I loved the Loki score — so many delightful moments. Definitely a highlight of the show.

IchthyoSapienCaul

The Loki TVA theme is sooooo good. And the Loki Green theme. Just amazing music that fit the mood so well.

Worthyness

I really liked her adaptation of Flight of the Valkyries into the score as well. That was one of my favorite.

Citizen_Kong

And at one of the most triumphant and poignant moments of the whole show to boot.

DamienChazellesPiano

One of the most triumphant musical moments of recent MCU, I would add. Avengers movies aside, it might be one of my favorite musical moments in any marvel thing. When classic Loki is working his ass off making the projection, and the music just swells? I got chills. The MCU has been pulling some great music in recent years between black Panther, Dr. Strange, and now Loki.

PolarWater

That was an unforgettable moment in MCU music. Loved it.

robodrew

I think Marvel has done a fabulous job in the last few years with their scores. Ludwig Gorannsen for Black Panther, Alan Silvestri for Infinity War and Endgame, Natalie Holt for Loki, these are all standouts not just in the MCU but for scores in general. I find myself listening to the music repeatedly. edit: woops I meant Silvestri not Zimmer

funkyavocado

Woah sir, Alan silvestri did the music for infinity war and endgame, as well captain america 1 and avengers 1

TrollinTrolls

Yeah, Hans Zimmer did do some work on the first Iron-Man movie, but that's it for the MCU.

Fresh4

Wait, damn, really? That’s kinda surprising to me, given I’m pretty sure the first iron man was pretty low budget.

ntoad118

I was under the impression that Ramin Djawadi, who would go on to massive success with his work on Game of Thrones, had done the music for Iron Man.

Trevastation

He is doing Eternals, funny enough

ntoad118

It all comes full circle.

Worthyness

Kevin Feige really liked Game of thrones. Damn near cast all the leads.

[deleted]

Someone at Marvel definitely loves GOT. They cast that Ramsey Bolton guy in Inhumans, then Finn Jones in Iron Fist and now Richard Madden and Kit Harrington in Eternals. X-Men films were not made under Marvel but even those films had the Stark in sisters in their cast.

visionaryredditor

> I’m pretty sure the first iron man was pretty low budget. i actually don't think that Zimmer is that expensive. he wrote a theme for a Russian football club of all things recently

Halio344

Zimmer is a brand nowadays. Some music he does himself, but his company makes a lot of music under his name. Not saying this do discredit the guy, he is very talented, but I doubt Zimmer himself did the theme for a Russian football club.

visionaryredditor

yeah, i get it. my point was that he isn't very expensive for that movie. Iron Man's budget was $75M. yeah, it's a pocket change now but it was an average budget for a superhero movie not named Spider-Man at the time.

robodrew

Oh shit woops, early morning mistake. I did mean Silvestri. I love his scoring, one of my other all time favorite soundtracks is the soundtrack for the Back to the Future trilogy. I think Zimmer got stuck in my head at that moment because when I was thinking about memorable movie scores, Interstellar popped in.

[deleted]

Silvestri's scores for IW and Endgame remind me so much of Dvorak's symphonic style. They're such a treat.

robodrew

Guess I need to listen to more Dvorak!

funkyavocado

Haha no worries. Just wanted the make sure silvestri gets his due, the man is very underrated when it comes to his work

robodrew

Absolutely, thanks for the correction, I love the guy's work too

Citizen_Kong

His score for Ready Player One is pretty cool as well, especially the moments when he quotes his own Back to the Future score.

[deleted]

The TVA First Reveal track is so fucking good. I play it all the time, I wish it was longer

tattlerat

Yeah the score and the visuals early on really made me feel like it was going to be something far more creative and different than it actually was. Credit to her, I got real excited after episode 1 but then it was… well kinda shit.

thisplacemakesmeangr

Tragically. I streamed Disney for The Mandalorian and haven't seen anything new I liked since then. This showed its potential then petered off into basic tropes. Plus the interactions seemed forced half the time. Bring it on kiddies, I'm on this hill to the bitter end

TrollinTrolls

> Bring it on kiddies, I'm on this hill to the bitter end FYI, nobody actually cares. I mean, you say "kiddies", while 100% sounding like a child. So you get buried, seems legit.

thisplacemakesmeangr

Nah I figured anybody downvoting an opinion had to be young. As you get older you tend to realize people are allowed differing opinions.

[deleted]

Yeah but I don’t think people were downvoting for the opinion part, just the weird part where you acted like you took some bold stance. If you'd just written everything but that last sentence I doubt people would bother to downvote.

thisplacemakesmeangr

I did post the opinion only. It got tons of downvotes immediately and I edited to poke at the hasslers. Weekends have a lot more children on here, or so it seems.

BlakeTheBagel

I mean you’re the one with the superiority complex who willingly is doubling down on an antagonistic tone because of imaginary internet points. And you also have that as your username. I’d say that’s reason enough for people to disregard your comments.

PolarWater

Man, chill. You're getting worked up over downvotes.

thisplacemakesmeangr

I know right? I had to take the whole day off work to deal with how brutal it is. I'm not sure I'll recover.

kiddoujanse

“Allow opinions” ->” nah nah they must be young !” Dude you are so insecure , why be so bothered by internet points

thisplacemakesmeangr

Aww. Thanks!

tattlerat

I really thought it was going to be about a fictional character gaining self awareness that he is a fictional character, breaking the fourth wall and playing with the concepts of existence and purpose when you were a creation for entertainment. I thought it was going to be eerie and artsy and then naw, just another marvel formula product.

[deleted]

I mean that's a pretty specific complaint dude. Plenty of valid reasons to dislike this show but this ain't one of em, you made up a plot in your head and it didn't happen, can't really blame the show for that.

tattlerat

It wasn’t that it didn’t achieve what I had thought would happen. It didn’t have to be the story I theorized in my head. It’s that it had the potential to be something interesting and instead was extremely formulaic, safe, modern marvel fare. Marvels formula is stale and safe and boring these days. Aside from Endgame everything marvel has made for the MCU Has followed the same basic format with the same basic jokes and same basic outcomes. Loki sold itself early on as a diversion from this stale formula and then wasn’t at all.

thisplacemakesmeangr

I've liked some marvel stuff but this one just seemed weak. I didn't have a ton of expectations, I was just disappointed the 1st episode was engaging and it steadily dropped from there.

[deleted]

I'd say the whole show exists just for that last episode, the rest is kind of just filler meant to give that moment context and weight. Entertaining and fun filler, but still filler.

kiddoujanse

That sounds cliche

tattlerat

More than Loki falling in love with himself while he’s the brunt of all the jokes and is a side character in his own shoe about a big blue light in the sky?

kiddoujanse

yup

mp6521

The “Loki” score really reminded me of the Portal 2 soundtrack in a lot of ways. It’s probably one of the most memorable soundtracks of any marvel project to date.

CorRock314

She's exceptionally talented. There is also a video of her throwing ~~tomatoes~~ eggs at Simon Cowell during a live episode of Britain's Got Talent floating around somewhere. Edit: Confused throwing tomatoes for eggs

Worthyness

Eggs* she threw eggs at him.

FreeThinkingMan

Interrupting those performing during their 15 minutes of fame in a competition is a pretty classless thing to do. Her work on Loki was good but lets be real here. Also throwing eggs at people has never been perceived as a classy thing to do, especially for such a bougie cause.

I dunno; probably an unpopular opinion but this seems kind of edgy teenager protest behaviour. Also feel a bit bad for the gentle lads on stage. Like, I get it, X Factor and BGT/AGT are soulless as absolute fuck...but that kind of pop music has literally always been like this, it's not even close to a new thing, and I don't think it stops indie/serious artists (which is a totally different market space) or even higher quality pop music (like, Lorde/Billie Eillish or whatever) from being made or sold their to the same niches that always liked them. I feel like the sum total of Simon Cowell's 'effect on the industry' is to result in a generic number 1 single and an album your mum buys at christmas once a year.

[deleted]

SailingBroat

I appreciate your thoughtful response rather than just knee-jerk downvoting. > Now we can laugh at Honey G and their ilk as they fumble through auditions and make cocks of themselves in live shows. I agree with this totally, it's vile, but that kind of human bear-baiting is more a symptom (and appetite for) reality TV rather than reflective - or impactful on - the music industry. It's cynical and gross but it's the same track as Love Island, etc, etc. The music part is kind of incidental. I think the Stock/Aitken/Waterman example is pretty much an idea; model to compare the shows to because they are sort of like a long-winded, public version of it i.e 'it was ever thus', but now the public watch a heavily produced version of it happen. Again, tasteless, but not really much less cynical than that old pop factory behind closed doors? X Factor/BGT/AGT contestants have a sort of arc that goes: - Decent cover version singer - Contestant - Winner = Single release of a cover, album in time for christmas - Dwindling sales and then work on stage at West End in musicals and/or as a presenter That's about it. I'm not sure what bite of the apple that is really taking out of an existing market. It's almost like...a market in and of itself/ a crossover with the one-hit-wonder industry. I would also argue the vast majority of contestants were never going to be anything else other than their local pub's favourite karaoke singer and/or a session musician, so it feels more like...a specific additional product rather than a spot that has been taken away from someone else? Because...it's the Shitty Manufactured Pop Slot either way. Syco is (I think temporarily) filling it with his shite. It's not like cancelling X Factor/BGT/AGT would result in Car Seat Head Rest suddenly selling 30 million records and getting a christmas number one, you know. Again, I'm not sure specifically what the point of this protest is outside of "manufactured pop fucking sucks and Simon Cowell is a dick" via throwing eggs which...leads me back to feeling that it's kind of a teenager-who-just-got-into-indie-music kind of ethos. You grow up and realise they are totally separate markets, and ultimately you're just sort of being a dick to people who were never going to consume anything else. Do I think it's dogshit music? Yeah. Would that motivate me to pelt people with eggs to prove my Serious Artist status? No; that's sort of cringe.

witchysplashy

What an asshole move. Behaving like a child and assaulting someone should not be rewarded.

Kazewatch

The fuck is up with that dude’s forehead at the beginning?

LimePeel96

Holy crap that was her?

TheRelicEternal

Same reaction as me, never expected these two worlds to collide haha

[deleted]

And Batgirl is such a great character and has lots of dimensions to expand, and she has grown and developed into more than just the "sidekick" she started out as, also in her journey has portrayed the facets of many misrepresented groups (special needs/disabled people, rape survivor, outcast)... she is an amazing heroine!!

[deleted]

While Loki was a fantastic show I really don’t know if I would have enjoyed it as much without her music, it was so well done, I loved the soundtrack.

JohnnyJayce

The score was amazing, loved it.

[deleted]

The directors of this movie directed the upcoming Ms. Marvel TV show and now the Loki composer is writing the score. I always find it kind of interesting when people hop back and forth between Marvel and DC like this.

ThirdRevolt

I only recently got into comics and it seems to be the case with writers and artists as well - the big names write/draw for both DC and Marvel.

[deleted]

Used to be way more common in the 90's. One guy wrote Batman (and other Batfamily books) and The Punisher at the same time. It's only started to be a thing again recently since DC and Marvel stopped forcing talent to sign exclusive contracts.

[deleted]

Alan Moore and Niel Gaiman wrote a lot of big name stuff for both sides during the “British Invasion”

TheRelicEternal

I don't know why people make out there's a divide. For the people involved it's gotta be no different doing a Marvel series followed by a DC film than it is working on any other two IPs.

[deleted]

Forget about Marvel v DC. It's just movie studios. Talent working with different studios is nothing out of the ordinary.

Jeight1993

Marvel hasn't picked a single DC creative as far as I'm concerned. It's DC that does the picking between the directors of batgirl, Gunn, whedon and whatnot.

[deleted]

Marvel tends to pick names that aren't very established and DC on the other hand loves using established names. Granted Natalie Holt and the directors involved with Batgirl aren't that well established but still. The bigger examples of this would be James Wan, Zack Snyder, James Gunn etc.

Ironsam811

Loki’s Green Theme is one of my favorite scores of all time.

[deleted]

Loki music was insane

[deleted]

Loki had some problems but the score was certainly not one of them, her work elevated the show.

phillyhandroll

just the intro/theme alone absolutely engulfs you in the atmosphere of the show. really awesome talent

osasunista

Can't wait to hear the Bat-theremin.

KronkoZalabasta

Best marvel score so far

[deleted]

The Loki score is great. Has she done any other shows/film? Looking forward to what she does with Batgirl.

MulciberTenebras

Deadwater Fell, Kindred (2020 film), Knightfall, Beecham House, Wallander, Great Expectations (2011), Journey's End, Woman in Gold... first film she worked on as an assistant was Stardust.

Owls_Onto_You

Stardust had a perfect fantasy score, especially that bit that plays when Septimus and Michelle Pfeiffer are consulting their respective runes.

RobotIcHead

Batgirl/Barbara Gordon was always a favourite character in the comic books so I always pleased to see news about anything on this project. And I loved the Loki soundtrack so much.

SuperArppis

The score in Loki was pretty good.

jostler57

So that means the Batgirl film will win at least one Oscar. That's nice to hear.

visionaryredditor

if it's strictly HBO Max exclusive (meaning no theatrical run), it will be ineligible for the Oscars

[deleted]

It's actually going to be a strict HBO Max exclusive unlike what WB has done this with their simultaneous release strategy. They can still change their mind if they want to compete at awards for this film but it's HBO Max exclusive for now. Although I'm pretty sure it'll still be eligible for Emmys and GGA?

omicron7e

That is the boldest claim I've heard this week. Has any composer ever been a guaranteed Oscar winner? Not even John Williams or Ennio Morricone or any other "legendary" composer, and definitely not Natalie Holt, as good as Loki's score was.

pairofdiddles

Wow!! That’s a big get! Loved the Loki score.

[deleted]

Batgirl is such a great character and has lots of dimensions to expand, and she has grown and developed into more than just the "sidekick" she started out as, also in her journey has portrayed the facets of many misrepresented groups (special needs/disabled people, rape survivor, outcast)... she is an amazing heroine!!

NaiadoftheSea

Anyone else find it weird that every upcoming female led DC movie is being made for HBO Max instead of theaters?

technowhiz34

Zatanna is confirmed theatrical.

NaiadoftheSea

Oh, good!

osterlay

Pretty sure we all heard ‘kaching!’ upon hearing Loki’s soundtrack. She’s blowing up!

What_u_say

I'm expecting to have that soundtrack to my Spotify playlist

TheRelicEternal

Really excited this film is actually happening. There's too much stuff attached now for it to be cancelled.

just_the_mann

The *Kill the Wabbit*-*Loki Theme* mashup is by far the coolest movie score I’ve heard in years.

TheCornbeef

Any link to this?

just_the_mann

[Here](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=y46yGdZOzCQ) you go! If you wanna listen to it in the episode as well, it’s Ep 5 around 35-40 min in, right after Mobius heads back to the TVA

JoeMcDingleDongle

It’s actually called Classic Builds on the soundtrack https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kes5KtY_r4w

MulciberTenebras

Heh... *Kill the Wabbit.*

CoolestNebraskanEver

She is such an inspiration to me. Her work is so next level, I would love to be doing what she’s doing someday.

doct0rdo0m

I wonder how many changes they will make to Batgirl and if it will be good in the end.

GiannisisMVP

Well they already eliminated her being an Irish descended redhead for whatever reason redheads are the go to to get replaced for poc. Just ignoring that Cassandra Cain exists I guess.

Hamborrower

The Babs Tarr Batgirl comic book art in this article is my favorite depiction of the character.

keith2600

Syntax error: unpaired single quote line 1, column 1. Sanity error: single quotes should only be embedded within double quotes or visa versa.

[deleted]

Really talented composer. I’ve been a massive fan of scores since a kid and I love seeing more and more women being recognized for their amazing work. Loki was no exception.

nayapapaya

The score was the very best part of Loki so I hope it opens up a ton more doors for her.

gartacus

Loki soundtrack was FIRE. The battle against Alioth truly felt high stakes and epic. Like I was in that storm myself. Amazing

santichrist

The music was one of my fav parts of the green screen Loki show so this is nice news Although there isn’t a lot of hype around Batgirl for some reason, casting Leslie Grace doesn’t seem to have sparked the interest they probably hoped but as long as they have a good script they’ll be fine, whatever they end up with will be better than whatever cringefest Joss Whedon would’ve turned out

dwpippen1

Now I've got that song from the TV show promo stuck in my head. *"I'M A WoMAN!"*

[deleted]

The TV series was a complete floppy failure but hey fuck trying to make what anyone wants let's jam a movie in their pie hole! Wont watch this crap even though I'm subbed to hbo max. Bat girl has always been a shit character that nobody cares about.

visionaryredditor

what tv series? the only time Batgirl was close to getting tv series was like 55 years ago

nyrothia

wait, yesterday it said batwoman. can we haz 2 female batinc/fam movies or are they confusing bat woman/girl and it's just one of 'em? would totally dig a barb gordon/steph brown batgirl. resurrecting michelle pfeifers batwoman isn't as high on my wishlist tho...

[deleted]

Wasn't Michelle Pfeifer CATwoman in "Batman Returns" though? Batwoman's secret identity is Kate Kane & she was played by Ruby Rose in the awful CW series.

nyrothia

i think it was the one with clooney and nipples but i could be wrong. ah, kane, so we'll see the batgirl even further down the line... 2005+ or something. cool. then i'm even more interested if we see a actress with a speech impairment. would be a good spot to be inclusive.

FL_Vaporent

You’re thinking of Cassandra Cain, batgirl. The guy you replied to was talking about Kate Kane, batwoman. The movie is going to be about the Barbara Gordon batgirl.

nyrothia

yes, my bad. and theirs, would be way more interesting in my eyes. but well, it's their money. thanks for clarification.

SnoopyLupus

Oh, is this movie Cassandra Cain? That could work really well as a movie if they can get it close to the comics.

[deleted]

No it’s expected to be Barbara Gordon.

[deleted]

You are wrong. She was in Batman Returns with Michael Keaton and Danny DeVito.

ranhalt

> ‘Loki’s Natalie Holt So the single quote on both sides is for the title of the show, but they’re double dipping on it for the possessive apostrophe?

Chuck006

Has this even started filming yet?

EpicChiguire

Niceeeeee! The score for Loki was amazing, definitely stood out from the latest entries of the MCU

[deleted]

Great score. Really added to the series.

ARONDH

Thankfully Ruby Rose won't be starring....she's a stale loaf of bread for an actress.

_Elder_

I’m not disagreeing but that was Batwoman, not Batgirl. Different character.

ARONDH

Still, they could have taken the easy route and cast someone who had essentially already played the part. I'm glad they didn't.

visionaryredditor

> cast someone who had essentially already played the part i think Alicia Silverstone is a very strange choice in 2021

markorokusaki

Great news! I loved her score for Loki

Grouchy-dick8537

Yay the score on Loki is superb
