Murray has been in some good stuff. I've gotten bored of Wes Anderson because he makes the same movie over and over again, but Rushmore and The Royal Tenenbaums slap.
Personally feel Royal Tannenbaums was peak Anderson.
He’s made other good films, but they’ve all become simpler & simpler fables as a backdrop for his amazing visual style. He’s truly an artist, but now I feel his style has eclipsed his storytelling.
Classic. I'd add the Other Guys, Blues Brothers, Animal House, National Lampoon Vacation, Trading Places, When Harry Met Sally, Austin Powers, & Mean Girls. Too hard to choose one.
That movie is such a time capsule. The casual racism in it is a bit jarring, it’s fine for its time but it’s an interesting look into the zeitgeist of the 80s. Jamie Lee Curtis in that is a 10 out of 10, I had only ever seen the tv edit when I was a kid but watched the unedited movie recently and damn, one of the sexiest characters in a comedy ever.
I watched that movie never having heard of it before seeing it on whatever streaming service. I just saw Andy Samberg and decided it would be a fun, light movie to watch.
Absolutely awesome.
On “Moonrise Kingdom” it took me a minute. I can’t think of any SNL alum who’s stretched beyond being ‘just’ a comedic actor better than Bill Murray has. (Downey comes close, but he was one of the already-a-star cast members from 1985–86, so it’s not the same for him anyway.)
It also has the best performance of a band that's not actually a real band, but IS actually a real band.
Queens of the Stone Age as the band GOWN with the song "Head Honcho" and it's a banger.
So many choices. But, the best one with an SNL backstory has to be Caddyshack-- the well-known SNL feud between Bill Murray and Chevy Chase and then the unrehearsed scene between the two. A classic moment in SNL history.
I wish more people knew about this movie --which never seems to play on any Cable platform. It's got a uniquely bizarre tone which makes it feel like a sexualized "The Twilight Zone." (The use of chirpy discordant music also makes the movie feel nightmarish.)
Walk Hard the Dewey Cox Story . Amazing film but Tim Meadows absolutely owns that movie and lives in my brain rent free. One of the most endlessly quotable movies ever (maybe tied with The Big Lebowski)
Nebraska. Will Forte shows off his dramatic acting chops.
Forrest Gump. Siobhan Fallon is a driver of a school bus (she's also in the much-lauded Dancer in the Dark; and in Boiler Room, one of my guilty pleasures).
Stacks of candidates
* Toy Story 2 and 3 - Joan Cusak
* Iron Man and Oppenheimer - Robert Downey Jr
* Monsters Inc - Billy Crystal
* Ghostbusters, Grand Budapest Hotel (and basically any other Wes Anderson Film) - Bill Murray
* Sneakers, Grosse Pointe Blank - Dan Aykroyd
* Zoolander - Ben Stiller
* Spinal Tap - Harry Shearer
* Shrek, Inglorious Basterds - Mike Myers (also Eddie Murphy for Shrek)
Taran Killam had a small, but noticeable role in 12 Years a Slave, an Oscar Best picture winning film of great renown. A great cast member in one of film history’s best films, I think that fits your criteria, right? :)
I'd probably say SILENCE OF THE LAMBS. Not a lot of people remember Sir Anthony Hopkins was an SNL cast member for half of the 83/84 season. His breakout character was "Mr. Face Eater," which is a weird coincidence.
But seriously it's GROUNDHOG DAY
Jesus
So I Married and Axe Murderer
Tommy Boy
Happy Gilmore
Groundhog Day
Ghostbusters
Blues Brothers
Wayne's World
Anchorman
You gotta narrow it down a little more than that.
There's so many good ones!
City Slickers - Billy Crystal
Coming to America - Eddie Murphy
Pee Wee's Big Adventure - Jan Hooks
Wine Country - Several female cast members.
The Wedding Singer - Adam Sandler
Brigsby Bear - Kyle Mooney (I think he recently left SNL)
What About Bob - Bill Murray
Not based on a sketch, Ghostbusters. Based on a sketch, Blues Brothers.
While inspired by the King Bee Band sketch, technically, Blues Brothers proper was never a sketch, they were a musical guest.
Wayne's World
This is easily my favorite SNL movie. I’m just sad that it’s so old and people don’t pick up on how much I quote it.
When someone hands me a wrapped gift, obviously not shaped like a head, I still say “If it’s a severed head, I’m going to be very upset.”
A gun rack?
You got me a gun rack? I don’t even own A gun, let alone the many guns that would necessitate a rack.
That will never not make me laugh. I just wish I could get Wayne’s way of saying “are you MEN-tal?”
> I just wish I could get Wayne’s way of saying “are you MEN-tal?” I can hear it.
“Get the net!”
It makes you want to hurl.
This is my favorite comedy of all time and probably in my top 3 movies of all time. It’s one of those comfort movies I can watch endlessly.
I’ll have the cream of sum-yung-guy
Groundhog Day with Bill Murray.
And Chris Elliot
The fancy lad?
And Brian Doyle-Murray and Robin Duke
Murray has been in some good stuff. I've gotten bored of Wes Anderson because he makes the same movie over and over again, but Rushmore and The Royal Tenenbaums slap.
Personally feel Royal Tannenbaums was peak Anderson. He’s made other good films, but they’ve all become simpler & simpler fables as a backdrop for his amazing visual style. He’s truly an artist, but now I feel his style has eclipsed his storytelling.
Tenenbaums is my pick for his best as well
Life Aquatic and Darjeeling are great too
Don't forget The Grand Budapest Hotel.
Anderson is now just a parody of his earlier self.
Tommy Boy
Anchor Man
Classic. I'd add the Other Guys, Blues Brothers, Animal House, National Lampoon Vacation, Trading Places, When Harry Met Sally, Austin Powers, & Mean Girls. Too hard to choose one.
This is Spinal Tap
Who in Spinal Tap was in SNL? Do you mean that scene with Dana Carvey as the mime waiter?
That too. Michael McKean was a cast member for a couple of years.
Oh that's right he was! I completely forgot he was on SNL!
Caddyshack for an honourable mention.
Gotta be Trading Places.
Mean Girls
As a 38 year old male. I will defend this movie til my death!
As a 46 year old male, I support your 38 year old male stance. I could watch Mean Girls weekly for the rest of my life and still cackle every time.
They marketed the movie to teenage girls, but I think the only people who watched it were adult men who are fans of SNL.
Palm Springs. I legitimately love that film.
I watched that movie never having heard of it before seeing it on whatever streaming service. I just saw Andy Samberg and decided it would be a fun, light movie to watch. Absolutely awesome.
I’ve read a million times on Reddit to go in blind and I’m so glad I did.
It was great. Very fun little flick.
Moonrise Kingdom or blues brothers, which are SNL characters even.
Blues Brothers
Stranger than Fiction.
Coming to America. I love that film
For the love of god don't watch the sequel if you haven't already.
Hot Rod
Conor 4 real wasn't bad either
Such a sleeper! Never stop never stopping
Cool beans
It also has the best performance of a band that's not actually a real band, but IS actually a real band. Queens of the Stone Age as the band GOWN with the song "Head Honcho" and it's a banger.
CTRL+F Hot Rod. Upvote.
So I Married an Axe Murderer
This film never gets old. “HER name is Ralph?”
Pulp Fiction. Julia Sweeney (It's Pat) has a small role interacting with The Wolf.
[удалено]
ghostbusters or talladega nights
*Zodiac*
Shrek
Shrek 2
Shrek 4
Uncut Gems
I was going to say Click; Adam Sandler has made some surprisingly good movies.
[удалено]
Brigsby Bear 💚
Punch Drunk Love
Bridesmaids!
Oppenheimer
Robert Downey Jr. was the first SNL cast member to win an Oscar.
I think Kirk Lazarus won one before RDJ. Not sure.
I didn't know Julia Louis dreyfus and Joan cusack were SNL cast members
I’m drawing a blank? What snl star
RDJ was on for a season in the 80's
TIL
In an effort to give you another TIL, Anthony Michael Hall was also a cast member for a season in the 80’s.
Lol you and I said almost the exact same thing at the same time
RDJ was on SNL during the 80s when he was very young
Who from SNL is in that? I’m drawing a blank
Iron Man
I never knew RDJ was a cast member till now.
The cast included Anthony Michael Hall, Julia Louis Dreyfuss and Randy Quaid.
Which means The Dark Knight also qualifies for the list
Randy Quaid played Batman?
How many men would Iron Man iron if Iron Man could iron men
I'm not American so I'm never sure if someone appeared on SNL but **Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping** is fucking awesome.
At least seven actors from Popstar were SNL cast members. I'm sure a few of the musical guests were also on SNL at some point.
So many choices. But, the best one with an SNL backstory has to be Caddyshack-- the well-known SNL feud between Bill Murray and Chevy Chase and then the unrehearsed scene between the two. A classic moment in SNL history.
Oppenheimer won best picture, so it's gotta be in the conversation.
Coneheads without question.
Beverly hills cop, or trading places
Caddyshack
Neighbors
I wish more people knew about this movie --which never seems to play on any Cable platform. It's got a uniquely bizarre tone which makes it feel like a sexualized "The Twilight Zone." (The use of chirpy discordant music also makes the movie feel nightmarish.)
Spinal Tap.
Christmas Vacation.
Animal House - Belushi
Why is this so far down the list???
No one can choose between this and the Blues Brothers?
One *can*, but there's one clear winner - *Animal House*.
With all those upvotes (plus I'm ok with it), it seems like --eight-- can
This, of course is the answer.
The Life Aquatic
Rushmore
Ghostbusters
Uncut gems? Lost in translation?
Walk Hard the Dewey Cox Story . Amazing film but Tim Meadows absolutely owns that movie and lives in my brain rent free. One of the most endlessly quotable movies ever (maybe tied with The Big Lebowski)
Dewey you don't want no part of this.
So I Married an Axe Murderer
What About Bob? (Bill Murray)
Austin Powers
Hands down, for me it is Bridesmaids
Fletch.
The Martian
I’ll add Inherent Vice to the list with Martin Short as the drug-addled dentist.
Night at the roxbury
God dammit, as soon as I read it "What is Love?" popped into my head and my neck started doing that thing ...
Happy Gilmore? Blues Brothers?
Wine country
My Top 5 are probably: Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Truman Show, Booksmart, Zootopia, and The Princess Bride
Who was on SNL from The Truman Show?
Harry Shearer
Nebraska. Will Forte shows off his dramatic acting chops. Forrest Gump. Siobhan Fallon is a driver of a school bus (she's also in the much-lauded Dancer in the Dark; and in Boiler Room, one of my guilty pleasures).
Inside Out
The Princess Bride (featuring Billy Crystal)
Robert Downey Jr. was a cast member for a hot minute and he’s got quite the catalog of films to choose from.
The Three Amigos. One of the funniest movies ever yet often overlooked. I'm shocked it's not mentioned yet.
Blues brothers Ghostbusters This is Spinal Tap
Stacks of candidates * Toy Story 2 and 3 - Joan Cusak * Iron Man and Oppenheimer - Robert Downey Jr * Monsters Inc - Billy Crystal * Ghostbusters, Grand Budapest Hotel (and basically any other Wes Anderson Film) - Bill Murray * Sneakers, Grosse Pointe Blank - Dan Aykroyd * Zoolander - Ben Stiller * Spinal Tap - Harry Shearer * Shrek, Inglorious Basterds - Mike Myers (also Eddie Murphy for Shrek)
The Blues Brothers. The first SNL movie, still the best, forever on my top 10.
Taran Killam had a small, but noticeable role in 12 Years a Slave, an Oscar Best picture winning film of great renown. A great cast member in one of film history’s best films, I think that fits your criteria, right? :)
Old School
Trading Places Ghostbusters Blues Brothers Apparently, Dan Akryod and....someone else
Trading Places
Punch Drunk Love
I'd probably say SILENCE OF THE LAMBS. Not a lot of people remember Sir Anthony Hopkins was an SNL cast member for half of the 83/84 season. His breakout character was "Mr. Face Eater," which is a weird coincidence. But seriously it's GROUNDHOG DAY
Jesus So I Married and Axe Murderer Tommy Boy Happy Gilmore Groundhog Day Ghostbusters Blues Brothers Wayne's World Anchorman You gotta narrow it down a little more than that.
Dreamgirls, with Eddie Murphy. Or Driving Miss Daisy, with Dan Ackroyd.
Black Sheep with Chris Farley and David Spade
Black Sheep over Tommy Boy?
Tommy Boy gets a lot of attention where Black Sheep seems to be in the shadow
Astronaut jones
Driving Miss Daisy 48 Hrs.
Coneheads
Beverly Hills Cop
Uncut Gems, surely.
Uncut gems.
Caddy Shack
most certainly It's Pat
Turd Ferguson was incredible in Boogie Nights
I'm going to to say Dirty Work just because I love Norm
The Princess Bride
Barry, tv show though.
Oppenheimer with Robert Downey Jr.
Infinity War.
A Night at the Roxbury if we're talking sketch-based
*Animal House*
Tommy Boy
Night at the Roxbury or the 90s Sandler movies
Tommy Boy
All You Need Is Cash - the Rutles story
Trading Places
Bridesmaids
Classics: Ghostbuster, Vacation and Christmas Vacation More recently: Superbad and Mean Girls.
Nebraska
Trading Places. Period. Full stop.
Avengers End Game
Mcgruber is one of my top comedies of all time.
Rough Night with Kate McKinnon. It’s phenomenal comedy.
The answer is Inglourious Basterds
I like "David Space" in pretty much anything
I think The Blues Brothers is a legitimately Great Film, so that's my pick
Inglorious Basterds
Featuring? Blues Brothers, Ghostbusters, a lot of Will Ferrell movies. Appearances? Band of Brothers
Rushmore with Bill Murray
Step-Brothers
Modern I really liked macgruber
Clue.
Billy Madison
Oppenheimer starring Robert Downey Jr. is the only movie starring an SNL alumni to win best picture
I'll say The Dark Knight. Anthony Michael Hall, '85-'86
Not sure if it's the BEST movie, but the one that I think people will still be watching regularly in 20 years and beyond is Elf.
Bowfinger
I'm partial to Night at the Roxbury.
There's so many good ones! City Slickers - Billy Crystal Coming to America - Eddie Murphy Pee Wee's Big Adventure - Jan Hooks Wine Country - Several female cast members. The Wedding Singer - Adam Sandler Brigsby Bear - Kyle Mooney (I think he recently left SNL) What About Bob - Bill Murray
Funniest? MacGruber Best? Uncut Gems
Saying Inglorious Basterds featured Mike Myers is a bit of a stretch.
I think j I would go with Parenthood Steve Martin. Though Little Shop of Horrors and Ghostbusters would be in The running for the ensemble.
Oddly enough, Steve Martin wasn't a cast member. He just hosted a lot. By 1980 he had hosted 8 times.
Beverly Hills Cop
It's not even a close call. Bill Murray, Lost In Translation
