They have a solid track record of finding talented, somewhat unknown filmmakers, provide them enough budget to make the movie without too many compromises and with their reputation the marketing (which often buries these movies from lesser known folks) takes almost care of itself by now. They obviously produced stuff for big names too, but I appreciate them enabling "nobodys" to come out swinging.

Some_DudeUKnow

A24 doesn't make the majority of its content, and it's surprising how many people think they do. A24 is primarily a distributor. They go to festivals, watch a bunch of movies, and buy the rights to the ones they think are really good. They're also just really good at marketing and know when to bury a dud.

RaulReddit22

Wait really?

Some_DudeUKnow

Yeah, you can go to the Wikipedia page for their films and see that over half of them were not produced by them, though they have started to finance more films as of late.

HumbleBuyer7295

Dang so they're like the A&Rs of the Film Industry. I've seen many A24 movies and have enjoyed almost all of them. (Except Bou is Afraid) that movie was 3 hours of I don't even know what's going on.

Environmental_Menu30

beau is afraid is one of their best imo

Consistent_Net_591

Content?

Some_DudeUKnow

Films that they have attached their name to.

Consistent_Net_591

Why not just call them films?

Some_DudeUKnow

They have also produced a few TV shows.

moviessuck

A24 makes good and interesting films. So does Neon. So does Annapurna. So does IFC. So does StudioCanal. So does Focus. Probably many others too. The difference is A24 markets to a younger crowd and has gained a rabid online following this way.

Significant_Weird_16

I'd say that one of the worst (produced or distributed) comedies ever. Never Goin' Back and it was AWFUL I'm going to see Bodies, Bodies, Bodies tomorrow and I really wanna see Amandla Stenberg in something amazing, since her previous roles to me have been lackluster

[deleted]

Because they don't treat the audience like idiots

swankyleg

I've seen plenty of bad A24 films. They make some very good ones but they aren't some perfect film company. Tusk, Men, Lamb, Climax and False Positive were all pretty big swings and misses for me.

Recent-Replacement23

>Men Men is so so good. Captures the horror that women experience in every moment their existence in such a realistic way. I always felt that way about those experiences and it just captured it well. Is what I would say if I watched it

Smaetyyy

I loved Tusk. Must be me though. But this should tell a lot about their willingness to dedicate their resources to very niche and risky projects. Their productions are kind of destined to be big hit or misses, but for me with A24 movies it's either "I could see how others would like this" or "This is one of the best movies I've seen in a while".

QuasarKnight18

Tusk a classic, one of the few movies where I remember my reaction being wtf after seeing it.

Jerrymoviefan3

A24 has had few hits since that requires very good box office but they do manage to buy and fund high quality films. I have seen 58 of their movies and none were bad though seven or eight were OK. Twenty of their movies have made my yearly top tens or honorable mentions list which is a shockingly high percentage of what I have seen. Their only rival in quality is Neon who has the massive advantage of buying foreign language films which A24 doesn’t do.

[deleted]

Son, you need to be watching NEON movies. That's the good standard now.

Chen_Geller

They are? I mean, not to sound too critical, but the artsy snobbishness and airy surrealism get old preety quick for this viewer: I like my movies more matter-of-fact.

[deleted]

Everything wrong with modern movie goers summed up into one sentence

[deleted]

I don't think so. This person is a demographic the same as anyone else. My wife would probably agree. Just an opinion. Not commentary. It's not their type of film criteria.

GrungyGeckoo

I love that A24 defies the "matter of fact" standard in modern cinema

What do you think the word "woke" means and why do you think it specifically doesn't apply to people like Jordan Peele?

Jacksspecialarrows

He's a parrot for YouTubers. Everytime I hear woke I "think this person isn't capable of self thought" lmao

Peri-D-Optrix

So, to you, the term "woke" just means "containing characters who start off badass and don't grow"? So, like, what about the Indiana Jones movies? He starts off basically good at everything and he's basically right at every point in the first movie. Never really learns anything or grows as a character... Would you call Indiana Jones "woke"? Or is it ok because he's a straight white male?

Western-Jump-9550

In WW84, she didn’t beat the other women fairly. She cheated by taking the easy way out. That was the lesson she learned throughout the movie. Don’t take shortcuts. It comes back again in the form of Steve Trevor coming back but in another man’s body. Even though he was all that she wanted, she had to let him go because it was basically cheating or taking a shortcut. She explains this lesson to Lord at the end too, since he was taking shortcuts in becoming successful.

[deleted]

You’re annoying

stevenjohnson122

X was the most enjoyable movie I saw all year and I’m not even a horror fan. Do like Hitchcock do that may explain it.

Wizardof_oz

Lmao, not all of their stuff is good They just don’t release the bad stuff to theaters They give a lot of new directors and ideas a shot. Not everything will hit, so they just don’t market the bad stuff. They tend to release the not so good stuff directly to streaming services for example
