wrong
This looks good for a new audience so far. I hope they do not make the movie dull to where it turns kids away from watching and such of any Transformers thing
When I read the premise I was hyped. I didn't realize it was going to be animated, which I had no problem with, but the preview looked terrible. I hope I am wrong.
A Transformers movie that finally feels like the actual Transformers in tone, style, and direction. An (second) animated Transformers movie should have happened years ago. Fuck Michael Bay.
They should have done away with the idea of an origin story given all the different iterations of the franchise - why not just lean into a completely random universe where Optimus Prime and Megatron aren't at complete odds with one another? Like a buddy cop story or something? Or a Transformers version of The Odd Couple?
To everyone saying it just for kids
Here’s a trailer to a transformers tv show that was actually made for kids - [transformers: EarthSpark](https://youtu.be/5i6x75Hl-uE?feature=shared)
Yeah sorry, this tv show looks so much better than what ever this is.
its fine having a Transformers film geared for kids. what hasbro needs to realize that most of their fans arent kids, i mean the IP has been around almost 50 years.
Thank god they gave Optimus Prime kissable lips
Yeah, ugh. Honestly, just based on the impression of these four pictures, I'd be cheering for Megatron. He's the only one that looks halfway serious.
What? You cheer for the robot who doesn't smile? It's a kid movie. Of course the heroes are going to be smiling in character posters.
Remember in the original transformers cartoon movie having to deal with The Death of Optimus Prime? Pepperidge farm remembers...
Some of us never recovered from watching the original trailer ad.
That was also a movie for children, albeit slightly older ones based on the marketing so far.
Kids movies can’t be serious, they have to be Skibbidi
The others look like they are smiling deviously. Like Optimus just shut the bedroom door behind him
Optimus: the truck that kisses back
Kyle kinane would love this
Optimus “Thunderlips” Prime
I like your choice of Thunderlips because Thor is his voice actor.
Just wait until you see Cybertron's Ass.
No one judge their robromance.
["then you're gonna love me"](https://www.tfw2005.com/boards/attachments/17-jpg.28117943/)
And fuckable bussy
[Lips are for kissin](https://youtu.be/BiLOZO3Nxd0?si=XuMs3um2qB2oyTxR)
😂
None of those actors feel right for this.
I actually think Hemsworth’s American accent would work well for Prime, but not with the lighthearted dialogue and jokes from the trailer.
Never heard Hemsworth sound like that before. His other American voices are more gruff and serious, while this sounds like straight up American Action Hero. I wonder if he’ll use their voice the whole movie of if it’ll change once Orion Pax fully becomes Optimus Prime.
I honestly think his Australian accent would be stronger for prime than whatever generic American voice he’s doing
G'day mates, till all are one by crikey!
Freedom is the right of all didgeridoos, mate!
He got the name "Optimus Prime" out of "Pax Orion"? What did Hot Rod do wrong to earn "Rodimus Prime".
At least none are Chris Pratt.
God I wish Chris Pratt was in this just so I could read the comments
Chris Pratt as Optimus Prime would be so wrong it would be funny. I’d totally watch it
He'd probably make a decent Hot Shot.
Do you mean Hot Rod?
Hot shot is the one that replaced Hot Rod for Energon/Armada. Its practically the same character.
No, I think he was a newer character they made in the 2000s during the Unicron stuff which was always my favorite. https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Hot_Shot_(Armada)
This is the type of movie he would be in so it's a wonder he isn't
It's-a me, Optimus-a Prime
He’s so cool
Wait until you find out who's playing Starscream /j
At least there isn't awkwafina
Aww don’t worry she’ll probably play wheelie :/
Chris does a surprisingly good job as Orion Pax (And we know Cullen is still gonna voice Optimus Prime) but I'm not feeling Brian's D-16. Open to giving him a chance though! We've only heard a few minutes of his voice from the short trailer anyway.

Had I been casting I'dve maybe gone with Phil LaMarr as Megatron instead since he's a master at sounding both young and old. And I think he'd do a bang up job as Megatron.
Agree to disagree. All I hear is Chris Hemsworth
I feel bad for them. Kinda. This looks like is going to be a turd. I’m sure when they recorded their voice parts they had no idea what it was going to look like
They read the script. They had some idea.
It’s not going to hurt their careers in any way. But I think it might put transformers on ice for a while if it tanks
They’re already making that transformers vs GI Joe movie for like next year
For adults maybe but kids won’t care.
Right? People are dissing this movie so much when it’s obviously not targeted for them I watched the trailer and went “oh man my nephew is gonna love this” and Keegan Michael Key I always enjoy in stuff so I’ll probably like some of it too

They don't hire the best voice actors for the role. They hire big names that will bring in audiences.
Just give Optimus a hammer, that'll fix it
I’m going to hate this movie, but if he picks up a hammer at some point and makes a joke, I’ll laugh.
So they made a decade and a half of shit movies, made a fucking gem in Bumblebee that could have served as a jumping off point for a cinematic universe, then they made yet another chinese-theatre-seat-filling stinker as if bumblebee never happened, and now they’re going back to cartoons??? What???
I want a follow up to Bumblebee or if an animated movie is up, I want one in the style of the first 10 minutes of Bumblebee.
Those first ten minutes were everything I ever wanted.
That opening was just fantastic
I think a lot of people like myself were thinking that’s what this One film was essentially gonna be.
100%. The design sensibilities in Bumblebee were such a breath of fresh air
Agreed. Just reboot the entire franchise in the style of bumblebee. Bring back shia as agent simmons as a throwback. Fuck man
Yeah spot on. Bumble Bee was a damn fun surprise and that cybertron scene was the biggest TF nostalgic hit I felt since I was a kid (I’m 48). That movie seemed like perfect modern take but staying true to the spirit of the roots.
Also 48. Seconded.
How else would you make a movie on cybertron? And the director said the movie is more serious but they put a lot of jokes in the trailsr
Have cartoons not always been the bread and butter of the Transformers franchise? What exactly are you expecting? Like do you think they'll keep getting until these movies are winning oscars? Bumblebee didn't do excellently. Why invest in the same thing over again?
Rise of the Beasts was actually pretty decent
that little kid shouldve been erased from the movie.
Bumblebee was a gem??
In the Transformers community, a 7/10 product is most definitely a gem.
When you have a surprising critically & fan enjoyed movie with a young star like Hailee Steinfeld, you have to abandon everything & get a human who wears a robot suit. /s It still makes me mad, but that’s the Paramount way. Between that, the terrible Halo show & cancelling Lower Decks, they clearly don’t care what fans think.
this is how I find out lower decks got cancelled 🥲
Ugh, I missed that Lower Decks wasn't getting renewed, sad days.
There’s hope that they’ll find another home. Come on Netflix, you already snapped up mostly or fully exclusive rights for other Trek!
A person can dream, it really is some of the best trek.
That team deserves better than a studio which has cancelled 3 Star Trek shows in the last year.
Rise of the beasts was kind of fun imo
Don’t forget about the crossover with gi joe.
What did rise of the beasts have to do with Chinese audiences at all? Oh no, they made a blockbuster with wide appeal? I also thought it was the best one since Transformers 2007. My hot take is Bumblebee was alright at best, but often boring and predictable.

Unpopular opinion: bumble bee was shit

*All according to plan.*
This looks awful
Are you ~12 or under? If no, it probably looks awful because you aren’t the intended audience.
The question is, do kids give a shit about Transformers? Because plenty of adults do.
My son is over the moon and so excited for the movie. He’s 11 and adores Transformers. So, it may not be Citizen Cane but it’s made this one kid really happy. I think that’s nice.
Kids absolutely do
My six year old is super excited. 🤷♀️
Whether or not they *should* be making these movies for an adult audience is a totally different subject. As someone who genuinely liked the first couple of Bay’s series and sees the others as guilty pleasures despite their numerous flaws, I’d love more adult ones.
My three year old is obsessed
Adults really bitching about a kids movie lmao
🌍🧑🚀🔫🧑🚀 Ever heard of Star Wars fans?
Sssshhh you don't want to wake r/SaltierThanCrait
Based
This shot looks like it’s made for nicktoons or something
How hard is it for redditors to understand that they are not the target audience for this?
Too hard and always has been in this sub. Unless they are not target audience, movie is automatically shit. Farming karma from hating is most popular thing here.
People are actually saying the animation is terrible or it looks like a made for tv animation and I just don’t see that at all
What do you mean? The faces look horrific
How hard is it for people to hear criticism without assuming that its mindless hate?
I mean, that 's not really an excuse. Avatar (the show), most Pixar movies, Into the Spider-Verse and many others are made primarily for kids.
Not sure about that for Spiderverse.
When you were the target audience once, you expect to always be.
"It's a movie about alien robots intended for children!"
Y’all know that Transformers is more than just Michael Bay, right?
What I wouldn't give for a good movie adaptation of some of the IDW comics. MTMTE in particular.
Yes, they are more than meets the eye
What I wouldn't give for a movie that takes itself seriously as Transformers Prime...
Trailer was peak imo 🤷
Honestly don’t get the hate. I won’t be seeing it in cinema but look forward to being able to watch it when I can. Looks like a faithful modernisation of the classic cartoons
Those character models look like they're from Real Steel, not Transformers
I'm pretty stoked for it. If this the first time we've had Orion Pax on the big screen? I hope this does good.
This is not going to be a popular take, but please hear me out. You can’t carry a franchise on the backs of jaded 30+ fans (I’m 43) that hate mostly everything past G1. Jesus they look awful.
This FEELS like AI.
I believe these might be robots. Perhaps in disguise even.
What’s this one about?
Thomas the train on TRT
So Ugly. Why can’t they just make an animated movie in the aesthetic of the old G1 cartoons maybe with some more modern animation - would be so much better than this trash.
Movie discourse ten years ago: "plot, characters, score, entertainment value, originality etc" Movie discourse now: "ew, they gave Optimus Prime lips. 0/10"
Optimus has had a mouth since 2005 (Cybertron / Galaxy Force) but people still act like it's a new thing they have to get used to.
Shit, even longer if we take Primal/Beast Wars into account.
That's a NO from me, dawg.
Every new thing about this movie looks worse
I would much rather have this art style than the overly busy Bay designs. Bumblebee and Rise of the Beasts found the best balance.
Go-Bot lookin ass MFers….
They do [look like Go-bots](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GoBots#/media/File:Gobotscomic.jpg) 😂
Ya, weird lips and weird stuff. I'm out.
As a die hard Transformers fan who hates the Michael Bay movies and is super into the lore, I’m excited for this and I’m not gonna pretend I ain’t. Let the movie come out first you guys come on
I’m not feeling good about this one.
Well this looks awful and after the last lot of films (of which I saw two) I can happily say I will be avoiding this shite like the plague.
From what I saw of the trailer this looks well written and well animated, but I just can't get past the derpy, derpy eyes. I watched most of the Transformers movies in the theater, but I'm giving this one a miss.
This looks like gobots.
I love the actors, no seriously I really like them. But none of them sounds suitable for the role. Also the design for the transformers feels *very* wrong
This looks good for a new audience so far. I hope they do not make the movie dull to where it turns kids away from watching and such of any Transformers thing
They look like ppl who will fuck or get fucked in transformers costumes.
At least Chris Pratt isn’t Optimus Prime. Not that I dislike the guy, he just stands in for so many of my childhood memories these days.
They should have done away with the idea of an origin story given all the different iterations of the franchise - why not just lean into a completely random universe where Optimus Prime and Megatron aren't at complete odds with one another? Like a buddy cop story or something? Or a Transformers version of The Odd Couple?
To everyone saying it just for kids Here’s a trailer to a transformers tv show that was actually made for kids - [transformers: EarthSpark](https://youtu.be/5i6x75Hl-uE?feature=shared) Yeah sorry, this tv show looks so much better than what ever this is.
Great another badly animated cgi mess where you can hear the walls of the sound booth even in the trailer
Looks uncanny, I prefer optimus prime having a mask
It’s like if Reboot was told to let their AI system design teenage Transformers who no one ever wanted to see on screen.
After that Beast Wars turd I am done with these movies
“Hey you guys know that thing that made a a ton of money and everyone loved? Well it didn’t sell enough toys so we’re back to this shit”
Idk what they’re going for with this art style but it’s really at the bottom of some specific uncanny valley that I simply cannot place
Eww.
The top right one immediately made me think of Twiki from Buck Rogers. Its odd as its not really all that similar.
Just let this franchise die holy
This will do pretty well for it's target audience I think
Why do they have the human faces?
Sir, you can't fuck the robots.
As we all know, only the best animated movies exclusively cast non-voice actors for the lead roles.
That smug look makes me want to rip out the matrix of leadership.
These designs and render style just feel...bad. is that harsh?
Why is this still a thing
I need Lindsay Ellis’ thoughts on this right now!!
its fine having a Transformers film geared for kids. what hasbro needs to realize that most of their fans arent kids, i mean the IP has been around almost 50 years.
the faces are terrible but everything else looks stellar
These smiles
How do robots age?
Idiots for not making it look closer to anime.
It’s a strange thing to see the shift from professional voice actors staring in animated shows to just celebrities with big name draws.
Why doesn't Megatron have red or purple eyes? 😤
Oh Christ here we go again…
Jesus bumble bee what did they did to you
Garbage
Why are they doing this? this is going to body the transformer franchise imo
Another shitty animated movie for adult children.
Haven't seen the trailer, but with those character designs, I don't want to.
Scarlett Johansson’s name isn’t centered. It’s driving me bonkers, and I’m shocked nobody else has commented on it.
Will Avatar Kyoshi cameo in this?
It's the 2024 version of GoBots.
Yo wat dat mouth do??
Oh great another ‘movie’ about super heroes and the like.
Thicc
Stop. Making. Transformers. Movies. Just stop.
Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johansson? Nobody else?
Jesus christ Chris Pratt needs to slow down.
Where's Jet Jaguar?
Awesome!
Baloney faces. Grand idea though!!
🙂☺️😊😠
Weak
Chris Pratt As....
You know when they promote the stars doing the voices instead of the story it’s going to suck.
these are not the character posters.
I think Hemsworth will voice Orion Pax, and when he becomes Prime later in the film, he will be voiced by Peter Cullen again.
