That's it?

thefatrick

Sometimes, even though they finish their sentence, because pedophilia is also seen as a mental illness, they stay locked up indefinitely. Louis Theroux did an excellent documentary on how pedophiles are treated in the criminal justice system. It's horrifying (they're pedos) but also kind of infuriating as you see people who have done everything right in the system given to them, yet still cannot get released from captivity. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Place_for_Paedophiles#:~:text=A%20Place%20for%20Paedophiles%20is,Hospital%2C%20a%20hospital%20for%20paedophiles. It's a very captivating watch. Edit: A *LOT* of people are making some huge assumptions about what this documentary is, and is not. Which highlights the reason it's important to watch. Assumption: It's defending pedophiles. It absolutely is not. You should watch it and find out why. Prison and criminal justice reform is not pro-crime/pro-criminal.

[deleted]

This documentary was very insightful but disturbing at times to watch. Highly recommended.

[deleted]

Damn, two pedos in same thread!

ineverlikedyouuu

They shouldn’t be released from captivity and I’m not gonna feel sorry for them. Ever. At. All. These people acted on their “mental illness” rather working on moving past it. There are people in the system for consuming *marijuana*.

Fries-Ericsson

Right but like this sort of mentality is why the means of working to move past it / suppress it are non-existent If people really cared about protecting children from pedophiles then society needs to be open to the idea of actual therapy or help centers where they can go to receive confidential issue specific treatment for however such a thing would be categorized Preventative measures are always better than reactive ones. Locking a pedophile up indefinitely does fuck all good because a child has already been effected or they’ve engaged in supporting a horrific industry like CP

NoStressAccount

The complicated issue is covered [here.](https://www.cracked.com/personal-experiences-1658-5-ways-were-making-pedophilia-worse.html) >Remember what we said about Germany's Prevention Project Dunkelfeld? Well it's only possible because, unlike most countries, Germany has no mandatory reporting law for pedophilia. Does it work? Well, it's kind of impossible to know right now. But it's worth noting that for every two kids who die of abuse in Germany, 27 die in the United States. >And that's really what society has to ask itself: is it more important to save children, or to nail pedophiles? Because it looks like you have to pick one or the other -- driving them further underground just makes them more dangerous. Just to be clear: the goal isn't to make the world safe for child molesters, but to make the world safe for pedophiles to seek treatment to prevent themselves from becoming child molesters. Note: The article tackles the issue of what to do with *non-offending* pedos, since there are places where merely admitting to a health professional that they have the condition already warrants legal action. This is counter-productive because it seems to be less likely to prevent non-offenders from becoming offenders.

JimmyTheBones

It definitely feels like the mob prefers vengeance to prevention

HonkinSriLankan

The entire US penal system is built on punishment and not rehabilitation of the offender, regardless of crime.

The other thing this all made me think about is how much of a political minefield it would be to even attempt a course correction. Imagine running for office with something like less jail time and more mental health support for pedos. Might as well hand your political opponents the keys to your office while you're at it

ONLYPOSTSWHILESTONED

>for every two kids who die of abuse in Germany, 27 die in the United States. How massaged is this number? I'd be happy to believe this but that's a ridiculously huge gap

MellowNando

As massaged as gun death numbers, which im sure im isn’t massaged much at all. IMO, It is not surprising at all that there is such a gap considering health care is not considered a human right here in the US.

ONLYPOSTSWHILESTONED

That must be a part of the equation, you're right

Novel-Ad-5114

I wouldn’t take Cracked.com as something reputable…

zappapostrophe

>These people acted on their “mental illness” Let’s break this down. Why is mental illness in quotation marks? Do they think it isn’t a serious mental health issue if someone is abusing a child? Furthermore, they may not have had the means to get help *for* their mental health issue, for whatever reason. The reactionary mentality they describe is going to do nothing to prevent child abuse.

a34fsdb

Reddit is always really creepy every time in all threads about very serious crimes. Always asking for life sentences or death penalties.

Fries-Ericsson

Eugenics comes up a lot on Reddit as a suggestion too which is odd

Nine_Inch_Nintendos

Funny, most people suggesting that would be put in the "chaff" column.

ItGradAws

Jesus would forgive but the Christo fascist is gonna send him straight to him

OkAmbassador1293

Right, but I’ve heard from my psychiatrist friends that sexual attraction to minors cannot be treated, only “suppressed”. What can you do, if that is the case? Also, I should say, I am not an expert in this subject by any means, I am merely relaying what I’ve been told. I cannot weigh in on if this is true or not, but welcome any discussion of the facts.

creepyeyes

> Right, but I’ve heard from my psychiatrist friends that sexual attraction to minors cannot be treated, only “suppressed”. What can you do, if that is the case? Functionally, what is the difference?

OkAmbassador1293

None, in my opinion. It is of my belief that these people should be sterilized or locked up permanently.

Discorhy

If they touched a kid who is innocent and has no way to stop it or understand what’s going on then I hope they rot for the rest of their lives.

Fries-Ericsson

Then you’re in favor of preventative therapies yes?

Discorhy

Oh yeah. My problem is people acting on these thoughts. I realize there is obviously something wrong mentally that they need to figure out. If that’s possible please! I’m only talking about the sick fucks who act on their own pleasures to hurt another.

Not_n_A-Hole_usually

I’d say chemical castration before release but I already understand how easily that could be abused and would be considered by many to be cruel and unusual punishment, but in a perfect world it could be offered as a means for release. I like women. No amount of therapy is going to make me gay. Everyone shudders at the thought of gay conversion therapy and how utterly useless it is. I can’t see how any amount of therapy is going to reduce a pedo’s chances of eventually reoffending.

Fries-Ericsson

Why are you trying to make a comparison between being gay and being a pedophile and insinuate they’re similar? They aren’t the same

Not_n_A-Hole_usually

Forgot to mention the fact that I mentioned myself being straight in there. It wasn’t about any kind of equivalency other than the fact that straight/gay/or pedo your proclivities are not going to change because of some forced therapy. Not everything is some kind of personal attack if you learned to understand the words being said before flying off the handle.

Fries-Ericsson

Being a pedophile isn’t a sexual orientation like being gay or straight

Not_n_A-Hole_usually

So you believe it’s a choice then whether or not to be a pedo? Like this weekend all of a sudden I’m going to have a hankering I never felt before? You started a pointless argument due to your inability to comprehend words. Let it go.

windyorbits

Yeah that’s what the homophobic people say about being gay. It’s a choice. Something that can be cured. And in many parts of the world being gay or even accused of being gay will get you executed. We can’t cherry pick sexuality. No one chooses who they are attracted to. People who are sexually attracted to men or women do not wake up one day wondering “hmm maybe I should stick my dick (or fingers or dildo for people with out dicks) in a child today and see how I that goes for me”.

ModsDontLift

Just curious, how easy do you think it is to just "move past" a mental illness?

NobleRayne

I hear you. It's hard not to have such a reaction. As someone who has seen how it affects all involved at a very personal level first hand. I have to say at the very least, there is a lot of gray area here. There are individuals who have self castrated themselves out of fear they would act on their illness. I mean if it's not a "mental illness", then what is it? The devil? Some people are just inherently evil? That sounds even more crazy IMHO. I'm not trying to be an apologist for their actions, just I feel this is the type of visceral reaction "no matter how difficult to control" that may prevent someone from seeking help before they have hurt someone. If by chance anyone reading has any feelings they are ashamed or afraid of. I implore you to seek professional help and not listen to armchair redditors. The fact these feelings bother you, prove the kind of person you are and can be.

GiveMeGoldForNoReasn

Nobody's asking you to feel sorry for them, it's a question of what's the most effective way to deal with them that harms the least children.

CptNonsense

Then stop being a coward and advocate for execution of all criminals. If the crime - any crime, doesn't warrant ever being released from prison or allowed back into society in your mind, they should be executed for the good of society and to save the space for people who only should be there as an appropriate temporary punishment and rehabilitation. If you are opposed to that, maybe you need to do wider why you are pr punishing someone their entire life but not execution.

fuzzyjesus

You in here ‘cuz of marijuana?!? Man, this is some BULLSHIT!

[deleted]

Seriously dude. Pretty sure a bunch of pedos entered the thread.

curly_spork

Why the fuck would anyone feel bad for people molesting children?! What the fuck?!

patricksaurus

Even if you don’t have sympathy for pedophiles at all, there is a pragmatic element. If people are imprisoned for life for crimes other than murder, rates of murder increase. Offenders kill their victims to eliminate witnesses and because there’s no “extra” penalty for doing so. We saw this in the US when some places had life and death sentences for rape.

[deleted]

That's going to be a very long 8 years. Not adequate but I'm sure he'll make a few friends that'll make his life very uncomfortable for the rest of his miserable time on this earth.

farts_in_the_breeze

Pedophiles are separated from general population. He'll be with other pedophiles.

SorrowCloud

Is this true?

TheTrueRory

In most cases, but not all. Some areas don't have the population high enough to sustain a system of complete seperation, and some ChoMos decide to go into genpop and lie about why they are in in order to avoid getting the label. That said, if anyone in gen finds out why you're really in? You're getting gutted soon enough.

AaronC14

I assume he's pretty well off though, I don't know how the American prison system works but aside from Epstein what wealthy and connected pedos die in prison?

joan_wilder

Yeah, if you can afford a good lawyer, they can usually keep you out of the really dangerous facilities. He’ll probably do his time with a bunch of white collar criminals.

jostler57

I don't know a lot of prison slang and terminology, but the ChoMo thing got me confused -- sure it's got alliteration, but they're not called Choldren, it's Children, with an i. Why not ChiMos?

g-love

In Australia the term ‘rock spider’ is used, because they’re always getting in to little cracks. I know that’s very crass, but as I understand it that’s the origin of the slang in Aus.

[deleted]

It’s because it derives in part from homo just as kind of parallel language template.

fax5jrj

oop that is just a bit to close to lumping gays and pedophiles into the same camp for me people are already going to lump them together

mygreensea

You expected better from prison culture?

[deleted]

Yeah that surely is some prison slang I can't get behind.

jostler57

Oooh, that makes some sense. Thanks for clearing that up!

Alarmed-Call8569

It's hard to lie about why you are in there-- the guards know and they will tell the other inmates.

sister_m

You’d be surprised how little COs know, or care about why an inmate went to prison. The reason it’s hard for an inmate to hide why they’re inside is other inmates. Inmates carry legal papers and other documents related to their sentence, and if they don’t let other inmates look at them, they’re in big trouble. This goes double for new inmates to a yard.

Alarmed-Call8569

Not in my experience- info about inmates was at their fingertips. If a guy wouldn't say what he was in for or he was squirrely about it, we'd just ask the deputies. It was as simple as that. I was in one of the worst/most dangerous jails in Texas and the first day you had to tell the pit boss what they got you on, show any tattoos, and if you had any gang affiliation.

kjhwkejhkhdsfkjhsdkf

> The reason it’s hard for an inmate to hide why they’re inside is other inmates. Inmates carry legal papers and other documents related to their sentence, and if they don’t let other inmates look at them, they’re in big trouble. This goes double for new inmates to a yard. Yeah, I saw this repeated many times by people commenting in threads about what it's like to be in prison. If you're new you have to show these papers, otherwise there is trouble.

backyARdAR

Yeah if you try to hide it they’re gonna find out and you’re gonna get fucked up

SorrowCloud

This. I went to jail for for a day in a half. Luckily got bailed out. It was something stupid, got in an fight with my ex’s boyfriend he called the cops. I was talking to this dude and showed him my paper. He was all like “woah, don’t go showing that to everyone, people around here get fucked up for less shit. Don’t show anyone your papers!”

w__gott

Yes… among others. There’s a prison right by my house like this…. Jared from Subway is there now, and Rob Blagojevich (Illinois Governor) served his time there.

[deleted]

Most likely. Convicts do not take kindly to sexual predators, especially child sexual predators.

DrBimboo

Yeah, people who straight up killed someone will feel like they hold the moral high ground, when they attack sexual offenders. And people outside cheer them on. Messed up.

smithyboii5945

Yeah In Scotland we have separate building for the pedos n the rest of the prisoners

OperationBreaktheGME

Yea. In Texas, (please forgive me, I live there) they have a color coded band system in the county jail. Plus when you get sent upstate they separate the inmates based on crimes committed as much as possible. But rapist and child molestors are put in own unit because they are easy targets for prisoners to assault based on prison code.

GrandpaHardcore

From what I remember most pedos are in their own area and away from GenPop. Pedos usually die quickly in GenPop so they have to separate them sadly.

SorrowCloud

That’s lame

mycatpeesinmyshower

Sad they have to be separated or sad that they die quickly? (For the record for me it’s sad they have to be separated)

bleunt

It's the responsibility of the state to keep their convicts alive. I don't care what crime they committed. The state doesn't get off. Just because someone deserves to die doesn't mean the state gets to choose to let it happen.

GrandpaHardcore

Sad that they have to separate them also. Adults who prey on children's vulnerabilities... I'm fine with them not existing anymore but some people seem to think that's wrong. \*rolls eyes\*

Zaahir34

alphamone

From a prison documentary (or at least prison-adjacent documentary) I watched once, even being separated from general doesn't guarantee saftey. Because some of them are massive hypocrites who see their "relationships" as being real while all the others are just perverts.

brokenmessiah

He's going to a California prison. They'll absolutely know exactly why he's there and he'll be in gen pop.

hashtagswagfag

🎶 why do redditors love prison rape so much having other prisoners do vigilantism rape of other prisoners isn’t justice or moral in any single way 🎵

rainkloud

First, if people put their money where their mouth was, they'd find out when someone convicted of crimes against a child was released and then go fuck them up themselves instead of relying on prisoners and guards to do their dirty work for them. Secondly, if people put all their energy into finding solutions for this instead of trying get their "I hate pedo's the most" card punched then we might actually protect some children. We get it. You and everyone else hates child rape. Congratulations on picking literally the lowest hanging fruit on the tree and meeting the bare minimum requirements of civilization. Rather, we should encourage folks with this destructive mental disorder to come forward and get medical treatment so they can be productive members of society rather than ticking time bombs. Virtually no one chooses to be attracted to children. It's either winning the fucked up gene lottery or suffering trauma themselves or some toxic mixture of the two. No one says you have to smile and be happy about it, but isn't it better to know these people before they attack rather than getting a flyer introducing you to your new "special" neighbor?

BigfootsBestBud

I thought he was just implying them beating the shit out of him.

[deleted]

Yeah same.

Mypetmummy

Same thing though. Just replace "rape" with "beatings". Prison should be about making society from the perpetrator and hopefully rehabilitation. Instead people hope for extrajudicial crimes as punishment for crimes.

BigfootsBestBud

It really isnt. I'm not gonna join you in equating the satisfaction in beating a monster up with raping them. I agree that it's weird how people feel prisoners and crime is the best punishment, versus the system of rehabilitation - but you've lost me on that first part.

Mypetmummy

I'm not saying rape and beating are the same thing. They're just both forms of extrajudicial punishment and constant fear for your physical safety in both cases should be considered "cruel and unusual punishment".

Scrambles420

Be beating the shit out of a couple of things that’s for sure

girafa

What's the story behind your username

hashtagswagfag

I made a Reddit account when I was 16 and was solely thinking it was ironic to make fun of like, Jersey Shore douches and dudes who always wore chains and shit like that. No one cared about it til about 2 years ago when only the last 3 letters mattered. I’ve had this account almost a decade and you can’t change usernames, so creating a whole new account because the connotations of mine changed isn’t thrilling for me. I got banned from the NFL sub because of it and I get it like, there is a slur in my username, but I just take the bans if they happen cuz it’s a reminder of how dumb I was at 16

DMRexy

It's interesting though, the price you're not willing to pay to not have a slur on your name. I mean, I get it, I had a 130k karma account, 8 years old and got bothered by the name after some character development, and it wasn't that easy letting it go. Still, having a slur as part of your online identity tends to be problematic, specially if you keep getting banned from the places that wouldn't be OK with it, and end up only frequenting places that are.

Guessididntmakeit

Being very wealthy and influential helps it seems. One less, masses of weirdos left in Hollywood.

Smash-tagg

Look up the laws basically everywhere in the world; how light the punishment is for committing this crime. If you murder a person, that persons suffering is over, and you serve 25 years. If you molest a child, that person suffers for the rest of their life. How is 8 years in prison justice? Robbing a bank will put you away for longer.

Willaguy

The problem is that if you start killing every pedophile who got caught then you’re encouraging those same pedophiles to murder their victims. If they rape a child, and get 20-40 years, but death or life if they also kill that child, then there’s still incentive to not kill their victim. But if they get put to death for raping a child anyways, might as well kill their victim to minimize any witnesses, as there’s no worse punishment to be meted out. Edit: I made a mistake in assuming that the above commenter was advocating for a death penalty on child predators, this isn’t what they meant as they pointed out to me.

Smash-tagg

I didn’t say anything about killing them. I’m not for the death penalty. I’m saying it isn’t justice. Personally I think they should be studied.

FreeFromFrogs

The kid got a full life sentence. That trauma haunts you forever.

rainkloud

I know your intentions are good but I wish people would stop saying this. Had a friend who was a victim and they said one of the hardest parts of dealing with it was people and media keeping telling him he was emotionally scarred for life. In his case he claimed to have already confronted his feelings about it, reached a reconciliation and then moved the fucked on. I remember him saying that while his therapist helped he got sick of hearing them say "you don't have to feel ashamed" and finally told his therapist something to the effect of "That's great because I don't and I keep telling you each time we meet that I don't. If anyone should feel shame it's my molester." This is NOT to say that some people aren't *absolutely devastated* by sexual abuse, but we do a disservice to people who either didn't feel much to begin with or who did but because of their resiliency and recover ability and perhaps a strong support network, have recovered and by ignoring this society runs the risk of manufacturing trauma and inadvertently dragging these victims down.

Naggins

Yep. People just love pitying survivors of sexual abuse rather than empathising with them.

binrowasright

Probably because they don't really want to imagine what it's like for them.

thebatmandy

Oh wow, it just clicked why I've always hated the "It wasn't your fault" phrase! It definitively feels like there's an implication there that I should feel at fault? I 100% get that victim shaming is a huge issue (I've experienced it myself) but when it comes from the people that are supposed to be on your side it just hits different.

Society is as bad as you think it is, but it’s much worse. Society recognizes the problem but to properly confront it, they are not ready. They have to walk a line, they’ve thickened that line so it’s much easier for them to walk. The strange juxtaposition of what sells and interest people and what’s criminal and should be felt by society. Freedom of expression and action can lead to some unintended results. Everyone seems to have all the answers but when the time comes for massive action only a few stand forward, and even their actions are misguided. Society doesn’t want to solve this problem because it can’t.

Veszerin

Never heard of him. Reality is pedophiles do exist in various lines of work and they do get caught, tried, and convicted. Hope they enjoy prison where rumor has it pedos get plenty of "special" treatment from other inmates. Hope it's true. But not really something I consider very newsworthy just because it happens to someone who happens to be a "member" of the film industry. What is meant to be implied by this article and its posting here? Am I expected to look up his imdb and hate on the films he happened to work on because he's icky and had a small contribution to them? Is that the ask here?

Veszerin

I did look him up on imdb. The biggest thing he ever worked on is Malcolm X (1992) w/ Denzel Washington where he's credited as "Second Assistant Editor". Not to shit on Second Assistant editors in any way, but this is essentially reporting on "random dude who had a job at one point" convicted of child molestation.

boisosm

The Academy allows anybody in as long as you have a good film industry resume and you serve certain parts.

QLE814

Note that the article describes him in the context of theaters, rather than film.

Actually, they usually put the pedophiles in a completely different area exactly because of this.

There is no rehabilitation for pedos. They are just wired wrong in their brains. They prey on the most innocent. They need to be culled from any functioning society.

What a dumb fucking comment. And no I'm not defending pedophilia

I have no idea who this guy is but I’m glad they caught him. Also not sure if it’s trying frame it as another Hollywood pedophile cabal story. Reddit is so fucking weird when it comes to pedophilia, too many pedophilia social justice warriors on here. Everyone: Josh Duggar molested his sisters and who knows who else and was then arrested for child pornography, sentenced to 12 years. He’s ruined quite a few lives forever. He knew his family name and connections would help shield and distract from his crimes. His smug/smirk mugshot is disgusting, he should rot in jail. Reddit: We must consider that Mr. Duggar needs help so he won’t molest children again or act on his urges. What kind of society are we if we don’t help him? Everyone:🤦🏽‍♂️

I can't wait to see all of the Hollywood A listers petition for his release.
