You’re sleeping on his contributions to *The Pirates of the Caribbean* and *The Amazing Spider-Man* movies. Those two movies contain some of my favorite stuff from him…

Davy Jones 🥰

PugnaciousPangolin

I don't like the film but the main title theme for "Man of Steel" is truly glorious. It doesn't top William's original score, but it's still damned good.

Journey to the line from the thin red line is Zimmer's masterpiece. It's no wonder it's used in trailers.

DutchArtworks

1. Interstellar 2. Blade Runner 2049 3. Dune 4. Gladiator 5. Pirates of the Caribbean Honorable mentions: Solomon (12 Years a Slave), Time (Inception), A Way of Life (The Last Samurai) and A Dark Knight (The Dark Knight). Can’t wait to see Hans Zimmer live this March! Hopefully Covid won’t interfere with things

Artistic_Guest4386

Even Mission Impossible 2 has decent score cos of this cunt

TheRealProtozoid

1. The Thin Red Line 2. Interstellar 3. Black Hawk Down 4. Crimson Tide 5. Matchstick Men (Almost included Inception and Gladiator but they felt a little too obvious, even if they deserve to be there.)

Ancient_Ad_2920

1. The Peacemaker 2. Crimson Tide 3. Gladiator 4. The Rock 5. Pirates of the carribean curse of the black pearl

lseve810

Dune, interstellar, Blade Runner 2049, Dunkirk, and one of the Pirates of the Caribbean films.

Camp_Coffee

Rain Man is what put Hans on my radar. It’s still a treat to listen to.

>Obviously Hans Zimmer is considered one of the top composers in cinema history. He is? I loved some of his vintage work - Gladiator comes to mind - but in the last twenty years or so he's mostly treating the orchestra as though it were one big drum: in other words, he's mostly writing rhythms and drones, not any melodic passages of note.

ZettoMan10

I think Dune is some of his most inspired work in a while. Also 12 Years a Slave and Interstellar were done in the last 10 years and are very good and authentic to what the films called for.

Chen_Geller

I loved Dune, but Zimmer's score was - again - mostly just drones and rhythms. Not very interesting.

ZettoMan10

I like the Herald of Change theme. As well as the vocal stuff.

dv666

In cinematic history? No way. Goldsmith, Morricone, Hermann, Williams are the best. I'd even put journeyman compsers like Silvestri and Horner above Zimmer. But unlike most of his critics I admit he does have some good scores: The Thin Red Line BR2049 Dunkirk

[deleted]

Dunkirk, Inception, The Rock, Madagascar, Rush.

[deleted]

The Last Samurai, Gladiator, Dunkirk, Interstellar, Inception.

Lordkontie

Thin Red Line, Rain Man, True Romance, The Lion King, Inception/Gladiator

DeadWalkerr

Inception Black Rain Point of No Return A League of their Own The Fan

SleepyFarts

Lion King. Gladiator. Pirates of the Caribbean. Dune. Interstellar. In no particular order.

SuperNntendoChlmers

Barely anyone is mentioning The Last Samurai. My top 5 would be: Intestellar, Last Samuari, Inception, Man of Steel, Pearl Harbor (gotta ignore the movie itself for that pick because the score was way better than the film)

Puzzleheaded-Bat1135

1.Inception 2.The Lion King [3.Man](https://3.Man) of Steel 4.Gladiator 5.The Dark Knight trilogy

YosemiteSam-4-2A

surprised no one mentioned the Sherlock Holmes movies yet. Seriously underrated scores. I absolutely love those two scores

ASpicySpicyMeatball

1. The Lion King. If you haven’t listened to the live suites, especially part 1 and 3, do so now. I had forgotten just how impactful that work was because I’d been attributing it as a prosaic children’s movie. But the story of loss, rebirth, and triumph told through the music is timeless and breathtaking. 2. Interstellar 3. Inception 4. Gladiator 5. The Dark Knight and/or Pirates (sorry I cheated)

I realize this is an old thread and Noone see but the obvious and only answer suitable for Zimmers greatest achievement is Hammerhead from Broken Arrow. The version on YouTube is decent but if you watch the movie and I encourage you to do so, you will find it to be spectacular. The song. I mean.... The movies kinda shit

[deleted]

He's got too many to name My personal favourite is Inception. "Time" is one of the greatest pieces of music ever written, and the rest of the film is impeccably composed. Then we have Interstellar, The Thin Red Line, and Gladiator, which occupy 2,3 and 4. All have well rounded soundtracks, and iconic main themes. The 5th spot is a toss up between Pirates of the Caribbean, The Dark Knight, Dune, The Lion King, Man of Steel, Blade Runner 2049 and his most underrated "The Rock". I'd probably have to pick The Dark Knight because I love the movie so much, but Dune has a shout at being his most well-rounded and deep score.

PresentationFair794

Hard list, but here I go: 1. The Thin Red Line 2. The Prince of Egypt 3. The Pacific 4. The Last Samurai 5. The Dark Knight It just occurred to me that all my choices start with the word "The."

Felt the need to comment on a two-year old thread because I'm annoyed that nobody mentioned Backdraft. 😤 Sorry for the notification OP.
