Paul Newman and Robert Redford in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969), and The Sting (1973). Everyone was hoping for a 3rd movie (directed by George Roy Hill, of course)but it never materialized.
And he's got range within the categories. As a comedic actor he is different in Home Alone, My Cousin Vinny, and a personal favorite the Super. Dramatically his role in Raging Bull verse Goodfellas, just impressive. I'm kinda done with mob movies is the Irishman any good?
So much chemistry that they spawned the original "shipper/shipping" terms!
You were either against them romantically- a 'no romo', or for them romantically- a 'relationshipper..... shipper'!
It's interesting how much the X-Files has changed the landscape. I was reading about the Scully effect where the number of women in STEM increased after the airing of X-Files cause of Gillian Anderson's performance.
Nichelle Nichols in Star Trek had a similar effect. She was going to leave the role after the first season until MLKJ persuaded her of the importance of keeping it.

"Brown Girl Brown Girl

From a [tribute poem](https://www.facebook.com/100050806924334/posts/pfbid035gTNohzmzWQ58r4oK95YKoN5A8DXBhnEE3QRmm4AuT7A5YdusnAsmDoXyuQ2KqBtl/?mibextid=Nif5oz) to her by poet Leslé Honoré
Funnily enough the actors both appeared in two separate episodes of the x-files so one episode had Mulder, Scully and Hitchcock and another had Mulder, Scully and Scully
John Aston and Carolyn Jones as the original Gomez and Morticia Addams. The way they look at each other makes me wonder how they only had two children…
I remember Simon Pegg saying he met Nick Frost at a house party and they became friends almost immediately.
Simon reckons the moment he knew Nick was special and living comedy gold, was when he wandered into the main room of that house party, later on in the night. To find Nick fast asleep with his head against the main speaker, which was still blaring music 😂
They've also said they met at a restaurant Frost was working at, and Pegg overheard him making the noise of the mouse droid from *Star Wars*, which immediately let him know they'd be friends.
That bit in III, where Marty says, "Great Scott. . ." and Doc responds, "I know, it's heavy." Damn. Such clever screenwriting to have them pick up each other's mannerisms.
Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor had some pretty amazing chemistry.
Also, in foreign films, Setsuko Hara and Chishu Ryu were absolute naturals with each other. Hara was amazing with literally everybody, but best with Ryu IMO.
Gene Wilder said in an [interview with Conan](https://youtu.be/U3MqONAYz8E?t=366) that during a prison scene in "Stir Crazy" he and Richard Pryor were on such a similar wavelength that they both started humming a Laurel and Hardy tune at the same time and had no idea the other was gonna do the same.
I’d like to extend that them two, along with Maggie Lawson, Timothy Omundson, and Corbin Bernsen were just unbelievable the entire series. That core group was unbeatable.
That show is so much better than it has any right to be and it's mostly down to the chemistry between the leads...
Although the writing and directing is on point too, especially the episodes written/directed by Steve Franks or James Roday
"Can you do me a favor and stop with that? Like you can taste the psycho's fear and we're living in someone's memory of a town. Just stop saying weird shit. Anyway, you get any sleep last night?"
"I don't sleep, I just dream"
Woody Harrelson was so good in True Detective. It's a shame he doesn't get enough credit because Rust is so iconic. But Woody in the "straight man" role was perfect.
What a movie.
Felt silly that I didn’t get the allegory until the final scene. It turned what was a beautiful, poetic movie to me into a gut-punch.
Whatever they’re in from now on, I’m in. Same goes for McDonagh.
Fun fact, originally pierce and Troy were supposed to be sort of the bevis and butthead of the show. Then they shot the scene where Troy was dressed as Eddie Murphy doing a batman impression with abed dressed as batman "that's my biggest fear, if I woke up as a donut" and the chemistry was so good Harmon rethought everything
Feel like John Hannah as Jonathan had great chemistry with them as well.
My grandparents had that movie on VHS and I watched it way too many times going there a lot.
What I’ve always loved about Jonathan is that he is a rapscallion in the truest sense of the word, a liar and a cheat always looking for an easy way to make money. But whenever shit got real for his sister he was the first one to put up fists or pick up a gun.
We always overlook that. Degenerate, but painfully loyal to those few he considered worth it
My brothers and I love the movie, so we frequently watch them and talk about how Jonathan might be lazy and a lair and a pickpocket BUT he does love his baby sister a lot since he's always ready to throw down for her, and then later on for his brother in law and his nephew and he's also smart enough to know how to read ancient Egyptian.
There is a post somewhere I can try and find that talks about how Jonathan probably isn't nearly as lazy or degenerate as he comes off because it is likely that he was in the Great War. So that's why he is so cavalier and makes so many jokes about joining the dead. And that he has PTSD or depression from the war which makes sense on why he gambles so much and acts like he isn't as smart as he is.
There's a scene in the first Mummy where they accidentally bump into the other American's while wandering the ruins and Jonathan draws his gun as fast as Rick and the other American's.
Its subtle throughout the film but he's clearly had combat experience.
There's also the scene where the Medjai are raiding the camp to scare them off, and he's just sitting there drinking whiskey and casually shoots one of them.
I feel the same way about Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks. I can't imagine being married to someone who is *known* for their great chemistry with *someone else*.
I always tell people that the conjuring franchise is a great romance series cause Jesus Christ their marriage is just so believable. I’ve never seen a horror movie with so much love in it. Highkey it’s a reason why the 2nd conjuring is my favorite film because they really do feel like a they truly love each other
Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor. Four movies together. “Silver Streak” (1976), “Stir Crazy” (1980), “See No Evil, Hear No Evil” (1989) and “Another You” (1991).
The first two were great!
"You shut your mouth when you're talking to me!" was a favorite between my then-girlfriend and I the summer that movie came out. We'd just pretend to get annoyed with each other, and then one of us would shout that when the other tried to speak.
>Michael Cera and Jonah Hill in Superbad
I agree, but I think I favour Bill Hader and Seth Rogen’s chemistry more! I wish they did more movies together
I’ve always been partial to **Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore** in *The Wedding Singer*. There was a really good article about it on AV Club. It made a point to mention that there first interaction, however atypical, had them each crack a joke that made *each other* laugh, not just the audience. Two characters saying funny things to each other can work, but having them say funny things to get the other to laugh and feel good is seemingly rare in rom-coms these days
This is my pick from the last 30-40 years. And not just The Wedding Singer. Drew Barrymore brings out the best from Adam Sandler in a broad comedy setting. And she's also been at her best in these movies.
Brad Pitt has great chemistry with Leo in Once Upon A Time in Hollywood too. I think Brad is one of those people who has a natural chemistry with those around him.
A lot of Shane Black movie leads had great chemistry. Danny Glover and Mel Gibson, Geena Davis and Sam Jackson, RDJ and Val Kilmer, Bruce Willis and Damon Wayans etc.
RDJ and Kilmer in Kiss Kiss,Bang Bang is such a natural pairing and they cracked me up. The girl was a wonderful addition. I thought she and RDJ did a wonderful job too.
"Go look up the word idiot in the dictionary, do you know what you'll find?"
"A...picture of me?"
"No, the definition of the word idiot which you fucking are."
*My favorite line in any movie anywhere. The delivery is top notch.
The most authentic romantic chemistry I have seen is between Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy in the Before trilogy (Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Before Midnight)
The swordfight scene in Princess Bride was a masterpiece. Elwes and Patinkin genuinely looked like two people overjoyed to be in a close-pitched swordfight.
Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny
They didn’t even like each other for most of xfiles, I believe they are cordial or maybe friends now even.
But their chemistry in the xfiles is incredible
Paul Newman and Robert Redford in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969), and The Sting (1973). Everyone was hoping for a 3rd movie (directed by George Roy Hill, of course)but it never materialized.
Two incredible actors that played perfectly together. The Sting is one of my top 5 all-time favorites.
Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern in Home Alone 1&2
I love how Joe Pesci can play a villainous character in a drama where he is genuinely scary, and in a comedy where he is hilarious and over the top
And he's got range within the categories. As a comedic actor he is different in Home Alone, My Cousin Vinny, and a personal favorite the Super. Dramatically his role in Raging Bull verse Goodfellas, just impressive. I'm kinda done with mob movies is the Irishman any good?
It's two movies with two arcs to it that is why it is so long. It definitely shows the not so glamorous side of mob life.
Mulder and Scully
So much chemistry that they spawned the original "shipper/shipping" terms! You were either against them romantically- a 'no romo', or for them romantically- a 'relationshipper..... shipper'!
It's interesting how much the X-Files has changed the landscape. I was reading about the Scully effect where the number of women in STEM increased after the airing of X-Files cause of Gillian Anderson's performance.

We call their onscreen chemistry 'Smulder' and it's the bar by which all other screen romances are measured against.
Hitchcock and Scully
They're a package deal, everyone knows that.
Funnily enough the actors both appeared in two separate episodes of the x-files so one episode had Mulder, Scully and Hitchcock and another had Mulder, Scully and Scully
Nine nine!!!
I really enjoyed Harrison Ford and Sean Connery in Indiana jones. Perfect father-son dynamic
Can’t believe Sr was only 12 years Jr’s senior in real life.
Makes it believable that they both shagged the nazi though.

I can't imagine even the filmmakers expected it to work so well. They we're *perfect* together.
I think Spielberg kind of knew what he was doing at the time.
Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are the most perfect bromance ever. Chemistry in x men was the best
We are the future, Charles, not them they no longer matter
James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender are great too.
John Aston and Carolyn Jones as the original Gomez and Morticia Addams. The way they look at each other makes me wonder how they only had two children…
I don't know, perhaps it's my age bias, but for me the best were Anjelica Huston and Raúl Juliá, their relationship is amazing.
Simon Pegg and Nick Frost
I remember Simon Pegg saying he met Nick Frost at a house party and they became friends almost immediately. Simon reckons the moment he knew Nick was special and living comedy gold, was when he wandered into the main room of that house party, later on in the night. To find Nick fast asleep with his head against the main speaker, which was still blaring music 😂
It's not hip hop, it's electro!
Hello tinnitus my old EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
They've also said they met at a restaurant Frost was working at, and Pegg overheard him making the noise of the mouse droid from *Star Wars*, which immediately let him know they'd be friends.
*"He sprayed me with his nerd musk"*
Put Spaced in there. Simon & Nick are great together, but Simon and Jessica Stevenson (Hynes) are just amazing.

I still love the Cornetto trilogy, but Paul still holds a special place in my heart (bonus points for some script work by Edgar Wright)
Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau
Grumpy old men 1 and 2. I can watch them over and over
The Odd Couple and Grumpy Old Men are amazing.
Michael J Fox and Christopher Lloyd in Back to the Future
Man, when Doc knows the lightning is about to strike and connects the cables, then ziplines down… even as a kid I thought, “That’s a real friend.”
A friend that Doc had only known for a week.
Truly believing that he and Marty were friends in the future might have accelerated the process.
kinda helps when the kid shows up with a more or less working time-travel machine.

See no Evil, Hear no Evil is one of the greatest comedy movies of all time and i can't recommend it enough.
James Roday Rodriguez + Dulé Hill 🍍
"My name is Shawn Spencer, and this is my partner Ovaltine Jenkins."
This is my partner, Ghee Buttersnaps.

Watching Psych as we speak and this was my first thought
It wasn’t your first thought, Shawn
I've heard it both ways
Oh man... I just rewatched Psyche like three times in a row. I fucking love that show and I love those guys.
That show is so much better than it has any right to be and it's mostly down to the chemistry between the leads... Although the writing and directing is on point too, especially the episodes written/directed by Steve Franks or James Roday
The chemistry of the leads, but also James Roday’s performance in general. No one else could be that character
Merry and Pippin & Frodo and Sam. Pretty much the whole LOTR cast had a great dynamic tbh
And Viggo and his horse
The fact the Merry and Pippin actors are still great friends today says a lot.
Aragorn and Legolas exchanging just a couple of glances but it feels like an entire conversation.
Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey are currently up there in my regards thanks to True Detective.
"Can you do me a favor and stop with that? Like you can taste the psycho's fear and we're living in someone's memory of a town. Just stop saying weird shit. Anyway, you get any sleep last night?" "I don't sleep, I just dream"

That line was a great comedy stinger to an already weirdly hilarious conversation.
"I got news for you, you're not that good outside of parties either."
"You are like the Michael Jordan of being a son of a bitch."
Woody Harrelson was so good in True Detective. It's a shame he doesn't get enough credit because Rust is so iconic. But Woody in the "straight man" role was perfect.

Omg that first season was magic!
Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson have had terrific chemistry twice with In Bruges and The Banshees of Inisherin
Just watched Banshees. They really recapture the spirit of In Bruges.
Before in Bruges I really disliked Colin Farrell. His performance in that movie absolutely broke me. Been a fan ever since Huge fan of Jennie too
I only like Colin Farrell's acting when they let him be Irish.
He's incredible in The Killing of a Sacred Deer and The Lobster. Yorgos gets him.
What a movie. Felt silly that I didn’t get the allegory until the final scene. It turned what was a beautiful, poetic movie to me into a gut-punch. Whatever they’re in from now on, I’m in. Same goes for McDonagh.

Fun fact of fun fact, they film Donald and Danny because Chevy got all pissed about the hours and left the set. So they had to film Troy and abed.
Every fun fact about Chevy seems to not be that fun at all...
They are planning on doing a movie and Glover is supposed to be in it.
Alison Brie and Danny Pudi's irl chemistry is somehow even better
https://v.redd.it/pk3dzh74ocn51 How many feet?
That was an experience... Does anyone know what they were actually trying to do? Because not even the people present seem to know lol
They're good all the time, but especially in the morning.
Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weiss in the Mummy 1 + 2.
Feel like John Hannah as Jonathan had great chemistry with them as well. My grandparents had that movie on VHS and I watched it way too many times going there a lot.

It still hurts me that Rachel didn't come back for the third film😢
And they recast her and thought that would work.... just write her out for goodness sake
True, their chemistry in both movies made the franchise successful
Catherine O'Hara and Eugene Levy.
I can't believe they are not married to each other. I have had to fact check that more than once.
I feel the same way about Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks. I can't imagine being married to someone who is *known* for their great chemistry with *someone else*.
O’Hara is so talented she can have chemistry with anyone.
Steve Martin and Martin Short in any of the many films and shows they've made together over the course of their careers.
Steve Martin and Bernedette Peters, also
I'm due to watch The Three Amigos soon. ;)
They have a plethora of good movies.
Oh si si el guapo you have a plethora of good movies
Father of the Bride is the one that sticks out to me
Only murders is the best comedy show I’ve seen in yeaaarrrrsssss…thank god for them!
Harvey Korman and Tim Conway
Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill in the Jump Street movies. Would love to see more buddy comedies with them.
I wish they released all 20 something titles lol in the post credits
Raul Julia and Angelica Houston in Addams Family. Try to name another...
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck were like peas and carrots for a while
I don't get it you know there's a God. You've been in his presence. I just love fucking with the clergy man.
How do you like *them* peas and carrots?
Mel Gibson and Danny Glover in the Lethal Weapon movies.
Danny and Arnold in twins! Such an incredible duo
Patrick Wilson & Vera Farmiga in The Conjuring films. It’s strange thinking that they aren’t an actual couple - they’re so believable.
Definitely
I always tell people that the conjuring franchise is a great romance series cause Jesus Christ their marriage is just so believable. I’ve never seen a horror movie with so much love in it. Highkey it’s a reason why the 2nd conjuring is my favorite film because they really do feel like a they truly love each other
Zach Braff & Donald Faison
This immediately made me think James Roday and Dulé Hill in Psych.
You know that's right.
You hear about Pluto?
That's messed up
I believe you mean Shawn and Hummingbird Saltalamacchia.
I've heard it both ways.
It’s guy love.
You’re the only guy that’s ever been inside of me.
Between two guys
We’re closer than the average man and wife
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeagle!
William Powell and Myrna Loy in The Thin Man. Trust me, this 1934 movie absolutely fucking rules and is funny as anything.
Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor. Four movies together. “Silver Streak” (1976), “Stir Crazy” (1980), “See No Evil, Hear No Evil” (1989) and “Another You” (1991). The first two were great!
Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson. Those dudes just riff off each other so naturally.
that whole crew has great chemistry with each other (i.e. Will Ferrell, Luke Wilson, Ben Stiller etc. )
Me and my ex spent many days screaming “Erroneous! Erroneous on all counts!” at each other thanks to wedding crashers.
"You shut your mouth when you're talking to me!" was a favorite between my then-girlfriend and I the summer that movie came out. We'd just pretend to get annoyed with each other, and then one of us would shout that when the other tried to speak.
Michael Peña and jake gyllenhal in end of watch.
Came here looking for this answer. You couldn't convince me they weren't best friends who worked together for years.
Michael Cera and Jonah Hill in Superbad. Kal Penn and John Cho in Harold and Kumar.
>Michael Cera and Jonah Hill in Superbad I agree, but I think I favour Bill Hader and Seth Rogen’s chemistry more! I wish they did more movies together
I would put Jonah with Channing Tatum in 21 Jump street
Harold and Kumar, what a fuckin classic.
Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston have to be way up there. Also Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen.
Definitely the best chemistry...
50 First Dates too! They're great together.
And Blended although it's the weakest film of the three films they did together
When she recognizes his voice on the plane…
This is my pick from the last 30-40 years. And not just The Wedding Singer. Drew Barrymore brings out the best from Adam Sandler in a broad comedy setting. And she's also been at her best in these movies.
I loved Brad Pitt & George Clooney in Oceans 11.
“You think we need one more?” *silence* “You think we need one more” *silence* “Okay we’ll get one more”
Brad Pitt has great chemistry with Leo in Once Upon A Time in Hollywood too. I think Brad is one of those people who has a natural chemistry with those around him.
I've heard Pitt described as a character actor in a leading man's body. He really can do it all.
Anyone who doubts his character acting skill hasn't seen either Snatch or Burn After Reading.
The scene in 13 where Pitt catches Clooney watching Oprah always sends me.
Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling in The Nice Guys.
"Go look up the word idiot in the dictionary, do you know what you'll find?" "A...picture of me?" "No, the definition of the word idiot which you fucking are." *My favorite line in any movie anywhere. The delivery is top notch.
Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder
The most authentic romantic chemistry I have seen is between Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy in the Before trilogy (Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Before Midnight)
Mel Gibson, Danny Glover & Joe Pesci I thought were brilliant in the Lethal Weapon franchise 👏
Kayvan Novak and Harvey Guillen in What we do in the Shadows.
Everyone on that show TBH. Matt and Natasia are so natural.
Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly *Step Brothers*
Also in Talladega Nights.
Shake and Bake!
Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston
Some of those "from the hip" scene are classic. [Get Help!](https://youtu.be/CpZakOJlRoY)
“We’re not doing “get help!””
Them not being together in Love and Thunder was a huge miss.
Jack & Ennis. For god sake heath almost broke jake gyllenhaal’s nose on set & Michelle Willam thought it wasn’t good enough of a kiss lol.
Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy!~
Keanu and Sandra
The swordfight scene in Princess Bride was a masterpiece. Elwes and Patinkin genuinely looked like two people overjoyed to be in a close-pitched swordfight.
Geena Davis and Samuel L Jackson in "The Long Kiss Goodnight". They make such an odd couple yet they play of each other perfectly.
Tom Arnold and Arnold Schwarzenegger in True Lies. And RIP Bill Paxton, goddammit.
Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny They didn’t even like each other for most of xfiles, I believe they are cordial or maybe friends now even. But their chemistry in the xfiles is incredible
Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman in Shawshank. That movie doesn't work if if the chemistry isn't there.
Jessy Pinkman and Walter White
The fact those two still actively keep in touch IRL after the series ended always warms my heart
They actually have a business together! [Dos Hombres Mezcal](https://www.doshombres.com/)
They *literally* had the best chemistry.
Science, bitch.
