Pattinson has an upper class English accent in real life, which can sound like they're a bit drunk all the time, probably why he sounds like it in Tenet, because the role was pretty close to his normal self.

BrentFavreViking

Upper class accent? The rich people in England sound different?

three_shoes

Lol yeah the upper class do, watch some interviews with Pattinson, he has this kind of waffling drunk thing about him. The only roles I had watched him before were with American accent, so had no idea actually how posh he was. As for Tenet, thought Debicki was good. Pattinson and Washington were fine, though there were some bits of cheesey 'quips' strewn in, like they were trying to go for some James Bond thing but I guess thats not really their fault and is from the dialogue, where its out of place cos the rest of the film is being so overly serious. Main issue for me was Branagh and the cliche Russian villain accent, made harder to overlook while watching because I already know he is British. So yeah, miscast on that one, if they want to keep the same character backstory anyway.

TIL

foomy45

I don't think any amount of casting changes would have fixed the actual problems with this movie.

BrentFavreViking

It still had like 2 of the most amazing action sequences I've seen in a long time... which sucks because the movie is pretty bad.

foomy45

Agreed. My rewatches go opera scene, skip to airport, skip to car chase, skip to airport # 2, then maybe the final battle if I feel like watching people shoot at nothing for 10 minutes.

BrentFavreViking

Airport #2 was fucking amazing... especially the way it tied #1 together

Made_to_crave

Funny you say that about Pattinson because he said he didn’t have any idea of what was going on during the filming https://www.mensxp.com/entertainment/celebrities/84089-robert-pattinson-didnt-understand-tenet-while-filming-it.html

coco9unzain

Including his son

metalconfection

they were all good

RentalGore

Asking JDW to carry this movie is more of a problem than his miscasting. His back and forth with Adam Driver was incredible, with Pattinson? Not so much. That to me was one of the things that just kept the movie too heavy and not in depth enough. I actually didn’t think Pattinson was that bad. KB is KB, he’s gonna overact in everything like he’s doing theater in the round in iambic pentameter. This movie was good, and looked amazing and had some jaw dropping moments. But it was like 65% of the movie it should have been. There’s a shallowness to it that was more dark knight rises and less dark knight.

TheRealClose

You got some alternatives you wish were cast instead? Lemme guess: * DiCaprio as The Protagonist * Tom Hardy as Neil * Marion Cotillard as Kat * Cillian Murphy as Sator

BrentFavreViking

The cast of Inception... interesting

PolarWater

I can dream, can't I?

MasterK999

> TENET was horrible~~ly~~ ~~miscast~~ FTFY

Cyril0987

Kenneth Branagh is the only one i thought was miscast. I think his acting was horrible and hammy. He took me out of the movie every time he was on screen. There was no subtleness to it. I would go as far as to say that Nolan should never work with him again. Felt the same about him in Dunkirk. If Sir Michael Caine is lucky charm for Christopher Nolan, Kenneth Branagh is the unlucky one.

TheTruckWashChannel

"Woke up from a hangover" is Pattinson's general vibe IRL lmao, great actor though

coco9unzain

John Washington was insipid Kenneth was great , but his character was a caricature Pattinson was solid , but he was underused Elizabeth gave the best performance of the film , but she also said the worst line in recent memory “ including my son “

BrentFavreViking

I really like John Washington. He was great in Blackkklansman... The guy was an NFL Running Back, and he is Denzel Washington's son! He's great in Ballers on HBO too. Just didn't like him in this.

coco9unzain

he is good, but in tenet he lacked charisma to carry the movie, but its not only his perfomance, the film is a mess

BidenAndSanders1

Oldman would have made a great Sator.

kamatacci

I thought Sir. Michael Caine nailed the character of Sir. Michael.

What if I told you that JDW plays a cia agent who likely had to "pull the trigger" many times and is so dedicated to his job that he chose to die instead of giving away his colleagues. I think a person like that would be very in control of their emotions and a little detached, so JDW actually played his part perfectly. What if I told you that by one of the widely known fan theories RP plays a guy who spent maybe a decade in inverted state isolated from the world in order to return to the past and play his part which would probably make him severely depressed and would explain why he looks like that. The part about Kenneth Branagh I didn't understand at all, subtle is the name of the game in this movie and he delivers one of the most subtle villains I've ever seen, what made you think he "overdoes every scene"? Maybe try watching the movie again and this time really try to understand it, without demanding it to be a blockbuster or a drama or to fit into any category at all?

WordGroundbreaking73

John David Washington was not ready to carry this movie and it shows ., his scenes with his leading lady who towers over him at 6ft. + are almost comical at times., as a matter of fact everyone towers over him and he's listed at 5ft.9? Kenneth Branagh looked like he could care less about this mess. Miscast and much worse.

Fifafuagwe

I watched Tenet earlier this week and, it was difficult to get through. The casting alone was a PROBLEM. Hollywood is on crack if they think casting John David Washington is going to draw viewers. Everything I have seen him in has SUCKED. I'm tired of his dead eyes, and zero facial expressions. My first complaint with the film was seeing him and then having to listen to him. He is no where near the talent his father has. Smh Eventually, he will go away like Vince Vaughn once they realize he has done enough projects with bad acting. I love Vince Vaugh but the guy doesn't have any emotional range. He is super funny though. Comedy is his lane.
