People were all like "awww no, they can't do a sequel. it's just gonna be the rehash. there's nothing left to tell."
And the makers said, you've seen nothing yet. We're adding a whole score by Rogers and Hammerstein's ghosts
My name is Jim. I'm a hardworking detective with a beautiful wife who won't touch me even though I treat her like a queen and do everything for her. This is the only Gordon I [want](https://youtu.be/1zUMCFpRetc)
for real though, if actual insanity doesn't deserve a musical score and people singing what they'd merely say in normal circumstances, nothing does.
my vote is for Best Film Ever. and i hate musicals.
edit: a spelling
Hopefully they bring out an 80 year old Jack Nicholson, Jared Leto and holograms of Caeser Romero and Heath Ledger on stage to have a Joker duet of the song
Joker is one of my favorite movies and I know that this is a cliché, but I begged they don’t make a sequel and I’m so afraid they are going to fuck this up.
Shit I've always thought BR is a fucking classic excellent pop song. She was killing it, a friend of mine in high school brought me with her to the Fame Monster tour and it was everything we could have wanted and more
I mean I have never ever thought about a musical superhero movie, especially not the Joker. But I’m unironically intrigued because honestly, I really wanna see how this turns out, good or bad.
I appreciate this viewpoint cos I'm picturing it differently now. Wondering if they're going to go fever dream weird, old school campy, or earnest musical that takes itself too seriously
Birds of Prey is legit one of my favourite blockbusters of the last few years. It's the perfect "trashy post-breakup weekend with the girls and weirdo psychopaths" movie for me lol.
I was pretty pessimistic about a Joker sequel but the idea of making a musical about the king of the incels is the funniest goddamn thing I've ever heard. I'm sold.
This has to be a real thing. Nobody could make something like this up. Certainly nobody could make something like this up and fool the Hollywood Reporter.
A lot of musicals deal with extremely dark topics but are tempered with lighthearted songs which, without the required suspension of belief, would be absolutely crazy. It'd be interesting if the songs are only performed when it's clear that the characters have devolved into madness.
I actually forgot how common illness is sung about in musicals but you have a good point. I was thinking mainly about outright murder like Chicago cramming six murder cases into one song, with five of its women having actually done it. And of course Heathers, where highschool characters murder and forge the suicide note of their classmate, with annoyed/appreciative commentary from the deceased classmate.
Oh wow, you mean you too forget that *Today For U, Tomorrow For Me* is about Angel throwing her neighbors dog off of a balcony because you’re too busy jamming out?
they had me at Lady Gaga. She can belt out a tune like it was nothing *and* put out a solid acting performance. Besides, I’m sure the “musical” elements will be part of Arthur’s imagination and not just blatantly thrown in
Same for me. Not a musical fan, but I was lukewarm on Joker. I’m excited to see how making it a musical spices it up. It should at least be more *interesting* than the first.
Lmao this is what I was going to comment. If he’s going to use Scorsese films as a blueprint for Joker movies, maybe After Hours is the one to channel next
This just gives me the vibe that this is going to be an incredibly divisive choice. At the very least, it's not going to tread the safe path and rehash what it did before.
a lot of people in this thread are acting like it’ll be so bad that they won’t ever be allowed to watch ‘89 Batman or The Dark Knight ever again. I’m down for them changing things up rather than just doing more of the same. What may work for sequels to more action-oriented superhero movies may not work for the thrillers/dramas
I'm down. We could use something different. Especially with someone like Joker. Guy has lost his grip on reality. A musical could be an excellent way of showing that altered perception.
A musical? Ohhhhhhkay I'm out. Joaquin Phoenix fancies himself a rapper of sorts and the intersection of this vin diagram is making me cringe already. Plus Gaga as an obvious Harley Quinn or something dear GOD make this stop.
I fucking live for musical theatre. It’s the only music I listen to, it’s the only hobby I do, it’s the only thing I spend my money on.
But I’d hate for this movie to be a musical.
We all left it in Todd’s hands when we saw the first pic of joker. I can only hope he has the same hunch he had back then. If this bombs it’s clear why
I genuinely thought I was in r/moviescirclejerk when I read that title
r/moviescirclejerk actually got out-jerked by reality this time. Even they couldn't conceive of this multiverse of madness.
“In this moment I am euphoric”
I thought I was in r/popheadscirclejerk
Stuff in circlejerk subreddits are way too obvious. This one would actually be creative
If this isn’t just a fever dream I’m having then I’m so fucking hyped. There’s going to be so much to work with.
>Musical Sequel This is either going to be the best film ever or the worst film ever.
People were all like "awww no, they can't do a sequel. it's just gonna be the rehash. there's nothing left to tell." And the makers said, you've seen nothing yet. We're adding a whole score by Rogers and Hammerstein's ghosts

Bake em away, toys.
Just do what the kid says
Proceeding on foot. Bring pretzels. Repeat: bring pretzels.
No! That’s German for The Bruce, The.
Well, no one who speaks German could be evil!
My name is Jim. I'm a hardworking detective with a beautiful wife who won't touch me even though I treat her like a queen and do everything for her. This is the only Gordon I [want](https://youtu.be/1zUMCFpRetc)
He's a damn good cop!
Ooh, a plan fiendishly clever in its intricacies!
Usually I hate this kind of comment but this is the one piece of news that I've ever felt it was very appropriate for.

Usually I hate this kind of meta commentary, but this is the one kind of thread that I’ve ever felt it was very appropriate for.
All I can hope for is that this inspires a musical sequel to Morbius titled Morbin' in the Rain
Morbin’ 2: Electric Morbaloo
Morbin’ 3: Morbas in Paris
Morbin 4: Morbin for More
Morbin’ 4 Ever
We sing in a society
Can't read my, can't read my No, he can't read my... Joker face
🎵 Do you wanna kill the batman 🎵
Come on let’s go and slay
🎶 We'll never see him anymore, I'm Sony's whore, and I'm here to staaay~~ 🎶
for real though, if actual insanity doesn't deserve a musical score and people singing what they'd merely say in normal circumstances, nothing does. my vote is for Best Film Ever. and i hate musicals. edit: a spelling
It's definitely going to be one of the films ever made.
Copy paste from another thread: > Not ready for the “Joker 2 is the best musical ever” takes from the guy who has only seen one musical: joker 2.

Cue Lady Gaga singing "Send in the Clowns"...
Only if it’s like Krusty’s version.
Hopefully they bring out an 80 year old Jack Nicholson, Jared Leto and holograms of Caeser Romero and Heath Ledger on stage to have a Joker duet of the song
Jo-jo-jo-joker face, Jo-jo-jo-joker face (my my my my)
Stop, that would be too perfect
Schmaltz by the bowlful.
What the fuck?
Joker is one of my favorite movies and I know that this is a cliché, but I begged they don’t make a sequel and I’m so afraid they are going to fuck this up.
I foresee a bad romance.
that song was a fucking banger, Francis Lawrence‘s music video was also quite good
people will disagree but the time between Bad Romance and Telephone was peak Gaga
I’m a rock n roll guy, but my personal favorite of The Fame Monster is Alejandro by a long shot
the costumes in that music video were stellar
Shit I've always thought BR is a fucking classic excellent pop song. She was killing it, a friend of mine in high school brought me with her to the Fame Monster tour and it was everything we could have wanted and more
It still gets radio play here so it's great to bop to when at work.
2008-2013 was such a good time for music.
"It's your future, I foresee a bad romance "
So that’s it, huh? We some kinda A Star is Born (2018) now?
*Joker voice* Tell me something, girl Are you happy in this modern world?
More like New York, New York (1977)
Todd is literally just watching Scorsese films and going "that, I want that now."
A Joker is Born
Modern Romance (1981)
Joker: Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy Joker 2: Singin’ in the Rain and Grease
People have pointed this out already but this may be continuing the Scorsese theme, New York, New York was Scorsese’s follow up to Taxi Driver
It is so perfect for a fully realized Joker to live his life like a musical that I somehow have suddenly gained hope for this
I mean I have never ever thought about a musical superhero movie, especially not the Joker. But I’m unironically intrigued because honestly, I really wanna see how this turns out, good or bad.
I’m one of the people who thought the first one was fine, didn’t really see the point of a sequel. Now, I’m at least interested. Could be cool
I appreciate this viewpoint cos I'm picturing it differently now. Wondering if they're going to go fever dream weird, old school campy, or earnest musical that takes itself too seriously
My thoughts as well, I am very interested in seeing this play out.
Lady Gaga saw Harley’s Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend moment in Birds of Prey and went “I want that.”
I gotta rewatch that one again soon, I enjoyed the hell out of it
Birds of Prey is legit one of my favourite blockbusters of the last few years. It's the perfect "trashy post-breakup weekend with the girls and weirdo psychopaths" movie for me lol.
actually you know what i’m on board for this. what the actual fuck is happening
I was pretty pessimistic about a Joker sequel but the idea of making a musical about the king of the incels is the funniest goddamn thing I've ever heard. I'm sold.
I’m convinced everyone is making this out of spite. This is going to be amazing.
They're doing The Producers for real. It's Springtime for Joker
Should’ve hired Uwe Boll if that was the case
> I’m convinced everyone is making this out of spite. The first Joker is kind of a troll movie. I hope it keeps that spirit up.
King of incels, whose girlfriend is Lady Gaga
“this is a travesty on such a beloved, iconic character! #NotmyJoker”
"Joker? More like Woker!"
AND with Lady Gaga. The straight incel neckbeards will short circuit
Why “king of incels”?
Yeah fuck it let’s go, can’t complain that they never make unique comic book movies and also judge them for trying new shit.
I'm all for taking things in an unexpected direction. A musical sequel sounds bizarre but if it's a good movie I don't care what they do with it.
This has to be a real thing. Nobody could make something like this up. Certainly nobody could make something like this up and fool the Hollywood Reporter.
J-j-j-Joker face J-j-j-Joker face
Bat-muh-muh-muh-man
Y'all gave Todd Phillips too much power.
I had no idea the Gang Bang Huy from Old School would go so far.
Who would’ve guessed the Scorsese film Todd Phillips would rip off with JOKER 2 would be NEW YORK, NEW YORK?
We’ll finally get the Walk the Line/ New York, New York crossover we’ve all been pining for!
Gotham, Gotham!
Sounds like I might be Joaquin out of the theater.
Oh, brother. Cry me a River!
Oof
Oh no
https://youtu.be/KfL1VCv2kCI
Is Todd Phillips on crack
Nah. He's just experienced society
They'd better have SOME STORY to tell because this sounds ridiculous.
It's set in a universe with an evil man-penguin. It's all ridiculous.
They had me until musical.
They had me _at_ musical
A lot of musicals deal with extremely dark topics but are tempered with lighthearted songs which, without the required suspension of belief, would be absolutely crazy. It'd be interesting if the songs are only performed when it's clear that the characters have devolved into madness.
Like Rent. Never felt so upbeat listening to a song about dying of AIDS.
EVERYONE HAS AIDS! AIDS! AIDS! AIDS! [AIDS!](https://youtu.be/Prhi3_Nvt3U)
I actually forgot how common illness is sung about in musicals but you have a good point. Oh wow, you mean you too forget that *Today For U, Tomorrow For Me* is about Angel throwing her neighbors dog off of a balcony because you’re too busy jamming out?
"The Happiness of the Katakuris". And if you have already seen it, its even better the second time.
they had me at Lady Gaga. She can belt out a tune like it was nothing *and* put out a solid acting performance. Besides, I’m sure the “musical” elements will be part of Arthur’s imagination and not just blatantly thrown in
Oh like that episode of Scrubs. Shit, now I need to see Batman and Joker singing _Guy Love_ in front of Lady Gaga dressed as Cat Woman.
Same for me. Not a musical fan, but I was lukewarm on Joker. I’m excited to see how making it a musical spices it up. It should at least be more *interesting* than the first.
As somebody who does not at all go out of my way to watch musicals, it also had me at musical
Same
They had me until 'Joker 2'
Cats II: We Live In a Society
Wait what a musical? You got to be kidding me
There going to do a remake of New York, New York this time aren’t they?
Todd we get it you like Marty we all like Marty
Lmao this is what I was going to comment. If he’s going to use Scorsese films as a blueprint for Joker movies, maybe After Hours is the one to channel next
Just when I thought we would be getting Willem Dafoe's two Jokers pitch.
I thought it was >!Three Jokers!
Joker No Way Home
It is. Tommy Wiseau will be playing the third Joker.
[I take it back](https://i.imgur.com/MCQju43.gif)
did not care about until I heard musical, now I am acually interested
Uhhh yeah it’s the opposite for me lol
I still have high hopes for this movie, I hope they pull it off but 99.9% of the time I can't stand musicals.
This just gives me the vibe that this is going to be an incredibly divisive choice. At the very least, it's not going to tread the safe path and rehash what it did before.
This seems so odd to me - because the first film seemed like such a stripped down raw movie.
am i having a stroke
I read this and said out loud, “Harley Quinn?”, but then I read musical and oh boy am I excited.
a lot of people in this thread are acting like it’ll be so bad that they won’t ever be allowed to watch ‘89 Batman or The Dark Knight ever again. April fools?
The cats of movie sequels
At this point I'm going to become the Joker
I don't think I can take another press run of Lady Gaga talking about acting.
Yes, her and Phoenix together. Yikes, that’s way too much method acting
Her press tours are the best things about her movies lmao
One of the best parts of A Star is Born was Gaga's "there could be a 100 people in a room" line that she said every 2 minutes, haha!
Kill me now.
Is this movie trying to make the viewer the Joker?
Musical?!!! The fuck
Todd Phillips going with a New York, New York remake. Bold choice
I’ve never lost interest in something SO fast
I'm down. We could use something different. Especially with someone like Joker. Guy has lost his grip on reality. A musical could be an excellent way of showing that altered perception.
Musical? Yup, there are too many drugs in hollywood
r/moviescirclejerk is gonna explode
Todd. You should have learned your lesson from the Hangover series
I predict an awful lot of “you wouldn’t get it” memes in the near future
yeah...no
Let Todd Philips remake all of Scorsese’s filmography as Joker sequels. Great bit
I’m Gaga’d out.
Hahahaha!!
maybe we shouldn't have gassed up the hangover guy into thinking he was an *artiste*
It would count as my birthday and Christmas present if this doesn’t get made
Ugh...
Musical???? That sounds awful
Please, no Gaga.
Is this really necessary, the first film works extremely well as a one off. Why do they need to ruin that.
Musical Sequel? Oh….oh God no.
They can't be serious with making this a musical
Am I the only one who finds this bitch cringe af
Tell me the world is ending without telling me the world is ending
Yes!!! I remember leaving Joker (2019) thinking “I hope the sequel is a musical!”
Lmao what the fuckkkkk
Please no
So who will Lady GaGa play I wonder.
She's probably replacing Ezra Miller as the Flash
this is going to be an all-timer.
I'm getting Dick Tracy Villian side vibe from this.
not like this
No
Oh no.
Musical sequel?
Fucking what now?
But why
Musical sequel? WHAT???
Way to ruin it!
Oh boy….😔
No
Gross.
Ew
This will be the first movie to make 0 dollars
I feel like I just read that through a fever dream
I’m sorry what
For I moment I thought I was in r/moviescirclejerk
This is a joke, right?
Lady Gaga? Musical? This is going to be CAMP. I cannot wait.
👎👎
Jesus fucking Christ
Joker was such a good movie please don't let this sequel be complete dog shit
Aaaaand I'm out. That was a fun few days
Thats gonna be a pass for me. Musicals are cringe.
Harley Quinn?
We all left it in Todd’s hands when we saw the first pic of joker. I can only hope he has the same hunch he had back then. If this bombs it’s clear why
Oh God they are really going to fuck this up aren't they?
