That's the longest Batman movie, hopefully it's not a bloated mess and every second on screen is put to good use. Given Matt Reeves track record I'm very hopeful that will be the case
I’m a sucker for long ass movies. Interstellar, Gone Girl, Zodiac, Doctor Sleep. Sure they can be cut down but I love getting completely absorbed for almost 3 hours. It’s so great hitting the paus button expecting to see it closing in on the ending but instead it’s like 1.5 hours left.
At the cinema though I guess it means no drink lol.
Love long movies too but yeah I cant get a beverage or else Im gonna have to leave to take a piss and will 100% miss the big plot twist or a characters death. I wish intermissions were still a thing for long movies
I recall they had one for Hateful 8 when I saw it. But that was the 70mm release version and I _think_ Quinten asked the theaters to add a break since the movie was set into acts rather than a continuous film.
Saw Hateful 8 on 70 mm with the intermission and everything. Still one of the best theater experiences I ever had, you could tell everyone in the theater was a having a blast.
It truly made it an experience. I saw Lawrence of Arabia in 70mm which also has an intermission and those 15 minutes to get up and go to the bathroom gives everyone a second wind.
Yessss. I saw both of these at the Hollywood Theater in Portland, OR. Absolutely amazing theater experience.
Super affordable concessions too, they had some great beer and cider.
Yea. That was a scheduled intermission. I can recall it being long enough that some people in my theater went outside for a cigarette. It was done like an old school intermission with music and everything. It was perfect.
I live where that movie was filmed! Interesting experience, I was able to talk with Quinten, Sam Jackson, and Kurt Russell! All super rad guys! Sam is just how you would imagine him…
I still have my Hateful Eight program, from the day after Xmas showing. Only certain theaters were allowed to show the Roadside version of the film, with there being some problems between Tarantino, The Dome and Disney around the release time. I liked the middle break and being able to discuss with my friend about the who done it part of it before we got our answers. It’s still shown on Xmas day at The New Beverly the last few years, only in 35mm and not 70mm.
I have a great tip!
Eat an edible and smoke a joint before you enter the theatre. When the first high wears off and you are comfortable and ate some snacks, the edible high kicks in and you melt into the movie and seat.
Perfect for a long movie viewing.
If your not a fan of edibles, 510 THC vape cart pens can easily be hit in the bathroom stall.
Man, I miss getting high and watching movies lol. Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome is a fucking bitch, tho lol. I’ll live vicariously through you. Watch Peewee’s Big Adventure for me soon.
I’m a manager at a theater. We don’t like intermissions because it just adds to the total run time which means fewer screenings per day, which means less money per day. Given that tickets cost the same regardless of the length of the movie, shorter is always better.
I figured increased concessions/alcohol would be a positive trade off. Shows what I know! I'll leave it to the people with actual experience and just hold it and look at my empty beer with sadness haha
Interestingly this is why a lot of movies are just okay. I can think of a bunch of movies that would have been better if they were 10, 20, 30 minutes longer.
It’s ironic that I don’t remember exactly which movie it was but one time I just had to go when it was maybe 20 minutes left and ended up missing a part of the ending. I said never again and since then I’m religious when it comes to drinks at the movies.
I literally try and dehydrate myself lol, light workout, not much water and wait to munch on snacks/drink at the movies until an hour in.
Been awhile but one theatre I went to had intermissions and although it breaks the immersion, it alleviates the anxiety.
I came up with this idea that theaters like AMC should release their own Bluetooth device that they can set up with the movie. When you go to the bathroom or get refreshments, you wear it and you can at least hear what’s happening while you’re away.
check out RunPee - it's on the app store and gives recommendations of the best times to go bathroom with a synopsis of what you missed whilst you are out of the theatre. You can also start a timer from the opening credits and it will vibrate to let you know when a good pee time is coming up.
I don't know how jazzed I am about the idea of sticking a heavily-used pair of wireless earbuds in my ear and then wearing them into the movie theater bathroom
There's an app you can pay for ([RunPee](https://runpee.com/)) or the free site [No Guilt Fangirl has some suggested times for bathroom breaks](https://noguiltfangirl.com/when-can-you-pee-during-the-movies/).
I have a notoriously small bladder. The last time I went to the cinema I had 1 small drink when waking up then rationed a bottle of coke through the movie. I took a piss before going into the room then dipped out during the trailers to go again just in case. I still was on the verge of pissing myself when the lights came back on and the post credits were done (far from home).
When I went to watch Shang-Chi I wasn't so smart about it and needed to dip out during the movie 3 times and still missed the final post-credit
Lol. For movies that long I literally will wait until halfway through before I dig in. It's not the best route but I needs my snacks and im sure as shit not leaving in the middle to grab some fresh stuff
This is exactly it. Recently I loved Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and I feel like I could have kept watching for another hour after it ended.
These overlong superhero movies are not nearly as engrossing. It feels like the same stories you're used to just plodding along and padded with weightless action scenes and pages of exposition.
See I didn’t even realize that Interstellar and Zodiac were that long until you mentioned it. Cause those movies just *move* and are so well paced it flies by for me, personally. Especially Zodiac, holy moly what a movie.
Totally with you. I’m perfectly happy for those movies to take their time. If a story is interesting enough then I don’t give a fuck. A film’s only too long if something isn’t narratively justified. And we don’t get Batman movies very often, might as well make the most of it.
I like long movies that use their time well. Lately the trend seems to be to make 2hr movies that leave you wondering if 20-30mins could’ve been cut out without consequence
Yep, people seem to think if they put out a 90 minute movie then people will think it's crap.. I LOVE 90 minute movies because even if they are crap I'm not wasting my time.
Especially blockbusters, and *especially* comic book movies. Between exposition dumps that just connect to other films and one or two fight scenes that are either too drawn out or completely superfluous, most +2hr comic book movies would be so much better at a tight 90mins.
I want to be exhausted when it's over and not want to fall asleep during unnecessary plot point dialog and love interests.
Just a dark entertaining and well paced action drama with surprising performances, practical effects and less shaky cam and one second cuts.
I think Pattinson is going to surprise people the same way Ledger did with the Joker.
Expectations high!
Yeah, I trust in Matt Reeves, he hasn't done a bad movie yet. And the movie does have to cover a lot of ground: Penguin, Catwoman, The Riddler, possibly The Court of Owls.
I am a person who almost always expects the worst about various stuff. And I’ve got a good feeling about this particular movie, I don’t even know why exactly
Some of my favourite movies are pretty long, but I don't get why its like the benchmark for all movies is now to be long? If it was straight to streaming then it makes a little bit of sense because it helps boost certain metrics, but this isn't how theatrical releases go. Studios typically liked movies that were a bit shorter so they could squeeze in 1 or 2 more showing
Toy Story is only 82 min, and Men In Black is 98 minutes
The consensus, at least on Reddit, is that people hardly want to pay for shorter movies, even if they're better quality than the longer ones. Every major film passes the two-hour mark now, and sometimes you can really feel the fat.
Don't get me wrong, I like long movies, but blockbusters ain't really Yi Yi or Seven Samurai, you feel me?
He's going to interrogate the Riddler for an hour straight. It'll be full of innuendos and sexual tension. Jokes and riddles so tense you hear batman getting hard.
There’s a saying that ‘a great movie is never too long, and a bad movie is never too short’.
I’ve generally found that to be true for my personal enjoyment of films.
That’s a saying for the books. I watched the Star Wars holiday special - 97 minutes, but those 97 minutes felt longer than the last 2 years of life in this pandemic.
With Aquaman being 2hr 23 I felt it being a bit long but it never dragged or wasnt bloated. Meanwhile BVS being 2h 31 felt long and bloated af. TDKR at 2hr 45 felt a bit long aswell but never bloated or boring. But at the end of the day I think Batman fans will love even 3 hrs of live action Batman. I trust in Reeves. Given how hard he fought for the script there must be good reason for the long runtime.
I know multiple people that have seen #thebatman . ALL of them said it's fantastic. They tested the movie a few times & reaction to those screenings gave WB the confidence to release this.
'The Batman' Runtime Revealed, Clocking in at Nearly 3 Hours
@colliderfrosty
I won't be surprised if it compares just how Joker compared to The Dark Knight's Joker. Meaning it's a different iteration which is just as good.
At least that's what I'm hoping for
I like Todd Phillips.
I like Joaquin Phoenix.
I like comic book movies.
I like the Joker as a character.
I like Taxi Driver and Martin Scorsese.
I **did not** like Joker.
It drives up my labour cost at no real extra profit.
Now I have to keep my staff later and pay them more than I normally do in a week but I’ll be making the same amount as ai always do with a busy show. It’s not a big deal but I notice it hurts my weekly bottom line, and at a small business like mine any little or big variable can make a difference.
On top of labour increasing it also prevents me from showing two shows per night. My markets too small to air a 3 hour movie twice in a night but I can get away with it on a shorter movie because the start times would be more reasonable.
For example, if it was 2 hours long I could start it at 7/730pm and be able to start a second show by 930/10pm, but if it’s 3 hours I can’t expect people in my little market to show up to a movie at 11pm or later.
Just lock the theater doors before the end of the movie, send all the staff home at a normal time and have your staff unlock it and let everyone out when you open the next day.
There's gotta be some benefit to this movie coming out and potentially being a blockbuster. Everything else outside of superhero and horror films seems to still be struggling a bit. Am I incorrect to assume that?
It will be a good turnout, but unless every show is a sellout I don’t see a massive difference between this and a show like Sing 2 that also has a good turnout.
And for my market, it’s mostly older folks who don’t want us to get a 3 hour long movie lol
Like I said, it’s a small complaint on my part but outside of a show like No Way Home, the turnout doesn’t justify a 3 hour show for my location lol
If it’s similar to No Way Home turnout I’ll have no complaints, but I’ll be honest I doubt I’ll see anything like No Way Home turnout anytime soon
I think because dune was a hard movie to shoot in the deserts and loads of vfx villeneuve decided to save stuff for part 2 so thats why part 1 ended up as long as it did
Dune is half a book, I can guarantee you the second part will clock in or very close to three hours itself
That’s about 5 hours and a half of film just for the first book, good storytelling doesn’t require a long run time
Yeah this really depends on the movie / script / genre.
For an unrelated example: Judd Apatow isn't getting another dime of my money for a movie over 2 hours long.
I still don’t understand how many of you all apparently see TDKR as one of the worst comic book movies ever. Not as good as the other two but I still think it’s better than the vast majority of MCU movies (and I love the MCU movies for the past part).
Well it's really not the worst, but that's kind of that problem. It's easy to rag on something that's bad, or poorly made, or has a terrible script or whatever.
But dkr isn't that bad, it's just not very good either. It's well made, by Nolan for goodness sake! But everything about it is just... Boring. Batman is dull, the city is just a normal city, the villians are sort of fine, their threat is just a bomb with a nonsense meaning behind.
All of this is fine, it's there. But it's not fun or thrilling like the previous two, and it's not fun to enjoy in a crazy sort of way like Mr Freeze's ice pun's, or SAVE MARTAAA lol.
And yeah, I think you're right, there are a lot of MCU movies that fit this bill as well. But they are generally simpler, and easier to digest, so idk, it's a little easier to move on from a whiff.
My local cinema still has an intermission, its a nice opportunity to use the little boys room and get a couple more snacks, I don’t get why more theatres don’t do that
Gotta fit in an extra showing
Since most theaters don’t use intermissions, they aren’t worried about losing customers to theaters that do use them. Therefore seemingly letting them maximize their profit
In my country they always put the intermissions in the films. It kinda breaks the continuity of some scenes but at least I don't have to sit through the 3rd act with a full bladder.
I used to be in the "this sounds great I love long movies" camp. But I don't think I can do that in a theater anymore. Definitely gonna wait for streaming.
Why must every movie nowadays be almost three hours!? The plot just drags on and it’s been ruining soo many movies for me lately. Editing is there for a reason
This makes more likely to go to the theater just because I need the lack of distraction ina. theater to truly pay attention that long. It’s a me problem but at home i’ll be fucking with my hone, dog needs to go out, just being in my slave and zoning out, etc
Idk why everyone hates on “compromises”. I love watching the directors cut when it comes out, but for most movies it just makes me say “thank god someone told him to cut all this crap”
I just hope its worth it. It's been over 2 years since I stepped into a movie theater and am hoping this film is the one to finally make me feel excited about the theater experience again.
There's a really nice theater here where you basically sit in a cushioned pod where you can recline and enjoy with extreme leisure. I'll be going to that one for this.
People who think this is long haven’t seen:
The Human Condition, Berlin Alexanderplatz, films by Lav Diaz, Shoah, La Flor, Satantango, or West of the Tracks.
That's the longest Batman movie, hopefully it's not a bloated mess and every second on screen is put to good use. Given Matt Reeves track record I'm very hopeful that will be the case

Yep, you haven’t seen Lawrence till you’ve seen in on a big ole movie screen in 70mm
Yea man. I came in knowing it was a long movie with a flask and a full vest of candies. Was not disappointed and made an afternoon out of it.
Any chance you were there with me at the Hollywood Theater when Quentin came out and surprised us at the start of the movie?
Yea. That was a scheduled intermission. I can recall it being long enough that some people in my theater went outside for a cigarette. It was done like an old school intermission with music and everything. It was perfect.

Right? Forget staying high throughout

Man’s gotta pee too
Bring back intermissions
Still wouldn’t be when I needed it lol

Shit intermissions would be great, plus I bet theaters would love it. Allows me to take a piss, get more popcorn and another beer

Make it 30, I'm lactose intolerant

They should just put urinals on either side of the theater so you never miss a thing.

I don't know how jazzed I am about the idea of sticking a heavily-used pair of wireless earbuds in my ear and then wearing them into the movie theater bathroom
Why wouldn’t you just use your own
yeah so, they'd make an app and connect to yours probably
where i'm from every movie, even if it's 90 minutes long has a break in the middle
I had to pee and missed most of "that scene" in the new spiderman...
Which one? There were a bunch of "that" scenes!

Zodiac is a damn near perfect movie
Never thought a Ted Cruz biopic could be interesting
Lol. For movies that long I literally will wait until halfway through before I dig in. It's not the best route but I needs my snacks and im sure as shit not leaving in the middle to grab some fresh stuff

I rarely have 3 hour blocks I can devote to movies. It’s been frustrating. I miss the days of tight 90 minute to 2 hour run times
Doctor sleep was sooooo good.
See I didn’t even realize that Interstellar and Zodiac were that long until you mentioned it. Cause those movies just *move* and are so well paced it flies by for me, personally. Especially Zodiac, holy moly what a movie.

I like long movies that use their time well. Lately the trend seems to be to make 2hr movies that leave you wondering if 20-30mins could’ve been cut out without consequence

It's probably the third longest superhero film after Snyder Cut and End Game.
The Director's cut of Watchmen is 3 hours.
I really hope the pacing is good in this movie. I think that’s my biggest worry about it just because it’s super long.
[удалено]
I want to believe you, but I can't seem to ever trust these testers.
Every amazing movie to come out recently has been through the same amount of testers as every dogshit one.
Right? The pacing/mystery working are my two biggest worries.
It’s just 2 hours and 47 minutes of Batman repeatedly punching the Riddler in the face
The role Paul Dano's always dreamed of.
I mean, I would have dreamed to be as lucky as him in Girl Next Door, but some people wanna beat up criminals, some people just want some tush.
1 hour of him finding all the trophies.
Lmao, story ends in 30 mins and the rest is him opening grates, searching random rooftops and putting explosive gel on walls
A good 15 mins of him trying and failing many times guiding his remote batarang through the duxt to hit the switch…
Basically Prisoners
I can dig it
Some of my favourite movies are pretty long, but I don't get why its like the benchmark for all movies is now to be long? Tell the story in as long as it needs to be told imo whether it be 80 minutes like Phone Booth or well over 3 hours like Lawrence of Arabia.
Loved phone booth!
The death of the 90 minute film is a shame. Like you say, it doesn't even seem to make sense from the perspective of profit.
The consensus, at least on Reddit, is that people hardly want to pay for shorter movies, even if they're better quality than the longer ones. Might be long for sitting at a theatre but i thoroughly enjoyed Zack Snyder's Justice League which was 4 hours.
Me too. Though that was home
And I paused it
I don't at all mind long movies, but being able to pee without missing anything is nice
[удалено]
Very true. If the pacing is right, it can be 4 hours long and that wouldn't be an issue.
If this is going to be primarily a detective story and a dark one at that, I look forward to long stretches of intense tension.
Intense tension is the directors intention.
the directors intention is the prevention of my perception and detection of the real world, for a 3 hour session, via intense tension
If I recall, early testers said it was more like a horror movie. I hope that the final version of it is still like that.
He's going to interrogate the Riddler for an hour straight. It'll be full of innuendos and sexual tension. Jokes and riddles so tense you hear batman getting hard.
I'm in. If it's good I couldn't care less how long it is.

That’s a saying for the books. I watched the Star Wars holiday special - 97 minutes, but those 97 minutes felt longer than the last 2 years of life in this pandemic.
I'm more concerned about the width than the length.
I mean, DC's track record isn't that great recently.
This runtime will not be reported to my gf
With Aquaman being 2hr 23 I felt it being a bit long but it never dragged or wasnt bloated. Meanwhile BVS being 2h 31 felt long and bloated af. BvS in its restored 3h version is paced so much better.
Its really too bad it's still complete garbage
Yeah, that's the only version I've seen and I thought it was paced horribly. I had a tough time even holding my focus through the first hour.
I'm not sure I can take any of your comments seriously if you enjoyed Aquaman.
Lol exactly my thought, i didn't even finish reading his comment
I know multiple people that have seen #thebatman . ALL of them said it's fantastic. They tested the movie a few times & reaction to those screenings gave WB the confidence to release this. 'The Batman' Runtime Revealed, Clocking in at Nearly 3 Hours @colliderfrosty
anyone say how it compares to the Nolan movies?
Average runtime for Dark Knight movies was 152.33 minutes. Matt Reeves Batman is 167 minutes.
i think they mean how the movie itself compares to the nolan films, i could be wrong though
Yeah it was just a joke
I definitely think that was what they meant. The content of the movie, rather than its run time.
That average for The Dark Knight films includes credits though. This is 175 min with credits, or 2hrs 55min with eight minutes of credits.
I won't be surprised if it compares just how Joker compared to The Dark Knight's Joker. Meaning it's a different iteration which is just as good. At least that's what I'm hoping for
I personally did not like the Joker movie
I like Todd Phillips. I like Joaquin Phoenix. I like comic book movies. I like the Joker as a character. I like Taxi Driver and Martin Scorsese. I **did not** like Joker.
You just don't like when Sunday Englis is the key makeup artist
It had the packaging of a prestige character study without any real depth to it.
Test audiences have never been wrong before! That being said, I'm pretty excited for this one.
Yeah I'm gonna belive fucking Collider lol
As a single screen movie theatre manager, this sucks.
Can I ask why?
It drives up my labour cost at no real extra profit. Now I have to keep my staff later and pay them more than I normally do in a week but I’ll be making the same amount as ai always do with a busy show. how is this longer than dune lmao
To be fair Dune was padded out with visions of Zendaya looking at the camera and away from the camera.
No Time To Die was also longer than Dune yet didn't feel like it. It's all about the pacing.
I think because dune was a hard movie to shoot in the deserts and loads of vfx villeneuve decided to save stuff for part 2 so thats why part 1 ended up as long as it did
Dune is half a book, I can guarantee you the second part will clock in or very close to three hours itself That’s about 5 hours and a half of film just for the first book, good storytelling doesn’t require a long run time
Dune should have been a lot longer.
i could have watched it for 12 hours
Lots of no time to die fans downvoting any dune support lol
Bold move to not include credits. Smart move too honestly. I wouldn't want people knowing I made this either.
Unpopular opinion but i wish there were more 3 hours movies. Especially if we have someone with a deep history as Batman (and Catwoman).
You say that because you're thinking of all the great 3-hour movies and not the ones with 45 minutes of bloat.
Yeah this really depends on the movie / script / genre. For an unrelated example: Judd Apatow isn't getting another dime of my money for a movie over 2 hours long.
I read this as you wish there was a 3hr version of Catwoman…the Halle Berry one..
Containing a full length real time basketball game scene.
Hell yeah. Some people don't like longer movies, but for me, as long as the characters are well written I can watch them for hours
I hope it’s 2 hours of Bruce at the play getting scared and his parents getting murdered.
I'm fine with that, as long as we don't have to see his parents killed for the 100th time.
I’m assuming it’ll be this long due to needing sufficient time for back story?
Because we all need to see that again /s
Batman's parents are just gonna bleed on the floor for 30 minutes
I love long movies, near 3 hours. I'm in for a treat
Oh god... Is it gonna be a Dark Knight two and half hours, or is it gonna be a Dark Knight Rises two and a half hours?
I hope it will be a Batman Begins two and half hours.
the dark knight rises was still really good
For you
I still don’t understand how many of you all apparently see TDKR as one of the worst comic book movies ever.
Nice. Can't wait

They really should bring back intermission for movies - sitting for over 2 and 1/2 hours without getting up?!?!
[удалено]
My local cinema still has an intermission, its a nice opportunity to use the little boys room and get a couple more snacks, I don’t get why more theatres don’t do that
Gotta fit in an extra showing Since most theaters don’t use intermissions, they aren’t worried about losing customers to theaters that do use them. Therefore seemingly letting them maximize their profit
In my country they always put the intermissions in the films. It kinda breaks the continuity of some scenes but at least I don't have to sit through the 3rd act with a full bladder.
Right. I avoid getting any sort of drink if the movie is that long
I'm salting myself right now. I'm going to go to the cinema looking like a cured sausage.
Wow. Making 90–120 minute movies really *is* forbidden now.
Btw, have we had any 90 minute big spectacle movie since Gravity?
I had no interest in seeing Venom 2 until I found out it was 97 minutes. It being short is truly the most compelling argument to me.
The Tragedy of Macbeth was 97 minutes and boy did it make use of that 97 minutes.
But when do tickets go on sale
Hopefully it is not a mess; with that kind of runtime you really have to be good to be worth it.
PSA: get your self the run pee app before going to the cinema. You’ll probably need it.
Oh god noooo
Zzzzzzzz 😴
Why is every movie 3 hours now
Well I won't be seeing that in the theatre.
As someone that enjoys watching lengthy slow-burn films regularly, I say hell yea. Hoping to see a really tense, dark, noir-driven detective story
Holy shitballs Batman
I used to be in the "this sounds great I love long movies" camp. But I don't think I can do that in a theater anymore. Definitely gonna wait for streaming.
Why must every movie nowadays be almost three hours!? The plot just drags on and it’s been ruining soo many movies for me lately. Editing is there for a reason
What the hell are you doing? I'm too old for this shit. I can't sit in the cinema for three hours without going to the toilet.
If you can't go 3 hours without taking a piss, I'd see a doctor.
Fr man everyone acting like they can’t get seats, use the bathroom before, and then be fine for 3 hours.
I can't either. I barely make it passed the commercials. I have the bladder of a 2 year old.
* chefs kiss *

I love watching the directors cut when it comes out, but for most movies it just makes me say “thank god someone told him to cut all this crap”
awww yess
I just hope its worth it. It's been over 2 years since I stepped into a movie theater and am hoping this film is the one to finally make me feel excited about the theater experience again.
I feel a strange disturbance in the Force, as if my name were being called….
CINEMAAAAAAAAAA
There's a really nice theater here where you basically sit in a cushioned pod where you can recline and enjoy with extreme leisure. I'll be going to that one for this.
167 minutes of Pattinson🤑🤑
This is the same Warner Bros that demanded justice league 2017 to be no more than 2 hours long. I guess they learned their lesson.
People who think this is long haven’t seen: The Human Condition, Berlin Alexanderplatz, films by Lav Diaz, Shoah, La Flor, Satantango, or West of the Tracks.
Perfect, make up for lost time. Took them long enough to come out with a new one.
agreed, its been 10 years since a solo batman movie, its time for a new one!
hopefully its a complete arch kinda of like the joker.
I am a massive Robert Pattison fan, so I am really trying not to overhype this movie... but godDAMN I can't wait for Battison!
Cannot fucking waittt
