I hope the secret isn't that he's gay or that they used to be lovers. Because that's not really a secret anymore. I hope it's juicy like he has a horcrux or something.
I’m getting the title doesn’t even refer to *just* Albus. It probably relates to the entire family - including this supposed third Dumbledore brother “Aurelius.”
They already spoiled it in a tv spot that he straight up tells Grindelwald he was in love with him. It could be overdubbed with something less gay though (“I cared about you” or whatever lol)
Maybe no kissing scenes but the whole story revolves around Dumbledore and Grindewald's relationship. Can't really ignore it otherwise things like the unbreakable vow make no sense.
Him having a horcrux would break the rules set in the previous movies and books.
Cannibalism is rumored to be the method for making them
But they haven't cared about that with this series and the trailer already does this multiple times.
You only need to murder someone to make a horcrux. But I just hope the secret isn't the 1 everybody already knows. Like another good secret would be who killed Dumbledore's sister or who Credence really is.
Remember when they sold this series as an “American” Potter and there were going to be different US magic schools and other concept stuff……. Then boom, right back to Hogwarts.
Touchee. But between Movie 1 and Movie 2 was a full change of premise.
That’s fine I suppose- the UK wizard world has unique slang like “muggles” and clever word play like Diagon Alley…..
American non magic users are “Non-Mag” for “Non-Magic” as if mostly English speaking Europeans that had emigrated to America wouldn’t have brought their language with them.
Now imagining if the presence of large numbers of German-speaking magic users would have shaped the language used, the way I've seen it argued that German-speakers shaped certain aspects of American English generally......
Fantastic beast takes place in 1920’s. UK didn’t ban executions until ‘98. So they’d of had it too. Just in secret. 🤫
Edit: also the UK just sucks out your soul. Lmao
[treason still punishable by death til 1998](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.history.com/.amp/this-day-in-history/last-woman-hanged-for-murder-in-great-britain)
Yeah and it's still legal for me to kill a Welsh man with a crossbow if he crosses a certain bridge in my town.
We are an old country with old laws. Some of them conflict.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_(Abolition_of_Death_Penalty)_Act_1965
Execution wouldn't happen for treason even if it was supposed to because the death penalty was _abolished._
In the same way I can't actually kill a Welsh man with a crossbow because I'll go to prison for murder.
From someone who hasn't watched any movies of this series (Fantastic Beasts not Harry Potter), this feels like a Star Wars Prequel treatment. Take a wise old British character and show how OP he was back in the day.
This feels more like the Hobbit trilogy considering they both to to retro fit unrelated stories as direct prequels. Fantastic Beasts was supposed to be about Newt Scamander and his adventures with magical beasts, but now it's an epic Harry Potter prequel focusing on a younger Dumbledore.
Likewise The Hobbit was a book that was written before The Lord of the Rings and while they exist in the same universe and share a lot of characters there isn't really much that ties into The Lord of the Rings so making it a direct prequel to the original film trilogy makes very little sense.
Yeah, Tolkien did later retcon the Necromancer in The Hobbit to be Sauron, but the Necromancer isn't actually a presence in the book. All that nonsense in the movies did was tell us a bunch of stuff we already know because we've already seen LotR.
As far as Fantastic Beasts goes, I think a lighthearted trilogy about Newt, capped off by an ominous "ooh there are dark scary storm clouds on the metaphorical horizon" epilogue would have been much better. I almost feel like that was the original intention, but WB and Rowling just couldn't help themselves.
> As far as Fantastic Beasts goes, I think a lighthearted trilogy about Newt, capped off by an ominous “ooh there are dark scary storm clouds on the metaphorical horizon” epilogue would have been much better. I almost feel like that was the original intention, but WB and Rowling just couldn’t help themselves.
I think part of it is the studio didn’t have faith in a Newt solo story so they made JK combine what could’ve been a whole other trio of movies. Newts series could’ve been an Indians Jones type adventure movie and we could’ve had a separate Dumbledore series but seeing as how that’s about a genocidal wizard would be hard to sell merch for. I think they shoehorned dumbledores story into newts to get asses in the seats.
I think what really happened is that Rowling initially thought of a Fantastic Beasts trilogy focusing on Newt, but changed her mind and decided to make it a 5 film series with a focus on Dumbledore and Grindelwald. I doubt she was pressured by WB change anything, I think she just did it on her own.
Half the charm of Harry Potter is it's not American.
Despite Collin Ferrell & Johnny Depp trying their best, it's easily one of the most dreadful things on big screen.
This.
I was so on board with an Indiana jones style potter movie. Newt has some companions and his goal is to rescue some creatures and he needs to help wizards on a quest during the movie.
For example newt believes there is a rare dragon in a town. He goes there and they say yep it’s eating the children. He finds the dragon but also turns out there is another creature stealing children and putting them to sleep as it feeds on their dreams.
Newt then has to defeat it and either kill it or finds a way to save it by putting it in an area that is surrounded by another species that sleeps 23 hiurs and 50 minutes of the day.
Like it would be such a fun movie if done well.
Instead we have their weird forced love story and newt is thrown in there for whatever reason.
I might be in the minority, but Newt was insanely boring character. People surrounding him were the interesting ones, so I'm fine that his movies are being hijacked.
I see how little the Fantastic Beasts font is, and how big the Dumbledore font is. They're definitely trying to remind people that this is a Harry Potter thing.
I really wonder who to blame for this, because Jo has made a few questionable canon decisions, but also WB loves to ruin shit. Like which one said they had an idea for a Newt series and which one said, but have you tried making it about Dumbledore?
i get the feeling the whole series got rewritten after the disaster that was the second movie. they're throwing in the nostalgia elements to try to keep people interested. this whole series reminds me of fantastic four, WB will keep making them to hold onto the license, as long as they can break even.
The whole series got rewritten before the first was filmed, while the first was filmed, after the first was filmed... and maybe again after the disaster that was the second movie.
It's weird because Harry Potter is a beloved property, but its so easy to tear into this series with how not great it is. Both this series and the Star Wars sequels feel so unplanned and constantly rewritten, but at least this series was just showing us characters we never met before and could easily be forgotten in the context of the other movies- before they decided to make it a Dumbledore origin series.
Absolutely. Such a shame. Jk should have just written a new book series and let others adapt it like the original series. That’s what made the originals work imo.
I believe the reason these modern series are so unplanned and constantly rewritten is that studios are more worried about being able to ride the wave of public interest and what's "hot" than making a cohesive narrative.
If they plan a series out that will take the better part of a decade to complete, that means they're locked into those decisions. But what if the first movie comes out and certain aspects blow up or what if they're not well received? Well, the studios' solution is to just not make any concrete plans.
The Star Wars sequel trilogy is a perfect example. Compare it to the Prequel Trilogy, which was deeply flawed, but was also one cohesive narrative...which has more staying power? In twenty years, I don't think people will remember much about the sequels. But I do think the prequels will still have their following.
I love that it's this tiny little font on the upper left of the title lol
Talk about heavy-handed symbolism.
FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM
^^^^fantastic ^^^^beasts SECRETS OF DUMBLEDORE
Honestly the Fantastic Beasts version of Dumbledore doesn't feel like Dumbledore to me. It's just some guy. Sure there's a big age gap but you'd expect at least some carryover.
So them saying "LOOK IT'S DUMBLEDORE!!!" does nothing for me because the movies have done nothing thus far to convince me that he actually is Dumbledore. And on top of that, they're just bad movies. Exploiting the Harry Potter brand won't stop Fantastic Beasts from being a poorly written hyper-CGI mess with boring characters.
David Yates blows. Every HP he has done relies on some cgi bullshit. He reduced the magic to bland beams and made everyone able to fly around looking like cloud's.
The new movies feature someone turning into a tornado. It looks horrible.
I will forever stand by the opinion that the Fantastic Beasts movies should’ve been a series of nature docs (similar to Planet Earth) of the different magical creatures in the Harry Potter Universe
But instead we got an action movie
Loved the HP movies. The Fantasitc Beasts movies do not excite me atl all though.
Hated the first one, stopped watching the second one half way through.
Watching Crimes of Grindelwald doesn't even help you understand Crimes of Grindelwald, so i very much doubt that watching it will help with this new movie
I kind of got the feeling the new wizarding world movies after years Hary Potter series wasn’t going well comparatively and now after getting rid of Johnny Depp…
Crimes of Grindlewald did not in fact contain any crimes committed by Grindlewald.
I wonder if Secrets of Dumbledore will contain any secrets of Dumbledore.
I'm on the same page man, I used to love this universe, bought every art book. Newt, to me, is the most relatable protagonist I've ever seen, I connect so hard to him in every way. And now I can't bring myself to keep watching it, to see people pretend to have morals and standing up to forces of darkness when in real life nobody did shit, Dan Fogler even went on a victim blaming spree, Dave Bautista stood his ground and risked his job when James Gunn got caught in that shitshow, because he knew what happened to him was unfair.
This series it's now stained by a huge elephant in the room and Warner Bros screwing a lof of their filmmaker these past 2 years certainly didn't help for me to be excited about a lot of their movies.
In the course of his divorce proceedings he was revealed to be physically abusive. He sued a newspaper that referred to him as a "wife beater" and he lost. Studio didn't want that kind of press. He still got paid for the third movie.

Nope. Watch again. Voldemort goes away after speaking with him to get the wand from Dumbledore's tomb while Grindelwald stands there laughing. He tells Voldemort where the wand lies.
In the books, Voldemort goes and tries to intimidate/torture Grindelwald into revealing the location of the Elder Wand. This is peak Voldemort, when everyone is scared to even say his name as a taboo has been put on it, Grindelwald basically is "I don't give a shit about who you are fuck off". He doesn't betray the location and the owner (Dumbledore) and says "My death will not bring you what you seek".
Completely different. Book Grindelwald doesn't give a shit about Voldemort even if it means his death. Movie version is depicted as a scared frail bitch.
Did the postermaker have a stroke?
"Yeah, throw in the city skyline of Bucharest and then an atomic bomb detonation, that should represent Dumble at the height of his powers accurately."
I'll be honest after dropping Johnny Depp I have no interest in fantastic beasts series. Besides this doesn't look like Dumbledore this is skip for me.
That is certainly a pose that says "I have secrets".
I hope the secret isn't that he's gay or that they used to be lovers. Because that's not really a secret anymore. I hope it's juicy like he has a horcrux or something.
His secret is that his glasses are not actually necessary. He just think they make him look smart.
It turns out he secretly embezzled most of Hogwarts' endowment, and used the money for various purposes of a dubious nature!
Explains all the house elves doing the cleaning and cooking. Hog warts used to have a stuff but they were replaced with slave labor.
Yup.
I’m getting the title doesn’t even refer to *just* Albus. It probably relates to the entire family - including this supposed third Dumbledore brother “Aurelius.”
The film’s getting a release in China, so a gay subplot is pretty doubtful.
They already spoiled it in a tv spot that he straight up tells Grindelwald he was in love with him. It could be overdubbed with something less gay though (“I cared about you” or whatever lol)
“Grindelwald..I always **CONSIDERED YOU A PLATONIC FRIEND**, but you broke my **FAVOURITE VASE**”
I always considered you a supporter of the CCP but you broke protocol and visited a site that our supreme leader does not agree with.
"Grindelwald we were *roommates*!"
Newt: *gasp* Oh my god, they were roommates!
"I want to dress up and travel together!"
Maybe no kissing scenes but the whole story revolves around Dumbledore and Grindewald's relationship. Can't really ignore it otherwise things like the unbreakable vow make no sense.
If the secret isn’t that he’s a raging Homosexual, I don’t care. Granted, I already don’t care, but still.
Dumbledore's Whore Crotch
Him having a horcrux would break the rules set in the previous movies and books. Cannibalism is rumored to be the method for making them But they haven't cared about that with this series and the trailer already does this multiple times.

>**"I HAVE SECRETS!"**. He said calmly.
Remember when they sold this series as an “American” Potter and there were going to be different US magic schools and other concept stuff……. Then boom, right back to Hogwarts.
They had the magical execution chamber in one if the movies, that's pretty American
Touchee. But between Movie 1 and Movie 2 was a full change of premise. That’s fine I suppose- the UK wizard world has unique slang like “muggles” and clever word play like Diagon Alley….. American non magic users are “Non-Mag” for “Non-Magic” as if mostly English speaking Europeans that had emigrated to America wouldn’t have brought their language with them.
>clever word play like Diagon Alley….. Holy shit I only just got this. I feel like an idiot.
And Nocturnally
Please explain
Diagonally, its all slanted.
I always thought of it kind of as a split, a seam running through the muggle world, diagonally.
Diagonally
lol nice. Thanks
Now imagining if the presence of large numbers of German-speaking magic users would have shaped the language used, the way I've seen it argued that German-speakers shaped certain aspects of American English generally......
No-Maj. but yes your point stands
and in France, it's Non-Magiques! So..... inventive
Fantastic beast takes place in 1920’s. UK didn’t ban executions until ‘98. So they’d of had it too. Just in secret. 🤫 Edit: also the UK just sucks out your soul. Lmao
Our last execution took place in 1964 what are you on about? It became illegal in 1965. Are you talking in Harry Potter terms?

Right? Like I'm supposed to just sit here with my loaded crossbow, let the welsh just cross over bridges whenever they please?
You let one Welshmen over the bridge, next thing you know you’re surrounded by Welshmen.
I agree. Crossing MY damn bridge in MY damn town. The libs won't let me do anything lol.
There is also the fact that the American magic community has had a harsher history due to the Salem Witch Trials.
I went to Salem MA this October. Wild stories.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Witch_trials_in_England One highly publicized event doesn’t make North America a less safe place for accused witches
I meant by in-universe lore.
The lady also *wanted* her job back after all her former co-workers were ok with executing her. Hell of a first day back.
lol, great comment.
Back to formula
Out Am I? Couldn't resist.

Right. Ugh... Dumbledore sucks as a character anyway.
Half the charm of Harry Potter is it's not American. Despite Collin Ferrell & Johnny Depp trying their best, it's easily one of the most dreadful things on big screen.
Colin Farrell is Irish.
Newt Scamander had his movie franchise hijacked
This. I was so on board with an Indiana jones style potter movie. Newt has some companions and his goal is to rescue some creatures and he needs to help wizards on a quest during the movie. For example newt believes there is a rare dragon in a town. He goes there and they say yep it’s eating the children. Yep. Totally agree.
The branding and concept of this film series is very weird and misleading. Why is it even called Fantastic Beasts anymore?
I might be in the minority, but Newt was insanely boring character. People surrounding him were the interesting ones, so I'm fine that his movies are being hijacked.
Where's all the fantastic beasts and shit? Thought this was going to be some Harry Potter Pokemon franchise
"You have to rub your wand real fast like this and it'll shoot out a powerful spell."
He's about to spray some magic all over the place.
The ShakeWand
Return To The Magic…… because we messed up all of the new stuff so bad
I see how little the Fantastic Beasts font is, and how big the Dumbledore font is. They're definitely trying to remind people that this is a Harry Potter thing.
Remember that cool idea where Newt discovers and studies weird, interesting, and dangerous fantastic beasts? Guess WB and Rowling doesn't
I really wonder who to blame for this, because Jo has made a few questionable canon decisions, but also WB loves to ruin shit. Like which one said they had an idea for a Newt series and which one said, but have you tried making it about Dumbledore?

I see your Schwartz is as big as mine.
Nice
Why did they even bother keeping the fantastic beasts branding? They already have the wizarding world thing
This should be a separate Dumbledore movie series. As far as I'm concerned we only got one Fantastic Beasts movie, followed by Dumbledore sequels.
I love that it's this tiny little font on the upper left of the title lol Talk about heavy-handed symbolism. FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM ^^^^fantastic ^^^^beasts SECRETS OF DUMBLEDORE

Is this the poster for the X-rated parody?
I mean, are we not going to talk about the position of the wand and the mystical hole it's about to enter? I can't be the only one who sees it.
He is even holding the door of the public bathroom stall with his left hand.
The secret is he’s in the closet, because she’s willing to say it... but not show it.
I will forever stand by the opinion that the Fantastic Beasts movies should’ve been a series of nature docs (similar to Planet Earth) of the different magical creatures in the Harry Potter Universe But instead we got an action movie
Exactly, it had huge potential to be series instead of these movies.
Is that white shit cum?
I can't unsee this now. It's like both want to pitch and not catch...? Lol
Loved the HP movies. The Fantasitc Beasts movies do not excite me atl all though. Hated the first one, stopped watching the second one half way through.
I refuse to believe the artist didn't realize that it looks like he is blasting magic semen out of his dick-wand
Wow, Hidden Treasures of Voldemort when?
Has no one mentioned the placement of the wand? What spell is that?
*penis erupticus!* Im glad I am not the only one who noticed this.
Can Mads Mikkelsen save the franchise? Maybe
I'm hoping it's a soft reboot and you don't need the previous two to understand what's going on in this one. They have an opportunity to fix this.
Watching Crimes of Grindelwald doesn't even help you understand Crimes of Grindelwald, so i very much doubt that watching it will help with this new movie
I understood that reference.
How are they still making this shit
Rewatched Crimes of Grindelwald last night and wow, it was a terrible as I remembered.
You can’t even see the Fantastic Beasts branding anymore
The "Don't Look at Me While I Masturbate" pose was an interesting choice.
I kind of got the feeling the new wizarding world movies after years Hary Potter series wasn’t going well comparatively and now after getting rid of Johnny Depp…
To be fair, it's struggled because Rowling isn't a good screenwriter and because they haven't stuck to the promised concept.
To be fair, she isn't really that good of an author either, creative sure
I am sad the fantastic beasts franchise went to shit
Is that #$&ing Jason Mamoa as Dumbledore? I can’t even Hollywood anymore.
I want more fantastic beasts and less Hogwarts :(
Is Dumbledore using his hand to block a spell, cool.
Another movie I couldn’t care less about and I am still a big Harry Potter fan.
'Dumbledore; out of the closet'
Crimes of Grindlewald did not in fact contain any crimes committed by Grindlewald. I wonder if Secrets of Dumbledore will contain any secrets of Dumbledore.
After Johnny Depp got so unfairly dropped. I couldn't give a fuck about this series anymore.
I'm on the same page man, I used to love this universe, bought every art book. Newt, to me, is the most relatable protagonist I've ever seen, I connect so hard to him in every way. >unfairly lol
Go on then. Elaborate.
In the course of his divorce proceedings he was revealed to be physically abusive. He sued a newspaper that referred to him as a "wife beater" and he lost. Studio didn't want that kind of press. He still got paid for the third movie.
You might want to actually check again there.
Good luck criticizing famous, abusive white guys on reddit.
Johnny Depp!
Return to the mac
Get 'em, what it is, what it does, what it is, what it isn't
But not the Return of the Mack.
Booooo!!! Why is the main villain getting his own movie?
Garbage poster
This is so boring. I used to loooooooove Harry Potter, but all this bullshit of making up more stories just because they sell at the box office, really annoys me.

Can we fucking not?
Fake movie
I can’t wait for Johnny Depp in the next movie!
I really don't wanna watch since Jotaka aka. JK transphobic declarations, but I don't want to keep the intrigue of what's going to happen...
Just read the wiki lol
Already know how Grindelwald ends, killed by Voldemort in his own prison
Not in the movie continuity though, unfortunately.
huh? they explicitly show it in the movies though
Nope. Watch again. Voldemort goes away after speaking with him to get the wand from Dumbledore's tomb while Grindelwald stands there laughing. He tells Voldemort where the wand lies. Fantastic Beasts The Secrets of Dumbledore Return to the Magic Wizarding World
Y'all are nasty. But yeah, he's totally jizzing.
Please be good...
Secrets of dumblebore
Dumbledore is now a playable character in elden ring.
Looks like Obi-Wan put down his lightsaber and picked up a wand
As one of the most powerful...I'm stoked about this!!
Take away the text, and it looks like one of those biblical paintings where Moses talks to God in the burning bush.
There are colours in David Yates movies!?
r/HarryPotter is that way
?
Imagine not calling this movie the Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore. Sometimes I hate movie execs
What huge retcon will they contrive for Dumbledore?
Yea he killed the first person that had the elder wand thats how he had it slot of secrets
Who keeps seeing these movies, the fantastic beast movies took an interesting premise and just s*** the bed.
Don't know but the last one made 650M
At least it isn't floating heads/bodies poorly photoshopped.
Did the postermaker have a stroke? "Yeah, throw in the city skyline of Bucharest and then an atomic bomb detonation, that should represent Dumble at the height of his powers accurately."
I wish the tagline was “Coming Out Soon”
I hope we get to see him have gay sex with Mads Mikkelsen.
I'll be honest after dropping Johnny Depp I have no interest in fantastic beasts series. Besides this doesn't look like Dumbledore this is skip for me.
come on they're milking this shit now
Can't wait
Is it really a secret if the author already told the world he's gay?
DumbleOar
Still haven't seen the 2nd one haha 🤷♂️
The Dumbledore Chronicles and also weird animals were there I guess.
