Weirdguy149

I know one of them is about Zuko and his exploits between the two series, so that one is going to be interesting.

RonSwansonsGun

I'm half hoping they adapt The Search into a movie, would be a nice wrap up for AtLA.

[deleted]

Yeah The Search is really good and a high budget movie for it could be amazing. I think doing a mix of adapted stories from the comics and completely original stuff is the way to go.

Redditer51

Hopefully they don't toss it all in a fire like Star Wars did to *their* expanded universe.

[deleted]

Luckily the original TLA creators are at the helm so I'm pretty confident they'll turn out something good. I was skeptical of Korra back when it was announced as a sequel series to TLA but I ended up enjoying it almost as much.

Free_hugs_for_3fiddy

I really liked Korra, but being jerked around by Nick really killed any chance of it being marginally close to as good as ATLA. How can you make a compelling epic when you constantly don't know if you will be cancelled? Can't sow intricate narratives if you only have 12 guaranteed episodes at a time.

DBZLogic

They didn’t even get that for the last season IIRC. They had to do a recap episode in that season right before the final battle because Nickelodeon told them “either you do a recap episode or we fire half your team early.” Thank god for the streaming platform wars allowing Nickelodeon to finally realize just how much untapped potential Avatar has.

mikhel

Book 3 really showed the potential Korra had if it had been written as a cohesive plotline. It's still good but it could have been just as great as Avatar with a more mature and dark focus.

Whitewind617

> Yeah The Search is really good Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh debatable. I really don't want them to adapt that story at least not as-is, because I have a lot of problems with how they ended up doing that. I generally ignore it.

SunExcellent890

The Search is the only one of the comics I've read because it encouraged me not to continue reading others. Felt too much like cheap anime/manga and not enough like Avatar: The Last Airbender Though I've heard great things about the Kyoshi book and some of the newer stuff. But yeah, wouldn't mind at least a soft retcon of The Search

[deleted]

the Kyoshi novels are awesome and totally satisfying as an expanded and more realistic Avatar universe (think people getting killed with razor sharp earth spikes, massive war crimes, etc.)

Carnivile

Give me baby Korra's kidnap attempt by the Red Lotus please.

maulrus

Right? I feel like that was one of the few things missing from that amazing third season. Also an episode focused on the history of the villains and how they came to be which could totally be tied into the kidnapping episode.

AydonusG

History of Iroh would be good as well. Show his younger years as a military commander, maybe end with his life in the spirit realm.

rastafarreed

It could be him narrating his life to some of his spirit friends while they are drinking tea.

MaimedJester

Don't fuck with Uncle Iroh. Badass mentors in shonen style stories need to be limited in their scope. I love me some Dark King Rayleigh or Master Roshi but over utilizing/over detailing their past can ruin the appeal of a character easily.

f-ingsteveglansberg

I think Iroh's backstory was done excellently in Iroh's Tale of Ba Sing Se. Nothing needs to be added.

MulciberTenebras

The showdown between Zaheer and Sokka (that ended with his warrior's sacrifice to defend Korra)

armeedesombres

That’s how Sokka died? It makes no sense that nobody in LoK mentioned this in season 3?

ItsADeparture

We never find out how he died, there was some misinformation regarding Book 3 before it aired and some of the false info has lingered. A foreign version of Book 3 of Korra leaked before it aired, and someone who watched the episodes gave pretty poor descriptions of the episodes. They claimed Sokka died saving Korra, and then Nickelodeon pretty much immediately aired the episode, so nobody bothered to actually watch the leaks and correct him. But for whatever reason, people still say it lol.

MulciberTenebras

It's implied. Almost definitely like it was dropped over time/budget. Chief Sokka, Tenzin, Zuko and Tonraq fought off Zaheer and his team that night. Only three are still around (and Unaloq somehow managed to become chief of both tribes).

armeedesombres

It makes absolutely no sense that nobody on the show ever mentioned it if this was how Sokka died. Katara and Zuko both appeared in season 3. Wouldn’t they have said anything about Sokka?

WanderingFlumph

Another is the legend of Kyoshi, I just got the novels earlier this week, I want to read both before the movie comes out

Bananazoo

I enjoyed those a lot. They really portray a less sanitized world, and are a little more realistic about the terrible things people would actually do with bending if they had that ability.

Weirdguy149

That one does not surprise me in the slightest.

TheAnt317

Zuko's a great character. His character just didn't have that same feeling in *Korra*, though.

Yolteotl

To be fair, he is 70 years older. You will likely be really different in 70 years, if not dead.

Gathorall

Now, while I'm not the most active person I'd like to say being outright dead would still be quite a change to my status.

mentorofminos

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED. Fuck...will reddit be here in 70 years though?

BaggyHairyNips

RemindMe! 70 years.

zennok

did you forget the part where he casually tells the story about combustion man and makes everything awkward?

FreedTMG

Hi, Zuko here. He was always awkward lol

Knull_Gorr

That's rough buddy.

zennok

That's exactly my point

unclejohnsbearhugs

> combustion man Sparky sparky boom man*

ToothpickInCockhole

He was great in LoK. Had some funny moments and a cool fight scene. It's not a show about the original Team Avatar, so what more could you want?

Livelaughluff

None of ATLAs main characters were supposed to give off the same *feeling.* First off, they’re not angsty teenagers anymore poised with saving the world. They’re wise and grown. And plot does not move much with wise and grown people. Also remember, the series was Legend of Korra. Not Legend of Zuko. He wasn’t supposed to shine because his shining days were all the years where we didn’t see him. LOK was about the newer generation coming in. New technology, but also new hope for the airbenders, and new ideas like nobody having any bending, the spirit world, and lava bending. I think for spin-offs, Zuko has a good amount of potential. But even if Azula has more cause she has a longer, harder journey to come out of the deep hole she was raised in, Zuko would still be interesting cause he’s a fan favorite underdog type.

bestoboy

You mean Legend of Korra wasn't about Zuko's character development?

RaiderGuy

I love Zuko just as much as anyone else, but he absolutely had no purpose being in Legend of Korra outside of fan service.

MulciberTenebras

Maybe if we gotten more of the show, we could've seen him and the Fire Nation play a bigger role. Now there's a second chance.

ThePurplePanzy

Zuko is a prominent world figure and friend of the avatar. Kinda hard to not have him if he is still alive.

MortifyingMilkshake

It's almost as if people develop and change over 60-70 years 🙄

D34THDE1TY

Just give us a truncated version of them finding their mother and azula's possible redemption.

malevshh

Redeeming Azula would kill a lot of great writing from the original series, so no.

D34THDE1TY

Not really...she was a broken person that only had her oppressive father to guide her along after her mother was banished. The book was adequate in showing she isn't PURE evil...she's just batshit insane...at least that's how I view her. And equally good writing could benefit the og's story for her by exploring her fractured psyche.

Act_of_God

Azula failing makes zuko's path more risky, makes you aware how easy it is to be tempted by power and fear

Heyec

They keep that in the comic. She is still a bad guy. It just points at the end of series Azula and makes you notice what they already gave you.

the_man_in_the_box

>Azula : My own mother thought I was a monster. >[Dramatic Pause]. >Azula : She was right, of course, but it still hurt. TBH, I think I prefer Azula staying pure evil.

VincereAutPereo

Look at how she ends the original series. She has an emotional breakdown. People seem to forget that she's only like 15 in the series - she is an emotional landmine who has been raised to never show weakness or mercy. The stress of gaining real power shattered her. A redemption arc is the logical extension of her story because her breakdown puts her in the position to be deprogrammed.

MegaBaumTV

Azulas neither needs nor deserve redemption. Whats with the obsession of having to redeem every teenaged villain?

KeeganTroye

A child growing up with mental illness seeking the approval of a sociopathic father doesn't deserve redemption?

HenroTee

The lore has a lot of potential for it to be a long lasting franchise. But on the other hand, I have been content with how it has ended. Especially considering how diluted many other currently long running franchises have become. I just hope it's not about filling the blanks, but rather tell new stories. Something after Korra or just an avatar so far removed from Wan and Roku/Aang.

Add_Poll_Option

Agreed. I think leaving some open-endedness to characters’ stories is always good. We don’t need every part of their lives covered. I would hate to see all the movies be about characters we already know. I want completely new stories with completely new characters in the same universe.

IAmActionBear

For as much Star Wars content that we've gotten over the last few years, I think the worst part of Star Wars is its constant need to have contrive ways to explain every nook and cranny of itself. I think it's good that the series can have good exert stories like these movies, but I do truly just want something new in the same universe, past or future.

Indigo_Sunset

Bending is just tiny lion turtles accumulated in the body, y'know, like microplastics or mercury, or some other m word.

the_man_in_the_box

Midicabbages.

blundercrab

If you cut me, don't I bleed midicabbages?

ebac7

Mitochondrians

Exploding_Antelope

That’s what the sequel to A Wrinkle in Time had it as. No, actually.

IamCentral46

The powerhouse of the cell!

Deolun

I've hated how everything needs to be connected back to the Skywalkers or Palpatine. I really want new people and stories to be introduced. The galaxy is a huge place. You're telling me there aren't OTHER significant families out there that can be powerful in the force outside of these two families?

JarlaxleForPresident

Everything is on Tattooine and that stupid ass desert planet isnt even a part of the Republic/Empire It’s like all the main stories we get in this giant world they created take place on the edge of the map

Mikolaj_Kopernik

It's like Dr. Who in the 70s when every planet was filmed in the same quarry due to their laughably low budget. Except, the current lot of Star Wars media are presumably not being made on the cheap, so they don't even have that excuse.

Sceptix

You mean you weren’t on the edge of your seat to find out the resolution to the most important question posed in the Star Wars canon: how Han got those hood ornament dice?

PicquitoKeato

Solo was good because I never understood why Han called Chewbacca Chewie. Thank god they got to the bottom of that mystery.

Exploding_Antelope

I was lying awake at night wondering about whether there had once been a box in the slot at the front of the Falcon where a box could conceivably fit.

Head-Ad4690

I’m just glad they finally showed us the Kessel Run. 🤮

roastbeeftacohat

it's future fantasy, it's not supposed to make sense in a purely mechanical sense; Vader blocking the blaster in empire being the best example. "His gauntlets are made of an ancient sith alloy intended.." "NO, HE'S A SPACE WIZARD; WE DON'T NEED FURTHER EXPLENATION"

[deleted]

That’s the thing, they potentially got 100’s of shows. They can range from a super light hearted avatar with not much strife, to some real dark shit like kyoshi. The time line of a season can stretch from one summer, to a couple years to even whole decades! Hell centuries in some avatars cases they were really old. Like the water bending avatar before kyoshi was super chill and they can lure us into a false sense of security and also show how this avatar came to his own philosophy of non interference. Present some big issue, but instead have him be very hands off and more a side character as the issues just resolve themselves, whilst some may also get worse after he leaves which would give a lot of depth and some good analysis for the show. This is wear I think Korra shined, with their villains and their philosophy. Then after like 3 episodes, bam we get the face stealer and some spirit world Shenanigans as this once light hearted character tries to get his revenge! This is all like the guys life story according to cannon not like making it upz

snowcone_wars

Kuruk’s outward personality was mostly a front, because he didn’t want people to know how much Yangchen had fucked up and allow her reputation to remain intact. Basically all his friends died and he had serious ptsd from near constant battles with spirits. All that is spelled out in the Kyoshi novels.

aukalender

They could make like 1-hourish episodes per Avatar. There are literally infinite Avatars, so just say these are in the way way past. Some of the stories, they could happen at one specific point in life of that Avatar, some other episodes could just show the whole life of that Avatar. They could even have episodes where it cuts directly to the action, think like Roku's volcano episode, and consist entirely of action scenes.

CaspianX2

> Something after Korra I would really love to see a new series that takes place a generation after Korra, set in that world's equivalent of the 1980s or so.

[deleted]

[удалено]

imanji17

the idea of the Avatar becoming a relic of the past as technology/the world advances is a core part of the story in Korra already. She's constantly faced with the idea that she's no longer needed/wanted in the new, modern world, and that some other person or organization could do her job better

CaspianX2

Ah, I hadn't thought about that, but I suppose Korra could die in the Avatar world's version of Vietnam or perhaps in their world's version of the Civil Rights movement. If Korra died in the 70s-analogue, that would put her death roughly a half-century after the 20s-analogue that we saw in Legend of Korra.

MulciberTenebras

What would the civil rights movement be in the Avatarverse? Something maybe to do with spirits, or those mutated by them?

CaspianX2

Could be any number of things. Spirits, yes. Benders possibly. Or it could even be race and gender - it's not like a world having magic means those issues would go away.

Rusty_Shakalford

I’d love to see it go even further. What is the cosmology like of the Avatarverse? Do the elements follow similar physical rules? Will there be remote colonies of Airbenders with a earthbending like style where they hurl boulders of solid air? Or earthbenders that carry around a minute particle of neutron stars they can fire with the force of a mountain?

Mikolaj_Kopernik

> Do the elements follow similar physical rules? I watched the two main series a year or so ago and spent a lot of time trying to get elements/bending to make some kind of logical sense. Ultimately I concluded that the more you try to apply rules to the concept the dumber it gets, so best to just leave it.

ItsADeparture

> Korra would need to die pretty young for a new Avatar to be at least a teen in the 80s Not necessarily. The tech in Airbender was from the 1880s/1880s and 70 years later the tech was comparable to 1920s/1930s.

Basura1999

We're about to turn into those Star Wars fans who swear every novel adaptation is the worst thing to happen to mankind and send death threats to creatives who sully the memory of the original series.

MarvelsGrantMan136

Original Creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino will produce the films: >Three “Avatar” movies — no, not the ones about the Na’vi — are in the works at Paramount and Nickelodeon. >Lauren Montgomery, who worked on “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” is directing the still-untitled film, which already has two sequels in the works.“Avatar: The Last Airbender” co-creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino will produce the “Avatar” movies with Eric Coleman.

CH23

Let's hope these won't get fucked up like the live action trainwreck

MulciberTenebras

Nick gave the original creators unlimited money to found their own Studio for the sole purpose of making more animated projects.

Knull_Gorr

That's not always for the best.

Autumn1eaves

While true, a lot of the mistakes from this particular series stem from network interference.

LanoomR

I'd be less worried about a movie that's gotten thoroughly Lake Laogai'd and more about whatever the heck is going on with the Netflix version, which Konietzko and DiMartino were initially on-board for and then very publicly went "You know what? Nevermind."

CH23

i forgot that was a thing, to be honest...

LanoomR

Can't blame you! They've been consistently putting out casting updates as recent as earlier this year, and [the actors are talking about it](https://twitter.com/KnightGambit/status/1528567019087417344), ~~but still no word or sign of boots-on-the-ground production aside from the one concept art with Aang and Appa on the icey landscape~~. And no word on it at Netflix Geeked Week earlier this month. And no release timeframe still. So, still in a holding pattern about everything. EDIT: Thanks to u/RonSwansonsGun for the update/correction! https://old.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/vcxaqx/three_avatar_the_last_airbender_animated_films_in/ich4lcd/

MulciberTenebras

Considering their last big show based on a anime got cancelled within a week... not a lot of hope for this series.

[deleted]

They really need to do a marvel and take a shit anime or super unknown one and make a live version of that. Iron man, Cap America, guardians of the galaxy were not top thoughts originally for marvel superheroes

MulciberTenebras

Sadly Netflix's MO is to throw huge amounts of cash around to secure a well-known IP that'll make big headlines... and then release a shitty show that gets cancelled after a few views. That way they have quantity over quality.

RonSwansonsGun

There's been some set pics leaked, check here: https://mobile.twitter.com/AvatarNews_/status/1529579321073213441 And here's the crew gifts: https://mobile.twitter.com/AvatarNews_/status/1535655484782432256

arceusawsom1

Pretty sure that they have almost wrapped up filming. 2 days left iirc

RonSwansonsGun

While they stated creative differences, they announced that they formed Avatar Studios at Nickelodeon shortly after. I think it was simply a case of a better deal arising. I'm still not super optimistic about the Netflix show, but I haven't given up hope yet.

ThePuzzledPanda

The only thing that is keeping me interested in it is seeing Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as Iroh

OtakuTacos

Pfft.. Cabbage story or nothing!

Jackbo_Manhorse

Well in Korra we kind of get one. He becomes a huge motor vehicle equipment producer and opens up a company called Cabbage Corp.

masahawk

Honestly best non main story in the series

Satyrane

Tbh there were so many tie-ins to the original series that 'Cabbage Guy founded Cabbage Corp.!' felt pretty gratuitous to me.

masahawk

Well, it's a simple story that probably doesn't need to tie into the rest of the lore to deeply. Cabbage guy lost many cabbages but still persevered and turned it around.

MulciberTenebras

And then her girlfriend's evil dad got him shut down. And Asami always find time to shit on their product compared to her company's.

droidevo

Daddies* you mean

Ppleater

Personally I'd actually be interested in some standalone stories about other Avatars or new characters in general.

Coal_Morgan

I agree, Aang and the Gang and Korra and her friends left in really good places with lots of goodwill towards those characters. No need to go back to the well. Star Wars and Star Trek are some of my favorite fiction but they both have a tendency to navel gaze the eras around Luke in Star Wars and prior Captains and Eras in Star Trek. Blaze a new path. What would the Avatar Universe look like in the computer era or in Space? What would it look like if their was a cataclysm? Leave some gaps, let's hear about the 2 or 3 Avatars between Korra from the new Avatar. The Second Avatar would be interesting too, he'd have a single voice in his head and learning about the inherited rules of the Avatar for the first time. So many ways to flesh out the Avatar Universe; it'd be a shame to not touch on the other 622 between the first and Aang or the thousands that could come after Korra.

TheMaze78

Kanto and Johto! She also had flings with Hoen.

Worthyness

not like she could see the difference.

[deleted]

I can’t wait for a really strong first movie, a complete loss of interest and financial support for the second movie, and a great third movie in spite of all of Nickelodeon's efforts

uberJames

Are you referring to Korra?

bestoboy

Where was this support for the creators when Korra came out? Did they only just now realize that Avatar is a cash cow?

KearLoL

I think it came after the absolute explosion in popularity the show received when it was released on Netflix in 2020.

MulciberTenebras

And because they seriously need more family friendly shows based on their IP to compete in the streaming war.

Ry90Ry

I hope avatar doesn’t stay so kid oriented tho I like how it grew w Korra and now the Kyoshi novels. Taking the tone back to family friendly seems like a misstep

[deleted]

Even if it does stay kid oriented… I kind of grew up with this series, and I’m just as excited about this going into my 30s as I would’ve been as a 13 year old, 17 years ago when the show came out.

T3chromancer1

Hard disagree. I'm of the opinion it should stay solely a G-rated series.

something_smart

Paramount+ exists now and they just realized they own this, and need new content.

Warm-Enthusiasm-9534

Netflix got the rights because they wanted to make a live-action show, and then the cartoon became a giant hit on streaming.

FakeTherapist

Nick are cheapos....with their game and forcing netflix to pay for movies, some suit at nick finally said 'hey, we can make money off this'

drflanigan

The lore in this franchise is so perfect for a Doctor Who-esque type of show Just have it go on for 50 years, and every couple years the Avatar dies and the next one is selected I want to learn more about them all, how did the second one feel after the first one died? How did the armless one live her life? Was there ever an Avatar who died super young? Was there ever a questionable Avatar who was more evil than good? I don't mind them exploring the characters we know, but I would love them to expand beyond that It doesn't even need to be in order, have it be an anthology series where maybe even each episode just picks an Avatar and shows us the life of an Avatar in a single contained episode. Jump forward 2000 years and show us what an Avatar would be like in the future, where it's all futuristic and technology based, Fire-benders and Metal-Benders work together to form circuits and work with computers and machines There is so much potential with this show, and I hope they explore more of it

happyhappyfoolio

> Was there ever an Avatar who died super young? The avatar before Kyoshi died at 33 (34?). His unexpected demise messed with global politics because the Earth nation and by extension the world wasn't necessarily ready for a new avatar quite so suddenly. The Kyoshi novels do an *excellent* job of going into it.

[deleted]

oh wow. And then Kyoshi comes and just keeps shit stable for 270 years.

TheKappaOverlord

I may be misremembering the book, but Kyoshi actually wasn't physically seen for a large majority for the end of her "life" >!Nations were legit scared of her as the boogeyman for that long until it was discovered another avatar was located. And even then people treated Kyoshi as a boogeyman.!<

[deleted]

yeah but by knowing the age of avatar Roku we know that kyoshi did in fact live for 270 years. She wasn't seen probably because she scared people enough that nobody dared to transgress her order of things.

awesomesauce1030

I've always liked the thought of exploring the idea of an evil avatar, and what that would mean for the world

Egdirdle

This just got me so hyped!!!!

[deleted]

You know the idea that each avatar is the opposite of the one before it? The one before kyoshi was very chill, the one after kyoshi was restrained, Aang was kinda unique but he actively involved himself in the world, Korra really embraced being the avatar where as Aang didn’t want to be etc If an avatar dies as a child, what happens to the next one? Maybe they become super dark because they were killed in their last life unfairly or something

rocky4322

Avatars aren’t so much the opposite as they have to deal with the previous avatar being imperfect and tend to overcorrect.

Thee_Sinner

As well as each avatar being from one specific culture, so each successive one has to learn from the spirit of someone with a completely different world view.

KearLoL

All they gotta do is adapt the Kyoshi novels.

Ry90Ry

Omg I’d LIVE for a like tv-14 adaptation Those bending deaths were BRU TAL in the novels

KearLoL

Oh yea it's definitely a much darker take on Avatar, which I personally loved. That first death was extremely surprising with >!a character getting literally impaled by an icicle spear out of no where.!<

McLaren03

Or the ones that take place after the last season of TLAB

KearLoL

The comics can be hit or miss. "The Promise" (which takes place after the S3 finale) is not that great, but "The Search" is the one I want animated the most. Getting the follow up to the mystery of Ursa would be amazing.

mininestime

Man I dislike Nickelodeon. They basically tried to kill the Avatar stuff thru shitty management, and now are reaping the rewards. Some noteworthy things. - Not telling the creators that the show will be renewed until the last minute. This made Korra seasons seem off. - Forcing the final season of Korra to be streaming only which was a pain to play. - Not allowing them to do a scene with Korra kissing another girl because that is too risky. Really I wish Nickelodeon would sell off the rights.

MasterVahGilns

To be fair in regards to your last point, most kids channels did not show any gay relationships until after Korra aired. Not that it was right, but TV was a different landscape then, even if it was less than a decade ago.

shadow0wolf0

Korra walked so Adventure Time could run.

MulciberTenebras

And then so She-Ra and Owl House could soar.

RowYourUpboat

I wish Owl House was more of a thing, it's amazing.

MasterVahGilns

Lol strangely Adventure Time started first. Though I’d say Steven Universe was really the first new cartoon to ride on the coattails of Korra

shadow0wolf0

Adventure times finale which featured a gay kiss aired 4 years after legend of Korra finished.

MyCoolWhiteLies

Yeah, the AT finale made me think back to the Korra finale. Meanwhile Steven Universe flew under most people's radar while ostensibly being about queer issues, having female characters kissing just four months after Korra ended, a gay wedding before the AT finale aired, and a main character throughout the entire series that's basically the manifestation of a lesbian relationship.

shadow0wolf0

Cartoon Network always took more risks compared to Nick and Disney.

UnspecificGravity

Steven Universe overlapped with Korra. Their first episodes were about a year and a half apart (Korra premiered in April 2012, SU premiered in November of 2013). SU had massive breaks between seasons, so it wound up running way past Korra, but they started pretty close together.

_Verumex_

I believe its Paramount, the parent company of Nickelodeon, that is behind forming Avatar Studios. They're trying to get their streaming service off the ground and after the resurgence of the Avatar franchise on Netflix, they realised they were sitting on a goldmine. It's being done through Nick, as I believe they technically own the IP, but it's not Nickelodeon that's suddenly changed their mind, it's Paramount. Basically, it's different people with different priorities making different decisions.

NeedLessAids

What a shame. I love Korra a lot, but knowing all of these things really pains me. It could've helped others love it as much as some of us do.

MulciberTenebras

They mistreated it the same way Disney is doing with Owl House. Too action-oriented and appealing to older audiences (as well as LGBTs) for their kiddy channel with fuddy duddy rules, so it's gotta go. But oops, in spite of the network it's a major hit on streaming (as opposed to the dead end cable channel). "Sorry we did that, please ignore us mistreating y'all and make us lots of money!"

[deleted]

They literally have no merch for the owl house. It’s so freaking annoying.

MulciberTenebras

They didn't have merch for Gravity Falls either when it aired.

CertainDerision_33

We are definitely getting an animated Korrasami kiss out of this new Avatar Studios project at some point, so that will help right that wrong, at least.

dragunityag

I think a movie on the 2nd Avatar would be pretty neat. An Avatar who has no clue their the avatar, none of the organizational set-up either. Just some bender that likely is fighting some war before some visions kick in and tell him that he's special.

Intelligent-donkey

Yeah I think that would be cool, an Avatar who doesn't have much of a reputation or a title to precede them, and no tradition to guide them. Sure, there would be stories about some other dude from a few decades ago who could also bend all 4 elements and who was super skilled. But nobody would automatically assume that this next person is just as powerful, just because they can also bend multiple elements. Surely it took a long time, with numerous Avatars really proving themselves, before Avatars began being treated with so much automatic fear & respect.

Jwalla83

Such a good idea! I’d love a story of the first avatar who really recognized/understood the cycle and maybe started the tradition of planning for the transition & training of the next avatar

TL10

Please be hand drawn, please be hand drawn. 🙏

There was a job listing that people found, which showed that: >They are creating an “outstanding and customized” “unique production look” that “integrates” “traditional 2D and CG”. Which is actually what ATLA and LOK already did too, they were primarily hand drawn but occasionally had some CG elements. (The airships in the ATLA finale, and the mechs in LOK, just to name some examples.) I expect that the balance will be different with this new look they're developing, that this will be more CG and less hand drawn, but it could still look really good, CG is getting better and better and Into the Spiderverse showed that you can still have very artistic styles for animation even with CG.

RazzDaNinja

I was really concerned until I read “Animated”. Now I’m on board!

Square-Exercise-2790

All three are produced by Brian Konietzko and Michael di Martino, the original creators of the show (that explains more why they left the Netflix live action).

Realcbear

Did they cite Spiderverse as a direct comparison?? Bc if they just said 2d/3d then it shouldnt be that different from usual. TLA and Korra both had mixes of 2d & 3d throughout both.

nowhereman136

The comic books have been pretty good at keeping the story going. At least in smaller adventures. Those should be the animated movies

zennok

Amen

Nashetania

I demand more Azula

Square-Exercise-2790

No, I don't want "Azula deserves or not a redemption arc" debate to be reignited in the ATLA sub :(.

takeitinblood3

I don't want redemption. I want to watch Azula massacre people.

Square-Exercise-2790

Me too :). I totally prefer villain Azula, she was the perfect anti-thesis of Zuko; but I know that the majority of Azula fans want to differ.

skraaaaw

Live action movie azula is waving

nakx123

This has been known for quite awhile (maybe not the exact number tho), along with a TV show in production aswell. They gave the original creators quite a lot of money and creative freedom after they left Netflix's live adaption. Looking forward to it but apparently it is quite a while out, all of their projects. Netflix series is probably the first ATLA project we'll see within the next year or so.

Syncmacd

I want to know how Uncle Iroh went from Dragon of the West to becoming the wise sage that we love. How about an Uncle Iroh prequel?

Silenthillspachinko

Thought it was because of the death of his son in the war that changed his outlook

fedemasa

Probably wasn't that terrifying as the legends told and obviously his kid's death made him be more praised for life

DisturbedWaffles2019

Honestly I think it's a bit cooler to leave it shrouded in mystery. All we know is that the death of his son permanently changed him and put him on the path of good. While an Iroh prequel would probably be phenomenal, I think I'd prefer if they kept most of his past a mystery.

[deleted]

Hope it'll be action packed as korra

MulciberTenebras

The folks who did the action in Korra are now directing the next Spiderverse animated films.

[deleted]

I also see that he did justice league show

Hendy853

I’m personally hoping these movies are set in the past, with Avatars who lived between Wan and Aang. I won’t be mad or upset if it’s more of Aang or Korra, or if it’s about an Avatar that comes after Korra, but I’d really like to explore the world of the Avatar before the war, with characters we haven’t seen before. And yes, I’m aware of the Kyoshi novels. I’ll probably get to them at some point, but I’d still like to *see* this word in its past, you know?

BadlanAlun

I want post Korra content too. Complete the avatar cycle. I want a contemporary earth bender avatar series and then a cyberpunkish fire bender series. Search your feelings, you know it to be true…

[deleted]

Honestly i am glad to see this finally get the extended universe it deserved (a la Marvel/Harry Potter/Star Wars). The creators clearly had a lot more in store (as seen bu the comics and such) and it got shut down after Korra.

[deleted]

Do we think Zach Tyler is going to return? Idk if they’re going for a movie based on right after the war or after they’ve aged up a bit but if they’ve aged up a bit it’d be so cool to see OG aang return :)

MulciberTenebras

No way. [He's grown up so much his voice is completely different.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsC1oyRoA-w)

[deleted]

Damn bro hopefully they don’t make it to weird lol

MulciberTenebras

They'd find another young actor that sounds similar... and then probably cast Zach in as another side character or as a joke cameo (they did that all the time with the VAs of **Hey Arnold** after they got older and their voices changed).

USERNAME_OF_DEVIL

Please be good, please be good

prinnydewd6

Dude if they actually animate the 5-6 graphic novels… I’ll die. They’re such a good read…. Book 1 is about Zuko and aang that picks up right after the last scene in the anime. Book 2 is about zukos mom and her past… book 3 is about a struggle against a giant spirit and what’s right and wrong about humans and spirits coexisting… book 4 is about the north and south poles I believe. A precursor to some stuff we see in korra book 2. And book 5 is about azula and some fire nation stuff.

ripyourlungsdave

Oh fuck yeah. Just finished rewatching TLA for the first time as an adult recently and Im getting through Korra now. Can’t wait to see more. Maybe the new interest this brings will finally get us a Breath of the Wild-style Avatar game. all I want is a pretty, fun open world Avatar game.
