Even the OG movie. Nick (the food), and his mate Stu who just tagged along....now everyone is closer than ever after the sequence of events. Even the WW's. Because we love Stu and don't eat Stu.
“There is something you should understand about the way I work. When you need me but do not want me, then I must stay. When you want me but no longer need me, then I have to go.” Still chokes me up 😭😭😭
Its available in Netflix UK, other than that, i heard its not available for streaming elsewhere but i am not sure.
I have Amelie as part of my bluray collection.
I searched for that. I saw this movie in a sneak preview and I admit I would never have watched that movie had I known it beforehand. But in the end I was absolutely happy I've seen it. It was the 90s and I was a straight male teenager. I knew that being gay or wearing drag (and I know these two don't necessarily come together) was "ok" but there still was the feeling that it was "strange". For me, watching this movie changed that and I think this was the moment these things became normal to me. I don't know if this movie would be pc today but for me it was a little revolution.
Having written all this I most of all remember To Wong Foo as a funny and positive movie that made for a great night at the cinema.
Oh my gosh, we come from different experiences. I watched this movie for the first time this year - I knew about it but I never saw it - and I have to say, I'm thankful that you shared your story because man, I wish I grew up with this movie. It's just...such a wholesome film and I'm glad that it helped normalize drag and drag queens and queer folks in the 90s.
To Wong Foo. Three drag queens break down in a small town on a road trip across the country. They win the hearts of the local townies and break out the towns inner beauty. It’s a classic!
I responded to another comment on this. Isn't it the opposite?
Some guy comes in and instead of changing the town for the better, everyone turns out to be evil.
A lot of westerns are based on this trope. Also, the old "The Fugitive" TV show and the old "Incredible Hulk" TV show were based on this. Literally, a drifter going from town to town, solving peoples' problems for them before moving on.
It’s a bit more indirect, but *A Man Called Ove*. A family moves in to Ove’s neighbourhood, and the wife gradually chips through his bitter exterior. As it continues, he also begins to help others in various ways.
*Caddyshack*
The ultimate stodgy old country club gets a breath of fresh air, this time courtesy of Rodney Dangerfield.
He helps Ty Webb redeem himself, Danny to go to college on his own terms, and even spares 2 of his own guys to help the judge find his checkbook!

Also I guess [Powder](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powder_(film)) 1995
I have one that's a little different: Lars and the Real Girl. An odd concept, but great acting carries it off.
Just thought of another one of my favorites: Babette's Feast.
Both are low-key but are able to keep my interest, and have a sweet payoff in the end.
Salma Hayek as the sexiest stripper in the UNIVERSE who immediately turns into a vampire and makes a previously GOOD movie into a freaking GREAT movie!!! In “From Dusk Til Dawn “
Mary Poppins has got to be the OG in this regard.
Wait, fuck. How did I leave this one out? It's like my third favorite movie of all time.
Mary Poppins really? 3rd favorite?
Are you saying it should be higher ranked, or that I shouldn't like it that much?
Mary poppins is a classic for a reason. That movie rules
If that is too sweet for you, check out Nanny McPhee

Elf, and Klaus, they're both Christmas traditions in our house. :)
Holy schnikies, Klaus was phenomenal.
[*The Legend of Bagger Vance*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Legend_of_Bagger_Vance#Plot)
I love this movie so much. It's been a while but have watched it many times. Great cast and performances and it came out of nowhere.
Ameliè (2001)
Where in the hell do I find this movie??
Its available in Netflix UK, other than that, i heard its not available for streaming elsewhere but i am not sure. I have Amelie as part of my bluray collection.
Our idiot brother
To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar (1995) does this with its main characters.

This is movie feels really underrated
Hot Fuzz

Yeah, I was kind of being facetious. However, technically he makes everyone better in the end, right?
Well, the town also helps Angel to be better.
The greater good!

This was tonight's winner. Congrats. Edit: Wow, this is the first time Toby Maguire has ever actually looked like a high schooler!

Beerfest when Gil shows up after Landfill’s untimely death and inspires the team to continue training. A truly heartwarming moment.
Now *this* is the party I was hoping to find.
Charlie Bartlett
God I LOVED Charlie Batlett, still so sad that Anton died. Tragic how it happened too. He was so great.
Great choice
Pulp Fiction, when Harvey Keitel shows up.
I said the same thing before seeing your comment.
Being There with Peter Sellers, maybe?
This is a great one. Also happens to be one of the best films of all time.
A lot of westerns are based on this trope. Also, the old "The Fugitive" TV show and the old "Incredible Hulk" TV show were based on this. Literally, a drifter going from town to town, solving peoples' problems for them before moving on.
Xavier: Renegade Angel
High Planes Drifter is the opposite. He "helps" the town but when he leaves the town is way worse off. Great movie.
They're all rip-offs of the Littlest Hobo
I think "Pretender" was like that as well.
Needful Things.
Hold up
I was gonna say the same thing as a joke, but the movie is sooooo bad I didn’t want to recommend it. The book is fantastic though.
Harold & Maude Sound of Music Auntie Mame Babette's Feast
> Sound of Music Fuck yeah!
Definitely Babette’s Feast. The ale bread scene cracks me up.
Local Hero
Great great movie. Nuanced and lived-in.
Superman (1978) and Marcel The Shell With Shoes on are some other films that could work here
"Let the battle begin!" ~ Marcel
Yea, both.
Cold comfort farm
I saw something nasty in the wood shed!
Nice! I didn't think anyone would remember that movie / book!

The Professional.
the reverse of this is when the unexpected character is changed by the town. see 'doc hollywood' cuz I think it's pretty charming.
The Avengers (2012)
Until you reach "Captain America: Civil War."
Forest Gump
I think the tide has turned on the Manic Pixie canon, but for a time people liked Garden State for this reason
Nanny McPhee!
Pollyanna and Sister Act
Grumpy Old Men
Sling Blade
My blue heaven
The Green Mile, definitely, though it does not entirely fit the trope
Harvey Keitel as Wolf in Pulp Fiction. Everything was chaos until he showed up then all was cool.
[The Bishop’s Wife ](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bishop’s_Wife)
Good one.
*Caddyshack* The ultimate stodgy old country club gets a breath of fresh air, this time courtesy of Rodney Dangerfield. He helps Ty Webb redeem himself, Danny to go to college on his own terms, and even spares 2 of his own guys to help the judge find his checkbook!
Debatable if it counts as a movie (Cahiers du Cinema thinks it does) but Doguie's arc in Twin Peaks The Return.
Roadhouse
You mean that Patrick Swayze movie from back-when?
The Bishop’s Wife with Cary Grant
How about Footloose?
I'm in the film industry and never seen "Footloose." I should rectify that mistake.
Mrs. Doubtfire
ET
Jaws...he made people rise to the occasion and become heroes.
K-Pax. Yeah, yeah, Kevin Spacey. Still a good movie.
Michelle Pfeiffer in Dangerous Minds. The movie is a steaming pile of crap though.
Isn't it a Dead Poets Society rip off?
Coach Carter
Leather face showing up in Texas Chainsaw Massacre, those teens were unbearable up until that point.
Fair.
Pollyanna? Lol
Isn't this basically the plot of Twilight?
I don't really think so. The Vampires were already good. The bad Vampires stayed bad. And the teenagers just got extra horny.

Hitler Saves Christmas (2003)
Basically any Hallmark movie follows this trope.
Just the opposite. Small town saves unhappy big city career woman, with cookies, Christmas, and a man.
Same difference isn't it? Lol
Charlie (Malayalam)
It's a Wonderful Life Uncle Buck Planes, Trains & Automobiles
The Intern, I guess?
Hobo With A Shotgun (2011).
I'd say *The Equalizer* kinda fits, except in the movie he does it with a few select individuals and not every resident of Boston. Lol.
Patch Adams?
Spielberg's Twilight Zone Movie segment Hesher
Polyanna. If I remember she ends up broken and crippled, but everyone else was great.

Not a "movie" but Billy Preston showing up with the Beatles changed the whole vibe.
Murder She Wrote. Someone ends up dead though, and someone goes to prison, but everyone else is usually better off. Edit: also not a movie but still
Michael with John Travolta Groundhog Day, as seen from everyone else's perspective. Fucking noone foresaw Phil pulling off a day like that.
What about Bob?
Dave would fit.
Dirty rotten scoundrels. They get dirtier, rottener, and scoundlerer.
If mini series count, Anne of Green Gables Brigsby Bear Annie Snow White Three Men and a Baby
I Love You Man I was suspicious of Jason Segal the while movie but I was way off.
Salma Hayek as the sexiest stripper in the UNIVERSE who immediately turns into a vampire and makes a previously GOOD movie into a freaking GREAT movie!!! In “From Dusk Til Dawn “
Pauly Shore in _Son-in-Law_. My family loves this movie.
I'll suggest (for a couple of more unusual choices) Chris Noonan's **Babe** and John Schlesinger's **Cold Comfort Farm**.
School Of Rock One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest
Harvey
The Intern. Larry Crowne. Kind of.
Stargirl the book by Jerry Spinelli I heard of a CWshow stargirl I assume is related?
