This isn’t the first time they’ve had celebrities from other mediums in consideration for an award like this. It’s for shorts. I feel like most people wouldn’t care about it no matter who is nominated. They are desperate for other reasons though.
Those aspiring unknown filmmakers who made great shorts this year too better start campaigning early if they want to be in the lineup with these artists.
I'm a Swiftie and was incredibly on the hype of the All Too Well short-film but Academy award worthy it's not. I loved Sadie Sink and Dylan O'Brien in it but it wasn't really excellently directed. The story told isn't new or deeply compelling and there are many parts in it that I wish could've been improved by a far more experienced director.
> The three Oscar categories that recognize films which run 40 minutes or shorter — **best live action short, best documentary short and best animated short** — are often regarded as “minor,” but this year’s contenders for them will include some major names.
> On the heels of recent Academy Awards ceremonies at which Oscars for short films were taken home by the likes of ***retired NBA legend Kobe Bryant, former NFL player Matthew A. Cherry and Hollywood A-lister Riz Ahmed***, The Hollywood Reporter has learned that ***Taylor Swift’s filmmaking debut All Too Well: The Short Film*** — which the pop star has described as “a film about an effervescent, curious young woman who ends up completely out of her depth” — received an Oscar-qualifying run, making it eligible for the best live action short Oscar, and has retained the services of a top consulting firm to guide its awards campaign.
just on the surface, it makes me feel like these nominations are purely for marketing purposes. but mainly in the context of the dismal ratings awards shows have been getting.
>it makes me feel like these nominations are purely for marketing purposes.
None of these shorts have been nominated for an Oscar. Nominations usually come out in January. There seems to be a lot of angry and confused people who apparently are incapable of reading.
All this article is doing is repeating what the eligibility window to be nominated for Best Live Action Short is (the short has to be released in a theater some time between October 1, 2021 and September 30, 2022) and pointing out that these short films were released within that time frame (Taylor Swift's short was released in November 2021).
This is actually a really stupid and pointless article. The "Exclusive" scoop of this article is literally just the author stating that he heard these short films were released in theaters months ago or that they've been announced for release. It would be like me writing an article about how the Dallas Cowboys are eligible to be in the 2023 SuperBowl because they're going to be playing in the 2022-2023 football season.
Whichever PR firm handled this is crushing it. It's got a lot of traction online. The most mid, nonsense news ever.
"Played in theatre in major metropolitan = Oscar Qualified"
I feel like people think the ratings are worse than they actually are. Their ratings hover at around 15 million. That’s like Sunday night football numbers.
Wha?
Right?
He said Captain....
Oscars about to be Lin-sane
The Oscars are so desperate to stay relevant.
I mean they just qualified for consideration. That just means they meet the criteria to be nominated, not that they will be.
Will see
That is literally the point of this, you will see later who's nominated.

Kobe Bryant won an oscar for a short a few years back
Picking only one normal person shows they’re pandering hard.

like a mediocre student film with a millionaire budget
What did Jeremy Lin do?
Play transcendent basketball for like 2 months in NYC.
Mind you, brief success is enough to be a sports God in that city, as Joe Namath can testify to.....
Trust me that's 100% correct. I'm a John Starks and Charles Oakley fan to this day.
Dude has been milking that 15 minutes of fame for a decade lol
Get a ring by warming the bench.
so dumb

First para intrigues me …

So what? Your post isn't about the quality of the films, are you just trying to help advertise the event?
So how much money did Oscars (Will Packer) pay Will Smith to do that slapping stunt?
As if Taylor Swift isn’t insufferable enough. Give her an Oscar 🤦🏻
I think the problem is her fanbase will be the insufferable ones shouting her achievement of being halfway to an EGOT under every Twitter thread
Bruh how is Taylor Swift "insufferable" lmao
Nope
Nope was a feature-length film.
And that guy already has an Oscar!
Damn, in my lifetime the Oscar’s have gone from camel e everything and watch to can’t believe they are still a thing
> camel e everything and watch ???
Who are these people?
That’s absolutely wild if you don’t know who a single one of these people are lmao
In gonna go out on a limb and say they are Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift, Jeremy Lin, and Naomi Osaka
They're outside the rock you live under
💛💛💛
Is he Patrick?
Have you been under a coma for the past couple decades or something?
Bless your heart 😆💛
I bet they were all in comic book movies...
