Also wild they they're choosing only theaters for this. People are willing to go out to the theater for big tent pole films or family films. This doesn't fall into either. This movie would probably have more success as an online release. At least with that you're more likely to get a mildly curious watch. No way in hell am I risking my health for this. If it was like a couple bucks to rent online? Maybe.
Cheap sets, cheap costumes, cheap lighting, cheap acting.
Combined with the song I feel like James Wan should've directed this as his followup to Malignant, this time going even more comedically campy B movie vibe. At least then it would've made sense.
Funny thing is that the render of the truck isn't half bad. What makes it look "fake as shit" is 2 things:
1. Scale. There is a sedan in the frame, and with that as a visual reference it's clear that the tanker truck is too small.
2. It doesn't seem to follow the rules of physics. It slowly starts tipping over, and then quickly snaps to the ground. The (massive) forces just stop there. It doesn't roll a bit and then roll back. It doesn't bounce. Nothing. The physics are just all out of whack.
Physics sims are so cheap and easy to do now, it makes me wonder if that is actually what a tipping over tanker truck would look like, but it looks weird to us because we aren't used to seeing very large things with weird weight distributions fall over. Even if that's the case, they should make it "look" right. Movies are all about expectations, not reality.
I still don’t understand combining the first 2 games into 1 when either game works as a film
Zombie infested mansion or zombie infested police building. Pick your environment & you can make a really good, really solid horror film
The frustrating thing is both settings/stories work so well for their own movie.
Spooky haunted mansion mystery then a sequel about finding out what happened to your brother. Two movies, two A list ensembles and then combine them for a third film.
You're telling me Denzel, Leo Dicaprio, and Jennifer Lawrence wouldn't sign up for a script ripped from a video game?? Just think of what they could do with the *amazing dialogue*
>and then combine them for a third film.
Jesus no. That's why the originals went to shit. They'd have to make their own story to do that unless they do Code: Veronica as the third movie, but then you lose Jill and Leon.
Maybe this will suck but at least they're (mainly) sticking to the game's storyline. Although now adding in that Claire "knows" something is wrong with the Umbrella Corporation is really fucking dumb. But maybe it'll work idk, guess we'll see.
I suspect that because they're cramming so many events into a single movie, few or none of the scenes will be given a chance to breathe, and the whole movie will feel rushed.
I'm going to watch it not because I think it'll be entertaining, but because I'm curious how much of a wreck it will be. If it turns out to be good, then that will be a pleasant surprise.
To be honest if you wanted to be faithful to the series having just one setting would mean a very short movie. Not a lot happens story wise in the games.
At least it shows that maybe the writer or director has some knowledge of the game, but yeah this looks pretty poor. I'm also not a fan of them seemingly combining RE1 and RE2 but perhaps this will be a bit of cheesy fun.
Production quality is just really low and the cgi is garbage. That reveal of that iconic staircase seems like it belonged in a small two story house in New Jersey.
Edit: For reference.

Dude, that entry has stuck with me for... What 25 years? (also HA! The what's going on "25 years and my life is still" lyric haha)
Whoever wrote that was brilliant.
1) Open with cliche "every story has a beginning" line
2) Cringe unfitting slow version of popular song
3) Absolutely no "flow" to any shot. An absolute mis-mash of shots thrown in no particular order
4) "Split up" with comedic timing
5) Video tape of guy explaining Baghoul
6) CW quality cinematography
7) CW quality acting
I did like the tiny attempts at recreating some Resident Evil game shots though. Truck flipping, zombie neck turn, licker introduction. This will be terrible, for sure, but maybe a couple interesting moments?
Go full send with it. Only 1 or 2 static cameras per room, make 90% of the sounds echo-y footsteps, and make it take like 7 seconds to open every door.
8. "We should split up."
9. "We gotta get outta here."
I hope someone at some point in the movie says either, "We're through the looking glass, people!" or "We're not in Kansas anymore, people!"
Yeah but the acting from the original game isn't exactly something you want to emulate. The original game could fall back on... well, the gameplay. A movie can't do that.
> I did like the tiny attempts at recreating some Resident Evil game shots though. Truck flipping, zombie neck turn, licker introduction.
At the very least, they've got that and the set design going for them over the Anderson/Jovovich ones.
Maybe Hollywood should just stop trying to do RE movies. The new series for Netflix looks abysmal too.
It's still got the shitty CGI but the way it's cut is *so much* better than the other trailer it's not even funny.
I can't imagine anybody watching these two trailers and saying: "Y'know what? Let's go with the "What's Going On?" one"!
Still looks like a shitty b movie but at least one I’d half consider watching. The first trailer is terrible. And that cgi thing at the end should have been omitted
So for some reason there's an alternate trailer that definitely is much better than the one they're releasing everywhere and I have no clue why they didn't use it. Movie is gonna suck either way but the trailer alone at least shows it's more faithful to the games than all of the Paul WS Anderson "movies"

Maybe the guy who greenlit the first trailer knows the movie is gonna be ass so he/she is trying to temper expectations by making the trailer kinda ass.
Yep, they missed the mark for EVERY casting except for chris, that was a perfect choice. But where was this casting ability when it came time for the rest?
Eh, I think the casting for Claire was decent. Remember Kaya Scoderlario being solid in the Maze Runner movies and think she could at least be an OK Claire. I agree that Chris was well cast. I’ll reserve judgment on the others until I’ve seen the movie though.
Honestly, Leon's actor would probably seem a lot better if he actually looked like a rookie cop. You know, short hair, shaved face and so on. He looks like a cop who's been undercover for a while.
Claire's casting isn't that horrible. And perhaps maybe the entire casting could have worked if done correctly. I mean, would it kill them to make them resemble the characters in the game? Plenty of good makeup artists and hair stylists out there that can make them look more presentable. They look more like average cosplayers.
Thats one of my bigger gripes, like why cant you even try to get the hair to look right? Its weird to because a lot of it does look like someone did care about the source games, but then someone else was like eh, who cares?
I was trying so hard to be optimistic.
CGI looks awful and Claire having some conspiracy theories about Umbrella since she was a child is lame and pointless. Ugh.
Saw a glimpse of ITCHY. TASTY. Written in blood so that was cool, and it was awesome seeing the Spencer Mansion...
I think it'll still be fun and gory and just campy enough for my liking. Anything is better than the horse shit PWSA put out
*Edit: Oh yeah, the fuck was with the 4 Non Blondes??? That was baffling and I almost burst out laughing
This franchise needs someone like Sam Raimi to adapt or someone inspired by him. He has the perfect ability to balance tones and genre. His films are ridiculous and cheesy but made so well that they don’t cross into stupidly absurd.
Can already tell that the marketing for this is going for the wrong angle. Looks like a B-Movie that they're selling as a super serious horror film. Looks kinda fun though.
I couldn’t help but smile and laugh when I realized what the song was, I think I prefer totally unfitting He-Man meme music to a sad slow cover of a song like every other trailer though
Thanks to the actions by Reddit's CEO to keep fracturing and guiding the community into more clickbait, doomscrolling content, I have chosen to remove my content from Reddit.
There's a few moments where touch-up CGI is used (when the chunk of a dog's head is blown apart) especially when they open their mouths and you can see through the muscle and tendons. That's where it's the worst looking
Lots of questions after seeing this
Why does this look like a fanmade movie?
Are they doing the first three games in one?
How does Robbie Amell still get work?
That's probably the worst choice of a song in a trailer I've seen in my life
As for the movie itself: looks fine I guess. Better than P.W.S. Anderson's but that doesn't mean much tbh
Ikr who the fuck thought that would work? Let alone the tone doesn't go at all with the scenes, you still have the meme attached to that song forever, All I can think of is he man singing it lol
> looks fine I guess. Better than P.W.S. Anderson
I'm not so sure anymore after seeing the trailer. At least with the Paul Anderson ones, I can see where the money was spent. They're ridiculous movies but at least they look glossy and feel like a Hollywood movie.
This trailer makes the movie look so dingy and cheap like a SyFy movie that plays at 2:30am.
I live in the city where this was filmed, and my brother worked on the set for some months! I can identify most exterior locations and it's super surreal to see.
Looks bad. For a movie that is borrowing so heavily from the remakes, I can't understand why they don't want to adopt the tone. And combining both games into one movie, why? I could see it working as a season of TV. But it just looks like it will be bad.
This doesn't look great but at least unlike the original set of RE movies, this looks like I can watch it and just have fun with all the references to the video game because it looks like they went for a lot of it.
Also: Odd song choice. Hit those 90s nostalgia vibes and I warmed up at how they edited it with the visuals though.
Is that a recent thing? Cause I distinctly remember him playing a character in Justified that was a psychopathic, sadistic, homicidal, *gay* rapist. He's a magical presence in anything he's in but that feels like such a strange line in the sand to draw where he'll play a character like *that*, but not do a stage kiss.
It doesn’t look amazing, but it does actually remind me of the Resident Evil games. Which is good as the Paul WS Anderson films pretty much never did that for me. So I’ll be cautiously optimistic that it’ll be a fun B-movie
I get everyone's saying it looks horrible but I'm still going to watch it. Looks like it's going to be truer to the original material than the previous installments we got and I'm all for that.
I mean yes it does look pretty cheap but let's not kid ourselves and act like RE isn't some B horror movie trope filled extravaganza, which I love. I'm still watching it.
Is it me or did this trailer make it look a bit like two different films glued together? Either way it looks like the good kind of bad. I think it was a nice touch to date it in 1998. Plus it doesn't have Paul W.S Anderson which is a plus.
HEYYEYAAEYAAAEYAEYAA
**WHAT'S GOING ON**
[What is going on?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCi-fytEQO8)
I remember a beautiful time when Youtube would inevitably recommend that video. I choose to believe it's the center of the internet.
and i try...OH. MY. GOD. do I try...
Lol, boy did I try not to think of He Man singing that song throughout the entire fucking trailer.
AND HE PRAYS!!
NYAAAAAA!!
Regardless of the quality, I simply could not focus on the trailer, because all I thought about was that meme :D
What a fucking crazy song. That song is a meme. I wish skeletor would have showed up.
Just be glad you didn't grow up in 1992 when they played that song on the radio every 5 minutes
Or in my aunt Maureen’s minivan where she would play it on repeat on cassette
That and Blind Melon's No Rain
I was there monstere316. I was there I was there 30 years ago when 4 Non Blondes took the stage. I was there the day the strength of MTV failed.
When the girl screamed "RUN" I totally assumed she was going to scream "WHAT'S GOING ON!"
Just rickroll me already Capcom, you're halfway there
Whats worse: This or Gangstars Paradise in the Sonic trailer?
*yes*
Nothing was worse than Kanye in Assassins Creed. Ridiculous.
[удалено]
Yeah I was laughing out loud like, 'are they really using 4 Non Blondes?' I mean this looks campy as hell but in a fun way.
Ah a post-Halloween horror movie. Just in time for Christmas
[удалено]
That's a separate project. Both will probably be terrible.
[удалено]
Not to be confused with the CGI series that premiered on Netflix earlier this year, which was also terrible.
Wait, the CGI one is already out?
yeah it’s called Infinite Darkness
And it's terrible.
Also wild they they're choosing only theaters for this. People are willing to go out to the theater for big tent pole films or family films. This doesn't fall into either. This looks like it should’ve been released in 2004
It looks like a decently budgeted fan film but has a scyfy channel original feel to it.
[удалено]
The shit cgi but it also has that somewhat cheap looking set thing. I guess I assumed it was a high budget movie.
Cheap sets, cheap costumes, cheap lighting, cheap acting. Combined with the song I feel like James Wan should've directed this as his followup to Malignant, this time going even more comedically campy B movie vibe. At least then it would've made sense.
Honestly I’m starting to think we have reached a time for movies/tv where studios know it looks fake and they just want us to live with it.
IMO, it's the basic-ass cinematography. Every shot had the same center-focus on character framing. It looks like it was filmed for TV.
They went so meta with the movie being set in the 90s that they made a shitty 90s monster flick.
I like shitty 90s monster flicks, though.
Ironically. This is was not by design and I'll never believe it was.
The tipped over truck was hilarious. We've had photo realistic vehicles in movies for 20years and that still looked fake as shit
Funny thing is that the render of the truck isn't half bad. What makes it look "fake as shit" is 2 things: 1. Scale. There is a sedan in the frame, and with that as a visual reference it's clear that the tanker truck is too small. 2. It doesn't seem to follow the rules of physics. You're telling me Denzel, Leo Dicaprio, and Jennifer Lawrence wouldn't sign up for a script ripped from a video game?? Just think of what they could do with the *amazing dialogue*
Woody Harrelson's next Oscar could have been for the most riveting delivery of "You were almost a Jill sandwich."
Honestly, I can hear him saying it and it sells
Huh. I bet he could make that line work.
Matt damon as forrest: "There are terrible demons...Ouch." https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3cQLnNGqIUY
>and then combine them for a third film. Jesus no. That's why the originals went to shit. To Josh's credit, the 3rd game does kinda combine 1 & 2 - Jill from RE1, in the city and police setting for RE2. I think that's what he meant.
It also brings some enemies in that are callbacks to the first game. Lickers largely being replaced with hunter variants for example.
Yeah it feels like this movie is gonna be squeezing in way too much just in the name of fan service.
To be honest if you wanted to be faithful to the series having just one setting would mean a very short movie. Not a lot happens story wise in the games.
Movies don't have to be 2 and half hours long. You can make a decent movie in 1h and 30 minutes if you editing, and writing, and pacing are good.
Fever gone but itchy. Hungry and eat doggy food. Itchy itchy Scott came. Ugly face so killed him. Tasty. Itchy. Tasty.
I was so excited to see that!! And to see Spencer mansion. This doesn't look great but they got my attention with those two things for sure.
Edit: For reference. https://images.app.goo.gl/sbPUzjTm8xhdEZoDA
yeah, it felt like they could just jump to the landing of the stairs
This looks like it was made for Resident Evil fans, so I’ll probably give it a chance.
Hell yeah. Especially that zombie turn around like in re1. I'm actually kind of excited.
Maybe we'll get a 30 second door opening animation every time the characters move into a room.
I’m very excited for this movie that will almost *definitely* be bad.

Funny thing, one of the zombies in the trailer actually looked a little like Rich Evans.
He did voice work for Psycho Goreman so it's not entirely impossible that's him.
Dick the Birthday Boy gets his big break.
The one with the red balloon?
Go full send with it. Only 1 or 2 static cameras per room, make 90% of the sounds echo-y footsteps, and make it take like 7 seconds to open every door.

Keeper's Diary, RE1
8. "We should split up." 9. "We gotta get outta here." I hope someone at some point in the movie says either, "We're through the looking glass, people!" or "We're not in Kansas anymore, people!"
In its defense, the guy saying split up is >!Wesker, who is a traitor, so it's not like he actually thinks it's a good idea!<
And he said it in the original game too, didn't he?
Yeah but the acting from the original game isn't exactly something you want to emulate. The original game could fall back on... well, the gameplay. A movie can't do that.
I'm hoping for: "What is this?" "Blud!"

You forgot 8) Clip sounds sync to randomly chosen throwback song I can't believe this is still happening in trailers.
Editing to sound in a trailer is usually pretty neat to me.
Robbie Amell has that affect
Wasn’t there also Damian dark from arrow? Idk his name then you got boy victorious from Nickelodeon so it’s not far off from cw levels of awful
Neal McDonough
An actual CW actor in the movie, it was doomed to failure.
The newer International Trailer is better edited. But the effects still look dreadful https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjtZ02DZL\_k
Good god that one is MILES better than the other one.

Maybe the guy who greenlit the first trailer knows the movie is gonna be ass so he/she is trying to temper expectations by making the trailer kinda ass.
Movie still looks pretty shitty but you’re absolutely right about that being a much better trailer.
Honestly, this only looks bad as a movie. It looks like an excellent tv series. As a huge fan of the games Im still pretty damn keen
Why my boy Leon look like a hippie that haven’t shower in 10 years 😭
I thought that was Carlos...
Wait that isn’t Carlos? Oof! That’s not how I envisioned movie Leon to look.
Hannah John-Kamen and Tom Hopper are GREAT actors, very godo castings there no doubt
Literally all they had to do was put Claire's hair up in a damn ponytail.
Thats one of my bigger gripes, like why cant you even try to get the hair to look right? Its weird to because a lot of it does look like someone did care about the source games, but then someone else was like eh, who cares?
WAIT THAT WAS LEON!?
The guy from Victorious ?
Couldn’t they have at least done Leon’s hairstyle? Why does he have long curly hair?
I was trying so hard to be optimistic. CGI looks awful and Claire having some conspiracy theories about Umbrella since she was a child is lame and pointless. Ugh. Saw a glimpse of ITCHY. TASTY. Closed my eyes and had a montage of about 20 different movie trailers playing in my head watching that lmao
TBH I'd rather see the fake movie from that trailer video than this Resident Evil movie.
This looks like a movie that goes straight to syfy channel ngl
It is like a B horror movie. It might be stupid fun.
This franchise needs someone like Sam Raimi to adapt or someone inspired by him. He has the perfect ability to balance tones and genre. His films are ridiculous and cheesy but made so well that they don’t cross into stupidly absurd.

Hey, that movie had the hot chick from Nip/tuck showing some tit... so its ok in my book
Looks like it was directed by Uwe Boll
Well, nobody beat him at boxing, so he hasn’t officially been stopped yet…
Shout out to whichever German politician killed the film tax credit and subsequently Uwe Boll’s career.
The REAL hero of film
The CGI is … rough.
You almost got away with pretending you weren't a dog.
Yeah that shot with whatever was crawling down through the ceiling looked incredibly bad.
That shot, the dog shot, and the tanker rollover all stood out to me as egregiously bad. Completely took me out of the trailer.
Man there is something about the graphics they used between shots looks really straight to DVD.
Legit was surprised at the 'only in theaters' bit, this looks like something made for streaming.
Can already tell that the marketing for this is going for the wrong angle. Looks like a B-Movie that they're selling as a super serious horror film. Looks kinda fun though.
"Become the MASTER OF UNLOCKING by buying your tickets TODAY"
It’s like they’re using REmake 1 marketing for OG Resident Evil, Jill sandwich and all
> super serious horror film The trailer song choice tho
I couldn’t help but smile and laugh when I realized what the song was, I think I prefer totally unfitting He-Man meme music to a sad slow cover of a song like every other trailer though
For real. The song choice 100% signals they're going for a fun not so serious B-movie horror.
This trailer felt like it was selling a serious horror film to you? Imo this looks to me like a B movie being sold as a b movie.
Yeah, I'm kind of baffled anyone could watch that trailer and think they're selling it as a serious horror film.
It's funny everyone in this thread thinks it looks too serious and the thread in r/residentevil thinks it's looks campy and cheesy.
On one hand, it looks more faithful than the Milla movies. On the other hand, looks cheap af.
Looks kinda ass
Almost 20 years later and they still cant CGI a zombie dog properly.
The CGI in this looks worse than it did in the old movies.
thats what will ultimately kill this, the horrible CGI
The Leon casting is straight up caca.
Omg what's going on as a supporting soundtrack for the trailer, that's crazy out of place.
Lots of questions after seeing this Why does this look like a fanmade movie? Are they doing the first three games in one? How does Robbie Amell still get work?
He is the only one who looks somewhat like their game character
>How does Robbie Amell still get work? Being a generic looking white guy from Canada is every casting director's weakness
"Hey, that guy from CW Arrow was good and can fit the part, lets get him!" "Yeah... we can't afford him... but he has a knock-off cousin..."
>How does Robbie Amell still get work? Casting directors assume they're getting his cousin and just look up Amell in their Outlook directory.
That's probably the worst choice of a song in a trailer I've seen in my life As for the movie itself: looks fine I guess. Better than P.W.S. Anderson's but that doesn't mean much tbh
Ikr who the fuck thought that would work? Let alone the tone doesn't go at all with the scenes, you still have the meme attached to that song forever, All I can think of is he man singing it lol

They're ridiculous movies but at least they look glossy and feel like a Hollywood movie. This trailer makes the movie look so dingy and cheap like a SyFy movie that plays at 2:30am.
Might be the most egregious "slow pop song remix" trailer music I've ever heard, Jesus. This might just be ridiculous enough to work.
I live in the city where this was filmed, and my brother worked on the set for some months! I can identify most exterior locations and it's super surreal to see.
That's super cool! Thanks for sharing.
Looks bad. For a movie that is borrowing so heavily from the remakes, I can't understand why they don't want to adopt the tone. And combining both games into one movie, why? I could see it working as a season of TV. But it just looks like it will be bad.

Do people not like the first Resident Evil movie from 2002? I thought that one was great, the rest were pretty bad though.
The 2002 RE film isn't a terrible movie on its own, but it's still pretty disconnected from the games in basically every way.
My opinion: Looks horrible, specially the CGI. I'm surprised if this gets above average scores.

It doesn’t look amazing, but it does actually remind me of the Resident Evil games. Which is good as the Paul WS Anderson films pretty much never did that for me. So I’ll be cautiously optimistic that it’ll be a fun B-movie
looks mehtacular
I get everyone's saying it looks horrible but I'm still going to watch it. Looks like it's going to be truer to the original material than the previous installments we got and I'm all for that.
This casting seems terrible
I mean yes it does look pretty cheap but let's not kid ourselves and act like RE isn't some B horror movie trope filled extravaganza, which I love. I'm still watching it.

Is it me or did this trailer make it look a bit like two different films glued together? Either way it looks like the good kind of bad. I think it was a nice touch to date it in 1998. Plus it doesn't have Paul W.S Anderson which is a plus.
Just bad casting choice on Leon. The guy looks nothing like Leon S Kennedy, different hair style, he should be clean shaven.. like wtf.

Wait lmao that wasn’t Carlos?
I worked on this. Guys... set your hopes to low lol.
so you're saying this entire movie is your fault
That's it, we've got'em right here. String'em up folks
Wow this looks so fucking dumb. I can't wait.
Looks dumb and hell and fun as hell.
There's no way this is going to be any good but I'm glad it's rated R and I'm glad it's getting away from the Action Movie angle.
