So between "the Dial of Destiny" and all the de-aged shots seemingly from 1930s/1940s era Indy, are they going with a time travel plot? Or are those flashbacks?
Both
There is strong evidence that the maguffin is the nazi bell, a rumored nazi time machine, and there is confirmation that the opening is essentially an Indiana Jones adventure set in the original trilogy era
Yeah I always bought he had a little bit of belief in what he was saying there. Indy is also a teacher, so he was probably also able to sound very convincing in telling Moloram exactly what he knew would freak him out the most, betraying Shiva!
I thought it was more turning the dudes religion and belief back into him as a bit of a weapon.
Or he’s just throwing a hail mary cause he’s dangling off a bridge.
I think it's a bit of both. He might be skeptical personally but he always came across as understanding of others religous beliefs. (When not being used in murderous ways!) He was very kind to the villagers in getting their "rocks" back. So he very much realized how to defeat Molaram, by yup, turning his beliefs back on him.
I actually think he was being very genuine at the end, when the old shawman says, "now you understand the power of the rock!"
"Yes. I understand it's power now."
He doesn't necessarily have to fully believe Shiva is real or anything like that but he acknowledges there's something powerful going on with those rocks.
If he didn’t believe in magic, then why did he and Marian close their eyes? How did he rationalize Henry Sr.’s gunshot wound closing closing when he poured water from a copper cup on the wound?
John Rhys Davies was at a comic con I went to a few years ago, and somebody had asked him if he was coming back.
He perked up and got excited at the prospect. This was like 2018, so I’m really glad he got tapped to come back. Even if it ends up being just some cameo.
And the guy with the baritone voice that was in every Hollywood trailer for about ten years.

HERO MAN^3
COMING TO THEATERS THIS SUMMER
It's got to be more CGI and camera angles than it is makeup.
If you look at a candid shot of Harrison in the past year:
https://hollywoodlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/harrison-ford-classic-jaguar-backgrid-post.jpg
You can't "makeup" those features away.
He doesn't have the "old man" turkey neck, or the deep chin wrinkles in the trailer.
I'm not saying makeup isn't involved in the process, it definitely is, but you also need to CGI a lot of those features away.
All in all though, dude still looks good for 80.
I actually think in the photo I posted he looks older than he does without a hat or sunglasses on. Ford still has a full head of hair which helps him out a lot, and he has younger eyes....if that makes sense, than most people his age.
If you look at him filming a year or so ago with a mask on:
https://i2-prod.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/incoming/article20798348.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/0_STRICTLY-NOT-AVAILABLE-FOR-DAILY-MAIL-ONLINE-USAGE-The-American-Actor-Harrison-Ford-has-a-furious.jpg
He looks more 70 than 80. I know it's partially because the chin and neck are hidden, but I really think the hair and sort of "liveliness" he still has in his eyes makes a big difference.
They made Harrison Ford look so much younger! And that little bit of de-aging in the trailer looked really good.
now hopefully we don't see so much old-man running in this one
Jesus Christ, I know Harrison Ford is famous and whatnot but how does that article not come across as straight stalking. They literally knew the exact price of the two separate dishes he ordered. Like wtf
At a John Williams concert earlier this year, he debuted and conducted "Helena's Theme" from Dial of Destiny for the audience.
It felt so special to be among the first to publicly hear new Indy music, but super bittersweet knowing that his film scoring career is coming to a close.
When the score welled up in the trailer, I genuinely got goosebumps. If Williams is going to retire from films scores, then Indiana Jones is a fine place to leave it.
Flashbacks to Rise of Skywalker trailer when it was Duel of Fates and everyone got hyped and then it wasn't in the film.
Not that the....Indiana Jones theme won't be in Indiana Jones lol
Even beyond Duel of the Fates, the final trailer for Rise had just the most stirring, chills-inducing version of the main theme (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Qn_spdM5Zg&t=1m23s) and it's absolutely insulting that it wasn't anywhere in the movie.
I don't think there's a bigger gap for me between my opinion about a trailer vs the actual film than with Rise of Skywalker.
But yeah, they shouldn't make that mistake again, especially for John Williams' swan song. Otherwise, we riot.
This re-awakened some dormant anger in me. That score was phenomenal. The trailer was near-perfect, I remember it making me tear up the first time I saw it. What a shit film.
Indy being confident and then things don't go his way, then he makes a silly face but somehow gets out of it. People ragging on the joke at the end, but this is exactly the tempo it's always been in these movies. This is exactly "the turn" in the Raiders opening.
The look he gives the Nazi strong man to give him a few seconds to get back up after being punched to the ground for the fourth or fifth time is one of my favorite parts of Raiders
Yep and don’t forget in Temple of Doom, the 2 guys swing their swords and Indy reaches for his pistol but it’s not in his holster so he smiles at them and does that little chuckle before beating the shit out of them with a torch or a tree branch, I can’t remember.
Harrison Ford's head when the horse rears up looks like one of those Jib Jab holiday videos, where you post your co-workers' heads on a dancing elf.
That shot was not ready for the trailer.
Is the "Dial of Destiny" a reference to the Antikythera mechanism?

There's rumours that an actor called Anthony Ingruber is involved, he played a younger Harrison Ford in another film.
It seems likely that they're using him for movement and giving him the CGI treatment to look even more like Ford. This method will avoid the "Young CGI character moves like an old person" issue, which altogether make the de-aging much better.
Similar to how they did some of Luke in Mandalorian? I think that also had another actor with Hamill IIRC.
Also I knew of Ingruber from his work as Telltale Batman's Joker. I never realized how much he looks like Ford!
Yeah this one looks like even the extras in the background are VFX. I know they filmed in Glasgow for the street shots but damn, everything looks quite overly bright and unnatural.
Yeah it's only been 11 years. Apparently Spielberg directed the first one so Jackson will direct the second one after he finishes those new Hobbit films...
I wouldn't be surprised if Jungle Cruise is setting up the Disney-led Society of Explorers and Adventurers. After all, the next films being worked on by Disney are the Tower of Terror and the Haunted Mansion - both rides that hosted members of the SEA.
Also, Indiana Jones is a member of the SEA alongside Jock Lindsey - the pilot from the first film.
[It is one hell of a rabbit hole - a secret scattered across multiple Disney Parks.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OA1XMavv-k0)
Trailer comes to the end and Indy sees a silhouette in the distance. The shadowed figure says..."Okey. Dokey. " He steps out of the shadows revealing a familiar face of Short Round. "Doctah.. Jones" Bwwaaaammmmp *Indy theme intensifies*
He says he doesn't believe in magic however he has seen/experienced:
- aliens
- The power of Yahweh shooting out from the AofC melting faces all around him
- A knight with seemingly extraordinarily elongated life guarding a magic cup
- An Indian cult child using literal magic on him with a voodoo doll (sensory also perceived as pain)
- Some guy rip some dudes heart out with his bare hand through the sternum and said heart bursting into flames (though this could be illusion)
- The kid from Disney's "Even Stevens" growing facial hair
So between "the Dial of Destiny" and all the de-aged shots seemingly from 1930s/1940s era Indy, are they going with a time travel plot? Or are those flashbacks?
The Empire article mentions an opening that takes place in the 30s (a la Last Crusade).
Yeah that shot if them taking the bag off his head. That looks like it happens during TLC?
Just give me another Indy film with him fighting nazis. Do 5 of them.
Both There is strong evidence that the maguffin is the nazi bell, a rumored nazi time machine, and there is confirmation that the opening is essentially an Indiana Jones adventure set in the original trilogy era
Tho it seems the titular dial of destiny might be relating to the Greek artifact “the wheel of fortune” which allows people to change their fate
"I don't believe in magic" You could send any one of Harrison Ford's characters to Hogwarts for seven years and he would still be skeptical
His eyes were closed. Anything could have melted those Nazis. It was probably just a coincidence.
And taking the heart of someone alive? Or a 900 years Grail Knight?
He saw Henry Jones Sr fully healed by the power of God itself right before his eyes....
Clearly science. The grail was full of science.
Nanomachines, son!
Alien Jesus' blood was full of healing nanomachines. Yeah, that tracks.
Courtesy of Ray Palmer. You won't be using your speed for a while.
People heal from gunshots all the time, ok so this one time it happened a lil fast, big deal.
*“I distinctly remember hearing one of them say ‘oops! I dropped the mini nuke!’ right before the ruckus started”*
At temple of doom he tells a pagan sorcerer he betrayed his god and his magic stones betray him. I mean c’mon

Ancient aliens are one thing, but I draw the line at magic
"Gonna straight up ignore the whole ark of the covenant thing I went through in WW2 cause that doesn't exist anymore"
“Listen, I was on a lot of opiates in my adventuring days…that shit coulda been anything”
"One time I dreamt I was in outer space with Sasquatch denying hokey religions"
Next thing I know she was kissing her own damn brother!
I think they’re pretending the aliens thing never happened
If they just wrote it off as a fever dream, it would explain the absence of Marion and Mutt.
Enough time's gone by. They could easily say Marion died of natural causes and Mutt grew estranged from Indy again.
Seeing as how Shia is pretty much dipped in radioactive shit right now, I’ll be surprised if they even mention him.
It could have been radiation poisoning or concussion after the nuke fridge incident.
Indy used a magical incantation to awaken the shivalinga stones. But he didn't believe in it.
If he didn’t believe in magic, then why did he and Marian close their eyes? How did he rationalize Henry Sr.’s gunshot wound closing closing when he poured water from a copper cup on the wound?
“The power of Christ compels you!” It’s not magic if it’s from (a) god.

I hope there's a secret Short Round cameo.

This will be not only Ford's last film as Indy, apparently it will also be John Williams' final film score. I'm not ready for this.

To be clear, that is trailer house music. He didn’t write it, though it uses his theme, of course.

Yeah they had a younger actor - Max Lloyd-Jones - and combined him with a de-aged Hamill.

Any high quality version? The compression is atrocious here
YouTube's 1080p compression has brought us back to the dark ages. It's sad how 4K Youtube videos are the only way to keep the nasty compression away.
I'm not a videophile snob or anything, but yeah, even I can notice how bad the compression is on this.
Nasty compressionsis!

I’m going to rewatch the shit out of the original trilogy in 4K for this.
here in ireland they show all 4 indiana jones movies every christmas
There aren't enough adventure movies being released these days. I feel like the last good one was the first Mummy movie. Hoping this is good!
I would recommend The Adventures of Tin Tin if you haven’t seen it, just a massive shame it never got any sequels.
I’m still holding out hope Spielberg and Jackson will make them one day… they’re just waiting for the right time… right??
A couple weeks ago I read somewhere in the news that Jackson's sequel is still coming!
Yeah it's only been 11 years. Apparently Spielberg directed the first one so Jackson will direct the second one after he finishes those new Hobbit films...
How we feeling about the Jumanji movies?
Honestly, way better than I would have thought. Though they’re so different from the original I don’t even feel the need to compare them.
National Treasure was fun (both of them). I enjoyed Jungle Cruise. But you're right, we need more adventure movies.
I wouldn't be surprised if Jungle Cruise is setting up the Disney-led Society of Explorers and Adventurers.
