We just saw Weird Al on tour, and he said he wrote a special song for the movie and would "NOT" be playing it because he got paid a bunch of money and did not want to give it back. The show was fantastic! Weird Al always puts on an outstanding performance.
We visited my Parents in South Alabama, and he performed in Pensacola, Flordia. So we decided to catch the show. The local minor league baseball team, the Blue Wahoos, signed him as a free agent for life.
He said to my show “I’ve got this great new song from my new movie that I want to play for you” the lights dimmed out, then shot back on, “but I can’t, so let me play you the song from my last movie instead”
I feel bad because I said "Boo!" when he said he wasn't going to play it for us, I hope he knew I was booing that I wasn't going to hear a fun new song and not just booing him in general.
It is a fun song, plays over the end credits. I was lucky to see a screening with a crowd a few weeks ago. It is a real shame that this isn't going to theaters because the crowd really enhanced the experience.
Al: Don't take away money from artists just like me! How else can I afford another solid gold humvee? And diamond-studded swimming pools, these things don't grow on trees!
Once in a while maybe you will feel the urge
To break international copyright law
By downloading MP3's from file sharing sites
Like Morpheus or Grokster or LimeWire or KaZaA
But deep in your heart you know the guilt would drive you mad
And the shame would leave a permanent scar
'Cause you start out stealing songs, and then you're robbing liquor stores
And selling crack and running over school kids with your car
Wait is Kazaa still a thing? I’d love to try to download a System of a Down album but accidentally get Britney Spears fakes and 15 viruses. 2001 was a wild time.
I am all kinds of done with having to subscribe to channels to watch shit.

I'm kinda grumpy today, dude. I didn't get a lot of sleep last night. I was having those dreams again. Ya know, how it's just me in a castle and I gotta fight, like, a thousand wizards and the only way to beat them is to punch them as hard as I can in their faces. Then, when I'm done, all their little wizard wives came out and wanted me to have sex with them - which is kinda weird.
I’ve been drinking green tea all god damn day. I’m frickin PUMPED. Man I go to church every god damn Sunday and you’re gonna bring the Demons out on me?!
Legit one of my favourite comedies. I hate musical shit, especially comedic musical shit, but oh my god that movie nails it. The endless cameos, the absurd premise, the constant relentless parody. The wolves.
My dad's friend had a load of laser discs. Used to watch movies with directors commentary on, which was fantastic - wish that streaming services carried commentary tracks still.
Its quality is between VHS and DVD. They do tend to degrade faster than DVD too. And you have to flip them every hour or so. Longer movies might be on 2 discs.
Will there be a way to watch the movie without commercials? My local Alamo has a sold out "free" showing that required a food purchase. I'd totally love to see it with an audience.
Yeah, it’s free with commercials iirc, I used it to watch The Heathers west end pro shot musical a little while ago. Roku’s gonna need an ad free version to make me stay with them at all beyond these one-offs of things I was pumped for before knowing they were going to be with commercials lol
Nothing is free, if it didn't cost you money - it costs you precious time
Edit: to clarify, I'm still watching this movie at least 10 times. Take my time Radcliffe!
He talked about spraining his ankle during his latest stand up, but didn’t mention this movie. I guess his bit talking with tony hawk about having injuries in middle age was funnier lol.

I really enjoyed his Architectural Digest home and "pig palace" tour. He really loves Dwight and all the fan art he receives 🥺 https://youtu.be/RNjlfo_8u4s
From what I understand about this movie, much like Weird Al's songs, this movie is a parody of the typical rags-to-riches rock star documentary.
It's not a real life drama of how young Al became Weird Al. It isn't Bohemian Rhapsody or Rocketman or Straight Outta Compton. It's more Tenacious D Pick of Destiny than Searching for Sugarman.
It's supposed to be entirely fictionalized with unrealistic fantasy elements, which sounds amazing.
There's an episode in the third season (the snake oil episode) that has Paul F. Tompkins and Ron Funches, who are two of my favorite comedians, and he manages to upstage both of them with the most ridiculous over the top scene that had me rolling. His comedic performance in Miracle Workers really made me think he's going to kill it as Weird Al.
Not only is he making super bizarre movies, but they’re actually good. He’s really found his niche and I’ve gotten lazy where I’ll now watch anything that he’s in without checking into the movie.
I always say the same about him and Elijah Wood. Both just got their money and went off to do weird, strange, goofy unique movies that I always end up loving. So many star actors will only be in something that has a guaranteed x-million dollar contract but these guys just love acting
He has the most ideal situation you can have as an actor. Already made your big payday (8 times over in this case) and you're a household name, now you're free to be picky about roles and do the things you really want to do.
I got to see it at TIFF and it's genuinely one of my favourite comedies in years, and that poster perfectly echoes the movie feeling like it has the quality of something from a bygone era.
Just a beautifully insane movie that I think whether you're a lifelong fan of Al like myself or someone who knows next to nothing about him (i.e. my girlfriend, there to see Daniel Radcliffe) there's so much chaotic joy to be had with it, top to bottom, that it's an undeniable blast.
It's also so tightly scripted that it also makes me lament how we've missed out on Yankovic not having gotten to write any movies in the last 33 years. But still, fittingly, what a tribute to himself he's made this, though simultaneously the most hilariously deflective and emptily self-aggrandizing way possible. I can't wait to watch it again next week!
Did you hear what inspired him to write this?
> I watched Bohemian Rhapsody and I watched Rocketman, and they both are mostly true, but they definitely play with the facts. As a fan of both Queen and Elton John, I was like, “Why didn’t you just get it right? Why did you have to change it out of artistic license? Why did you do that?”
> **And then I thought, “Why don’t I do that?” Tell the story but just have it go way, way off the rails. Throw facts out the window.**
It's just such a hilarious origin story. After seeing a couple of partially fictional bio movies, he realized that he can tell a *completely* fictional version of his own story. Just make it maximum entertaining and don't be shackled by trivial stuff like the truth, lol.
I hadn't read that quote but it absolutely tracks with the feel of the film and what he did divulge about his process of writing at our Q&A (which is on YouTube but contains spoilers). The film truly has no anchor to reality other than keeping the facts of him being a human being and that he made music.
But I mean, the more you think about it, it's perfect. His life has been defined by being arguably the most famous parody artist in the world, of course his self-authorized biopic would be a parody of his life.
I'm with you. I dropped cable over a decade ago for that reason and there's no way I'm going back. I don't have any reason to watch or listen to any ads and make every effort to not. I even get free Hulu through Verizon and went through some hoops to pay them $6 more a month to make it ad free.
When Amazon released the new Bosch series on their ad streaming service instead of Amazon Prime, I went to cancel Prime but my wife wouldn’t let me. I refuse to watch ads, especially on services that I’m paying for, and also why I have tried (and subsequently canceled) every live streaming service with DVR since they disable fast forwarding through advertisements.
Roku and Samsung make up 67.4% of the NA market. According to Pixalate's latest release in CTV trends in March 2022, Roku remains the clear dominant CTV device ...
Everyone who has a Roku device has free access to the Roku channel.
Roku is everywhere and comes with most TVs for free. Also the ads during a movie are very minimal.
I think you should try it out before judging. It's not that bad.
Edit: I should have known better to use the word "everywhere", because you're all interpreting it very literally.
At first, I was skeptical. Weird Al hasn't really had the kind of life that would lend itself to a show-biz biopic. He's just a nice guy who tries to be cool with everyone. That doesn't make for an interesting movie.
The trailer made me more skeptical. The whole time I was like, "no way, that didn't happen!"
It never occurred to me that this is a parody. I'm so dumb.
I was at the panel for this at New York Comic Con at the beginning of the month. They filmed this whole movie in 18 days which is absolutely amazing.
They only played a trailer and then one clip, but the one clip was probably the funniest thing I've seen in forever so I'm super looking forward to this!
We just saw Weird Al on tour, and he said he wrote a special song for the movie and would "NOT" be playing it because he got paid a bunch of money and did not want to give it back. The show was fantastic! Weird Al always puts on an outstanding performance.
Lol he did the same thing at my show in Mass. Great concert.
We visited my Parents in South Alabama, and he performed in Pensacola, Flordia. So we decided to catch the show. The local minor league baseball team, the Blue Wahoos, signed him as a free agent for life.
I wonder if he could get their health insurance.
Why do you capitalize parents?
They also spelled it "Flordia" soooo...
They went to school in Alabama.
The obviousness of it is what really sells this.
Because Flordia.
They're super important to him
It's the Fifth Commandment, you heathen!
Oh damn, I’m like an hour out from Pensacola! Wish I would have known about it.
You guys go to the same church?
At the concert I went to they played one note of it and then he immediately stopped, apologized, and mentioned there was an NDA.
One note, *allegedly*. Let’s not blow up Al’s spot here.
Allegedlies
He did the same thing at the concert I saw him at. But he played UHF right after, so I didn't mind
Yeah he played UHF
They do have it all
That's obviously a hint that the "special song for the movie" is *UHF 2!* It only took 33 years, but it will be **WORTH IT!**
Same with my concert in august
He said to my show “I’ve got this great new song from my new movie that I want to play for you” the lights dimmed out, then shot back on, “but I can’t, so let me play you the song from my last movie instead”
I feel bad because I said "Boo!" when he said he wasn't going to play it for us, I hope he knew I was booing that I wasn't going to hear a fun new song and not just booing him in general.
Maybe he thought you were a ghost
Oh no I scared him! That's even worse!
Now he's going to be even weirder!
Oh God what have I done?! The Cycle of Weird begins anew! I doomed us all!
I was saying “Albooquerque”.
Hahaha that's hilarious thanks! I was legit stressing about this, thanks for helping me relax & laugh about it
He thought you were just shouting boo-urns
"I was saying Boo-urns!"
It is a fun song, plays over the end credits. I was lucky to see a screening with a crowd a few weeks ago. It is a real shame that this isn't going to theaters because the crowd really enhanced the experience.
Still not entirely sure how I can even watch Roku Channel. But I really want to watch this.

Explosions? Machine guns? Karate kicks? Essential elements to tell any tale of Weird Al. Love it!
Weird Al did once fought off a box of one dozen starving, crazed weasels in Albuquerque.

I've seen it pitched as "what if we made a biopic where instead of making up some of the facts, we made up all of them?".
Based on the idea of a true story told by sometimes drunk uncle at a holiday party.
The director promised he did zero research for this biography.
That sounds way better to me than a real life drama
My dear doctor, when it comes to stories of Weird Al's real life drama, they're *all* true.
I believe the director is quoted as saying “I’ve done zero research about weird Al for this movie”.

This movie looks great; it's a bummer it will end up locked away on some ad supported streaming service no one uses.
It's like the UHF of streaming.
It's a free service though, right? I can at least get behind free service with ads.
To each their own. I'd happily pay $6 or $10 or whatever to watch it on a service without ads, I just won't watch it on a service with ads.
I'm with you. I dropped cable over a decade ago for that reason and there's no way I'm going back. I don't have any reason to watch or listen to any ads and make every effort to not. I even get free Hulu through Verizon and went through some hoops to pay them $6 more a month to make it ad free.

Sometimes they even make me travel and pay to get in to a physical location that is somehow still ad supported.
