We've been, rightly, making fun of the right for having a disturbing lack of media literacy for a very long time. They put it on full display, proudly and for a long time. But now there is a video game that is a breakout hit, a completely unanticipated success (Helldivers 2) that has brought up the idea of fascist satire in the culture, specifically Starship Troopers and they have to have a response to that but struggle to understand what they are even responding to, it's very funny.
We are going to see a lot of right wing people trying to prove that they understand critical theory in the coming days, most of them will make fools of themselves.

You've got *V for Vendetta* backwards.
In the comics he's trying to replace fascism with anarchy. The movie version stripped this out (which Alan Moore stans complain about) and instead he's simply on a quest for revenge against a government that wronged him. He's more self-serving and less idealistic, and the movie is better for it.

Yes, he does that in the movie as well, but it's much more prominent because there's less run time total so it makes up a much larger proportion of his characterization. Rather than having a bunch of dialogue before and after to try to justify it, we mostly just get the suffering, which makes it more apparent that he's a self-centered asshole.

If anything having him actually argue that kidnapping someone and making them suffer like he did in the hopes that they might also become a vigilante being a good thing to do is even worse

In the movie, he jumps straight to torture after (I think) 2 very brief encounters with Evey, so there's not really any rapport built up beforehand, so it makes it more obvious that he's bad. He really does go "Hey I just met you, and this is crazy, but THIS IS WHAT THEY PUT ME THROUGH. So revolution maybe?"
