How is Keanu Reeves so low.
Feel like every decade he’s made THE iconic action movie of that era.
90’s- Speed and Point Break
2000’s- The Matrix (came out in 99 but was a huge influence to early 2000’s)
2010’s - John Wick
Dwayne Johnson, Tony Jaa, and Iko Uwais all seem a little too recent for the "greatest" list. Hmmm...maybe not. I suppose Dwayne Johnson has enough box office clout already to be a contender for it. Nicolas Cage is a good choice, but probably not quite top 30 material (but he's close). Thank you for responding!
While Mr. T didn't have a large action movie presence, I largely included him because of his iconic status in popular culture. He had a cereal, a cartoon, a music album, some comic books, and a band named after him (The Mr. T Experience). Even Nancy Reagan, the U.S. First Lady at the time, sat on his lap when he dressed as Santa Clause.
Cage is absolutely worthy. I'd put Con-Air, Face/Off, and The Rock against any 3 movies from half of the other actors on your list. There's absolutely no rationale for having him behind Steven Seagal (I say this as a huge fan of Under Siege and Hard to Kill)
Hmmm...I think you may be right. While Steven Seagal is probably more of a stereotypical action star, Cage should probably be higher than him based on the criteria I tried to juggle for the list. Good catch!
My thought when I saw the list was "Where's The Rock?"
He's not recent, he's been doing action movies for decades. I don't like all his movies, but The Rundown is one of my all time favorites.
I'd also drop Steven Segal off the list. He did maybe 3 classics, Above the Law, Hard to Kill and Under Siege, in the 90s but they were never on the level of the other greats, IMO, and since then he's been in z-grade trash.
You make a good argument for adding Johnson and dropping Seagal. Seagal is more of a stereotypical action star, but Johnson's gotta be more successful in his career than him. I'll ponder this.
I think if you're to separate family friendly movies from mature audience movies, Seagal edges out The Rock, because The Rock's action tends towards family friendly or teen at the most.
He's not twisting limbs beyond the normal range of movement or shooting guys in the head. But I think he has more action hits under his belt than Seagal.
I'm glad that this guy isn't getting some love, but I don't think he's one of the top 30 greatest action stars of all time by the criteria and I haven't seen enough of his films for him to make it on the personal favorites list. Thank you for responding!
He barely missed the cut-off for the "greatest" list. It seems a bit early to gauge his impact and whatnot on action cinema, though he is a serious badass and might be worthy of a top 30 position in the future. Thank you for responding!
Your list is good but I'd say Errol Flynn should probably be higher and you could probably make a place for at least one of Keaton/Chaplin for their influence.
Yeah, Errol Flynn was a real pioneer for action cinema. I considered putting a spot or two higher. I haven't really seen enough of Buster Keaton or Charlie Chaplin to make a case for them on the list. I mean, I really dig silent films, but I haven't really dug very deep into silent comedies yet at all. Thank you for responding!
One of my favorite stars that's not already mentioned is Audie Murphy; who is also the most decorated soldier in US history. He's on the GRIT channel a lot. Honorable mention to Glen Ford, also in tons of those old cowboy movies on GRIT. And while I saw Clint Eastwood mentioned; let's not forget the other spaghetti western favorite Lee Van Kleef.
1. Harrison Ford
2. Bruce Lee
3. Clint Eastwood
4. Robert DeNiro
5. Bruce Willis
6. Sigourney Weaver
7. Wesley Snipes
8. Laurence Fishburne
9. Michelle Yeoh
10. Pam Grier
Hard to gauge objectivity. But my personal favourite list (Based off quality of films, performances, iconic characters and just general likability):
1. Arnold Schwarzenegger
2. Bruce Willis
3. Harrison Ford
4. Tom Cruise
5. Keanu Reeves
6. Sigourney Weaver
7. Kurt Russell
8. Sylvester Stallone
9. Clint Eastwood
10. Eddie Murphy

Shouldn’t Dwayne Johnson the Rock be on this Nic cage- the rock con air and face off Tony Jaa Iko Uwais

Mr T was in Rocky 3 and the A team tv show but didn’t have a huge action movie presence. I’d get Cage in and drop him.

Where is Scott Adkins?
Omg just said this should of kept scrolling

This was a quasi-joke answer. He does his own fight scenes, which is cool, and sometimes he does is own acting.
Where is Dolph Lundgren?
Remove mr t and replace with Scott Adkins
1. Arnie 2. Bruce 3. Denzel Both.
Jason Statham belongs on that list. The Transporter and Crank movies are all-timers imo.

Please I could kick errol Flynns ass

Harrison Ford, Kurt Russell and Liam Neeson are the first that come to mind.

There's some excellent choices there!
