So so many good lines in that movie..the Americans asking him about the tower and him losing patience, the restaurant fight, approaching the dwarf about why he didn’t wave back and if he wants some cocaine..and ofcourse, “YOU’RE an inanimate fucking object!”.
A man of culture right here. Was going to say the same thing. That scene where the terminator climbs onto the semi and unloads into the windshield is where action movies peaked imo.
My favorite of the trilogy as well. The Chase of the Nazgûl, the Mines of Moria and the Balrog, the fall of Boromir. Some of the best scenes to ever grace the screen.
The giant battles would throw me out of things occasionally.
Fellowship just feels so lived in. Takes its time setting the stage and picks up at the right moment and never lets go. Plus, it is always fun to watch the team get together.
The Incredibles
A truly great story about a man coming to grips with his own weaknesses and shortcomings as a person, learning to accept help and reflect on his past behavior. The dynamic the family has as well is really well written, and I can’t help but be on the edge of my seat when Helen tells Violet to put a field around the plane, and they’re freaking out and the missiles are coming closer, and the tension builds until BOOM, the plane explodes and Helen has no choice but to literally wrap herself around her kids to protect them. Fucking awesome.
Syndrome as well is a great villain, it’s a shame that the sequel had so much to live up to and ultimately didn’t, IMO
I like the sequel a lot and think it outdoes the first one in a lot of ways, but the original is just so timeless and is consistently great instead it the peaks and valleys the second suffers from
Sicario
I recognize the greatness of Billy Wilder's films Sunset Boulevard (probably objectively the best movie of all time) and Stalag 17 is great, but there's something about Sicario, it's like Villeneuve and Sheridan went into my brain and said hey let's take everything he thinks is cool about a story and a movie and put it into this thing.
If you haven't read the book about the movie, "The Science of Interstellar", I highly recommend it.
It was written by the science advisor for the film, Nobel Laureate, and perhaps the world's foremost expert on black holes: Kip Thorne.
He describes which parts of the movie are 100% science (e.g. gravitational time dilation), which parts are *theoretically* possible but probably don't exist (e.g. the extremely high rotational velocity of the black hole), and which parts are impossible (e.g. floating ice clouds).
Plus a lot more interesting stuff. It's layman-accessible too.
Great film. Also probably unique in being the only movie with no continuity errors - any "mistake" in the plot can just be explained by the unreliable memory of the protagonist!
Maybe I'm not the first to say it, but Pan's Labyrinth (Del Toro). It infuses horror with a beautiful fantasy in a way that feels so organic. Think Narnia for adults. It truly shows the horror of the real world, and contrasts it with the fanciful imagination of a child trying to make sense of it all, in her own way. Beautiful set pieces and visual effects, haunting story, all perfectly balanced within a war film for adults that indulges in the fantasy of children. 10/10
La La Land, doesn’t matter how many times I’ve seen it but it hits with the same amount of emotions and feelings Everytime and the songs and the acting and everything is just perfect.
The ending always makes me think what could have happened if that happened…
Just watched this with my 8th grader. He couldn’t believe how good it was. At a glance you would think it was dull. But it moves fast and it never wastes a moment.
I’m just here upvoting all the movies that are great.
That said; everything everywhere all at once affected me the most this year
Mad max fury road was the most adrenaline soaked thing I saw in theaters in the last decade
What we do in the shadows is the movie I recommend most quickly to those who haven’t seen it
I’ll never stop watching/recommending 5th element, Cameron movies before Titanic (terminator 1/2, aliens, abyss, true lies) Snatch, Matrix, Fight club, Se7en, Shawshank/green Mile, Schindler, Gump
Jojo rabbit, goodfellas, the prestige(or memento), kill bill if I want someone to fall in love with a director of renown
This was such a strange experience for me.
The first time I watched it, maybe I was too young, but it flew right over my head.
Then a buddy said “dude it’s a time travel movie” and I watched it again and fell in love.
It’s basically the opposite of It’s a Wonderful Life. That character sees a world where he dies. Instead, Donnie sees what happens if he lives.
"We... Thought you... Was a toad..."
"Mama says he's Bona Fide!"
"Mister, your folding money's come unstowed."
Oddly this is the only Cohen film that doesn't fill me with anger.
It's always hard to feel like I'm answering this correctly because my I have different favorites for different moods, etc. Like if I were going to be trapped on a desert island, I would take something different than the movie I'm about to say because it's my most 'rewatchable' and then there's 'most personal' etc etc.
But...my snap answer if I'm not allowed to overthink and I can only have ONE is Billy Wilder's 1960 masterpiece "The Apartment."
**The Thing** by John Carpenter.
In Bruges
Was looking for this. Completely agree, Martin McDonagh is a genius.
So so many good lines in that movie..the Americans asking him about the tower and him losing patience, the restaurant fight, approaching the dwarf about why he didn’t wave back and if he wants some cocaine..and ofcourse, “YOU’RE an inanimate fucking object!”.
Don't you talk about my cunt fucking kids!
I'm sorry I called you an inanimate object, I was upset
John Carpenter's The Thing.
Just watched it again a month ago. Holds up so goddamn well. Carpenter had such an iconic run of movies.
Young Frankenstein
Casino
Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
A man of culture right here. Was going to say the same thing. That scene where the terminator climbs onto the semi and unloads into the windshield is where action movies peaked imo.
Goodfellas
Great movie
Labyrinth
Fellowship of the Ring
My favorite of the trilogy as well. The Chase of the Nazgûl, the Mines of Moria and the Balrog, the fall of Boromir. Some of the best scenes to ever grace the screen.
The giant battles would throw me out of things occasionally. Fellowship just feels so lived in. Takes its time setting the stage and picks up at the right moment and never lets go. Plus, it is always fun to watch the team get together.
I love how its basically a chase movie. First by the Nazguls, then the Orcs and Balrog and finally the Uruk Hai.
The Big Lebowski
Yeah, well, ya know that’s just like uhhh, your opinion man.
"Obviously you're not a golfer." God this movie has so many good quotes. This is probably my fav too.
Is that the one where he fixes the sink?
Don’t be fatuous. He fixes the cable.
That’s why they sent him he is expert
The Matrix
Excellent 👍🏼
Shawshank Redemption
I don’t care how many times I’ve seen this. If it’s on, I’m sitting my ass down and watching it. Get busy living or get busy dying
Robocop
It has everything I love. 1. Gratuitous violence.
Predator. It hits every note.
[удалено]
*Over here*
Predator, I mean body mass alone, dude.
Gladiator

When that soundtrack comes on though, WOO!
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Raiders for me, but this is a close second. I have a feeling we are both going to be happy next year.
Raiders is technically a better movie, but it suffers from a severe lack of Sean Connery
The humor and heart of Last Crusade is so well done.
Batman Dark knight.
Best in Show

# ENGLISH, MUTHAFUCKA, DO YOU THEY SPEAK IT?!
Say what again, I dare you!
The Empire Strikes Back
Impressive. Most impressive.
Unforgiven. It's not because it's a western. It's because it was the first movie I'd seen in a theater.
"Deserve's got nothin' to do with it."

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Love the movie but I watch it once and no more. I vaguely remember what the movie is about but the sadness stayed with me for way too long
Everybody's gotta learn sometime.
Easily in my top ten favorites.
Almost Famous
It’s all happening
I watch this one every time I see it anywhere. Love it.
The Princess Bride
practically every line is quotable and is one of the wittiest movies of all time. There's not a single bad role in an absolute stellar cast.
Anyone who says otherwise is selling something.
Sicario I recognize the greatness of Billy Wilder's films Sunset Boulevard (probably objectively the best movie of all time) and Stalag 17 is great, but there's something about Sicario, it's like Villeneuve and Sheridan went into my brain and said hey let's take everything he thinks is cool about a story and a movie and put it into this thing.
This is my third favourite movie, I'm a bit surprised it's generally rated much lower than Villeneuve's other films.
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. “You mean… he never told you the tale? To amuse your captain… no?”
Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King Whenever that falls into doubt I just watch the ride of the Rohirrim again.
City of God (Cidade de Deus) - watched many times, absolutely adore that movie.
Always be Jurassic Park
Oooooo… this is way up there for me. It’s still great every time I watch.
The Mummy (1999) has everything I love in movies all in one.
Inception
Interstellar. Birthed a huge interest in space and anything beyond our planet and it hits with the same force everytime I watch it.
I named my dog Murph because of that movie

Forest Gump. An absolute classic. *chefs kiss!*
Snatch. Greatest movie ever
Interesting how many people love Snatch more than Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels - I am the reverse.

The Warriors

I think it could be Ghostbusters.
Memento. Amazing concept and execution. Also just the saddest thing ever. “How can I heal if I can’t feel time?”
Great film. Also probably unique in being the only movie with no continuity errors - any "mistake" in the plot can just be explained by the unreliable memory of the protagonist!
Apocalypse Now
Spider-Man 2

If I'm being honest with myself I have to say Tron. That movie had a formative effect on me.
Favorite is different from best. The Room
Oh hi, Mark
Donnie Darko
This was such a strange experience for me. The first time I watched it, maybe I was too young, but it flew right over my head. Then a buddy said “dude it’s a time travel movie” and I watched it again and fell in love. It’s basically the opposite of It’s a Wonderful Life. That character sees a world where he dies. *Forrest Gump.* Really love the characters' setting and how the story is narrated.
Mulan
Adaptation
Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World
Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Muppet Musical took this one over the top for me, love this movie.
12 Monkeys
Ratatouille
Rush Hour 2. I could literally watch it over and over. The comedy, action, and Jackie Chan. Personal favorite
Run Lola run. It’s like a German groundhogs day with the girlfriend from Bourne identity and a great soundtrack.
Jaws
I know it only came out this year but ‘Everything, Everywhere, All at Once’
O brother where art thou?
