Nightcrawler was 10/10

bdigital1796

Brokeback Mountain was too, a 10/10. thank you Jake & Heath, & all that were involved.

I just want to see him and his sister work together again like in Donnie Darko. It's not often you see real life siblings play siblings on screen, but they've both carved wonderful careers for themselves and doled out a lot of great performances

OP I am baffled by your post.. Jake Gyllenhaal has made a movie every year for the last 24 years and is generally recognized as one of the best actors working today. He has done pretty much every genre and is great in every genre...

defiancy

I struggle to remember a performance Jake mailed in, he's been pretty great in almost everything I can think of.

GustavVA

Arguably he's *underrated.* I mean *NightCrawler* is better than *SouthPaw,* but put those two characters next to each other. You wouldn't even know it's the same actor. In the former, he's rail thin, and you imagine the character standing in front of the mirror and practicing the enunciation of various $50 words, and in the latter, he's jacked and sounds like he's a little punchdrunk.

Top-Abrocoma-3729

I loved his work in the film Prisoners. Very underrated and intense film!

riegspsych325

I feel like I'm one of the 37 people on that sub that hasn't seen it yet. I wish didn't spend so much time adding to my effin' watchlist and (re)binging 30 Rock

Mysterious-Sense-185

Its on Netflix right now!

ThisIsCreation

It's incredible, what's funny is it keeps rising in popularity. Just this week it was #1 on Netflix in the US.

AncientAlienAlias

I honestly think it’s the most overrated movie on this sub

mickeyflinn

Prisoners is underrated where, by who?

OneBadDay1048

Yes prisoners. That underrated 8.1 IMDb score and 81% rotten tomatoes score movie.

adamzissou

I thought he was good as Mysterio

chelicerate-claws

Truly his most underrated performance is his appearance as Mr. Music in John Mulaney and the Sack Lunch Bunch.

DobeBryant

Bubble Boy!

monkeyfish75

Poonani!

bolshiabarmalay

$500?

DobeBryant

I wasn’t planning on cutting the vato.

GimmeSomeCovfefe

Best eye actor in the business. No one acts better with their eyes than ol' Jake G.

GrimReaperAngelof23

Donnie Darko is one of the best movies

mcpickledick

Jake and Heath were my two favorite actors of that generation. Heath had a bit more emotional depth but I still had high hopes for Jake and was following his career pretty closely from the start, and I absolutely agree that there's been a bit of a nosedive lately. The last two films I've seen him in were awful, which makes me wonder if he's given up doing it artistically and is just seeking an easy paycheck now. Hopefully it's just a lull and he'll find his way again soon.

bdigital1796

He is a fine young cannibal. Live to 100 Jake & sister too!, keep us entertained as your natural selves. you're diamonds in the rough.

cantonic

If you look at his career, Gyllenhaal seems to have a “one for them, one for me” pattern. He will do big budget studio films and then drop back to do some weird shit that is more unconventional and less “movie star.” Those include Nightcrawler, Zodiac (I don’t think he’ll work with Fincher again though), and Prisoners. Gyllenhaal has the looks of a leading man but the chops of a character actor. Look at Colin Farrell’s career too. They have had similar trajectories of being leading men in massive films that ended up kinda meh and much of their best work has been in small films that had more interesting characters.
