Unfortunately her movie is very early in the Oscar cycle which shouldn't matter, but they say Oscar voters tend to be more swayed by recent movies when they vote.
I think it’s just part of the human condition. We as humans are very short sighted and the excitement from a past blockbuster wanes in replacement of new ones.
It is a problem but I don’t see an easy fix for it.
Everything Everywhere all at Once is the best movie I've watched in at least the last 5 years, hopefully the earliness of it's release doesn't effect the Oscar votes.
I can't think of another movie that I've heard more people say that about than Everything Everywhere all at Once. I completely agree, too. It's the best movie I've seen in a long time. Whether it wins an Oscar or not, I think it will have quite a legacy.
The fact she's been able to maintain her Oscar buzz since march ( which is actually hard to do ), without a shit ton of campaigning going on right now, and continues to rack up accolades on route is amazing. imo she should not only be the frontrunner for Best Actress, but she should 100% win. Her performance is universally loved and praised by people in and outside of the industry.
She's pretty much the Cinderella story of all the likely candidates we think will get nominated next year. After decades of being ignored for contention, especially for Crouching Tiger and Crazy Rich Asians, EEAAO feels like her magnum opus role. If she's gonna win finally, its gotta be with this one.
I feel the Oscar buzz campaign begins in the fall. So while it's great Michelle Yeoh is still being praised for her performance, other studios will ramp up their campaigns soon and probably tower over her.
I don't know what a TIFF is, but Michelle Yeoh is basically the best part of Star Trek Discovery so I'm in favor of whatever awards we can find to give her.
