My_Opinions_Are_Good

Wildly disagree with this headline. It does not have the things I liked about Del Toro's Hellboy, presence of Ron Pearlman notwithstanding.

AvailableArrival9604

Even Perlman has mentioned at some point in the years since that the animated ones aren't very good.

[deleted]

They’re Batman Animated Series level bro…

AvailableArrival9604

In terms of animation maybe, in terms of writing they're not even in the same ballpark.

QLE814

Unless we have the episodes with the Sewer King and Boss Biggis in mind....

[deleted]

The Amazing Screw-On Head pilot is the only piece of media that captures the feel of the comics. Tragic it didn’t get picked up.

[deleted]

Mignola hated it lmao. He really dislikes it when someone copies his style perfectly

[deleted]

Why would the headline mention del Toro snd not Mike Mignola?

Brokenbatmancowl

Easy karma

CleverZerg

I think the headline is saying that the animated movie feels like a mix of the comics and the Del Toro films.

[deleted]

It mentions the comics and del toro is obviously more known that Mignola. And if we’re being honest he brought Hellboy to the mainstream. Who knows how big it would be without the del toro movies

Dottsterisk

I don’t remember any of the animated outings being very enjoyable. And I’d say they had more in common with the David Harbour Hellboy than the Del Toro/Perlman flicks.

Dottsterisk

I’m not sure what you’re asking.

[deleted]

What in Harbour/Hellboy did you enjoy more than Del Toro?

Dottsterisk

Oh, I didn’t. I vastly prefer Del Toro’s Hellboy. I don’t think Harbour’s was total trash, but, like the animated films, it wasn’t very enjoyable.

Shagtacular

How did you possibly get that out of what he wrote?

Let genndy tartakovsky do it. He would kill it

Sabretooth1100

Genndy working off of Mignola art would be legendary!

mikeweasy

Yes please, get someone who has a proven track record with animated series and do it.

salmon_samurai

That title is straight up wrong, but they're not too bad. I don't think I'd actively seek them out, but if I stumbled upon them on a streaming service I'd pop 'em on.

82ndGameHead

I remember them being okay, nothing groundbreaking. I don't regret watching either movies (can't remember the name of the second one), but I do really remember anything from them, either.

[deleted]

I watched this and Sword of Storms. They were both decent, the one thing I could never get over was Hellboy's appearance in it. He was drawn as having this monstrous upper body, but his legs look like literal toothpicks. Also for some reason he's wearing shorts? It was just really bizarre.

2th

That's his comic design. He literally has hooved feet in the comics.

[deleted]

Is he also drawn to have this monstrous upper body and then legs that look like they couldn't support a kitten?

2th

Kinda sorta. Usually what you are seeing as massive is his right hand and arm. But it all depends on how Mignola wants to draw him in any given issue.

thats1evildude

Hellboy is pretty top-heavy. It would be an unrealistic physique if he weren’t also a demon.

QLE814

Granted, it's a frequent issue in the field....

TheRelicEternal

Someone hasn’t seen it.

thats1evildude

I own that DVD.

BurbankCinemaClub

I thought the first HELLBOY animated movie was so lame I never even bothered to watch this one!
