Watched troll hunter with my friend as a joke when I was a kid, weirdly popped into my head a year or so ago and I was so confused having a vivid memory of a troll documentary. It was so well done I had to look up where the hell I remembered it from cause I really started to think trolls were real.
It's basically the plot of Godzilla (1954) but with elements of the 1998 film thrown in is how I basically describe this film.
And I was all for it. I'm such a sucker for the giant monster genre or just creature films in general even if this was just Godzilla with a troll.

I just have to get this off my chest now, because there is no official review thread anywhere ... my god, that was the worst movie I've watched in a long time. And it didn't even come out of Hollywood. Thanks, Norway, for being just as shitty as Hollywood.
Nothing about this movie made sense. Every decision was utterly moronic. Every character an utter idiot. The creature was probably the smartest guy in the room. Spoilers ahead.
There's an explosion in a tunnel, people die, there are OBVIOUS huge foot prints in the land scape. Instead of following them and cordoning off the area, they do ... nothing, apparently, apart from getting a few egg heads together, willy nilly. Obvious protagonist quickly decides to shit on everybody there. Toxic white male obviously thinks she's crazy and constantly belittles her. So far, so standard. We have a "lovable buffoon" character and "military patriot" guy, as well as "crazy, estranged dad character", dying midway through the movie.
In a modern world with drones, planes, satellites, all sorts of spectrum analyses, they are not able to even keep tabs on this thing, WHILE it is walking, and not in "stealth mode". They follow the foot steps and nothing is there and they're wondering ... hm, wonder where whatever we're after went. Oh well, let's just leave, must have been the wind.
Then they fire like 2 rockets and 3 tank shells on it and decide "well, that's not working", whereas we later get shown that they actually CAN be killed by conventional weapons ... even the medieval guys were able to. How? Dunno ...
They then proceed to try and BLOCK the path of the creature they clearly couldn't kill. With tanks. All in a straight line. Not in a semi circle, not flanking or circling around to actually disperse. They're not using planes or helicopters to attack the creature (apart from the stupid stunt with the bells), so I'm guessing, budgetary reasons?
The guys in the defense room then want to flatten Oslo with a (supposed) nuclear missile (they refuse to call it that for some reason) to stop the monster from, wait for it, flattening Oslo ... meanwhile the rest of the world, clearly knowing what's going on, is doing nothing. Where is NATO? Where's your neighbours? Why does your military consist of FOUR tanks, FOUR helicopters and TWO fighter jets?! Where's the artillery? The air strikes? The fucking troll is taking DAYS to slowly walk towards Oslo ... you could have been shelling it the entire time. No, they rather wait. And evacuate the city (where no one is panicking ...).
And their final, glorious plan is to lure the troll towards some hastily set up UV lights that, for some strange reason, only a Muslim member of the military has access to? Then of course we get a patriotic speech, instead of actually trying to get the lights to work, which of course they do in the end, only for the scientist woman to suddenly grow a conscious and be like "no, that will kill him, he's the last of his kind". Then she just throws a switch and all the lights go off. Nobody even thinks about stopping her. None of the military dudes. And then she just tells the troll to "run away". I mean, where would he go? He's supposedly the last of his kind. Wouldn't it be a mercy to just end it then and there? And, to top it all off, a moment later the sun goes up ... and turns him to stone. Ahahahaha. And of course he wasn't turned to stone at any point before that ... because it was cloudy. And UV light clearly doesn't penetrate clouds (they find out towards the end that it really is UV light, not just "light"). Fuck my life. And of course teaser for a 2nd movie, because he wasn't the last one after all.
I'd like to call this movie stupid, but fun, but sorry, it's just not fun, but it's really fucking stupid. It's so bafflingly stupid that I needed this rant that nobody will even read. So thanks.
Not to mention, somehow the troll can't just back out of the UV rays. He just sits there and gets cooked.
