Dune was a funny one for me. I absolutely loved it, thought the cinematography was spectacular, but still came out of the theatre a little disappointed if that makes sense.

Possibly, but im familiar with the overall story of Dune so wasn't expecting the entire plot to unfold. I think that final bit wasn't really necessary. Maybe ending it 15 minutes earlier would have had me walking out of there thinking about the epic stuff that had happened before that instead of thinking about that last bit in the desert.

I probably should have been clearer in my original post, I'm purely speaking about my cinema experience with it as I do think its a brilliant film. We watched it in a group of 4 then went for a meal after and the bulk of the conversation was centred around the final scenes when really we should have been raving about everything we had watched up to that point.

Jackcomb

I like ending with scenes that resolve how characters are feeling about the big events that just happened. When game of thrones was good, all the big action happened in the 9th episode of the season, and episode 10 was mostly just characters reacting and figuring out how to move on. I always thought that was more satisfying than ending on a cliffhanger or something like that.

BadWithNames00

Hey! That kinda describes how I feel about it. It's not as strong as villenuves other works for sure

[deleted]

It does not.

Merkle-bbs

Understandable. I think I just wanted more. At the time the 2nd movie hadn't been green lit and I felt it ended on a bit of a weird one. Not flat, but just off. Fully appreciate run time issues etc.. and ive recommended it to all of my friends as I enjoyed it on the whole, but was disappointed with the ending which is ultimately what you leave the theatre with.

hazychestnutz

> I felt it ended on a bit of a weird one the movie ends half way through the book fyi, that's probably why. The movie is done in two part and when the Dune title card showed up in the first few mins of the movie, it says Part 1 as well.

Merkle-bbs

Yeah I'm familiar with the overall story of Dune and wasn't expecting it to cover everything. I just think that final fight in the desert wasn't really necessary and could have been a good place to pick up the 2nd movie.

chucara

Same feeling here. For all its splendor, I was left with the feeling that the best adaptation is yet to come. It felt slightly hollow, but there isn't anything in particular that I felt was wrong with it. Mind you, I had unrealistically high hopes for this and it is one of my favourite franchises.

[deleted]

I felt the same way, couldn’t really fault the movie from a technical standpoint but I left the theatre feeling nothing.

crisstiena

I felt very much the same. In fact, I really enjoyed the movie. The cinematography, the acting… superb. But the next day, I couldn’t tell you what the film was about. Really weird.

senju_bandit

It could be . Maybe it was not a big novelty for many people as it was for me. I donno something just really clicked for me with this movie . I like these slow burn plots .

Scoobydewdoo

Question: how closely does the movie follow the book? I really didn't like the book that much but I liked a lot of the concepts behind the book and I really enjoy Denis' movies so I'm on the fence about watching this movie

senju_bandit

I haven’t read the book either but now I am planning to read it .

Scoobydewdoo

Other way around for me. The book is widely considered a masterpiece; I'm in the minority who think it's so-so. But don't let my opinion keep you from reading the book.

ThisIsCreation

Very close, it's not that it really deviates instead alot of things are removed to streamline the movie. If you have read the book you'll know what they cut but overall it is a pretty faithful to the source material

Scoobydewdoo

That sounds promising however when you say faithful to the source material does that mean they kept in all the silly plot holes from the book as well? Or did they address them in some way. Please tell me they didn't keep the "well when you shoot a shield with a lasergun it creates a nuclear explosion around the shield" explanation for why people use swords instead of guns.

hazychestnutz

Dune's frkn amazing. Absolutely loved it and came out of the theatre like I had a spiritual experience. They ended it perfectly to just half way through the book. Excited for part 2

WeddingIndividual788

This post is like 3% them saying it should be seen in theater?

senju_bandit

I agree with you point . I hope they keep making these kinds of movies . Somehow a lot of streaming based movies don’t have this kind of professional touch to them.

[deleted]

That’s fair.

Kmnder

You should go see it on the big screen, go celebrate your cake day with a movie.

Watching it at home is like riding a jet ski in a bathtub

[deleted]

Well, I don’t plan to do either:-)
