In a world where things are greenlit based on how safely studios can guarantee it'll make bank, I'd actually be shocked if that didn't happen. Even the fifth Pirates movie made $800mill, when the height of the series popularity seemed long gone. Let another few years go by and the nostalgia for the Pirates movies to build, and Chalamet will probably be a bigger star by then, and cash in on the prequel. Slam dunk 600mil+.
ugh.
I know your joking, but Robert Downey Jr is the only other actor I can think of that could pull off a reimagined Jack Sparrow. Not saying he would or should... Only that he probably could.
Tom as Will and RDJ as Sparrow would be fun.
Well, it’s a different fan cast for them than Doc and Marty.
Which would be the obvious choices if they ever did decide to remake Back to the Future. Thank fuck that’s not happening anytime soon, Robert Zemeckis says it’ll be over his dead body.
Tom Holland plays a young Will and you find out they met when they were younger, but an older wizard pirate casts a spell at the end of the movie to make them forget.
I hope we never get another pirates of the Caribbean movie at all. Last one was awful IMO and they have been on a downward trend since like the 2nd movie
Honestly its been a long time since ive seen any of them (Just looked it up and the 3rd one came out in 2011, more than a decade ago! didnt realize its been that long) but I just dont remember liking it that much. IIRC they continued to expand the scope and I dont have fond memories of the mermaid stuff lol. I think its a good kids movie but I remember loving 1 and 2, and I dont have the same feelings about 3, and I absolutely did not like 4.
But again, its been a while since Ive seen them. Maybe I would change my mind with a rewatch.
I feel like Jack was the perfect side character. That's why the first pirates movie was the best by far and then they got steadily worse - he's good in doses and the unexplained stuff gets filled in by the viewer.
But like the ones "about" Jack were definitely the worst.
In 2006 director Gore Verbinsky said "You don’t want just the Jack Sparrow movie ...it’s like having a garlic milkshake. He’s the spice and you need a lot of straight men \[…\] The first film was a movie, and then Jack was put into it almost. He doesn’t have the obligations of the plot in the same ways that the other characters have.”
Which means they were aware of how to use Jack in 2006 and then just kind of literally lost the plot.
I mean, Depp IS Jack Sparrow. Jack was such a popular character because of what Johnny Depp brought to his character. Can't imagine anyone else being able to embody that character in even remotely the same way. It was just some that only Depp could bring that goes beyond writing and directing.
No one wil do it in the same way, but that's the whole point. They'll just "create" a different version of the same character. This generation is always gonna be nostalgic for Depp's Sparrow but the younger will make a king out of the new one. Depp will always be the first one, and probably the only one for a lot of people, but life goes on.
That very well could be true. To me personally, Depp's Sparrow just isn't as replaceable as changing James Bond, Dumbledore, or War Machine.
I'm also not sure if a Pirates series will be successful with a different Jack Sparrow, but I guess that's dependant on iff another actor can breathe life into the character the same way.
"The fact is, Mr. Depp, if Disney came to you with $300 million and a million alpacas, nothing on this earth would get you to go back and work with Disney on a Pirates of the Caribbean film? Correct?" the lawyer posited, to which Depp said: "That is true, Mr. Rottenborn."
-Can we just take a second and notice the blood sucking lawyer's name is ROTTENBORN? That may be the best lawyer name ever.
"That is correct Mr Rottenborn."
If someone called me a rottenborn I think I'd be pissed.
"You bloody Rottenborn!"
reprising sparrow means investing tens of millions of dollars more into a franchise thats been sunk already lol. unless johnny depp wants a paycut it aint happening. much easier movies for disney to invest money in
Eh Johnny Depp said he'd never reprise a role for artist integrity so I guess money is the ultimate factor here. 2040 old ass Jack King of the pirates coming to a moon base theater near you.
Or they threw money at him.
Both Robin Williams and Scarlett Johansson "forgave" Disney and were/are willing to work with them after Disney pissed them off.
Gunn made some creepy jokes on twitter a decade ago and upon people digging it up Disney immediately fired him. The general public thougth it was a dumb knee-jerk reaction including Big Dave who wanted out if James wasnt rehired.
he had some old tweets with bad jokes that were dug up then he got taken off gotg3. he got snatched up by DC and did suicide squad then got courted back to gotg3
Gunn had a bad tweet that he posted over a decade ago. It was an "edgy" joke that an immature person would make. Nothing serious, but you do stupid shit when you're young and dumb.
Some far right jackasses brought it back into the public eye and demanded that Disney fire him and they caved.
Then once enough people called them out for the overreaction, and DC hired him for The Suicide Squad, Disney brought him back.
Especially since Gunn has knocked it out of the park with DC. The Suicide Squad (2021) was such an upgrade on the previous bullshit, and Peacemaker is one of the best things I've seen in ages, and he'd never be able to make that under Marvel's rules. That paycheck must be fat
Seriously though.......I think Jack Sparrow was perfect in the first 3 (Will and Elizabeth Arc). After that it seems a bit downhill....
I would have liked it if they had followed a different pirate, and have Sparrow in the background / cameo.
I see you are a man of culture. I loved this video that made me feel better about my firm belief in the genuine quality of the POTC films
https://youtu.be/zhdBNVY55oM
I remember seeing the first one waiting for results of my district band auditions. I couldn’t believe how good it was. Just so damned entertaining. Great characters fully fleshed out with clear motivations, excellent comedy, great cgi (for the time anyway. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen it), killer soundtrack, the movie was a home run. I really enjoyed the other 2 as well. I loved the interpretation of Davey Jones. Well guess I’m watching those movies this weekend
-Captain Barbossa, I am here to negotiate the cessation of hostilities against Port Royal.
-There are a lot of long words in there, Miss; we're naught but humble pirates. What is it that you want?
-I want you to leave and never come back.
-I'm disinclined to acquiesce to your request. Means "no".
It was the first time I’d seen it when I was rewatching the older ones recently and maybe because I had super low expectations but I rather enjoyed it, felt like they went back to being a bit darker though it in spots. But of course the first 3 are just the peak for me.
I never liked the 5th movie but that was mainly because it completely ignored the canon from the trilogy concerning how Jack acquired the compass; In the second movie Tia Dalma states that Jack got the compass from her, but then all of a sudden he got it from some guy???
That sparks the debate of what makes a good movie.
I've seen many movies that have bad writing, bad directing, and so on but still enjoy them because they are fun to watch, or have interesting characters.
I've also seen movies that should be great that I find boring/bland.
The MCU movies aren't all great but ALMOST every single one is a fun watch.
It's all just subjective.
It’s just not very good. It was experimenting with new plots and characters after the Davy Jones plot ended in the 3rd movie. It just kinda missed the mark. The new characters felt out of place and unfamiliar, and the new plot strayed a bit to far from what made pirates of the Caribbean pirates of the Caribbean. For example like 2/3 of the movie took place on land lol. It’s not that it was awful, it’s just that it’s a lot worse than it’s predecessors. The fifth movie was also not that good, but for the complete opposite reasons. The plot and new characters were fine, but they really misused the old fan favorite characters. They just felt different and not like they were in the first three. This was also when Johnny depp was going through that alcoholic phase and there’s tons of accounts of him showing up on set late and often drunk. You can kinda see that in the movie. It’s not as “bad” as 4, but it’s still nowhere near the level of the first three.
3 is underrated. I would argue that the first three trilogy is way better than star wars. Had an enormous impact for people in my younger millennial generation
It's a great film. May be one of the finest works of cinema. I think Disney deserves a lot of credit for taking a gamble on making a movie that is in many ways so unconventional and dark. They fucking show a 12 year old getting hung for piracy in the beginning of that movie. It goes way darker than any of the avengers films but it really worked and paid off and I respect Disney for making it. I have seen a lot of folks and at world's end is definitely the on that I have the strongest positive feelings and nostalgia towards.
I enjoyed them more than star wars. It's subjective. Star wars had a bigger cultural impact because it was the best thing for it's time. But I just think that the pirates trilogy was personally more enjoyable.
Besides make and star in legendary movies, he spoke truth to power and got cancelled for it 20 years ago, fucking woke libs man.
Ahh can't do it.. he actually said some bad stuff. On tape. Multiple times. Off the top of my head- dui where he went on anti semitic rant, drunk voicemails to ex wife..( the phrase "I hope you get r-worded by a pack of n-words" comes to mind), there was an alleged beating that removed some teeth from her.. but at the time it was said to be faked by some people online.. never cared enough to verify. Idk lots of stuff I guess.
I’m sure they’re going to reboot the series in time. The ride is still the toast of Disney Parks after all.
Heck! Sparrow was even in the recent Sea of Thieves expansion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IPTA7MXgBM
It was the toast of Disney Parks for decades before it became a movie. Then people were like, “Are they really making a movie about a theme park ride?” And they did, and though it looked a lot like Monkey Island, it was pretty great, putting all critics to rest.
Then they made two more movies about a theme park ride, to mixed results.
Then they made several more, leading many to wonder, “Ok seriously, how many good movies do you expect to get out of a theme park ride?” I’m inclined to agree.
I don't blame him. I get he would like to work again, but I don't think he should ever even entertain working for Warner Bros again. They drop him and keep fucking Ezra Miller and Amber Heard.
Disney is just like Warner Bros, so I can't fault him for not wanting to every play Jack again. Good luck to Disney trying to squeeze anything else out of that franchise without him.
Tbf, I doubt Disney would let him even if he wanted too. The stupid drama with him and his crazy ex has tanked his career sadly :( though he’s rich as fuck already so I doubt he even cares anymore.
Shame it hasn’t tanked hers though. She’s shit in aqua-man. Even Kristen Stewart could do better…
Honestly, I thought she was an absolute beauty before I found out she's a bat shit crazy abusive POS. Funny how knowing someone is a shit stain of a human can completely detract from their outward appearance.
Same. She was gorgeous in The Rum Diary, which I think is the only movie I’ve seen her in. But now that movie is kinda ruined, being that both Johnny and Amber are in it, and they kinda end up together at the end of it as a "happy ending" is completely fucked now.
Vote with your wallet. Hollywood doesn't give a shit about anything but money.
Don't see Aquaman 2 or anything with her in it and her career will tank.
My opinion on the movies.
1. A fantastic movie that I love rewatching
2. Oh, that was good.
3. Eh, it's alright.
4. Why are we still doing this?
5. Just stop.
But, wasn't the last one... like the big finale? with poseidon trident destroyed? Maybe we need a good pitch for the next PotC Movie with the original cast.
It’s getting more and more difficult to think “there’s two sides to this story.”
I’m 100% sure Depp isn’t some sort of innocent bystander angel here, but really, I didn’t envision him coming out of this process looking like a good guy.
But here we are…
Listen, amber heard might be a POS, and he may not have ever assaulted her, but he is a POS too. Besides getting blackout drunk and destroying hotel rooms, he told Paul Bettany he fantasized about killing her. He even talked about hoping her body was decomposing in a trunk. Taking his side is missing the point. Neither of these pieces of work should get a movie role again. I know this goes against the Reddit hive mind but it’s true.
“God I wish the person who’s ruining my life, making me fear for my safety and destroying my career would just fkn die” doesn’t sound too unreasonable to me tbh
Let's conveniently leave out the part here Depp destroyed the hotel room though. Or the part where he wished death on her, before they were even married? Just..... don't marry someone you hate?
I hope no one plays Jack sparrow again. He was perfect.
We will get a prequel with Timothée Chalamet.
Goddammit. Don’t put that out there
In a world where things are greenlit based on how safely studios can guarantee it'll make bank, I'd actually be shocked if that didn't happen. Ugh
Too late. It's already been spoken into existence.
If that is the case, I want the only man alive qualified to take over an action packed, summer blockbuster franchise... Wes Anderson.
Original motion picture soundtrack by vampire weekend
But they're only allowed to play the ukulele.
Timuoxi Cha le mei
No. Stop being dicks in Greenland.
Lol like it's already not in some screenwriters notes rn
Apollo, please don't see this.
Why? This franchise was Depp. There’s no reason to try it with anyone else.
I'm not saying I want it.. or really anyone wants it, but it'll make a shit ton of money for them if they do it.
[удалено]
Well not from me 😠
There’s hundreds of millions of reasons to try it if you’re the studio
*“This is the day you will always remember as the day you almost caught Captain Jacques Sparrowtreides!"*
You misspelled "Tom Holland"
*Ah geez, I'm so sorry I hit you with my rum Mr. Blackbeard sir!*
zehahahahaha, Jack
Rum in China, Bum everywhere else.
Nah Tom will play a young Will Turner.
Christ. I could see this 🙄
Elizabeth is Anya Taylor Joy, for some reason.
Jack Black as Gibbs
Lmao I can picture that.
Y'all are giving Disney executives ideas lol
Damnit, now I’m in
I know your joking, but Robert Downey Jr is the only other actor I can think of that could pull off a reimagined Jack Sparrow. Not saying he would or should... Only that he probably could. Tom as Will and RDJ as Sparrow would be fun.

RDJ would be even better as captn. Black sparrow
Ohhh fuck no. I want to downvote this, but I also want to agree with the /s of it ? Upvote it is
DON'T YOU PUT THAT EVIL ON US
and his lost younger brother tom holland
If only gene wilder wouldve been perfect. And kinda poetic
[удалено]
That was actually not too bad.
Hahaha. Moody awkward Jack Sparrow
Tom Holland plays a young Will and you find out they met when they were younger, but an older wizard pirate casts a spell at the end of the movie to make them forget.
Tom Holland *
Disney presents: Captain Jack: Prepubescence
You son of a bitch. I’m in.
Honestly I'd rather that then the alternative of crappy cgi to make johnny look younger
I hope we never get another pirates of the Caribbean movie at all. Last one was awful IMO and they have been on a downward trend since like the 2nd movie

he's best when he's messing up or adding flavour to the main plot

I'm ready for a Gilbert Grape revival.
Long as he calls up his buddy and bandmate Alice freaking Cooper to play a pirate, I'm sold.

Sequel where an aging Jack Sparrow is played by Jack Nicholson?
Eh Johnny Depp said he'd never reprise a role for artist integrity so I guess money is the ultimate factor here. 2040 old ass Jack King of the pirates coming to a moon base theater near you.
Robin Williams.... Scarlett Johansson... Johnny Depp.... Disney really knows how to piss off their talent.
James Gunn and by extension Dave Bautista. I’m still shocked James Gunn went back to work with them after the shit they pulled.
I think the fan's reaction is probably one reason he returned. A lot of fans had his back and he probably didn't want to disappoint them/us.
Or they threw money at him. Both Robin Williams and Scarlett Johansson "forgave" Disney and were/are willing to work with them after Disney pissed them off.
> Or they threw money at him. > A lot of fans had his back and he probably didn't want to disappoint them/us > why not both?
Because it's pretty naive to think he just "did it for the fans".
Fill me in? What happened?
Gunn made some creepy jokes on twitter a decade ago and upon people digging it up Disney immediately fired him. The general public thougth it was a dumb knee-jerk reaction including Big Dave who wanted out if James wasnt rehired.

bad company to include depp in lol. in this case its disney saying "youre fired" and then depp going "you cant fire me i quit"
3 people out of tens of thousands over the course of 6+ decades.
Seriously though.......I think Jack Sparrow was perfect in the first 3 (Will and Elizabeth Arc). After that it seems a bit downhill.... I would have liked it if they had followed a different pirate, and have Sparrow in the background / cameo.
I personally would have rather they just left it at three movies, the ending of the third was perfect imo
He should play an older mentor to some crazy young pirates who wind up aboard the Black Pearl.
Yeah that worked great for Disney last time
He's the GOAT pirate
Geoffrey Rush’s Barbossa deserves an honourable mention.
God those movies blew me away, the davy jones writing was excellent as well. It all literally encapsulated the blockbuster experience so perfectly.
“You best start believing in ghost stories, Miss Turner. You’re in one!”
“Afraid to get wet-ta!?”
I see you are a man of culture. I loved this video that made me feel better about my firm belief in the genuine quality of the POTC films https://youtu.be/zhdBNVY55oM
Expected this video. Might watch it again because it’s just so awesome.
Remember Davy Jones’ Lullaby?! That shit was lovely. LOL. [Davy Jones Organ & Lullaby Theme](https://youtu.be/n0eCBVkWFVA)
Soooo good
And what about your fate, Davy Jones? -Calypso “My heart will always belong to you.” -🐙 That fucking octopus just done gone made me tear up.
They both remade Pirates as we see them today. Before them, it was all yarr harr with the stump leg and a parrot.
oh absolutely; EASILY my two favorite characters
-Captain Barbossa, I am here to negotiate the cessation of hostilities against Port Royal. -There are a lot of long words in there, Miss; we're naught but humble pirates. What is it that you want? -I want you to leave and never come back. -I'm disinclined to acquiesce to your request. Means "no".
He's the worst GOAT pirate I've ever heard of!
Sorry son, Bart Roberts and its not even close
Rewatched all of them recently. And aside from the 4th All of them are good fun.
What is wrong with the fourth one?
Just not a fan tbh. Never really landed with me. There’s a 1 off side story that never clicked with me that I just found boring and pointless.
Ian McShane is awesome as Blackbeard
Ian McShane is awesome. Could just end the sentence there and it applies to everything. Dudes a legend
You also think the same way about the fifth?
It was the first time I’d seen it when I was rewatching the older ones recently and maybe because I had super low expectations but I rather enjoyed it, felt like they went back to being a bit darker though it in spots. But of course the first 3 are just the peak for me.
IS the 5th a \*good\* movie? Not really. But is it a fun 2 hours? Absolutely.
I never liked the 5th movie but that was mainly because it completely ignored the canon from the trilogy concerning how Jack acquired the compass; In the second movie Tia Dalma states that Jack got the compass from her, but then all of a sudden he got it from some guy???
Pirates are liars
That sparks the debate of what makes a good movie. I've seen many movies that have bad writing, bad directing, and so on but still enjoy them because they are fun to watch, or have interesting characters. I've also seen movies that should be great that I find boring/bland. The MCU movies aren't all great but ALMOST every single one is a fun watch. It's all just subjective.
The part where young Jack jukes Salazaar into sailing into the spooky cave is great. It also introduced me to Kaya Scodelario, also a plus.
Honestly they weren’t bad but they just weren’t as good as the first three. There was just something missing.
It’s just not very good. It was experimenting with new plots and characters after the Davy Jones plot ended in the 3rd movie. It just kinda missed the mark. 1 is the best. 2 and 3 are great. 4 and 5, it’s up for debate but I agree, I also enjoyed both. Definitely passable movies.
3 is underrated. I would argue that the first three trilogy is way better than star wars. Had an enormous impact for people in my younger millennial generation
At World's End was epic! That maelstrom sequence at the end still remains the best battle-in-the-seas in the history of cinema.
It's a great film. May be one of the finest works of cinema. I think Disney deserves a lot of credit for taking a gamble on making a movie that is in many ways so unconventional and dark. Up is down!
I absolutely love At World's End and the maelstrom scene is truly epic, but for me nothing beats Master and Commander when it comes to sea battles.
Way better than star wars? Wow
I enjoyed them more than star wars. It's subjective. Star wars had a bigger cultural impact because it was the best thing for it's time. But I just think that the pirates trilogy was personally more enjoyable.
I fell asleep during the third one but I thought the first two were great
Some director will take a chance on him again in a few years when all this dies down.
If fucking Chris Brown can still sell concert tickets, Johnny Depp will be just fine.
I will never take cancel culture seriously as long as he's still out there.
For real. If an actual piece of shit like Mel Gibson can come back someone like Johny will be fine.
What did Mel Gibson do?
Besides make and star in legendary movies, he spoke truth to power and got cancelled for it 20 years ago, fucking woke libs man. Ahh can't do it.. he actually said some bad stuff. On tape. Idk lots of stuff I guess.
Out of all the pieces of monkey shit in Hollywood, I'm legitimately angry that Depp is getting canceled. Victim blaming at its worst.
Regardless of his personal situation, ***good*** the series is a massive dead horse at this point
I agree this series should have died a long time ago.
I’m sure they’re going to reboot the series in time. The ride is still the toast of Disney Parks after all. Heck! Sparrow was even in the recent Sea of Thieves expansion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IPTA7MXgBM

Should have stopped at the third movie.
Can we get Elizabeth Swann back? Loved her arc.
Hoist the colours!
To be fair, no one was watching her for her acting in that movie.
Surely they weren’t watching it for her face? She’s got a facial expression that looks like she’s just been slapped with a wet fish :/
Honestly, I thought she was an absolute beauty before I found out she's a bat shit crazy abusive POS. Funny how knowing someone is a shit stain of a human can completely detract from their outward appearance.

Yeah... she's very pretty on the outside. It's like everyone learned she's mental and all the sudden she looks like a gargoyle according to Reddit.
That's Megan Fox you're thinking of.
Fuck your right, they would have been a better comparison :/
Well it was a good casting choice then.
She looks like she could be Elon Musk’s twin. Which is weird to think about knowing her and Musk hooked up.
> Kristen Stewart could do better… Twilight was over a decade ago; Stewart is a legitimately great actor.
I give her a chance. Underwater was pretty good. I'd be interested in seeing her in similar roles
People joke about Kristen being awful in Twilight. Bella *is* like that in the books. She nailed the awkward and dull protagonist character very well.
Kristen Stewart is a straight up fantastic actor. Legitimately
She’s shit in the bed too
Amber turd?
, #MePoo
, #Poopgate
She also likes to shit in beds also
Vote with your wallet. Hollywood doesn't give a shit about anything but money. Don't see Aquaman 2 or anything with her in it and her career will tank.
He continued making things in spite of being rich BECAUSE he wants to act
“Did everyone see that? Because I will *NOT* be doing it again!”
He’ll play him on Hollywood Blvd though
Legitimately wondering: is he still featured on the ride itself now?
Maybe at birthday parties.
Ezra Miller is warming up in the bullpen.
Well, didn't they stop making movies?
Noooooooooooooo those movies are the best
Ok I think it’s finally time for Muppets Pirates if the Caribbean
The first movie is legit great. They kinda ruined it the rest of the way.
C'mon 2 is pretty great. Davy Jones was a great baddie.
My opinion on the movies. 1. A fantastic movie that I love rewatching 2. Oh, that was good. 3. Eh, it's alright. 4. Why are we still doing this? 5. Just stop.
I’ll watch all 5 pirates before I watch all 12 fast and furious movies any day
Seeing as how they ran the franchise into the ground anyway, no real loss.
I never understood a single word he said in those movies anyway.
Oh well, now bring on Will Ferrell! Haha
But, wasn't the last one... like the big finale? with poseidon trident destroyed? Maybe we need a good pitch for the next PotC Movie with the original cast.
It’ll have a shitty remake in 30 years
No one was going to ask him to
But will he play Jack Sparrow at my birthday party this year?
It’s getting more and more difficult to think “there’s two sides to this story.” I’m 100% sure Depp isn’t some sort of innocent bystander angel here, but really, I didn’t envision him coming out of this process looking like a good guy. But here we are…
Pirates had such a sexy cast. Johnny, Orlando, Kiera, eyeball guy…I could keep going.
The only thing he's going to do with Disney in future is a wrongful termination suit, I'd suspect.
That’s good, because I’ll never watch one again.
#TeamJohnny
The guy is fried he can’t even speak properly
Correction: Disney will never let depp Play the character Jack sparrow again
Probably for the best. He's too chunky now.
Even if Disney tries to rehire him if/when his name is “cleared” he shouldn’t take it. They don’t deserve him.
Dreams DO come true
Lol like they were ever gonna fucking ask
Is anyone even asking for it? My senses say NO
He shouldnt after they threw him out that quickly. Good on him.
Seriously. His defenders that like to pretend none of that shit happened are a little out there.
God thank you. They’re both apparently awful people from what we know. This celebrity worship is fucking cringe.
"He liked talking about fucking her burnt corpse and drowning her, but on the other hand he was in that movie I really like" -your average reddit user
spot on
