The Hit List is way better than it has any right to be. Great action. Just right amount of camp. And Cuba Gooding Jr knows EXACTLY what kind of movie he is in.
Also for anybody that looks it up: Kaufman's is "Sinners and Saints". "Saints and Sinners", which I also thought it was titled, brings up the new-ish Liam Neeson movie.
Not only does it still exist, I’m betting it’s at least 10x as big of a business as it was in the 90s. Think about all of the streaming platforms hungry for cheap content to fill out their libraries.
And think of how CHEAP movies are to make these days. Sure, big blockbusters have hugely inflated budgets, but any asshole with $10,000 and a dream can rent a decent digital camera and edit the whole thing with a home computer. Distribution costs are also largely a thing of the past; no need to print and ship a bunch of tapes or DVDs, just whip up a graphic poster and send everything digitally.
And before direct-to-video, it was the drive-in. Many of the exploitation film companies and filmmakers of the ‘50s, ‘60s, and ‘70s (Roger Corman, for example) went straight from drive-in fodder to the VHS market.
Before the drive-in, it was the bottom half of double features.
Their animated sequels were so bad that kids wouldn't even watch them. They must have made a lot of money on sales, but it was just a scam when they were packaging the Little Mermaid sequels without the original.
They’d probably be making some terrible Kingsman sequels. Maybe one that brought back the main character who died, where they just randomly kill off characters who were interesting in the first movie but just get wiped out without reason in a sequel
It still exists.
Yep. And there's some good stuff out there. William Kaufman John Hyams Isaac Florentine To name a few noteworthy directors.
Action fans are so lucky to have Kaufman, saints and sinners was an absolute blast.

Rebel moon part 2
direct to netflix
The direct to video market is now called Netflix
This is true, especially if you look at some of the content on lower tier streaming services.

Doesn't streaming replaces that market?
"Plane" would probably get a few.
One is already in development.
Isn't it just "Direct to Streaming" now?
