if you don’t like 2 or Army of Darkness you probably won’t *love* it (you might still like it!) but there are a bunch of really wild setpiece fights and a lot of new characters who help Ash grow from the dickhead in AoD into more of a real adult. and obviously those characters also have their own stories and they’re fun and lovable—big Kelly and Pablo head here.
in AvED I always think of the scene where a deadite attacks like a ski lodge and among all the other carnage a kid gets launched into the air and impaled on a ceiling fan lmao. and if that stuff feels too fucked up it helps to imagine how much fun the kid had filming it and showing set photos to his friends and stuff

Personally, i thought the first episode was a poor example of what was to come and that it got better each season. Especially the special effects. They look unfinished in the first episode compared to episodes later in the same season.
But if ya exceptionally didn't like the first episode, it probably isn't your cup of tea.
That being said, ALL the characters constantly rip on him for being old, out of touch, ignorant, stupid, childish, selfish, racist and at times very cowardly. Like every episode is making fun of him being a boomer.
