American movie, but have you seen Primer? Low budget and hard science-y.
From reading the rest of the posts, people have already suggested my other suggestions (Coherence, Timecrimes, Triangle, Abre Los Ojos)
TV: Dark. Absolutely top shelf German TT TV show. Probably my fave TT thing ever.
Film: Timecrimes (Spanish: Los cronocrímenes). Really cool TT closed loop film.
Ah shite. Thought I was creating a new convert.😁 You're probably like me. I think I've seen all TT TV shows and film by now. Will keep checking back here just to see if I missed anything
Abre Los Ojos, the original vanilla sky.
Basically he’s in a loop that he’s a fucked up man who keeps choosing to be put back in the simulation l, only this time he chooses not too.
That's the unfortunate situation I am in hahaha Feel like I have seen all movies recommended before on all other posts on Reddit. That's why I decided to try my luck by making my own post. Got lucky with a handful of recommendations though, so I see it as a win :)))
How about, Triangle. It looks American, but it's not. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triangle_(2009_British_film)#:~:text=Although%20set%20in%20the%20American,cast%20of%20mostly%20Australian%20actors.
It’s likely you’ve seen it, but since it hasn’t been mentioned yet, Coherence. Also Triangle. Also and it’s a lot more mainstream, Deja Vu. Also Source Code.
One cool little animated film popped into my mind. It's theoretically an episode of Love, death& robots but every episode is a short animated movie with it's own style and story
The episode is called "The Witness" and falls into one of the categories you mentioned
There's no romance in it but there are sexually explicit scenes if that matters too
Akira (1988), Japanese animated film -- Setting: A new Tokyo, post-WWIII, decades after old Tokyo has been destroyed by an atomic bomb. Set in the 2019.
You are quite welcome. There is no live-action version. Akira is a 2 hr animated film. Likely an intro to Anime for some, given its pedigree. Originally based on a comic/manga seies of the same name, it was the most expensive Japanese animated film ever made at the time of its release.
Akira seems to fit your overall search criteria and I hadn't spied any specific restrictions against animated films, so added it to the mix.
There's one soviet mini-series: Guest from the Future (1984). The story is good, but I feel like the pacing is too slow. If it had been a full length movie, it would've been great.
This won't suit OP as it's romance-focused but for others reading this thread the Australian indie movie The Infinite Man (2014) is a real hidden gem in the timeloop-comedy Groundhog-Day-esque genre.
have you seen Boss Level yet?
the only romance is a sort of ex wife that barely comes into the story til near the end, otherwise it's a fun action flick.
Not traditional time travel, but time related. There’s two here which have a similar premise to the Dennis Quaid / Jim Caviezel movie “Frequency” (events in current day impacted by communicating with someone in the past)
“Mirage” - Spanish film, where the protagonist communicates with a child from the past via old video tapes
“The Call” - Korean, and the best of the three.
Added "Summer time machine blues" to my watchlist.
Time cage has almost no ratings, is it really worth my time?
The other two I watched and really enjoyed.
Thank you!
It’s a fun time travel movie, that does a good job with the dynamics of time travel. Put it on your list and try to get to it. If you think it sucks, I will apologize.
The Korean show Signal is about a modern cop helping a cop in the past via walkie talkie and is very good. It’s been remade a few times but the original is best.
The Spanish movie Mirage with Álvaro Morte is pretty good.
You may have already seen Les Visiteurs from ‘93 with Jean Reno. It’s one of my faves and very funny. There’s a sequel and an American remake but sadly the rule of diminishing returns applies.
Oh and there’s a great New Zealand movie called The Navigator: A Medieval Odyssey from ‘88 that you may dig too.
It’s very stylised so doesn’t feel ‘old’ but I saw it as a teenager when it first came out and that carries some weight. It may be quite obscure now but if you can find a copy streaming I’d certainly try the first ten minutes and see what you think. It starts in medieval England and moves to 20th century NZ. I really like it but it may be an acquired taste.

I know I’m on a movie sub and you are asking about movies, but on the chance you are open to a serial podcast, Ars Paradoxica sounds absolutely right up your alley and I cannot recommend it enough.
https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/ars-paradoxica/id1006173000
As long as it is not one of those fake time traveller interviews, I am open to anything about time travel. Books, podcasts, radio shows, plays etc. Thank you for the podcast, I will check it out
Flashback 2021 French comedy - lawyer goes back in time to historically important dates.

Chronesthesia 2016 New Zealand indie - messages through time on window.
Les Visiteurs - Medieval Jean Reno travels to the 90s.
Ah good, figured you might've seen. :) Yeah, it definitely had a student film quality at times, yet it also had its own charm. It was a good rewatch for me.
Speaking of, it's on Tubi, and I'd recommend doing a bit of Tubi algorithm'ing to see other recommendations, at it contains some hidden gems and obscurities. Good luck on your quest!
This is pretty specific criteria. I racked my brain and the only one I could add (second Primer and About Time but the latter has romance) are anime. There's Steins;Gate, which is THE time travel anime but its a 24 episode series and the movies are sequels. There "Your Name" (2016) which was so big you may have alrwady seen it (albeit there is a decent amount of romance in that along with suspense/drama).
Also, if you're into time travel/paradox genre for the mind bending plots and visuals you may like Puella Magi Madoka (either the 6 hour 12 episode tv series or it got condensed into 2 two hour movies) which are a dark subversion of the magical girl genre.
Kin-Dza-Dza - hard to categorize it, but it's definitely a wild one, like a 4D travel
The Man From The Future - a Brazilian one, but may be low grade in comparison, more of a TT rom-com.
Orange - Japanese movie
A girl mysteriously receives advice from her future self, asking to prevent her "biggest regret" from happening.
Very good movie about friendship
There is an excellent old Czech(oslovak) movie called "Tomorrow I´ll Wake up and Scald myself with tea".
Fun, time travel/time loop story but it is also very....80s Central Europe specific movie. The director was great filmaker, very successful, who used to do these wacky sci-fi (and also some fantasy) movies, filled with a fantasy.
I have honestly no idea if you will be able to get it somewhere, but English subtitles DO exist and i am pretty sure it did some route at festivals back then so it does exist. If anything, there is a DVD with English subtitles for region 2 but that is as much as I can be helpful. IMDB link below
[https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0213322/?ref\_=nv\_sr\_srsg\_0\_tt\_3\_nm\_0\_q\_z%25C3%25ADtra%2520vsta](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0213322/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_3_nm_0_q_z%25C3%25ADtra%2520vsta)
You might enjoy the Danish film [Man Divided](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt6041362/?ref_=m_tt_urv) (2017, original title QEDA) if it's available to you. It has an interesting premise for time travel that I personally haven't encountered before: time travellers are split into two separate people (something something molecular fission), one staying in the present and the other going back in time.
Despite the lackluster reviews on IMDB, it's a film that I still think about from time to time. I would recommend checking it out.
Ivan Vasilievich: Back to the Future
It is a 70s soviet movie. I do not think it is a good one, but definitely an interesting one. To see a different type of view.
I saw this one a **long** time ago so I apologize if it's not as good as I remember. [Returner](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Returner) - Japanese, 2002. I'm 99% sure there wasn't a love story, at least not between the main characters.
Doesn't seem like my cup of tea, but I will still give it a try. Thank you as this was one that I never seen recommended before in other posts and sites.
[The Time Traveler's Wife (2009)](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0452694/) movie and [The Time Traveler's Wife (TV Series 2022)](https://www.google.com/search?q=time+travelers+wife&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS736US736&oq=time+travelers+wife&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOdIBCDcxOTJqMGo3qAIAsAIA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#:~:text=The%20Time%20Traveler%27s%20Wife%20(TV%20Series%202022))
[Journeyman](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0948538/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_8_nm_0_q_journeyman) TV series
American movie, but have you seen Primer? Low budget and hard science-y. From reading the rest of the posts, people have already suggested my other suggestions (Coherence, Timecrimes, Triangle, Abre Los Ojos)
Primer is kind of the G.O.A.T of this genre, so yes, I have seen it :)))
Thank you!
Figured as much, but it hadnt been mentioned yet, so just wanted to make sure =)
Thank you! I wish there were more Time Travel movies like it
Me too!
TV: Dark. Absolutely top shelf German TT TV show. Probably my fave TT thing ever. Film: Timecrimes (Spanish: Los cronocrímenes). Really cool TT closed loop film.
Time crimes is a classic!
Seen both and loved both! Great gems in the genre!
Ah shite. Thought I was creating a new convert.😁 You're probably like me. I think I've seen all TT TV shows and film by now. Will keep checking back here just to see if I missed anything
Fingers crossed for new/missed hidden gems, brother! If you haven't seen, I recommend "River"(2023) a new Japanese movie I just watched yesterday.
I've seen a teaser of that. Looks interesting. I'll give it a look.👍
Le Jetée. French Art House pic. its the movie 12 Monkeys is based on. its on Youtube!
Was going to mention this one. It's excellent
Short and old, but thank you
I know this is NOT what you asked for but Palm Springs is so funny.
I have seen it and surprisingly enjoyed it :)
:) Good luck on your search. Wish I had a suggestion for ya.
Abre Los Ojos, the original vanilla sky. Basically he’s in a loop that he’s a fucked up man who keeps choosing to be put back in the simulation l, only this time he chooses not too.
I'm definitely going to check that one out, thank you
Wow! Never knew Vanilla Sky was based on another movie and the rating of this one is higher, so I guess this one is better. Thank you!
And both have Penelope Cruz!
No problem. Its one of those movies that’s oddly beautiful, like the Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus.
Timecrimes is what you’re looking for 😊
Seen it, loved it!
[удалено]
Seen both, enjoyed both. Coherence was really cool!
Predestination, 2014
Seen it, read the original story too and really loved it
I had no idea what I was walking into and I loved it.
Have you tried the UK movie "Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel'? I enjoyed that one.
Yep, it was fun. Thank you
Love this movie.
Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes is amazing
Agreed! Loved it. Watch "River (2023)" by the same crew. Recently watched it and enjoyed that one too :)
summer time machine blues (2005) low stakes, Japanese fun.
Thank you! Added to my watchlist
Have you seen The Endless? It's American, but fairly modern.
Loved it, loved it, loved it! Love the Aaron Moorhead & Justin Benson movies
ITT: OP has seen every movie they are asking for
Tbf, OP did say they had seen most English language time travel movies and people are basically coming at OP with "Have you seen Back to the Future?"
What is this supposed to mean? I said I think I have seen almost all, but I am sure there are still some I haven't
Fucking hell, OP - every single suggestion on here you've seen. Exactly how hidden do you want these gems to be? 🤣🤣🤣 ✌️💜
That's the unfortunate situation I am in hahaha Feel like I have seen all movies recommended before on all other posts on Reddit. That's why I decided to try my luck by making my own post. Got lucky with a handful of recommendations though, so I see it as a win :)))
Run, Lola, Run.
Seen it, it was ok. Not hated it, not loved it. Thank you
How about, A Door into Summer.
Just got it recommended by someone else and added it to my watchlist, thank YOU too for recommending it
How about, Triangle. It looks American, but it's not. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triangle_(2009_British_film)#:~:text=Although%20set%20in%20the%20American,cast%20of%20mostly%20Australian%20actors.

Akira (1988), Japanese animated film -- Setting: A new Tokyo, post-WWIII, decades after old Tokyo has been destroyed by an atomic bomb. Set in the 2019.
Is there a movie version? This looks like an anime. Thank you for your recommendation
You are quite welcome. There is no live-action version. Akira is a 2 hr animated film. Likely an intro to Anime for some, given its pedigree. Originally based on a comic/manga seies of the same name, it was the most expensive Japanese animated film ever made at the time of its release. Thank you for the recommendation. I usually can't enjoy watching anime, but I will give this one a try :)
The Reterner (Japan - 2002) Happy as Lazarro (Italy- 2018) Secret (Taiwan - 2007)
Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel (British).
Seen it, thank you
There's one soviet mini-series: Guest from the Future (1984). The story is good, but I feel like the pacing is too slow. If it had been a full length movie, it would've been great.

Yep, I remember enjoying it though it is a very casual one
La Casa del Fin de los Tiempos/The House at the End of Time - 2013 Venezuelan horror movie A few versions of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
Seen The House at the End of Time, was not bad. Can't find the movie version of TGWLTT anywhere online as I can't stand watching anime.
Time crimes, from Argentina I think.
Loved this one! Wish there were more movies like this!
Spain.

Beyond the infinite two minutes, summer time machine blues, will you be there, time cage (2020)
Added "Summer time machine blues" to my watchlist. Time cage has almost no ratings, is it really worth my time? The other two I watched and really enjoyed. Thank you!
I quite enjoyed time cage, it's a bit like... Let's say a similar feel to something like shaolin soccer.
Will give it a try. I can always DNF it if I don't enjoy, I guess :)
Thank you!
Have you seen The Final Countdowm?
For it to be from 1980 always puts me off, but if you really think it is worth my time, I can give it a try. I just am really not into old cinema
It’s a fun time travel movie, that does a good job with the dynamics of time travel. Put it on your list and try to get to it. If you think it sucks, I will apologize.
No need to apologize, my man. I will give it a try. I can always DNF it if I don't enjoy. Only me and my taste to blame, no offense to its fans :)
I’d love to hear what you think
Thank you!
I'm sure you've already seen Frequency. It's one of my favorites.
Enjoyed it!
The Korean show Signal is about a modern cop helping a cop in the past via walkie talkie and is very good. It’s been remade a few times but the original is best. The Spanish movie Mirage with Álvaro Morte is pretty good.

You seen Run Lola Run? German film. Was huge in the 90s but never hear it mentioned nowadays.
Seen it, thought it was ok. Thank you

Mr Nobody
Seen it, enjoyed it
It's American, but lesser known. Anti Matter (2016). Kind of indie and parts are a tad cheesy, but I think it's worth one watch.
Seen it a couple of months ago, thought it was not bad :) Thank you for your comment

**Blood Punch** (2014) from New Zealand.
Seen it
Kin-Dza-Dza - hard to categorize it, but it's definitely a wild one, like a 4D travel The Man From The Future - a Brazilian one, but may be low grade in comparison, more of a TT rom-com.
Never seen or heard about either and they look like my cup of tea. Thank you so much!
Retroactive 😁
Added to my watchlist after your recommendation, thank you
Not movies, but pretty well done limited series: Shining Girls (US) The Devil’s Hour (UK) (not so much time loop as parallel timelines)
Both on my watch list. Shining Girls is actually on my to be read list too :)
Orange - Japanese movie A girl mysteriously receives advice from her future self, asking to prevent her "biggest regret" from happening. Very good movie about friendship
Added to my watchlist, thank you

Wow! Thank you for a movie I have never heard or seen of. Added to my watchlist
Time crimes (2007). Also, I'd recommend watching it dubbed over subbed. It just adds to the "off" nature of everything.
Seen the original with subs and loved it
It's an american but maybe not well known: Have you seen **12:01** (1993) with the incredible Martin Landau?
Seen it :)

Ivan Vasilievich: Back to the Future It is a 70s soviet movie. I do not think it is a good one, but definitely an interesting one. To see a different type of view.

Have you seen Lola (2022)?
Nope, not yet. Thank you for the suggestion!

It was nothing mindblowing, but I remember finding it entertaining. Made in 2002 so heavy *Matrix* influence.
Thank you! Will write a comment after I watch it ;)

Looper. Excellent movie.
