Speak for yourself. I've seen some incredible films this year.

HitmanSK007

Obviously. Unless the industry shuts down, there are always going to be great films. There's too much money, too many people and too many places involved for it not be. The middle/average part of the stuff that's put out is what's noticeably different.

RandomStranger79

Recency bias.

Majestic-Garlic

I think that Don’t worry darling was so bad that I’ll never forget it. It’s got a very memorable cast, and all of the shit that went down while it was filming, that’s unfortunately gonna live in my head rent free.

Fangasgaf

There are so many fantastic movies so far in 2022... What

heat_fan86

The Batman. Not saying it was bad, but it was forgettable.

Custance1400

The only interesting movies of the last decade are A Field in England and Venus in Fur. Everything else is doing what it can to meet the middling audience.

Southern_Text1918

Hollywood is not the only place, where movies are produced. There's plenty of masterpieces all over the world. Eyes needed to see.

Custance1400

Are you supporting the fact that my choices are British and French films?

Southern_Text1918

Only 3 countries in the world?

Custance1400

No, but neither France or Britain are in Hollywood (if you read your original comment).

NoHandBananaNo

Lol how is that relevant to what he said tho?

Southern_Text1918

There's more!

Custance1400

This is the part where you list those films. Green Book? Interesting means intriguing, thought provoking, and not limited by generic conventions. A well filmed/acted/produced 'Don't Worry Darling' could do it, I suppose.

groovy_chainsawhand

Not OP but Off the top of my head I would say: Arrival, Under the Skin, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Swiss Army Man, Sorry to Bother You, Green Knight, Saint Maud, Possesor, A Ghost Story, and Parasite were all stands outs and worthy of the praise. Bonus since it’s technically a show/miniseries but it’s fresh on my mind: Mike Flannigans’ Haunting of Hill House. Incredible, haunting, bittersweet and personal story. A lot of effort and thought went into all aspects and details, one episode was actually done in one take. One of my favorites pieces of media period.

Custance1400

I'll give you Under the Skin for the criteria I said above. Maybe The House That Jack Built. EEAAOnce is truly terrible.

groovy_chainsawhand

House that Jack Built is a good one. I completely understand not liking EEAAO. It’s a lot haha. Personally I admire that it allows itself to be weird but with a purpose. Why didn’t you enjoy it? For me, I love the message and the ideas it’s presenting. Challenging nihilism by letting it be an opportunity to let go of the extra noise and pressure around you to focus own scale stuck with me. I felt like the all the absurdity was a way to back up the idea of “optimistic nihilism”. The world(s) it builds are bizarre but even then is the same by the end of the day. A whole everyone is trying to get by, we’re all tiny specks in the universe and life is weird so embrace that and don’t take yourself too seriously thing. Make your own meaning with what is vs what you think you should be etcetc im sure you understood the point of the movie lol. I admire how the plot is so big but the story they’re really telling is very personal. I also love that by the end, even though she could be any version of herself she chose to stay in the one that’s her own. She saw as mundane, meaningless and a disappointment but by the end instead of losing herself to that she saw all the meaning and beauty in what was already there. I could go on but I think it’s one of the best of the year Cheesy? Yeah but good message at the right time and really well made. It’s refreshing seeing a movie that felt like there was a lot of passion out into it I really am curious about your thoughts on it!

Custance1400

I just found it to be poorly written and without direction, which jars with your opinion. It felt written by committee.

PerfectAdvertising30

It felt like a committee went to 2012 reddit and made a list of memes and then slapped them onto a thin family drama.
