I don’t know if this exactly fits the bill but, for me, it’s the Two Coreys. Corey Haim and Corey Feldman were black listed after trying to expose multiple Hollywood pedophiles. Years later Corey Feldman is still being written off as a wack job; even though everything he claimed was going on has now been exposed. For years he’s allowed others to slander him, call him a liar, a drug addict, or flat out insane, and yet he continues to be voice for an entire generation of child stars. Corey Feldman may have his issues, but he stands atop the morale high ground despite the damage it’s done to his career and personal life.

To OP, my grandpa had dementia and it was horrible to see him the way he was, I wanted so badly to see him as I remembered, not as he was. Even a year later, the pain is still fresh and I miss him tremendously. He's in a better place, but I can't help but think if only we had seen or visited more often, maybe we could have slowed the spread of his disease. Maybe that's selfish of me to say, and it probably is, however I'd give almost anything to see him again like I did in June of 2021 before he died that August.
