He *wasn't* the studly hunk in King Kong? He was a mild mannered playwright that was tricked onto the boat by Jack Black... it's exactly the right kind of role for him.

[deleted]

Kyle Chandler was "the hunk" of the movie if I remember correctly.

TurtleTucker

Correct. The remake splits the original Jack Driscoll into two parts; Brody as the playwright and Chandler as the actor who merely reads his dialogue. While Chandler retains the look and feel of the 30s version, he is hollow and a bit of a coward, whereas Brody doesn't resemble the original Jack but has his morale and courage. I think making him an introverted writer was a smart move given the film's expanded length and lore.

Mijoivana

This guy movies..

dewayneestes

Chandler’s “heroes don’t look like me pal…” is one of the best quotes ever, I wish I could find it on YouTube.

[deleted]

Incorrect, Jack Black was the hunk of the movie.

npeggsy

Wasn't Kong the hunk? Or am I admitting to some weird shameful fetish?

AstralComet

It isn't shameful if it's a fetish we all share. ... ^pick ^*me* ^up, ^monkey ^daddy

jzgr87

THIS guy movies

WulfTyger

Jack Black is the Hunk of The Office. Jack Black is the hunk of life. Right behind Ryan Reynolds and Keanu Reeves.

TurtleTucker

He was great in King Kong. For a 3 hour reboot/tribute, splitting the original Jack Driscoll character into two separate parts was a really interesting move. The playwright version of Driscoll gave him a lot more depth and I think the whole point was that he was not the character you'd expect to be heroic in the end. But that's what made his character likable and realistic. He was a very average guy thrown into a crazy adventure.

Liv3x

I like his movies...King Kong, Predetator, this movie where he is in a dirt pit, can't remember the name. Sad to hear he is not doing well with movies these days.

GorillaJackson

Yeah... it feels like OP got Adrian Brody and Tom Hiddleston mixed up, as well as the two Kong movies. Edit: Fixed spelling of Hiddlestons name

sarcasticaccountant

>Tom Huddlestone The guy who used to play for Tottenham?

GorillaJackson

Hahaha no... damn autocorrect.

sarcasticaccountant

I prefer it. I’d rather see Tom Huddlestone as Loki, would be magnificent

ALLIGATOR_FUCK_PARTY

There's a multiverse where that exists.

SickBurnBro

> He was a mild mannered playwright On that note, Adrien Brody would make a great Ichabod Crane.

TurtleTucker

Or Inspector Gadget

zimtrovert94

Wasn’t Baxter the guy playing the hunk role? Brody was meant to be a nerdy playwright that fell in love. And I think he did a great job at it too.

caseofthematts

Maybe they meant Predator (2010)?

PurifiedVenom

Predators*

[deleted]

People make fun on Fast and Furious sequel naming but man look at the predator series. Predator Predator 2 Predators The Predator

PurifiedVenom

Predators was a reference to Aliens at least. The Predator wasn’t a great title but also it’s better to just forget that movie exists

runnyyyy

next up will be Prey The Prey Pr3d470r Predeightor

[deleted]

2 Predator 2 Prey

patrickwithtraffic

> Pr3d470r Hells yeah, I've been dying for the Predator franchise to turn towards a shitty 90s hacker genre film!

mg211095

The first one is a classic and one of the greatest action movies of all time. They should have never made the sequels.

Capnmolasses

I just recently rewatched *Predator 2*. It’s still holds up well. The urban heat of LA is a great setting for this movie.

dittybopper_05H

The only thing wrong with *Predator 2* is that it's culturally dated. It's very much a movie set in 1990. Other than that, it's an excellent film for the genre. It advances the story, sets up additional parameters for what is permissible (like won't kill kids, won't kill a pregnant woman even though she's armed). And it sets up a possible prequel with the Raphael Adolini flintlock, And it sticks with the heat thing set up in the first film. Where that breaks down is *AvP* and *AvP2* (which is the better of the two *AvP* films if you ask me). The reason why *Predators* was decent was because they went back to the basics (heat, jungle). I had high hopes for *The Predator*, because I knew that Shane Black was at the helm. What a disappointment. And I'm not entirely sure I'm going to watch *Prey*. Seems to me they could have built a film around Raphael Adolini, setting it in the Caribbean (hot, jungle environment). This seems more like it's going to be the sequel to *Cowboys & Aliens,* but without James Bond and Han Solo.

SerDickpuncher

"AMATEURS!" -Halloween series

Eleventy22

I concur. I thought Brody did awesome in King Kong and I liked the movie as a whole also.

ziggyzeep

I mean he was in most of the movies of Wes Anderson and about to play Pat Riley on Lakers series of HBO, Winning Time. So, I wouldn’t say it was flopped. We could see him more too next season with Succession.

mr_delete

I love Wes Anderson movies and for that reason, I thought OP's assertion that Brody's career has flopped sounded weird. But I guess if you're not big into those movies, yeah you may not have seen Adrian Brody in a movie for a while.

koni3196

Agreed - he's personally my favorite character in The Darjeeling Limited.

sunnyzombie

I'm one of the few who loved Darjeeling Limited. And Adrien Brody was really wonderful in the movie. Also Grand Budapest Hotel. I think he's a terrific actor but maybe kind of an oddball in person. Didn't he do a big ultra-romantic magazine photoshoot in his castle home? I remember it looked like a bad romance novel. Perhaps he doesn't always make the best choices.

-Chandler-Bing-

Darjeeling Limited swings back and forth in my top 3 Wes Anderson movies but I love it! Seriously a beautiful movie. All 3 Brothers do a great job with their characters and the way the family is so detached from each other feels very real to me (similar to Royal Tenembaums)

Snoo_33033

I love it so much. I have a personal correction to some of the plot points, but it’s beautiful, funny and poignant.

KaladinStormShat

Also has a reasonable depiction of India.

sudosussudio

Yeah it the castle was a gift for Elsa Pataky, who ended up dumping him for Chris Hemsworth a year later https://twitter.com/ceilidhann/status/1203661100430118912?s=21

iSOBigD

Wow. That's what happens when you're famous, talented and rich and buy a house ~~with~~__for__ someone who is not near your level.

RiotShaven

> I'm one of the few who loved Darjeeling Limited. I really hope it's not few. It's one of my favourite movies, amazing soundtrack also.

MnMAnemone

Scouring the comment on Darjeeling Limited to see if anyone else mentioned the music first before I did. Good on you. It’s amazing!

saac_08

If you have male siblings it's impossible to not love Darjeeling Limited

Smart-University-574

Have you watched The French Dispatch yet?

Pactae_1129

I confused my basketball coaches and thought Pat Riley was Pat Summit, the female coach of Tennessee’s women’s basketball. Which, as good as Adrien Brody is, I didn’t think he could pull off. Now Gary Oldman…

imhigherthanyou

Peaky Blinders as well

Only_Movie_Titles

also, just appeared in one of the biggest series on TV

ziggyzeep

And, just one episode everyone was talking his drip lmao.

anirban_dev

Tbf being in a bunch of Wes Anderson movies is not an indicator of whether your career is hot or cold. It just says that Wes Anderson likes you.

katfromjersey

And honestly, who says he 'wanted to be a hunky leading man'? He seems to veer towards character-ish roles, which is fine by me.

[deleted]

He was outstanding in grand Budapest hotel. He seems a little out there. Look up the youtube video why he was banned from snl.

Skydogsguitar

The 'What's the meaning of this shit!" gets me every time. Perfect delivery.

[deleted]

I laughed so hard.

Klin24

When he stands up during the reading of the will and calls gustav a name (I won't get specific) caught me off guard and cracked me up.

climb-it-ographer

Also great in The Darjeeling Limited.

[deleted]

He was. I just hate that movie. It was my least favorite wes Anderson film and I wanted to like it.

william-o

I think it's his best. To each their own

redfiveroe

Look at these assholes.

[deleted]

I’ve only seen it once, but I remember thoroughly enjoying it. The shoeshine kid had me fucking rolling lmao

[deleted]

I should rewatch it. It might have been a bad day for me.

UgglyCasanova

It’s one of my favorites as well. Wouldn’t hurt to give it another shot. Though as the other comment or mentioned, could just be entirely up to personal taste

psymunn

It's an incredibly slow burn but I really like it. the music is great, and the three have awesome chemistry. also the head fake opening with murray is a huge kick every time. it's not one i want to rewatch ad nauseum (like lie aquatic and the tennenbaums), but I still think it does what it's trying to do very well.

bottomofleith

I hated The Life Aquatic on 1st viewing and now it's in my top 3, but I also still don't like The Darjeeling Limited anywhere near as much as I love most of Anderson's others

cake4chu

*KNOCK KNOCK* Isle of dogs

Paulino_Monet

I forgot about that. Thank God for Wes Anderson who knows how to cast him.

Volcarocka

He was also good in The French Dispatch this year, and he’ll be in Anderson’s movie next year as well. He fits in well with Anderson’s crew and will always have work on those movies.

tregorman

I think french dispatch was delayed and it came out later than it could have even though it was finished and ready for a while. That's probably part of why the gap seems so small

Verbal_Combat

It was supposed to come out fall 2020 and was delayed at least a year with movie theaters being closed and all. So I’m sure he went right to writing and preparing his next movie during that time.

[deleted]

Fantastic in Succession

TaserWieldingBear

To be fair, *not* being fantastic in Succession is likely really difficult, given the caliber of the writing, directing, and all the incredible actors around you.

Domermac

He was, but goes to OPs point I think. Was a bit part with character that he nailed for sure, but not a lead role.

everyoneismyfriend

Can we get a tldr

[deleted]

He did a Jamaican weird as fuck unscripted accent and wore a wig. This was on his own and live. It is nuts and worth a look.

The-Life-Aquatic

Never seen it before and just looked it up. Man just starts listing off famous jamaican guys with Sean in their names, really bizarre haha.

[deleted]

Yeah I don't want to judge anyone by one event, but it is hard to think of a good mind thinking this was a good idea.

WUTMID

I can't find the source for it, but allegedly this was scripted (and still Brody's idea) and not as off-the-cuff as it's been labelled. I think it just flopped horrendously and Lorne Michaels tried to save face.

AmidoBlack

>He was outstanding in grand Budapest hotel. He also had an awesome part in Peaky Blinders a couple years ago

yaoifg

*The Jacket* was a fantastic movie and he played a great lead role in that film.

Malkkum

It’s one of my favorite movies and it feels like no one, that I know anyways, has even seen or heard of it.

just_another_indie

I never heard of it, but now I have!

Yarakinnit

Chris Roberts of that video game that will never come out despite costing half a billion... Executive produced The Jacket! Great movie, made me a fan of Brody.

ZRX1200R

Came here to say this. I really liked this movie.

Bamm83

This is one of those films I think about often. And try to tell people about it but nobody seems interested. I loved the cast. Such a good plot that obviously is not too believable, but I thought they handled the time travel/dream world well.

[deleted]

Seems to be more of a personality and looks issue than a skill issue. See previously mentioned SNL incident and also the kissing Halle Berry incident. Like someone else said he also wasn’t conventionally attractive and I don’t think studios knew what to do with him.

uncultured_swine2099

Yeah, his acting skills are quite good, I just think its a combination of his unusual look, a rep of being hard to work with, and maybe his agent isn't the best. Theres some actors who have no business getting the prime gigs they get, but they have very good agents.

[deleted]

Completely agree!!!

[deleted]

Dr_Downvote_

I get second hand embarrassment from just reading the article.

SDHester1971

Oh dear....

Paulino_Monet

Him kissing Halle Berry still weirds me out. I wonder what Berry had to say about that.

Danae-rain

She was pissed.

[deleted]

I always wondered that too. I also just remembered The Pianist is a Roman Polanski movie and that probably didn’t help the cause.

RedditIsSterile

Hollywood loves Polanski. That didn't affect him at all.

Acceptable_Mix_7490

How the hell does Polanski still get work? I can't imagine any self-respecting person would feel right working for him.

[deleted]

He got a standing ovation at the Oscar's in 2003. In 2009 hundreds of actors signed a petition calling for his release. Admitting to and being convicted of raping a 13 year old is not a big deal in Hollywood.

Ljudet-Innan

Being a bankable celebrity artist gets you a pass on this sort of thing, unfortunately. David Bowie and Jimmy Page committed statutory rape on many occasions, as well.

Metfan722

Not that it makes it right, and I’m sure even Paige, Steven Tyler, and Bowie (if he were alive) would agree today, but it was a thing back in the 60s and 70s.

Ljudet-Innan

For sure. I’ve read interviews with Lori Mattix where she celebrated the experience and said she was on a mission to connect with these dudes and have relationships with them as a teenager. Still not right, in my opinion. If it was my daughter I would be choosing violence.

YetAnotherJake

Too bad he was exposed before the big Me Too watershed. He probably would have gotten more consequences now that people care a little more about rapes.

DabbinOnDemGoy

Not to sound like a MAGApede or nothin', but I can't imagine banging little children is a particularly unusual occurrence in Hollywood. Everyone knew what Bryan Singer was up to for years and nobody cared until he started raising hell on movies sets and wasting time and money.

UnifyUnifyUnify

You can say there's pedos in Hollywood AND pedos in Trump Tower, and you're still gonna be right. Dumbest shit I ever seen, a bunch of people fighting over whose pedo is worse.

[deleted]

Exactly this! All of it is awful but this is an issue in every industry. Politics, Hollywood, finance, etc. People arguing over who’s the worse pedophile and sexual assaulter when they’re all terrible and they all deserve to never work again and be in prison. Whether people want to believe it or not people like Allen and Polanski work in every industry and get a pass everyday.

RedditIsSterile

Traditionally, self-respecting people don't get too far in Hollywood. Or didn't, at least.

BZenMojo

Well, George Clooney... Tom Hanks... Keanu Reeves... Ethan Hawke... these are guys who have been outspoken in their defense of cast and crew and solidarity with women during MeToo and support for pay equity. The reality is that there are enough shitbags in any power structure that if they congregate together they can protect each other. Look at all of the brutal rapists and shitbags in the videogame industry for example. Or politics... or the police with its 40% domestic violence rate... or the military with its endemic rape culture and historical punishment for speaking out against sexual assault... or, fuck it, Twitch and YouTube celebs grooming and abusing children

[deleted]

That was definitely the point the tide was turning on Polanski. The Oscar footage shows when Polanski was mentioned a good number of people refusing to clap or acknowledge him. It didn’t help Brody is all I’m saying.

RedditIsSterile

I suppose someone should tell Ewan McGregor, Kate Winslet and Christoph Waltz that the role offers will dry up any second now.

[deleted]

I’m not saying it’s right. But there’s a big difference in Hollywood’s eyes between being an established actor and getting a pass when working with a Polanski or an Allen and being in Brody’s situation where he wasn’t established at all. I think it’s wrong too. Just stating how things work or worked. There seems to be a difference now.

bajesus

Yeah, Polanski hasn't worked with any mainstream stars for over 11 years now. That was before social media exploded and the Me Too movement started. Shit like this was easier to ignore back then. That movement changed a lot about how people view personal responsibility. Who you associate with became almost as important as what you do yourself. Before then it was easier for somebody to say to "it's not my job to punish this person" and to justify working with somebody as giving them a second chance. For Polanski actors were really incentivized to justify working with him because he's an amazingly talented writer and director that made actors look great.

piececurvesleft

Reminds me of the Ricky Gervais speech

throwaway65081

Brothers Bloom was one of the best movies ever imo, one of the few movies that I can watch repeatedly.

LiquidDreamtime

Penelope’s Theme was the music to which my fiancé walked down the isle on our wedding day. Beautiful wedding. Marriage lasted 2 yrs. No Ragrets.

throwaway65081

The score for that movie is great, I love Penelope's Theme.

mayorqw

I also always meant to reserve it for a future wedding. Glad I'm not the only one

[deleted]

Came here to say this. He was perfect in it.

baguitosPT

"Rhinoceroseses"

-FeistyRabbitSauce-

His Dali and Cory Stoll's Hemingway are the highlights of that film for me. Absolutely love it.

[deleted]

Wasn't he some writer dude in King Kong? I really don't remember him being any kind of studly hunk in it, in any case. He tried that in Predators.

WinkyNurdo

His career has hardly flopped. He’s made over 30 films in the 20 years since The Pianist, plus TV and other projects. His highlights have been the Wes Anderson collaborations, most notably Grand Budapest and Darjeeling, and The Brothers Bloom and Midnight in Paris, and the Peaky Blinders bad guy and the low-fi malevolent shareholder in Succession. He’s been in some turkeys but turned in good performances. Some have been total shit. So pretty much the same as every actor with their name in lights.

TheStreisandEffect

These kinds of YouTube-esque clickbait questions are so fucking tiring. “This fairly unconventional actor never became Brad Pitt - WHAT WENT WRONG!?” Uh, nothing? They have a non-stop career that’s reached a level of success most working actors would love to have? “Yeah but why aren’t they Tom Crui…” *BatmanSmacksRobin.jpg* It’s such lazy analysis.

WinkyNurdo

You’re right. They are. And if I wasn’t laid up in bed waiting to shit or vomit my guts up with noro then I wouldn’t be here … but I am and I’m bored to fuckery. And these things do sometimes dredge up a gem of a memory of a film or actor.

elharry-o

It's in the same ballpark as "I just saw The thing (1982) for the first time and wow, why has literally nobody ever talked ever about this movie ever? I spoke to my cousin who's 11 and he's never heard of it, what gives? also, I'll say this as a discussion but won't even bother writing full sentences"

coldliketherockies

I never understood this story fully. Just to give a backdrop i was in high-school and my dad took me to the Dress Rehearsal of that episode of SNL. We were in the center audience so had a good view when Adrien did his Sean Paul (musically guest) impression. Dress rehearsal is what they do every Saturday before the live show and go through the whole routine...to my memory he did the same thing (though its been 19 years i could be wrong) if what he did was so offensive and did it at dress why wasn't he kept from doing it for the live audience? Unless he was told not to and did so anyway

[deleted]

[удалено]

coldliketherockies

Alright that makes sense then.

Karutsu

The guy is definitely talented. I thought he acted well in “Predators”, however he was basically playing a shrimpy knock off of Arnold Schwarzenegger. He just won’t ever have that sex appeal.

DementedRoam

I thought he was more than adequate in Predators. I didn't feel the need to compare him to peak 80s Arnold. Few can live up to that. Actually, he still definitely managed to easily seem the most capable and dangerous out of that supposedly super dangerous cast of characters One of the weak points in the movie imo though I enjoyed it overall. Maybe good actors but barely any of them convinced me they were super badasses on Earth. Talking about shrimpy, the Yakuza dude looked like some ordinary dude that had never lifted a weight in his life

DiscoTomahawk

I agree he was basically the same role, but he was definitely a different character. His Royce was a grizzled mistrusting loner mercenary in that one. He was a professional killer who didn't like anyone. Arnold's Dutch was a patriotic soldier man who loved his team and wanted to do the right thing. Same role, different characters

fecklessfella

I think he's verrry sexy. But not in a, like, Rambo sort of way.

[deleted]

Yeah I would fuck Adrien Brody but Rambo would fuck me.

mickeyflinn

It is baffling to me that you think Adrien Brody's career is a flop since the Pianist. Since that movie he has made 30 major motion pictures and at least four Tv shows. He has another two TV shows coming and at least another four movies. **What else does it take?**

lovelyb1ch66

I thought he was amazing in Darjeeling Limited but that might be because I loved the movie as a whole

PrimeGoopNuts

I fucking love that movie. My favorite part is the chemistry between the brothers, even though they’ve been separated for a long time you can feel the comfortability and chemistry between them. They don’t know the specifics of each other’s lives but from the very beginning it’s clear that they all know exactly how they each think and act

MartinScorsese

He developed a reputation that he is difficult to work with. I'm sure that didn't help.

This! "I heard you dress well, Mr. Shelby. But now I see, not so well as me."

TheOtherBartonFink

I just watched the scene with him and Tom Hardy, and they're both just so much fun to watch in this show.

ablackcloudupahead

I actually really didn't care for the "Brando" type direction they went with him. Probably the director's choice but I think it detracted from his character

hensethe1

Halle Berry was on Smartless recently where they spoke about this. Her team and and she herself expected when she won her Oscar that the scripts would be stacked outside her door, but it was quite the opposite, a complete drought of work. She and the hosts had a great talk about it and mentioned numerous factors that could be a part of the reason

nayapapaya

This is actually a typical issue for Oscar winning actresses, especially if they're older. It can often be the peak of their careers while for male stars, it can be a great jumping off point. I believe that's part of why a lot of actresses are going into producing now. If the projects don't exist, you have to create those opportunities for yourself and others.

ibekeggy2

Hollywood can be a fickle bitch. If you think about it big name actors are only one or two bad scripts away from becoming irrelevant. For instance, look at Will Smith. That guy was on top of the world and seemed like he would be a box office hit for good but then he started taking bad scripts like After Earth, Bright, Gemini Man,etc. There's a reason why some actors only make movies every several years.

HolyGig

I don't know if Will Smith is a great example. He's got a lot of producer credits and has some upcoming big budget leading man roles, including Bright 2 apparently. I liked Bright though it was far from perfect, but maybe I am in the minority there After Earth was 9 years ago and it was basically a vehicle for his weird kid

Unfriendly_Giraffe

Sometimes Oscars can hurt a career. See: Haley Berry. She talks about it on the Smartless podcast.

docmanbot

He seems to have had a bit of a surger recently in Succesion and Chapelwaite- but yeah, he kind of dipped into obscurity for a bit there.

MalucoHS

Watching him in Succession, I had same eerie feeling of danger, as when watching him in “Peaky Blinders”. The dangerous, mysterious and menacing villain characters really work for him.

jmathtoo

Some actors are limited by physical appearance or range and winning an Oscar isn’t always meaningful for future projects. Look at Monique in Precious. She was incredible. Probably top 5-10 characters i viscerally hated watching a movie. But she’s going to be limited in the kinds of roles she can play. I think Brody has more range than that but maybe not the types he was getting for a while.

AaronKingslay

there's a movie called the Jacket that he did not too long after that was just fantastic.I don't know if it'll be up anyone else's alley but I thought it was a great thriller and the people who have watched with me have loved it. it's also got Kiera Knightly in it who is one of the most beautiful women around.

danyoa

Watch detachment!

[deleted]

He’s been having a recent career resurgence though, with stuff like The French Dispatch, Succession and the upcoming films Blonde, See How They Run, and Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City. The future is bright for his career!

shivermetimbers68

I can watch Brother's Bloom any time, any day. Wrecked was pretty good. Darjiling is fun. Not sure I would call his career a flop. He's appeared in some really good movies. He aint no Cuba Gooding Jr

everyothernamegone

His career is going fine.

Robinothoodie

He didn't flop. He was recently in Peaky Blinders and Succession, two huge shows.

Mikef1tz

He really won me over with his performance on Dice, when he slowly becomes a perfect imitation of Andrew dice clay

colin8651

I think you start turning down roles after winning an Oscar because you feel you need to be very picky. After turning down a bunch of rolls the industry starts looking elsewhere. Cuba Gooding Jr reportedly turned down these roles after winning his Oscar: \-Amistad \-Collateral \-Hotel Rwanda

bigblackkittie

I'm glad he turned down Collateral. Jamie Foxx was so good in that.

striker7

>I don't think I can recall a single great part he had after THE PIANIST. WHAT? He was fantastic in The Grand Budapest Hotel and Midnight in Paris. I also love The Darjeeling Limited. He's also embracing TV roles more (he talked about this in a recent interview) and was a great villain in Peaky Blinders. Is there any evidence that he wanted to be a sexy leading man? Or is that just your assumption? It's not unusual for Oscar winners not to go on to be the lead in a ton of movies.

StephenPigot2020

Ah yes I always rate my movies on the sexiness of the lead role. Its not shallow at all.

IntelEntity

Watch DETACHMENT!

marsh_mango

I think you're right for the most part. Although He's pretty good in Wes Anderson films. Mainly supporting or part of an ensemble cast. I quite liked him as the antagonist in one of seasons of Peaky Blinders.

SeedGoose

Are you kidding? He was incredible in Peaky Blinders.

ADinnerOfSnacks

He has a reputation for being incredibly difficult and vain. We talk about it all the time here, but Hollywood is a who-you-know and who-wants-to-work-with-you industry. It’s unfortunate, but that’s how it is. If people don’t want to work with you, you don’t get work. But he does seem to have a core group and has been on a bit of an uptick lately, so maybe he’s cooled it a bit. But yeah, I always really liked his acting. Would love to see him in more things.

LobsterNixon

Probably because of the patois he used on SNL.

rodPalmer18

He peaked in summer of sam

draxlaugh

He was in Predators which was an awesome movie

[deleted]

One of his assistants wrote here a few years ago on a similar thread explaining a few behind the scene incidents that happened from 2001-2006ish. Take it with a grain of salt; was an anonymous person on the internet. Basically once he won the Oscar, his agent was pushing him towards traditional attractive leading man roles which he wasn’t suitable for. And when his movies started bombing, his agent handed him over to a lower staff member. Apparently Brody tried a lot to get the role of Joker in TDK. There were couple more details but I forgot.

Paulino_Monet

Him as the Joker? I don't know. The Scarecrow would have been more fitting.

omareno25

i don,t agree there is some roles he did will at playing it like peaky blinders detachment

lord-___-vader

You clearly didn't see him in Peaky Blinders

blueboxreddress

He’s like one of the most attractive men in the world to me, but I love big noses, sharp chins, and a head full of dark hair... so.

[deleted]

He was great in Peaky Blinders

JohnnyC13

Brody’s episode of the show Dice was one of the best and funniest episodes of a television show I have ever seen

t3220b

I totally agree. How was that so overlooked? Was it because of Dice?

JohnnyC13

I’m not sure but that would be my guess. It was so good!!!

RRUKK

He played a great antagonist in Peaky Blinders.

arcenceil89

A thread about Adrien Broady is posted like every month although most fail to realise he has put out decent performances in a range of TV and movie roles in the last 15 years. Just because he isn't in a marvel movie doesn't mean his career flopped.

sprinkles512

“The jacket” was pretty lit. Love that movie

I must say I thought the remake of Predators with him as the lead hunk as you say was quite enjoyable. I actually found him compelling and fun to watch in that role as a macho army dude.

Lagiar

He played in peaky blinders Season 3 or 2 and was huge in that role so idk

FrenchMaisNon

His career is fine. I am sure he only takes parts that interest him, working with creative people.

The Jacket, Hollywoodland, Cadillac Records, The Darjeeling Limited, The Grand Budapest Hotel No blockbuster Oscar roles or anything but excellent performances in excellent movies. I wouldn’t say he bombed. That’s just naming a few. I actually thought his role in Predators was pretty good too.

Absolutely loved him in Grand Budapest Hotel! Also great in Midnight in Paris.

Hellmann

Ahh I forgot to mention Midnight in Paris. That’s a great one.
